RIP John, I’ve been listening to John Prine and Steve Goodman since the 70’s. Such great, modest singer song writers who often played together in those days. I hope they are playing together in Heaven.
Here I am at this video again. My brother sent it to me 2x’s when he knew his health was failing. He was trying “to get on with it all” but he knew this time he couldn’t; it just wasn’t in him. He is gone now, so I just come listen and remember and now “I try to get on with it all” myself.

This song tells the story of my brother I lost in a motorcycle accident over 25 years ago. He was a lost and wandering soul, trying to find a new beginning. I wish he were here so I could share this song with him.

Rest In Peace John. You have been my hero since I was a teen of 16. Today at 60 I am heartbroken over losing you. Your music has gotten me through the biggest struggles in my life and you were playing in some of my most beautiful memories. So long until we meet again old friend...
@Randy Bingham have you in my thoughts and prayers brother in your battle. John fought and beat cancer twice and it truly breaks my heart to see this damn Coronavirus take him from us. I've seen him perform 27 times and each time was a pleasure to be in his presence.
Randy Bingham Sorry to hear about your health problem. Wish you the best and God bless. Not sure if we're related, 67 from Illinois, but really aren't we all. I remember John in the 1970's and now he's taken that final unknown trip that we all must take. So help somebody, do some good. The world needs it and it's good for the soul. Everyone take care.
Beautifully said! Cheers to you my fellow Prine super fan. I fell in love with him without meeting him. I know of not one musician for which I can say the same. I admire Bill Murray for his understandable deep devotion to Mr. John Prine. Rest in peace - the most amazing man next to my Father and husband (sorta). John Prine is an icon I love unconditionally. My husband is a John i love. If he could do some of what Prine can do, my worship just might reach my level of obsession with Prine. Good thing is he adores him as much as me.
Kenneth thanks for sharing your story. I saw him only a few times in show and am a few years behind you in age. He and Tom Petty will forever be my favorite voices in music.
When I first heard this Blaze Foley song I really thought it sounded like a John Prine song.. Very happy to have found this little gem. RIP to both these legends.
John Prine was the greatest among writer of our generation. Bar none. He meals the world to me...and always will. Authenticity is beyond rare in 2024. He gives me comfort, joy, sadness and unendimg love...
I grew up just outside Newcastle upon Tyne in the UK. My elder Brother played me Sam Stone back in the 70´s when I was about 10 or eleven. God only knows where he got it from. The song stuck in my mind and many years later when the internet arrived, I searched for and learned it. Im a working Musician and sing it now and again. RIP John Prine. A Bard of the first Order. Your memory lives on in your songs that people sing.
From a fellow Geordie - this song kills me every time. Blaze Foley had a tough life but to write just one song like this? What a talent. I love John Prine's version and it's good to know you're still singing this song :)
What a beautiful rendition of such a beautiful song. If Blaze had been alive to see this I'm sure he would have cried, it really does embody a man who was far to little known.
How can I have listened to music for 60 years and never heard of this musical genius until he passed away, and then only by pure chance? At least now I have his entire repotoire to catch up on.
Me and my girl flew out to Denver on Friday and flew home Saturday morning. John prime and Emmy Lou at Red rocks. One of my most memorable moments. And I had tickets tickets to see him before he died. Chicago dude from Maywood delivering mail, went down to Memphis and made it.

John prime caused me to play and sing and try to write. He sure had a way with words. I never got to see him or meet him . I learned a little of his songs, and when I play them for people they tell me it made them happier than they were. With mr prine, a little was a whole lot. Love you john.
I can't imagine they're whatever be another John Prine. I love when he tells the stories of writing songs, in the car on the way to a gig, just so he will have a song that is appropriate for the audience.

It's the most John Prine sounding song that John didn't write that there ever could be.
Yes, I felt similarly about ‘That’s how every empire falls’.
I just said the same thing, out loud, nearly verbatim, to my wife...indeed.
It's beautiful. John just picked it up and knew what to deliver. Beautiful.

This song tells the story of my brother I lost in a motorcycle accident over 25 years ago. He was a lost and wandering soul, trying to find a new beginning. I wish he were here so I could share this song with him.

I sure as hell miss John.. Taken way too soon. He was genuinely an American legend. RIP John.
I’m a fan of John since the early 70’s. Bought all the albums and wore that vinyl out. Saw him in concert only once, unfortunately. Sad to see him go, he died on my birthday 4/7.
Who came here from Toni's absolutely beautiful cover? Blaze Foley's simple lyrics are poetry.
Came here today from Jesse Welles’ cover. I had forgotten that John Prine didn’t write it.
Great version of a bona fide classic. Rest easy John and Blaze.
Saw John at Tobacco Road, near Sparta, NC in the mid '70s. Never heard of him before, haven't forgotten him since ...
----- " He sang about you and me the realities of daily life with 4 chords yet achieved more respect than the glitter fireworks flashing larger than life's jumbo screen tv's! " --------
Songwriters like John and Blaze don't come along very often! Thanks for all The Best John!!

52 here. i totally concur with your thoughts and memories. cheers
He picking and singing in Paradise.❤❤😢😢😢❤❤
When I first heard this Blaze Foley song I really thought it sounded like a John Prine song.. Very happy to have found this little gem. RIP to both these legends.
I can relate ,..old soul nobody's sensible
Gonna miss you. 😢such a great poet and writer.
John Prine was the greatest among writer of our generation. Bar none. He meals the world to me...and always will. Authenticity is beyond rare in 2024. He gives me comfort, joy, sadness and unendimg love...
Can't you imagine the music John Prine, Blaze Foley, Townes Van Zandt, Merle, and Waylon are making in heaven.

Prine songs will live forever
He was an absolute genius, just a great musician and story teller ❤
What a beautiful rendition of such a beautiful song. If Blaze had been alive to see this I'm sure he would have cried, it really does embody a man who was far to little known.
This is a message that moves me to tears and being thankful. 😊
How can I have listened to music for 60 years and never heard of this musical genius until he passed away, and then only by pure chance? At least now I have his entire repotoire to catch up on.
Life starts at 55
Me and my girl flew out to Denver on Friday and flew home Saturday morning. John prime and Emmy Lou at Red rocks. One of my most memorable moments. And I had tickets tickets to see him before he died. Chicago dude from Maywood delivering mail, went down to Memphis and made it.
Everytime I listen too a John Prine song on you tube, I read the comments. And they're just outstanding.
Tuned in John ❤😢😊❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
It's literally every song that touches you never gets old no matter how many times you have seen him or listen to one of a kind.

I still cry for John 😢 i started in the 70s with him
John prime caused me to play and sing and try to write.
John Prine and Blaze Foley.......American treasure of the finest quality. Kinda music I want to hear during my final gulps of air.
Don’t often hear John sing someone else’s song, but when he does it becomes his…so beautiful🌺
This song changed the way I was living, just for myself; I changed and started living for others; empathy that is, got tired of being lonely.
Favorite song all time, doesn’t matter who plays it. This version especially powerful
I can see Blaze and John plays this song in Heaven, right now. So beautiful.
How lucky we were to have this man. They’ll never be another.

I discovered this man in the last 6 months. What a precious character he is.
Well…Better late than never. Welcome to the John Prine fan club. He gave us enough good music to enjoy for a lifetime.
Saw him @ Red Rocks once
Feel blessed for that
That song has a lot to say John did a great job on it. John and Blaze are both missed.
