I only ever did that like a few times throughout my entire playtime. If anything, this could be looked at as a hindrance seeing as learning patterns is the name of the game. If you damage boost through everything, it puts you at a big disadvantage for the boss fight at least on your first try (unless there's a good place to farm healing items) and then that tactic doesn't work during the bossfights without sacrificing tons of health. Powered Up is rad and absolutely deserves more love for all the reasons you described. I also recommend checking out the Legacy Collections again and using the tools it gives you (save states, rewind, checkpoints, etc.) to try 1-11 again, you may be surprised at how much you enjoy the games. The Mega Man community is here to help. :)
As someone who, I guess people wouldn't exactly call a "casual gamer," I think there's nothing wrong with feeling the way you feel about the actual Classic games. Different strokes will float our boats. Also I actually agree with you on Elec Man. There are ways to make bosses harder without requiring artificial difficulty. Thankfully with some bosses (like at least TO ME, Needle Man from Mega Man 3 for example), they did figure this out sometimes... and then sometimes NOT (for example, Shadow Man from Mega Man 3 to me).
i liked and shared this in my discord. i know how it is for you to do videos outside of the realm of sonic so i hope me and a few of my friends watching helps
Garrulous64's 3-step plan on how to break Sonic's heart Step 1: Establish yourself as a Sonic content creator Step 2: Get recognized by Sega and get featured in a video on Sonic's official UA-cam channel Step 3: Inmediately make a video about Mega Man and throw shade on Sonic's Boom outfit (Jokes aside, great video as always! Powered Up is one of the few PSP games I still need to play someday. And also congrats on getting featured in the Happy 30th Birthday Sonic video!)
Let me note that, in the fangame community (and by that, I mostly mean MaGMML and 8BDM), Powered Up is considered the true Mega Man 1, and the NES version is non-canon. And in Mega Man Maker, it's just there, mixed in with the numbered entries.
Personally I enjoy both Mega Man 1 and Powered Up. I can absolutely understand why some people may not enjoy the first one, it's a little rough around the edges. It is certainly one of the more challenging entries in the classic series, but as with the other classic games, a lot of the difficulty can be overcome by just stopping to observe. Classic Mega Man is largely about learning how things work and applying that knowledge. For example, Fire Man is seen as one of the more challenging bosses in the game, but once you figure out how he works, he's not especially difficult to take out. He only shoots at you when either A. you're more than half screen length from him or B. you shoot at him, and once you figure that out, avoiding his attacks becomes much easier because you can control when he shoots at you. Things like that are what I enjoy about classic Mega Man, but it does require a degree of patience, and I recognize that not everyone is going to enjoy that. I do hope you give these games another try someday, they can be really fun to play through once you figure them out, and conquering them for the first time is incredibly satisfying. That said, I get it if you don't end up doing that. Classic Mega Man can be tough, and it's not everyone's cup of tea. No sense playing a game if you don't have fun with it.
Powered Up and Maverick Hunter X were originally reboots of the whole series that were basically the last chances for those 2 series, They sold poorly, They were planning on making reboots for 2-8 and X2-X8, Powered Up and MHX explicitly were made instead of their respective 9 and X9
For those misinformed by this video. You CAN get roll, several of her costumes and protoman officially in the game. If you go to the download section of the game and go the page for the dlc. Just scroll down and grab them. Capcom throughout the games life were doing event releases or something and while roll was essentially given for fun, protoman was given away in response to them ending the service. You can also unlock him legitimately.....but....you have to beat challenge mode for that......screw that
QOTD: I know it's late but, Mega Man 11 is the only game I've experienced, and I've only watched longplays of Powered Up, but I think Powered Up takes the cake for me. The addition of Oil Man and Time Man have just been, pog. And now those two are like, genuinely canon Robot Masters, at least thats what the Worlds Collide comics from the Sonic & Mega Man crossover taught me.
Yo! This was my first EVER Mega Man game I've played and I INSTANTLY fell in love with it! Heck, I loved it so much that I bought the sequel to it, Mega Man Maverick Hunter X, and I loved it too! The characters, the music, the gameplay, the set pieces, and especially the voice acting in the English version - as all of the voices totally fit the characters and the direction was top-notch, helping make these characters even more memorable! Plus, some of the voice actors like Roger Rhodes and Dean Galloway would stick around in Maverick Hunter X! All in all, these two games are underrated gems and I would love if you talked about Maverick Hunter X!
Battle Network was my intro to Mega Man too, specifically the NT Warrior anime. Starforce on the other hand, that was my JAM! Though I still haven't beaten SF3
9, 10, the classic and x anniversary collections on the ps2, and zx were the first ones I played and I think zx was the first one I ever beat without using passwords
If you like Powered Up, then I HEAVILY suggest you try Mega Man 11. It's difficult like the other main games, but the addition of the Double Gears, make it a much more balanced affair than its NES bretheren, and it takes a few cues from Powered Up in the presentation department what with being 2.5D so, it might be your speed(also, Mega Man 7, the SNES one, is the easiest game in the OG series so maybe try that too if you can)
That "something" light did was underestimate Wily's double gear system and refusing to put it in protoman even though it could have fixed his bad energy output
12:58 Honestly I'm surprised IDW hasn't licensed out Mega Man to make comics with like they have with Sonic. I've heard the IDW Sonic comics are pretty good, so it'd be nice if there was also some IDW Mega Man comics (and then maybe they could have another Sonic/Mega Man crossover comic like they did when both franchises were being licensed by Archie).
The Mega Man series is one of favorite series. I love them all. Probably Battle Network and Stardorce at the top, Zero series second, x series 3rd and Classic 4th. I've played legends 1 as well but I haven't thought about how it fits for me but I still love that game too. Enjoyed the video. Also what was that second Battle Network spinoff? I've played Network Transmission but not the other.

It helps a lot, thank you!
7:04 Iceman freezes things, he dosen't start fires, that's fireman.
You are why I played the star force games, thanks for that :)
0:53 Mega man 11 because it was the first Mega Man game that I ever played all my knowledge of Megaman before that was from smash bros
Garrulous64's 3-step plan on how to break Sonic's heart
Step 1: Establish yourself as a Sonic content creator
Step 2: Get recognized by Sega and get featured in a video on Sonic's official UA-cam channel
Step 3: Inmediately make a video about Mega Man and throw shade on Sonic's Boom outfit
(Jokes aside, great video as always! Powered Up is one of the few PSP games I still need to play someday.
And also congrats on getting featured in the Happy 30th Birthday Sonic video!)
I had to make something different this week lmao. I can't take just Sonic anymore
Rats I though it was going to be masterpiece that is Mega Man Soccer
I have the same exact sentiment with Megaman 😅 Long live Battlenetwork and Starforce!
10:53
You can't just disrespect the drip like that!
I love Starforce and BN so much. I've played at least one version of every game. I hope that one day they either port or remaster them.
Me too 🙏
Let me note that, in the fangame community (and by that, I mostly mean MaGMML and 8BDM), Powered Up is considered the true Mega Man 1, and the NES version is non-canon.
And in Mega Man Maker, it's just there, mixed in with the numbered entries.
You said ice man starts fires how?
0:27 BURN BURN BURN TO THE GROOOUUND!!!
Oh heck a Garrulous Megaman video.
7:08 "Start fire" *inserts Ice Man*
Bro, i love this game. Its one of my favorite megaman games of all time. Better than the original. And i loved oil slick and level creator
5:00 Megaman Y that's hilarious lmfao
10:35 wait, isn't copy robot in the original too? as the second boss of wily's fortress or are the clone and duplicate megamen separate beings?
Separate, I believe. They fight the same I think but technically it's a different boss. The clone doesn't have the same aesthetics as Copy Robot.
Just seeing the vid on my sub feed told me all I needed to know. I knew that it would be MegaMan Powered Up
Powered Up and Maverick Hunter X were originally reboots of the whole series that were basically the last chances for those 2 series, They sold poorly, They were planning on making reboots for 2-8 and X2-X8, Powered Up and MHX explicitly were made instead of their respective 9 and X9
3:25 oh heck yeah, I love clement, good stuff
6:34 I didn't expect that sound effect💀
7:05 "starts fires" (shows Ice Man)
One of these is not like the other...
12:10 that’s where Time Man comes in
My favorite was Megaman ZX. It was also the first official game I've ever played.
9, 10, the classic and x anniversary collections on the ps2, and zx were the first ones I played and I think zx was the first one I ever beat without using passwords
I knew the exact game by the name I’ve always wanted to play powered up
I've only ever played 2 Mega Man games: Mega Man 11, and Mega Man X. I haven't beaten X yet, but I definitely enjoy X far more than 11 so far.
megaman 11 is good, but x is indeed way better.
This was a great review! I'd love to see more mega man reviews from you
Hopefully that's what'll happen!
PLEASE MORE MEGAMAN VIDEOS I LOVE THAT SERIES
If you like Powered Up, then I HEAVILY suggest you try Mega Man 11. It's difficult like the other main games, but the addition of the Double Gears, make it a much more balanced affair than its NES bretheren, and it takes a few cues from Powered Up in the presentation department what with being 2.5D so, it might be your speed(also, Mega Man 7, the SNES one, is the easiest game in the OG series so maybe try that too if you can)
I haven't played MM7 before but i'll look into it! I actually did play MM11 on Easy mode and I thought it was alright.
That "something" light did was underestimate Wily's double gear system and refusing to put it in protoman even though it could have fixed his bad energy output
Is anyone gonna talk about the banger that is the boss music?
Still waiting for the Sonic advance 3 review
Y e s
He already made that.
Where is your shirt from it looks so good
I wish there was more lets plays of this game, with more characters than just mega/rock, roll, and proto
That thumbnail is breaking the first law of robotics, uh oh
The Mega Man series is one of favorite series. I love them all. Probably Battle Network and Stardorce at the top, Zero series second, x series 3rd and Classic 4th. I've played legends 1 as well but I haven't thought about how it fits for me but I still love that game too. Enjoyed the video. Also what was that second Battle Network spinoff? I've played Network Transmission but not the other.
Mega Man Battle Network for the Wonder Swan. It's a lot like Network Transmission.
