      I feel positively BLESSED to have seen Mr Prine live twice in the years before the pandemic. I only learned of him around 2002. A true national treasure - the singing mailman. I would like to see a respectful bio pic done one day.

      When I think about simpler times, and start to miss my dear brother who passed over a decade ago, I find myself listening to John Prine. His music is tattooed on my soul and in my heart. I discovered him in 1973 while washing my brother's car and I popped in one of his cassette tapes. I am an old woman these days... and yes, I sure do choke up.

    This and other cuts from "Fair and Square"..., I was in Nashville when Johnny Cash passed away, and "Johnny Prine" filled his shoes softly and sweetly . Now I play both of these Icons songs and remember those gifts of love from the ...other Bob Dylan's; "Cash, Prine, Kristopherson, LeBlanc and others like Guthry, and Charly Daniels / aka Sam Stone ( ...he loved veterans like John Prine).... My father would play John Prine albums back in the early 70’s which doesn’t sound unusual, but you see I’m from Scotland and as far I was concerned my dad was the coolest cat on the planet, as I thought we were the only people listening to this genius in Scotland back then, I was wrong of course, rest easy John, god speed.

    • @johnny5fingers0966
      @johnny5fingers0966 2 роки тому +18

      I still think just by this description that for the time and place your dad may have been in the running for the coolest man on the planet. Scottish people get bumped up a bunch just because they're Scottish and have the very best slang and and they have the best back and forth shit talking I've ever witnessed. I don't think a Scottish ego can grow too far out of proportion because the rest of the country will certainly k rock them down a peg or two. Cheers.

    I was heartbroken before he ever sang a word. I was one of those with a “hole in his arm where all the money goes”. I carried Prine around in a stolen walkman player with a beat up cassette over-due from a library loaned in another state. He spoke pictures of life folks lived like he knew us personally. Like he lived it himself and had the words that connected with the feelings. But i won’t miss him, too much, I’ve got the legacy he’s left us. I wish i could tell him “thanks”.

    What an honor it would have been to have known John Prine and been his friend . I’m 83 years old and become a fan of JP only within the last few years ( what in heck took me so damned long ? ) . Every song he sings touches me in a way that no other singer does , because in every song you can feel John’s presence and soul . And makes me feel like my best friend is singing . . . . to me . . . and other friends of his . RIP JP , you’re loved.

    Here I am at this video again. My brother sent it to me 2x’s when he knew his health was failing. He was trying “to get on with it all” but he knew this time he couldn’t; it just wasn’t in him. He is gone now, so I just come listen and remember and now “I try to get on with it all” myself.

I remember John in the 1970's and now he's taken that final unknown trip that we all must take. So help somebody, do some good. The world needs it and it's good for the soul. Everyone take care.

      Beautifully said! Cheers to you my fellow Prine super fan. I fell in love with him without meeting him. I know of not one musician for which I can say the same. I admire Bill Murray for his understandable deep devotion to Mr. John Prine. Rest in peace - the most amazing man next to my Father and husband (sorta). John Prine is an icon I love unconditionally. My husband is a John i love. If he could do some of what Prine can do, my worship just might reach my level of obsession with Prine. Good thing is he adores him as much as me.

    I grew up just outside Newcastle upon Tyne in the UK. My elder Brother played me Sam Stone back in the 70´s when I was about 10 or eleven. God only knows where he got it from. The song stuck in my mind and many years later when the internet arrived, I searched for and learned it. Im a working Musician and sing it now and again.
    RIP John Prine. A Bard of the first Order. Your memory lives on in your songs that people sing.
