      It's not just confined to drink and drugs, I regularly see people drinking,eating,applying make up,reading,shaving,texting,phoning,watching tv etc. for which there are absolutely no mitigating circumstances. People all doing anything but concentrating on the road,it''s a callously selfish attitude and one that deserves harsher punishments.

      I'm so very sorry for your and your family's loss it must be so very dreadful your little girl taken from you all by someone so irrisponsable. I knew a young lady in southern Ireland she was my brothers best friends wife. My mum was her little boys babysitter. I also knew her from visiting my mum. Her husband was a garda that's Irish police he was one of the presidents officers. She was parked at red lights a truck crashed into her knocked her into to lines of traffic. She died 5 minutes after arriving at hospital her 5 year old son died 4 times but was brought back his right leg has, slight damage he will always limp while walking he has partial sight in his right eye and has some brain damage. The driver of the truck was texting his wife in Poland whan he hit her. He got off with virtually nothing his wife was telling him how is his daughter was she was in hospital after having her appendix removed 3 days before. He got sympathy. This mother lost her life her 5 year old sonm nearly lost his life and he lost his mum and has life changing injurys. Her husband lost his wife nearly lost his son and has to care for his son for the rest of his son's life. Because of a text. I think texting drinking and drug driving should have years of jail timg at least 40 years and never be allowed to drive again.

    My dad was in the fire service. Many years ago he was at a fatality very similar to this one. Three young men in their early twenties were killed when the car they were in failed to take a bend, barrel rolled and hit an oak tree roof first. Of all the incidents he attended, that one stayed with him his whole life.

    My son’s father, my ex, was in the TOG in Australia, so they do mainly highway patrol, accidents, chases, etc., and are highly trained drivers. We both worked for the police, but separated when our son was 2. One night, when my boy was 3, his father turned up at the house, quite distressed. He had been to a double fatal and a young boy, the same age as ours, had been terribly injured and had died immediately. My ex just wanted to hug his son, who was asleep in bed, as what he had seen was truly so awful that I am not writing it here. He sat with him then went home. It’s no wonder that so many first responders suffer from PTSD, they see things that never leave them. The sad thing is that he has not bothered with his only child for 8yrs now, and even before that was not a great father to his son. You would think that what he had seen would make those he loved more precious, it certainly did to me. I would die for my son, his father would not.

      I know quite a few law enforcement officers here in the states and a lot of them have seen some stuff that made them do exactly what your ex did. Not to get too graphic, it's pretty disturbing, no matter how I write it out, but one officer had to deal with a drunk driver who plowed into a group of primary school aged kids crossing the street. If it had happened a year later there are good chances that his son would've been hit heading to school because of the proximity of his house to the scene.

    • @coover65
      @coover65 День тому +2

      I was with AFP for 11 years before being accepted by an ambulance service. I was stationed in a small country town that was a 14 hour drive from where my kids lived with the ex. One afternoon we got called to a single vehicle rollover. Five children and one adult, all with critical injuries bar one. An 8 year old boy (same age as my youngest) was ejected and died on scene. What made this case worse, was that there was just one ambo and one copper on shift in town. I had to get the local GP and head hospital nurse to come by taxi to assist. That 8 year old looked just like my son. I couldn't hug him until a week later when I was on days off and drove down to him. The young cop had only been in for a couple of years and I think looked to me for guidance sometimes. The whole incident rocked the whole town.

The drunk driver and passenger did a runner but were caught by police. As the firefighters doused the flame they saw a charred body trapped in back seat (it was a 2 door coupe). The driver hadn't told police about anyone else with them in the car. Its about time this country saw sense and brought in zero tolerance.

    North Yorkshire Traffic police are amazing, I had a seizure while driving back to my boat mooring where I live, it happened as I turned to go down the towpath, I shot across the canal, hit a tree on the other side and started to sink.
    I have no memory but another driver saw it all happen, they stopped to call 999 and up the road 1000 yards away was a police vehicle (I would have passed it), they saw the stopped car and drove down to see why they had stopped on a single lane bridge over the canal, within seconds an officer called Ben dived in, swam across the canal, got me out the now nearly fully under land rover and saved my life, oh and it was mid February and 9pm so very cold and dark too.
    His partner climbed a 12 ft fence to get to us to try to keep us warm, fire service came and cut through fence and I went into a police van to strip off and get dry clothing on till an ambulance arrived.
    Ben came to visit and we chatted on my boat for a couple of hours, he and his partner were just amazing that night saving my life.
    (there is a bit of video of it being lifted out the canal on my channel.)

    In my opinion there shouldn't be such a thing as a legal drink and driving limit. If you're driving there shouldn't be any alcohol in your system period. Taking into account there are so many options to get home without driving these days you literally have no excuse to get behind a wheel if you had a few.

    • @poruatokin
      @poruatokin 2 дні тому +6

      The problem with that approach is that there are things other than alcoholic drinks that can result in a small level of blood alcohol. Or, as I suspect in many cases, a driver plays it safe on the night (taxi, carpool etc), but the following morning on the way to work, there may still be residual alcohol in the bloodstream.

      As poruatokin says, zero threshold is simply not practical. Apart from things like mouthwash and certain medications, some common foods and drinks (e.g. bread, bananas, pears, fruit juice, vinegar, mustard, soy sauce) can naturally have some alcohol content.

    First responder is supposed to be the first to the accident scene, This is one stops and tells a vehicle to "watch out". Your responding to a life threatening situation the last thing you should do is extend the duration it will take for you to respond by stopping to ask a vehicle that has already delayed your response to ask if they could "WATCH OUT" .
    Stupid tbh.

    The price some pay for their mistake. I was lucky when I was younger, probably did a few things that at the time you do not realise how dangerous they are kind of thing. I was very lucky, grew out of it quickly though, when a few good friends of mine over the years had been killed in car crashes. Again stupidity led to those, it seems stupidity causes many crashes. It is genuinely best to not drive like an idiot, obviously, we can see why in this video here as to what can happen and quickly.
    Waste of life, and we all know it, and that is also someones family member, regardless of how it happened. Just sad and a massive waste of life.

    Once again the cops try to secure a drink drive conviction...using...time....to allow the sample taken to be 40mins + as that will allow blood alcohol level to rise...most drivers would have arrived home in a much shorter time frame...with a lower reading....now you know why the cop always asks how long since your last drink...and if its less than 5-10 mins...they will create a delay between the stop and sample given...lots of unlikely convictions achieved.... tick tick....nick nick nick
