or if any of the technology fails and someone fails to notice in time. Look at what happened in Tenerife - they didn't have the technology we have in Heathrow today and overlapping radio calls cost the lives 583 people. The chaos that can be caused by not having the working technology to be assured of where every plane is and what it's doing is massive.
I have so much respect for ATC staff that are able to stay calm and alert with all that responsibility weighing on them and keep people safe.

Snow falls. We can't stop it. Sometimes it turns into a blizzard, without warning. That happened when I went to check-in at Heathrow.
I spent 30 hours there before finally flying out. Many people went crazy. The shouting was constant. I didn't. As the hours passed, I enjoyed a lovely meal and sought out a place to sleep. The disabled section saved me. There were many unoccupied wheelchairs and blankets. I slept really well and had a lovely breakfast. I bought a book and read it in the waiting area. I got on a flight that night and arrived at my destination in good spirits.
I've noticed that kindness and respect will get you anywhere.

They had to come take us out of a line that was so long that we were sure we'd miss our flight. We stood in that line for nearly 2 hours before the airline agent came looking for us. Sometimes it's not the passengers fault.

I like watching Ian looking after the runways. In the series where he was being trained , Ian looked more in charge than his boss who lacked personality in the show during their ride in the pick up truck. Think his boss knew that Ian looked more authoritative with his moustache and interesting character and his boss was probably a little jealous at this.
