Mega man games have this unique element to them. Due to their non linear set up, each game becomes better and better the more you revisit them. I love googling a random number generator 1-8 to determine my boss order whenever I play one and I ensure my journey is always different so I can experiment with the levels/weapons differently. This is how I have the most fun with them.
That's interesting. I usually use a boss list. I think 5 and 6 where the only one's I just free styled through. That's a cool thought though. Maybe I'll try randomly picking the order in the future.
@@MeguhFan I definitely recommend it. When you choose, you kinda get into a groove and use the same weapons for each situation but when you don't have those weapons, you are forced to improvise. For instance, like most people I'm sure, I thought top spin was god awful in MM3 but now I absolutely love top spin. I figured out that if an enemy isn't one shotted than they are immune. So you learn when it's useful and there are parts of the game that are built for it. For instance the parachute guys in the last corridor before shadow man's boss room. Every enemy in the room including the jumping dudes are one shot by top spin. You can equip it at the start and tear through the entire room with it. So satisfying. Before that I would use magnet but after that I get excited to rip it up. Good times
Replayability has always been one of megaman’s strengths, regardless of series. Figuring out where you can buster only, e tank order, and experimenting with the special weapons in different stages makes the games super fun. I personally believe that the greatest enjoyment from a megaman game isn’t from going in blind but from revisiting the game in ways you haven’t played it before
Mega Man 2 is very overrated honestly, though its dying off in recent years, as people come to realize the later NES games were much better than MM2 (specially MM4)
@@Orangatang1998 most people are hestitant due to the abundance of gimmicks, the first time I played 8 I actually quite liked Frost Man's sled segments including Tengu Man
@@Orangatang1998 That day has come, because for me this was always one of my favorite Mega Man games. I loved all the gimmicks, and the game has quite possibly my favorite set of Robot Masters. Their voices as well as their dialogue gave them so much personality, and were enjoyably hammy unlike the dub for the cutscenes.
Mega Man 9 is one of my favorite games of all time, and one that I try to use for inspiration. Mega Man 4 is easily my favorite of the original NES games. Both games are really good and, in my honest opinion, underrated.
@-themessenger- I played the game originally a year after a came out but I remembered nothing about so I replayed it for the first time 3 years ago. If anything I played Megaman 10 more when I was a kid and when I replayed it after 9, I found myself liking 9 more
Mega Man is such a good series to be a fan of, so many games to play and (especially later on during the GBA era) so many different genres like RPGs. Great work keep it up you.
They're still at it. Look up gunvolt for a very similar experience to MegaMan zero games. Dragon marked for death if you want ye olde MegaMan in medival ages
Mega Man 2 is what started it all for me over 30 years ago and will always be my favorite, though it is definitely a flawed masterpiece, but the OST is among the all time greats alongside other Capcom titles of the era (. 11 is really pretty amazing, it became my son's gateway, it I love it as much as him, and 8 is my dark horse favorite where I love it and am well aware it is not a critical reference point for the series. Best select screen music too imo. Good, and very reasonable. You made 2 being in 7th place make enough sense to where I disagree, but am very bad at the perfect balance of subjectivity and objectivity. Great video my guy.
Mega Man 5 is completely underrated and overshadowed. It is the best out of the NES games in my opinion. I had a desire to play through the game twice today. That's how you know a game is that good. :)
Mega Man 9 is my favourite as well. There were a few enemy placements that were questionable, but I have found them hilarious (like that flying robot that pulls you right into the spikes just when you are about to use the ladder etc).
And to think, if they re-released the Sega Saturn version of MM8 with it's better environmental effects, with the addition of those Wood & Cut Man battles, WHILE getting some company like Funimation to re-dub the the voice overs I think Mega man fans would see it in an entirely new light. As is, the high pitched Mega man vocals drive me nuts, both in-game("Ha!" "Ha!"), while obviously including the cut scenes, topped with good old elmer Fudd Dr. Light. 8, visually speaking, still looks better than 11 too. ;) It truly is the best looking MM game to date IMO. A game that released in like 1996/1997.
Exactly. And I do love the gameplay there. I still know the jetboard and shoot'em up levels by heart, I can beat it first try since I was a kid (but I get the hate, my college roommate tried several times and gave up on Willy Fortress when he couldn't beat the boss and would have to replay the jetskate part). I like the weapons and secrets, the shops (the arrow buster is awesome), and man, the Bass fight and soundtrack are awesome. And as a kid, the dub didn't bother me so much. But you can always play in Japanese if that bothers you do much. Also, I absolutely love the level design of Sword Man's level.
There was over a decade of down time between 8 and 9. When 8 came out it had (and still has) cutting edge sprite art. 9 was the return of the Mega Man franchise, and it was the same year Street Fighter returned with Street Fighter 4 (it was a good year for gaming). I don't know why, but I think it was ultimately a marketing decision. Street Fighter 4 was very modern, and the idea of a new game with 8 bit graphics was very unique at the time.
i never noticed the good points you made about mm4 being so balanced. now that you made me think about it. 1, 2, 3, and 5 have such horrible balance in comparison. i agree 9 is the best but 2 is my most played for the music alone. 11 might be my fave if the music didnt suck and if the wily stages after stage 1 were more challenging/action packed. now i wanna beat 4 again its been so long i was so good as a kid i flew threw the game too fast, now my jump timing is terrible plus i do buster only these days so ill get to appreciate the levels more this time. i hated mm7 i only played it once as a kid i finally feel like giving it another chance because the sprites are amazing. awesome video!!
Trying to get my good friend on xbox into mega man, i gifted him the collection and had no idea of telling him where to start. I just told him to start with 2 lol
Some bold picks on your part. I'm in total agreement with 4, taking nostalgia out of the equation, it's the best Mega Man in the series. The levels are so well done, and I utilized almost all of the boss weapons in various situations throughout the game. They all seemed necessary and purposeful. The whole game just felt so balanced and complete. Outside of Mega Man 2 (and Maybe 9) Mega Man 4 had my favorite music in the series too. I've never been able to get into 7 though -- though I never played it until I was an adult. It has too many secrets that are too cryptic for me. Sure, if I had the time and a guide, I may have loved this game as a kid. But as an adult, I don't have as much time to dive into these games anymore, so the cryptic nature of 7 turned me off.
Oh yeah, 4 is great! It feels like there isn't any wasted moments when playing through it. I also love the music in 4, some people think it's weird, but I love it. 7 is definitely different, so I get why some people don't love it.
I've played all 6 NES Mega Man games. I'm in firm agreement that the 4th game is the best. The level design and weapons are really solid. Though, I think the music in MM4 really isn't up to par to something like MM2, but that doesn't make the latter game better.
Your ranking is well reasoned and makes a lot of interesting points, but if you don't mind some constructive criticism: The footage you chose almost never had any relation to what the voiceover was talking about at that moment. The only times when something related to what you were saying appeared on screen, it was a still image that interrupted the otherwise random gameplay clip. When you mention the Rush armor in 6, for example, the viewer naturally expects to see a clip where you're using it; when you single out how good the Snake Man stage design is, the footage is showing Hard Man stage, and so on. It takes a lot more editing time , but it makes for a much more engaging video.
New to your channel, great video and fantastic list. Your rankings are about the same as mine. More people should give 4 another shot. I know 2 is a fan favorite, but 4 is so great and improves on everything from 2&3.
Great to see MM9 get some love! It’s truly a fantastic return to form and deserves a spot next to the fan favorites like 2 and 3. It’s got creative level design and a fantastic soundtrack. It’s biggest strength in my opinion is versatility of the robot master weapons. Unlike other games in the series they are all useful here and have some utility. Black hole bomb sucks up enemies and projectiles. Laser trident is piercing and can damage enemies with a shield up. Jewel satellite is by far the best orbital shield in the series, stopping projectiles and destroying weak enemies. Tornado blow while costly in energy consumption, is an enemy screen clear that doubles as a high jump for Mega Man with a properly timed jump. Hornet chaser is a homing shot that zeroes in on enemies but will also collect power ups and bring them back to you. Anyway that’s not quite all of them but you get the idea. Fun and very useful weapons in this game!
This was a really great list. I've got 2 sets, the ones I'll replay a 1000 times and the others. 2,3,4,9 & 11. 2,3,4 no comment needed. 9 was amazing. It's a fantastic megaman game. Great art, bosses, weapons, music. It's the game that most wanted since 4. Megaman 11.... this was such a great game. You're review nailed it. The double gear system and quick weapon system made this super fun. If 9 was here's megaman at his core, this was here's that on steroids. I love the classics, but man it was so nice to see a polished, well thought out, beautiful update to my favorite game series. I didn't care for the music first, but at some point ended up with the soundtrack playing in my car and looking up guitar covers.😂 In the music was good, but would've been a bit better with a bit more X/Zero style. Great video!
megaman 4 i love as well, the music sounds so modern, sophisticated, catchy, even the cossack and wily ones are AMAZING, id arguably agree with number one... yes...
I agreed with most of your reasoning for your likes and dislikes of each game, although my personal favorites are 11, 4, 7, and 10. (depending on my mood I fluctuate which order these would be in) great video overall! Fun watch. :)
I don’t think having over powered weapons in megaman 2 is a bad thing. I do respect the list though. I grew up with the series and recently been ahead of ing a massive itch to play them again. I bought the collection on a switch sale and beaten the first two games. Now I’m starting on 3.
Well, while using the weapons the game gives you, it becomes way too easy, without using them there are parts that are simply too hard, so the balancing is really off, for me at least
My ranking from weakest to strongest: 10, 5, 1, 8, 2, 3, 6, 9, 11, 4, 7. My individual scores are very close, averaging on an 8.75 overall. Love this series, and very happy to see that some of my favorite games are getting some love.
Hey, no disrespect but what do you enjoy about 7? I strongly dislike 7 and have struggled to see the appeal of 7 for years. Perhaps another perspective might enlighten me
I love 7! I see why you may not like it, as its pretty easy imo. I personally love the visuals, robot master designs, (especially) the music, all the details of the enemies and bosses and I really like the flow of the game!
Thanks for sharing your list! When I first played 10 it was a lot lower, but I grew on me. It looks like we have similar views on 5, 2, 11, and 4. 7 isn't the top for me, but I understand the love. 7 has a lot going for it.
7 has a great "vibe". The music is cool. The graphics are cool. It feels very much like a snes game, but it still feels very much like a classic Mega Man game. My favorite think about 7 is the exploration. Between finding Proto Man, the letters, you can burn down the forest in the dinosaur level, and all the bolts there is just so much cool stuff to find in the levels. There are also so many quirky details in 7. Freeze man will sit and taunt you if you don't move. You can get the Ghost and Goblin's song to play in Shade Man's level. I understand why people don't like it though. Mega Man's sprite is too big and slow, and the general pace of the game is slower, but I got used to to those problems and fell in love with the game.
@@josephshin9297 I'm glad you asked. I understand that many players are turned off by the bigger sprites and the overall different feel from the NES entries. Personally, I didn't find it too different. It was easy for me to adapt. The developers were aware of the different sprite sizes and physics and designed the levels around them. I know MegaFan mentioned the need to jump at the very edge of the platforms, but I've been doing that in every Mega Man game, especially Air Man's stage in 2 and Toad Man's stage in 4. Also, out of all the Mega Man Classic games, 7 was the one that innovated the most while still retaining its identity as a Classic game. Sure, there's switching weapons on the fly and all that; but then there's also secret areas, some branching paths, and other cool easter eggs that took me several playthroughs to discover. Everybody who's played 7 knows about the effects the subweapons have on the environment itself, but there are also smaller instances like using Shade Man's weapon to stun the forklift driver in Turbo Man's stage. Also, while there is an option to buy items and Rush Adaptors, finding them in the stages is not only possible, but more rewarding. You have no idea how good it feels to get the Hyper Bolt, or the Super Rush Adaptor. And then, there's the bosses themselves. When you use a boss' weakness against them, their reactions to it make it clear that you are doing something right. Some may call it "Spark Mandrill Syndrome," but upon further examination, I've concluded that it's not as cheap as that. Also, there is at least one instance of a Robot Master that can actually heal/strengthen when hit with a certain subweapon! Never before, and never since have they done that! Adds a layer of strategy to the fight, if you ask me. And that final Wily Battle, yes it's hard, but I've replayed it so long that I got a jumping -and-sliding pattern down to efficiently avoid taking damage. Any final boss that takes practice to beat, putting everything you've learned from your playthrough to the ultimate test, is a good final boss to me. And the graphics are actually super good, especially for a SNES game. It almost looks like a real hand-drawn cartoon. Every sprite just looks so expressive and lively. But what I love most about 7 is that it's the most consistently good Mega Man game. At no point does it feel like I've been cheated, and difficulty increased at an even pace compared to other Mega Man games. The only thing I don't like about the game is that you can't skip the opening cutscene without a password, but as long as you have it written down, it should be a non-issue. Sorry for the length of my reply; I just needed some time to gush.
As a kid i could never get past the Doc Robot Stages, so i never got to see the Wily Stages until i was an adult. It was an INCREDIBLE feeling to finally see the rest of the game after all those years... i will never forget that, that alone makes it my favourite, my personal history with it
really good list. was happy to see mega man 2 low on the list and 4, 9, and 11 in the top 3. i disagree tho and think that mega man 7 is much better than 3. 3 feels wildly unfinished at times and the wily castle is as easy as it gets.
Nice ranking! I just got into Mega Man 9 a few months ago, and am at the Boss Rush segment, but haven't been able to beat Dr. Wily yet. I had the game from launch on my Wii in 2008-09, but wasn't vibing with it at the time, but got a Switch for my birthday last year and purchased both Legacy Collections and both X Legacy Collections for like $8 apiece on sale. Great choice to showcase We Are The Robots from Wily Castle 2, that is by far my favorite song on the STACKED soundtrack of Mega Man 9! I am also playing through Mega Man 8 for the first time, and I enjoy it. Definitely my least favorite, which is a shame since it is a gorgeous game, but it is a fun, different experience than any other Mega Man classic series game. I, too, am a huge fan of Mega Man 4. It might be my favorite, but I have to familiarize myself with 8-10 more, and pick up Mega Man 11 at some point. Perfect balance, as you said, of challenge and fun. I am a huge fan of its soundtrack, maybe my favorite in the series. Personal faves are Cossack 3/4, Wily 3/4, Bright Man, Ring Man, Dust Man, and Skull Man.
I’m 41 and played 2,3, and X-1 to death when I was a kid. If anyone asked I would say ya I’m a huge megaman fan, but this video made me realize the reality that I’m living in the past and haven’t played like 70% of the series😂. Playing 11 now on PS5. Nice video, I started taking it more seriously once I saw two at number seven 🤔.
I agree with some of the picks but personally for me difficulty was never really a factor for; it was all about fun I had with the level design and its uniqueness. Personally my favorite is 6, while it is easy the art style, levels, music, all perfectly come together. The robot master weapons are all also fantastic and really do make the game really fun. Also it was a perfect book end to the NES trilogy, Dr Wily was arrested and while yes I know about the to be continued but my point is mega man 6 definitely felt like the last hurray to an era of classic mega man at least on the NES.
I can understand your picks. Though mine are different, you nicely explained why you picked your order, which brought up great points. Nice video. Thanks.
My best friend and I were so excited when we found out they were making mega man 9. Game franchises weren’t usually resurrected after so long back then and man was the game good. It’s a shame 10 was so much less of an entry though, Bass and Protoman like you said in the video are the reasons to play it, it is a really great game with them.
I hope someday I will upload my list to YT. But my list seems to will have 18 games. 11 from original series, X1, &Bass, Powered Up, The Wily Wars, Dr.Wily's Revenge, Unlimited, Minus Infinity.
I loved 3 for the fact you fight all the bosses from Mega Man 2 on it as well. It's fun seeing what each bosses weakness is and what pings off of them.
I agree with most of your picks, although I have an irrational hatred of 7 and would place it at the bottom. I'm glad to see others coming around to the brilliance of 9, instead of clinging to 2 out of nostalgia (still a great game though). I also needed another playthrough of 10 to see that it is a quite solid game. I'm assuming I enjoyed the stage gimmicks more than you did. Also, how do you feel about Megaman and Bass?
I get it, 7 is hit or miss. Some people hate it. I haven't beaten Mega Man and Bass. I played it on the gba in middle school (which I know is the worse version), but I couldn't beat it. I might go back and play it at some point, but I think I'm going to start reviewing the x series next.
Yeah, I had a lot of fun with 7. I actually haven't reviewed Mega Man and Bass yet. The only version I've played is the GBA version. Hopefully it gets a rerelease soon.
Mah boi 8 at the very bottom lol! But great list! Seriously 9 was just peak design for everything classic Megaman! Need to dig up my Wii/U to play it now. I actually want to know your thoughts on X series along with Rockman & Forte now.
I know, it hurts to put 8 at the bottom. Personally, I love the vibe of the game, but I have the least fun actually playing it. I'm planning on starting X soon. I'm not sure when I'll do Rockman & Forte.
As for the NES and non "X" games 3 was always my absolute favorite. I love 2, don't get me wrong, but 3 was like a hige level uo from the first two iterations and the soundtrack is amazing as well.
It’s so interesting that our lists basically swap the placements of 4 and 5 as our least and most favorite NES titles! I appreciate 5’s lax difficulty as a buster-only guy, really feels like the game was designed for my play style. 4 seemed more like a bland stop-gap in between the distinct styles of the classic trilogy and the 5+6 duology. Just goes to show how much this series has to offer - people will experience the same games but value them basically completely differently. Since you seem to appreciate a good challenge, I’d be curious to know where you’d rank Mega Man and Bass, if you’ve played it. The SNES version is in my top 4. Somehow the way it handles difficulty is so much more enjoyable than 9’s steep learning curves lol
Nice to see 4 love...I really loved that one. Not sure 2 should be so low, though. I've played them all except 1 and 11, but I'll be playing 11 at least when it comes up in my backlog. Great video!
I would recommend at least the first Mega Man game. It is not one of the best games of the series, but it is definitely worth playing. Although I would recommending going in weakness order starting with Cut Man, you don't even need to look it up, it is mostly self explanatory. And although I haven't played MM11, I would probably play that first, as it is very likely a better game
@@thomasffrench3639 I will add MM1 to my backlog along with MM11 and X5. I have the PS2 collection and think I have the PS4 collection so I at least have a legal way to play 😀
@@MBeezy815 Totally. Although if you are playing on OG NES hardware, I don't know if it would be worth the inflated price (if it is inflated at all, I don't have old consoles), but with the collections, it is a must play.
I have scores for each game in my reviews, and I don't remember them off the top of my head, but he's what I would give them now: mm1, 7.9/10 mm2, 8.5/10 mm3, 9.1/10 mm4, 10/10 mm5, 8.1/10 mm6, 8.5/10 mm7, 9.0/10 mm8, 7.9/10 mm9. 10/10 mm10, 8.9/10 (this one has grown on me) mm11, 9.2/10 I've only played Mega Man and Bass on GBA, and I didn't beat it, so I didn't include it on the list.
For the first 5 min its off-putting from megaman being so big but once you get used to it works and its the best one on the list. I remember some awesome boss fights the ice guy was the best
You need to play &Bass and Rockman World V for the gameboy. &Bass is truly a part of the series and V is very worth it. I really only strongly disagree with 7's placement, but I get why people love it, the exploration thing is a nice aspect of it. I think it's probably the worst, but I can accept 8 as the worst one. I'm not as high on 11 as others but I think that one deserves to be higher on the list, but I probably wouldn't put it ahead of even mm5. 10 is really good I think it might be better than 4. 2 and 6 and 10 vs 4 are the ones I struggle with a bit more, but... 7
Interesting. Why do you dislike 7 so much? What's shocking to me is how much other people love 9. I thought I was making a controversial pick for the top spot.
@@MeguhFan I think I covered most of it in your review, but I hate how it looks, sounds, feels and plays for the most part, the boss fights with the weapon just becomes an s waiting game of waiting and boredom, I don't like the Intro stage at all, not really into Bass that much. Time comparison, Mega Man X crushes this game super hard like by a full letter grade at minimum, where as I wouldn't put Mega Man 5 a full letter behind mmx. 9 is just obviously the best. They wanted it to be the best.
Definetly don’t agree with 8. It’s actually a really nice game. Fantastic graphics and music. I do however agree that some of the gliding stages are frustrating
Here is my list, but like what you said. I love all titles in the series, though my list is obviously vastly different from yours. 11) Mega Man 10 10) Mega Man 7 9) Mega Man 1 8) Mega Man 6 7) Mega Man 5 6) Mega Man 4 5) Mega Man 9 4) Mega Man 11 3) Mega Man 2 2) Mega Man 3 1) Mega Man 8
Ironically, Mega Man 5 felt like one of my favorite games in the classic series because his megabuster made him feel like he's come a long way with his power levels. I also liked how unique some of the boss weapons were.
This may be an odd comment, but I remembered there was one guy who had a Megaman Classic Ranked and then Later had a Megaman X ranked as well but those videos were removed. Out of curiosity I was trying my best to find out what has happened to him. The only thing I remembered of is that his X ranking went like this (X1,X4,X3,X8,X2,X7,X5,X6) but that's about it lol. Anyone could guess who that guy was? I know I don't have much to work with.
I love 4. It was actually my first Mega Man I played when I rented it after it came out. I love its soundtrack. The Cossack and Wily fortresses actually give you a reason to make use of your weapons. The weapons can actually be pretty useful. Also glad 11 turned out as good as it did, even with the Wiley fortress being a little lackluster from previous games. Weapons are useful and the Double Gear system is useful. Visually looks good and Mega Man has a better voice actor this time with Ben Diskin.
Not just bad. They strip MM of his powers which make no sense. The bosses are teribble even though it got some good tunes. But other than that, man to hard game for me for it to be fun and I’ve beat them all.
Fun Fact- In Mega Man 7 if you hit Freeze Man with his own weapon during the 2nd fight with him, it won’t affect him and he’ll break the fourth wall while giving you a “WTF, Really?” look.
I actually agree with most of your list. Especially putting MM9 as number 1. I took for granted how good it was to play MM9 until i went back and tried to play the older mega man games and then realized how much worse they were. The one thing i will say about mega man 10 is that the game did feel like i should never play as mega man and only play as proto man or maybe bass. If mega man 10 forced you to play as protoman first, i would have considered MM10 almost being as good as MM9 or at least considering it one of the top 4 mega man games.
Haha yea i played some of the ps1 x games before and I was like wtf is this flowery sht, game was really short too but the main level select screen music best thing ever made
@@tonyt3955555 they totally Lost their touch when they had better graphics and more memory. Mega Man 11 was a bit of the same problem, too much visual adjustment. The proper blueprint for modernizing old games in this way is what Inti Creates did with Blaster Master Zero. Or what the guy did on Zelda Again: Link is Adventuresome.
Totally agree with 4, which is my all time favorote one amd not just from pure nostalgia. To me it symbolizes the most balanced, nuanced greatness and ideal MM experience. 9 and 11 are up there for me as well. And i love 7's style and intro stsge but was overall "mid" of the high tier action platformer series. Also I liked 6 a lot more than you did with the Rush Suits and hidden secrets and multiple passages.
Ah, man, ya missed Mega Man & Bass for Super Famicom/Super Nintendo. Nonetheless, great list, I even loved your reasons for what placed each game in their spot. Now, if it was time for me to show my rankings, it would be this way: 12. Mega Man 1 11. Mega Man 10 10. Mega Man 5 9. Mega Man 2 8. Mega Man 6 7. Mega Man 3 6. Mega Man 8 5. Mega Man 11 4. Mega Man 9 3. Mega Man & Bass 2. Mega Man 4 1. Mega Man 7
This is a really good list. I especially love the top 3 picks. The only think I really disagree with in a big way is that I think 5 is better than you give it credit for. Yeah, it doesn’t bring a lot of new things to the table, and yeah the robot master weapons are terrible, and yeah the difficulty is really easy. But, I think it’s a very polished and refined mega man experience that is a lot of fun. Plus it gives the perfect starting point for newcomers and a game that veterans can just cruise through if they just want a nice and easy time. Plus the soundtrack is really good. Awesome list tho.
I personally would probably put Mega Man 6 a bit higher from below Mega Man 1, but otherwise this was a great list and I agree with a lot of the stuff you talked about! Mega Man is just fire yo 🔥

I never thought mm2 is as great as people say. IMO, the original 6 go in this order, best to worst:
4,3,6,5,2,1
@@zalden2565good man! 3 is second!
2 is pretty weak to be fair, but he has the BALLS to put it so low considering is, alongside 3, everyone favorite
And I respect him for that
Mega Man 2 is very overrated honestly, though its dying off in recent years, as people come to realize the later NES games were much better than MM2 (specially MM4)
Finally seeing 3, 4 and 7 actually get recognized as *great* titles lifts my soul
I’m still waiting for the day that someone praises 8 & calls it a great game
@@Orangatang1998 most people are hestitant due to the abundance of gimmicks, the first time I played 8 I actually quite liked Frost Man's sled segments including Tengu Man
@@Orangatang1998 That day has come, because for me this was always one of my favorite Mega Man games. I loved all the gimmicks, and the game has quite possibly my favorite set of Robot Masters. Their voices as well as their dialogue gave them so much personality, and were enjoyably hammy unlike the dub for the cutscenes.
@@PotatoeSnow some weapons outright give bosses power, such as using Thunder Bolt to Spring Man and Turbo Man

Love to hear 9 & 4 at the top spots 🫡
Thanks! Yeah, I wish 9 & 4 got more love. I think if more people played them they would be more popular.
My two favorites u til 11 came out. Very difficult to choose
If anything I played Megaman 10 more when I was a kid and when I replayed it after 9, I found myself liking 9 more
love to see top comments spoil the ranking video
Mega Man is such a good series to be a fan of, so many games to play and (especially later on during the GBA era) so many different genres like RPGs. Great work keep it up you.
Yeah, it's good to be a mega man fan! Thanks for the nice comment!
They're still at it. Look up gunvolt for a very similar experience to MegaMan zero games. Dragon marked for death if you want ye olde MegaMan in medival ages
Mega Man 3's soundtrack is one of the best in gaming history
I couldn’t agree more!
Yes. Magnet Man is just wow.
Agreed
@@TimewornUncle I feel like Magnet Man could have been an 80s hit in the pop culture world.
You are correct.
Mega Man 5 is my all-time favorite ♥
Me too
That soundtrack is insanely good.
Mega Man 5 is completely underrated and overshadowed. It is the best out of the NES games in my opinion. I had a desire to play through the game twice today. That's how you know a game is that good. :)
same best boss theme of the nes hexology
@@Crim-kun I agree on that, but Mega Man 4 has the best final boss theme imo.
Mega Man 9 is my favourite as well. There were a few enemy placements that were questionable, but I have found them hilarious (like that flying robot that pulls you right into the spikes just when you are about to use the ladder etc).
Yay! I'm glad someone else likes mm9 as much as me. Yeah, the ragey enemies are funny in mm9.
I am making my way through #3 via the legacy collection. I've enjoyed each one so far and I think #1 might be my favourite. Thanks for the video.
Nice! You'll have a lot of fun!
Mega Man 8 is probably my favorite, I'm in for a wild ride with this list.
Mine as well. The music is incredible, it looks great and is super fun.
I get it. It has one of the best presentations of all time, but from a gameplay standpoint, I just can't go there.
Its true you guys can say Mega Man 8 is not the best Mega Man from a gameplay point, but WORSE than MEGA MAN 1!?? That’s just too harsh, man.
I unironically like Mega Man 1 more than 2. It specially feels a bit better designed, but, it is a bit rough with its jank.
I just bought the anniversary collection and was confused about 9 and 10 being 8-bit but I've grown to like it quite a bit. Great video!
I need to get the switch classic collection as well. I have it on the 2DS.
MMX is the best
I promise to never understand all the hate 5 gets lately. My third-fave.
5 is so bad id consider it the only bad Megaman game on the list.
i always felt 5 goes all downhill after you beat the robot masters
iv played every single mega man game starting as a kid who was born in the 80's, megaman 11 has to #1 no question IMO
@@CR250rSMITH 11 is highly likely mines too
i never noticed the good points you made about mm4 being so balanced. now that you made me think about it.
I actually agree with almost every aspect of your ranking. Even the controversial mm2 opinion :)
Trying to get my good friend on xbox into mega man, i gifted him the collection and had no idea of telling him where to start. I just told him to start with 2 lol
I'd recommend 5, but 2 is a pretty good place to start too.
Came here to see where 9 ranked. It’s in the right spot, and that’s all that matters! But also, fun list to see with all the others!
Thanks! I'm glad to see another Mega Man 9 fan!
Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I need to figure out better ways to edit.
New to your channel, great video and fantastic list. Your rankings are about the same as mine. More people should give 4 another shot. I know 2 is a fan favorite, but 4 is so great and improves on everything from 2&3.
Nice list (mega) man! ^_-
I really liked this video it was fun short concise and entertaining. Cheers
Great video!
ok putting Megaman 1 over 6, I understand
but putting 4 over 2? you're just bullshitting now
4 and 9 are my two favourites but i would have had 4 at number 1 spot for nostalgia reasons 😄
Yeah, 4 and 9 are excellent. I actually have more nostalgia for 9, so maybe that's why I put it at the top.

Pretty interesting list, would it set in a different order, but I appreciate your different point of view😃
Great video! Subscribed
Hey! Thanks! I appreciate it!
Megaman 2, 3, 4 and 7 are my favorites. Never tried Megaman 10 and 11. I played Megaman X after them.
Those are some great ones! I recommend both 10 and 11.
Great video, but I'd have loved if you added MM&Bass in the list. I'd place it between 4 and 3
But where would you put Rockman Forte? 🤔
1:11 hes going with his GUTS, MAN!!!
The Doc Robot stages alone put 3 in the bottom 5.
I get it, but I feel like the other good qualities still elevate the game.
Thanks! I'm happy to find another 4, 9, and 11 fan!
I get why some people feel that way about 3. I love Protoman, so 3 gets a boost from me.
Thanks for your review! It was very fair, and I'm so happy someone gave Mega Man 7 some much-needed love.
I never got the hate for 7 until yrs later with every pretentious “real gamer” on the internet. I love 7.
@gjergjaurelius9798 true. It is an underrated, overhated classic. Even if I can't beat turbo man's level, lol.

Mega Man 2 is my favorite, but it is definitely worth checking past Mega man 3. They are mostly excellent games.
I always liked 6
Megaman 4 is my absolute favorite!!!!
Great game!
Ooh, that's a lot of games, but I'm sure it'd be an interesting list!
4 has always been my favorite
I loved 3 for the fact you fight all the bosses from Mega Man 2 on it as well. It's fun seeing what each bosses weakness is and what pings off of them.
Do a video like this for the X series!
I'm with you, bro. 7 is the only one in the classic series that I actually think sucks overall.
Im coming to your house
Glad to see 7 so far up. A bit surprised not to see & Bass included, as it’s technically Megaman 7.5
Yeah, I had a lot of fun with 7. I actually haven't reviewed Mega Man and Bass yet. The only version I've played is the GBA version. Hopefully it gets a rerelease soon.
Technically 8.5.

@@MeguhFan Sweet! Lookin' forward for your thoughts on the X series!
honorable mention to megaman and bass. also hard agree with these placements, this video was so fun
What would be your scores? Also where is Mega Man & Bass?
I have scores for each game in my reviews, and I don't remember them off the top of my head, but he's what I would give them now:

mm8, 7.9/10
mm9. 10/10
mm10, 8.9/10 (this one has grown on me)
mm11, 9.2/10

It's nice to see someone put Mega Man 2 in its place. It's also nice to see Mega Man 4 get more respect. Great video!

Interesting. Why do you dislike 7 so much?
What's shocking to me is how much other people love 9. I thought I was making a controversial pick for the top spot.

Got megaman 4 as a kid and is what made me obsessed with megaman till today
You list is pretty good!!
WITH THE EXCEPTION OF!! You know 😂😂😂
Change Megaman II for Megaman IV and then that would be pretty much my list too!
Ironically, Mega Man 5 felt like one of my favorite games in the classic series because his megabuster made him feel like he's come a long way with his power levels. I also liked how unique some of the boss weapons were.
As you are done with the classic series, do you have plans for other Mega Man series/spin-offs?
Long term, my plan is to review the X series. Short term, I might review the Power Fighter arcade games.
Lol, Megaman 8 is my all time favorite
6 always been my favorite, felt like it could've been a definitive finish after a worldwide trek and finally bagging wily for prison
Me: oh this could be interesting
*sees my favorite at the bottom of the list*
Me: welp!
Huh, no, I don't think I ever saw that channel. Maybe whoever made it completely deleted all their videos and changed their name of the channel.
my favorite classic mega man game is mega man 10
it's casual and its casuality makes it more fun because you don't just die and get stuck
I get it. Mega Man 10 has a lot going for it.
Preach. I agree 100% with the list.
Thanks!
Wasn't expecting to see 4 so high.
Mega Man 4 is better than all series.
Its crazy how we are differente but i respect it a lot ,for me i put Megaman 7 and 9 at last i hate 9 because how hard it is !!!
Not just bad. They strip MM of his powers which make no sense. The bosses are teribble even though it got some good tunes. But other than that, man to hard game for me for it to be fun and I’ve beat them all.
@@Yo-Ah-Kim same for me ,7 is not a bad game it just dont feel right to me 😅
I didn't get to finish this yesterday, so I'll finish it today.
Mega Man 8 for the Playstation. Played it religiously. The sprite work, colors, and animations were amazing.
3 for me is number one. I was 9 and I saw some images of it in an specialized magazine. Love at first sight.
I think the best is MegaMan 8
Fun Fact- In Mega Man 7 if you hit Freeze Man with his own weapon during the 2nd fight with him, it won’t affect him and he’ll break the fourth wall while giving you a “WTF, Really?” look.
I enjoyed Megaman 11 it was real fun in my opinion
Yeah, and it sold well, so hopefully Capcom makes 12 some day soon.
@@MeguhFan I agree
I actually agree with most of your list. Especially putting MM9 as number 1. I took for granted how good it was to play MM9 until i went back and tried to play the older mega man games and then realized how much worse they were. The one thing i will say about mega man 10 is that the game did feel like i should never play as mega man and only play as proto man or maybe bass.
If mega man 10 forced you to play as protoman first, i would have considered MM10 almost being as good as MM9 or at least considering it one of the top 4 mega man games.
I remember the 1st time I played Mega Man 8 on PSX in college. I felt legitimately betrayed at how immediately bad it was.
@@SeveredLegs yea agreed i really liked the X series games though especially x and x4
Not me who played 8 first and still think it's by far the best out of the 2d series.
Now, if it was time for me to show my rankings, it would be this way:
12. Mega Man 1
11. Mega Man 10
10. Mega Man 5
9. Mega Man 2
8. Mega Man 6
7. Mega Man 3
6. Mega Man 8
5. Mega Man 11
4. Mega Man 9
3. Mega Man & Bass
2. Mega Man 4
1. Mega Man 7
Great video 🔥
This is a really good list. I especially love the top 3 picks. The only think I really disagree with in a big way is that I think 5 is better than you give it credit for. Yeah, it doesn’t bring a lot of new things to the table, and yeah the robot master weapons are terrible, and yeah the difficulty is really easy. But, I think it’s a very polished and refined mega man experience that is a lot of fun. Plus it gives the perfect starting point for newcomers and a game that veterans can just cruise through if they just want a nice and easy time. Plus the soundtrack is really good. Awesome list tho.
I think the music at the start already tells you which one is the best
I personally would probably put Mega Man 6 a bit higher from below Mega Man 1, but otherwise this was a great list and I agree with a lot of the stuff you talked about! Mega Man is just fire yo 🔥
