Wow, recognized Piru Creek instantly. I'm 76 now and used to fish there in my thirties and forties when we lived in the San Fernando valley. They stocked it in those days.

Fished Piru often in the 70s. At Frenchmans and also downstream near the old Blue Point Campground up from Lake Piru. We would hike up to Ellis Apiary and the gorge. Some true wilderness and good trout and bass fishing near where Fish Creek pours in. Nasty little black flies are a beech. Thanks for stirring up the memories.
1. I been fishing this creek and up stream for over 45 years,,,I only use one bait to knock them dead,, Single hook salmon egg,,,2. If you go way down 2-4 miles …down piru you’ll run into some big pools with huge trout,,1 lb plus trout,,,3. The fishing up-stream towards the Dam is good also,,,

I fished thier not too long ago. The hike into that area alone was one hell of an experience. We did catch some fish most very small, but what beautiful colors. If we were to fish in their again, I'd definitely be armed with bear spray and a gun. The brush can be super thick and you will need to build makeshift creek crossings. It's hard fishing because it's very thick in there. Wear good shoes, pants and a shirt. Lots of bugs, and you may encounter snakes. Again, it's not an easy hike into this canyon and its bear country. This spot isn't for everyone. Thanks for the video. I found it very informative.

@7:31 That is correct. It is pronounced as Pie-Roo. Looks like you're fishing (south) downstream from the parking lot. It is harder to trek farther south due to the steep mountain sides. Going upstream (north), far up the paved road, you run into another good spot. It's a deep pool. It's only good when no one else is around. The native trout are small but feisty. I always caught and released mine from there.
My God, I haven't fished Piru Creek and the Sespe Wilderness since the early 70's. FWIW, Sespe Creek was where Manson attorney Ronald Hughes disappeared back in 1970, at the beginning of the Manson murder trials.. His skeletal remains were found in March, 1971.

NE iowa is gorgeous! I’ve only been on one fishing trip up there, check out where canoe creek meets the upper Iowa. Caught rainbows, smallies, walleye and pike all within 100yds river
Head east on I80 to boca stampede reservoir fish the truckee river and the little truckee river between the two reservoirs its alot of fun watch for rattle snakes it's that time of year TIGHT LINES FOOD LUCK
Some nice hot springs in that area too. If you into that sort of thing. Never fished piru but have fished the sespi many times. And the other commenters are correct. They haven’t stocked that area in years. It’s all natives and remnant stocker populations now.
Awesome! Beautiful spot. While you're in CA you should definitely do some saltwater fishing if possible. There are some really unique species around here that you can't find anywhere else in the world!

Fun spot. I try to never touch the fish besides holding the lower jaw. You can get the hook out that way, and even hold the fish up to look at and take pics of. Why people must hold a fish they are not keeping is likely because they don't know any different. Seems best to not disturb the slime layer.
I grew up fishing here, water was deeper back in the day. You use to be able to drive all the way up. A bunch of people ruined it for everyone, trash, dirty diapers, etc...
You are in Rattlesnake country!! I suspect it's still cool enough that having an encounter with one is slim. I used to fish Lake Piru, and Sespie Creek up above Ojai, almost step on them if you are fishing during the time they come out to sun bath.
Yep! I fished Piru Creek in the 80s. There wasn't any trouble with Rattlers close to the parking area, but venturing into the canyon you better watch out.
You should hike in to the back of the kern river where the big kern and the little kern split off it's beautiful there and it qould be nice to see it again
@@GomezBro depending on water clarity the fish see the line if it’s too thick, and they won’t hold onto the fly as long if they feel the line. Also,12lb line wouldn’t fit through some of the flies eyes that I use.
Pleasantly surprised that fish have survived there....the last ten years of so have been brutal....fires, then floods from rain silting up the water.....and being do close to LA....it gets hit pretty hard. Watch out for your car in the parking lot too......A-holes will break into your vehicle for whatever they can find
Biggest trout I caught was a 5lb German Brown out of Cresent Lake in Oregon was on a Chartreuse and Black Panther Martin. Fishing for Kakanee is great there as well
TENKARA for sure! Ancient Asian method of using flies and nymphs in the tiniest remote waters. Literally walking upstream hitting the pools. Collapsing telescopic rod you store in a metal tube and toss in your backpack. Keep your spinning set up as your primary and pull out the Tenkara as another tool. Check it out.

I live In the sierras close to the rubicon. If you wanna kill it on some small creeks. Smack some grasshoppers/crickets with your hat to stun them and put them in a jar alive. Cast them out with a small hook. You will catch a fish every single cast that cricket is on your hook

Your video has a lot of misinformation. Piru Creek has not been stocked in over 15 years. All of the fish in that creek and native / wild fish. The creek below the weir falls under regular trout regs. Upstream of the weir is catch and release only with single barbless hooks. Fishing above the last bridge before the dam is illegal. All of us anglers from Southern California who cherish this local water (since there aren’t a lot of trout fisheries available to us) would appreciate if you updated this video or even took it down. There is danger is people thinking that a creek is stocked when it isn’t. This creek has had issues and continues to have issues with poaching. Please do your research before you put information out there.

I don't know where the rugged sportsman's getting his information but there's nothing but native fish there. That's why it's completely catch and release barbless hook single hook setup no bait.
You probably ended up killing that fish by the manner you held it with dry hands and throwing the fish into the stream.. Please learn how to properly release trout.

That’s how California is no signs until a warden comes by & says it’s illegal & on the flip side you see signs all over saying No hunting fishing or trespassing & stay out.
You should really be more mindful about stating where you're fishing. It isn't informative it just adds unnecessary pressure to that location. There is practically no wild trout left there because of people blowing up the spot. Next thing you know there is going to be empty powerbait and salmon egg jars all over and no trout.
If it weren't for bait dunkers license money, there probably wouldn't be anyway. I flyfish and bait/lure fish, just don't use bait for catch and release. I've seen plenty of trash left by flyfishermen.
So you didn’t look up the Local regulations for this creek and just started fishing with barbed hooks assuming they were stocked Trout .because there are wild trout only in that area. Respect local creeks with wild fish in them or don’t fish them at all. We already have a problem with people poaching and not respecting the area last thing we need is some famous UA-camr doing it on the Internet. And I agree with the other guy you talk too damn much just shut up and fish

Try a clear bubble above a barrel swivel with those flies.

Bring the bikes/scooter. On the other side of the white poles you can ride up to I think where it comes out of the lake.

Why do people use 4 lb line? 8 lb etc? Im using 10 or 12lb minimum at all times? Whats the difference?

Try Reyes creek. It’s not far from where you were in this video. They even plant it occasionally. Usually pretty good fishing.

If you want to fish California creeks, you have to get to the eastern Sierras. Go to Bishop, check your maps and get busy.

You should really be more mindful about stating where you're fishing. It isn't informative it just adds unnecessary pressure to that location. There is practically no wild trout left there because of people blowing up the spot. Next thing you know there is going to be empty powerbait and salmon egg jars all over and no trout.
If it weren't for bait dunkers license money, there probably wouldn't be anyway. I flyfish and bait/lure fish, just don't use bait for catch and release. I've seen plenty of trash left by flyfishermen.
So you didn’t look up the Local regulations for this creek and just started fishing with barbed hooks assuming they were stocked Trout .because there are wild trout only in that area. Respect local creeks with wild fish in them or don’t fish them at all. We already have a problem with people poaching and not respecting the area last thing we need is some famous UA-camr doing it on the Internet.
