I am thankful that I made the trip to see John for the last time at Merlefest 2016. He left us a treasure chest of great music! We will miss this fantastic songster!
John Prine is my #1, #2 and #3 most favourite artists. I am 65 and have been listening to him since I was about 20. I was homeless a few times and lost everything. Eventually getting back on my feet... the first music I would re-buy would be John Prine. He's as much a part of my heart as any family member I have. And I say that in a positive way. Just a couple of nights ago, Christmas Eve, 2018 I was invited to an afternoon guitar jam sharing music with a friend's mom. Her mom is 81. 'Mom' was having such a great time and at one point Peggy, her daughter, leaned over and asked her what her favourite music of all time was. Her response nearly knocked Peggy off her seat... without taking a second to think she said... John Prine. Peggy was shocked because for years I have tried to get Peggy to learn some John Prine and she always declined. As of Christmas Eve she has a brand new goal in life. Learn John Prine so we can play for her mother again.
Everytime I here a John Prine song it reminds me of my stepdad and best friend. I hope you are both playing your guitars together. I will remember you always.
The world is smaller tonight but also better for his having lived and taught us all so well. May you fly home on the wings of an angel from Montgomery...my prophet, my hero...JP.
I bought his first album in 1970 or 71 and I saw him live twice and I still love him and even though I'm almost 72 yrs old and still remember almost all his lyrics as they're too great to forget!
God bless this wonderful man. He is one of the very best songwriters in American history, leaving behind an incredible musical legacy that takes a back seat to none.
So long, John, old friend, thank you for the evening at The Warner in Erie and all the years of fun and the wisdom you shared. May bands of Angels sing thee to thy rest.
🌹We all shed a tear for one of our dearest troubadours❤️ 4/7/20 God Speed John, I’ve only listened to you for about half a century but I was hoping for another decade or two. You will be missed
Great childhood memories to this song..my aunt and uncle would play this when I was 7 or 8....they were like 20..me and my sister would laugh our asses off to this....rest easy Mr. Prine!

my foot fell asleep as I swallowed my candy knowing he was in heaven before he died...
is that a Ry Cooder lookalike on lead guitar?
I hope this was the last song he sung as he crossed over. ....
