California creek trout are typically less than 12” and mostly 6-10” . Light gear, small flies, have fun! Nice vid! 🤙🏼

Fished Piru often in the 70s. At Frenchmans and also downstream near the old Blue Point Campground up from Lake Piru. We would hike up to Ellis Apiary and the gorge. Some true wilderness and good trout and bass fishing near where Fish Creek pours in. Nasty little black flies are a beech. Thanks for stirring up the memories.

    1. I been fishing this creek and up stream for over 45 years,,,I only use one bait to knock them dead,, Single hook salmon egg,,,2. If you go way down 2-4 miles …down piru you’ll run into some big pools with huge trout,,1 lb plus trout,,,3. The fishing up-stream towards the Dam is good also,,,

I fished thier not too long ago. The hike into that area alone was one hell of an experience. We did catch some fish most very small, but what beautiful colors. If we were to fish in their again, I'd definitely be armed with bear spray and a gun. The brush can be super thick and you will need to build makeshift creek crossings. It's hard fishing because it's very thick in there. Wear good shoes, pants and a shirt. Lots of bugs, and you may encounter snakes. Again, it's not an easy hike into this canyon and its bear country. This spot isn't for everyone. Thanks for the video. I found it very informative.

@7:31 That is correct. It is pronounced as Pie-Roo. Looks like you're fishing (south) downstream from the parking lot. It is harder to trek farther south due to the steep mountain sides. Going upstream (north), far up the paved road, you run into another good spot. It's a deep pool. It's only good when no one else is around. The native trout are small but feisty. I always caught and released mine from there.

Fun spot. I try to never touch the fish besides holding the lower jaw. You can get the hook out that way, and even hold the fish up to look at and take pics of. Why people must hold a fish they are not keeping is likely because they don't know any different. Seems best to not disturb the slime layer.

Given the challenges trout face in California, particularly with climate change/drought, and over fishing, highlighting sustainable fishing practices could really benefit the ecosystem and enrich your content. This way, you're not just sharing fishing spots but also promoting the protection of these precious resources for future generations. It seems like you respect these beautiful fish, however I've encountered people on water that don't always share our perspective.

Your video has a lot of misinformation. Piru Creek has not been stocked in over 15 years. All of the fish in that creek and native / wild fish. The creek below the weir falls under regular trout regs. Upstream of the weir is catch and release only with single barbless hooks. Fishing above the last bridge before the dam is illegal. All of us anglers from Southern California who cherish this local water (since there aren’t a lot of trout fisheries available to us) would appreciate if you updated this video or even took it down. There is danger is people thinking that a creek is stocked when it isn’t. This creek has had issues and continues to have issues with poaching. Please do your research before you put information out there.

@@theu.s.ofangling1344 Trout are notorious for deciding themselves what will kill them. Unless you're keeping the fish, there's no need to handle them .grab the hook with a hemostat or needlenose and shake the hook loose while still in net

That’s how California is no signs until a warden comes by & says it’s illegal & on the flip side you see signs all over saying No hunting fishing or trespassing & stay out.

You should really be more mindful about stating where you're fishing. It isn't informative it just adds unnecessary pressure to that location. There is practically no wild trout left there because of people blowing up the spot. Next thing you know there is going to be empty powerbait and salmon egg jars all over and no trout.

If it weren't for bait dunkers license money, there probably wouldn't be anyway. I flyfish and bait/lure fish, just don't use bait for catch and release. I've seen plenty of trash left by flyfishermen.

So you didn’t look up the Local regulations for this creek and just started fishing with barbed hooks assuming they were stocked Trout .because there are wild trout only in that area. Respect local creeks with wild fish in them or don’t fish them at all. We already have a problem with people poaching and not respecting the area last thing we need is some famous UA-camr doing it on the Internet. And I agree with the other guy you talk too damn much just shut up and fish

Do you know how you said even if you don’t know what the fuck you anyway trust me California lives off of that that lol right there is why they make things so complicated and confusing is there a cash cow and it’s sad that we have to deal with this in California you will definitely find yourself a fish and game person during your episode probably 100% guaranteed and if not it is a very big fluke
