Powered Up is one of the most feature-rich, robust remakes I've ever seen, and it's a tragedy that this game hasn't been rereleased on any modern platform. I could see this gaining a huge community of level designers if it were on a more popular system

Well Level-Editors were a thing before, especially during the late 90's. I remember Tomb Raider 5: Chronicles coming with a Level Editor on its first PC release (sadly not included with the Steam version) and Rayman had Rayman Designer that allowed you to construct your own levels, even Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 had a level editor.

in all honesty this was the one thing that I hated about Megaman 9 and 10, they were great games but the whole need to make it like "Megaman 2" meant Megaman with no explanation didn't have his charge shot or slide, I just don't like games with challenges relies on removing things you had for years, playing Protoman who had them was no help since he died faster, so those were my choices play a barebones Megaman or play a character who had those things but died faster. At the very least if you wanted to use a base Megaman for the main game, I always felt they could have done what Powered up did and MAKE that improved Megaman unlockable

I believe the art style also helped keep the feeling of the game. It's extremely tough to go to a higher resolution and even different aspect ratio so the 3d art style and chibi nature of the characters as well as detailing the geometry of the levels a bit more attains a very accurate representation of the original 2d game.
Fun Fact: Mega Man for the NES is Mega Man 2 for the famicon since Capcom found the first Rockman (megaman in japan) too hard for western audience.

Dan, I love the channel, love all the content you do regardless of what system, whether it's shadow of the colossus, minigames (hope to see you do more of those again one day!), or snes/genesis. Really, it could be anything. And I've really really enjoyed the What's the Difference videos, which have allowed me to watch new content from you without having to simultaneously process so many mixed emotions from watching an episode of Console Wars without Greg in it. I think you do quality work and your effort shows. So I didn't want this to be seen as a "hater" comment or someone from the peanut gallery trying to control your artistic vision. Clearly, I'm a big fan.
All that being said, I really much prefer keeping the What's the Difference format with 32-bit systems and lower, or just focusing primarily on Sega Cd games, like you have been. It's helped me to explore the library of the sega cd, and to take a second look at some games I would've ignored, much the same way Console Wars proper has also helped me discover several games I'd previously written off.
Keep creating new content! I will watch it either way.

Over-all, I'd say yes, Powered Up is an awesome game... It is indeed fun to play, I enjoy the backgrounds and stage object designs, the additional intro stage, the voice acting, and being able to play as more characters than just MegaMan alone. Where it got weird for me as a long-time MegaMan gamer: 1. I would have preferred an art style similar to MegaMan 7 or 8, or something a step up from that... rather than the "chibi" style. 2. After all the years of MegaMan, and a long-established numbered list of Robot Masters, suddenly there are two new Robot Masters in the retelling of the beginning that don't have numbers on their own, and/or would have offset everything on the list if they did? 3. I didn't really like the change in the long-established Robot Master weaknesses. 4. Including a redesign of Wily Machine 1 instead of using the original and including this new one in a new numbered sequel? 5. Being able to unlock MegaMan's slide before he gained that function in MegaMan 3, and unlock the charge function of his Buster before MegaMan 4... I agree those functions never should have been taken away without explanation in 9 and 10... but to grant them in the retelling of his very first adventure? It just felt like something went very weird with the MegaMan timeline.

I had no idea that the Powered Up level maker server was still up, kind of make you wonder if Capcom completely forgot that they never turned it off. I had this game, I got bored of all the extra stuff, maybe I should give it another go. Unfortunately it's not available in the US psn store so you can't play it on vita or pstv without hacking.
I just wish they would have done this with 2 and 3 instead of 1.

This is pretty good, but why don’t you do the same video with the main difference being that you are comparing the NES version to the Sega Genesis version. (Supposed to be posted 2 years ago.)

All the Megaman games were going to get the powered up treatment, but the psp was so easy to hack that Capcom didn't want to take the risk.

Really wish they would remake the rest. Maybe in mega Man 11 art style though.

@@somanymods me too. If you google megaman (any number) powered up you can see a fan's rendition of what it might have looked like.

Keij did not create mega man Akira Kitamura was the original creator of the franchise before he left capcom others then that one mistake I liked the video. Keep it up

Sure. Let's believe "Series Creator" Kenji Inafune on his word! Chibi style wasn't picked because it was planned. It's because of hardware limitations of the PSP, and capitalism. There. Glad we got that out of the way.
