Nice rainbows!! This creek has been on my list for a while now, but I never seem to make it up there. I'm glad to hear the water is patrolled regularly and the warden actually checks the hooks and everything.

Piru is amazing. it is very hot and flows are very low right now, but this fall when the creek gets more water and temps cool I would highly recommend checking it out. Just don't forget to by an Adventure Pass before heading out!

@@HookontheFly Thank you, Jordan! Fall is just around the corner, so hopefully there creek will be a worthy destination. And yes, thanks for reminder, I completely forgot about the Adventure Pass!! It's been ages since I last needed one.

Great video! I do miss fishing that little creek, but it's been about 30-40 years since I've been up there, before they had the big flood that washed out parts of the road. I remember catching some good sized browns deep in the gorge back then. I am glad that the DFW has stepped up their patrols in that area, as it is remote and pretty much lawless, pretty far away from the main highway.

It's been tough with heat and drought, but the fish are strong and always seem to make a come back! I've never caught a brown there, guess I never made it far enough into the canyon.

@@HookontheFly I don't think those browns are there anymore, with all the floods in the past 30 years or so. One of the fish I did catch there in the gorge many decades ago had a DFG plastic tag on it. Of course I released the fish, but clipped the tag off and sent to the DFG address indicated on it. After a few months I did receive a letter from the head Biologist at the time Dr. Phil Pfister and he indicated in the letter that the tag belonged to a fish, among others, stocked in the stream in an effort by DFG to create a viable brown trout fishery at that time. But I believe, because there were no special regulations in effect at that time, most of those fish were either probably caught or died off as result of low water conditions, drought etc...

Go hit Tinnemaha, Goodale, and Taboose up 395. Ive pulled 2lb Browns out of there.
Those are some beautiful LA county bows you got!
I live in NM now. I do miss fly fishing the surf in Socal. I chase musky, walleye and rio grande browns to fill the void. Cheers!

Right on, I've fished Tinnemaha but never Goodale or Taboose, I'll have to check them out! I'm just glad to have wild trout so close to LA, even if they are on the smaller side. Never caught a musky before, it's on my bucket list!

New Zealand. very light and good for not spooking fish because they don't plop when they land on the water, and they float by kind of like a leaf. Good for single nymphing. but they don't do well in any kind of fast water or with heavy nymphs bc they will sink.
