All those airbags. I remember when I was in a front end collision that totaled the car, the seat belt held me back from even touching the airbag. If only there was some sort of sensor that could determine where the driver seat is located, and how extended the seat belt is. If the driver is tall and far from the wheel, and the seat belt is good and tight, there's no need to fire off a $1000 bag.

The famous P0008 and P0017, chains, guides, tenaioners, and vvt solenoids, 3-5-R waveplate failure in the transmissions, hub bearings, abs sensors, no crank - no starts due to failed theft deterrent modules, the list just goes on. My wife wanted one of these in the worst way. I told her the only way I'd get one is if it was a lease, that way we could unload it in 3 years before it comes a repair headache. We leased a 17' Traverse and got out of it last November. Only problem was a no crank no start due to a failed theft module. Had 35,000 miles on it when we turned it in, but by 27K miles, it sure had that great timing chain rattle on start-up. Lol. Awesome diag Ivan. Keep up the great work!
Ivan, great video. Wow that battery was so spanked!!! We learned something that seats aren't interchangeable. Some are, some don't. It just depends on model year you buy. Interesting diagnosis
While you have it there looking at it check for water intrusion at both the a pillar‘s. Up behind the dash water will be dripping into the fuse box on one side in the amplifier on the other. Also check all the connectors for the door harnesses. These connectors plugged into The a pillars and b pillars
hi ivan...the walmart batteries are made by exide ac delco too! there were so many batteries that went down in a year at chevy... and gm says below 50 ma draw is ok some cars take 45 min. to power down
That Acadia likely had the side impact airbag connector recall. Basically was to cut out the connector and solder the wires together, they even recalled that recall when some techs would hack them together..Doing this repair made seat removal in the future a pain obviously
If you are a little worried about losing contact as you are removing the neg battery cable, you can also use a battery jump pack for your testing. You put the jump pack in parallel with the car battery-- but, instead of clipping the negative side of the jump pack straight to the negative battery cable, connect your amp meter in between those two points. Then you can pull the negative battery clamp off of the car battery... At that point the car is being powered by your jump pack through your amp meter. When finished testing, just reconnect the negative clamp to the car battery prior to removing the jump pack (this way you never lose power to your computer modules).
Have an Enclave which shares Lambda platform w Acadia during these years. GM had problems w airbag connector corrosion. The factory recall fix was to remove connector below seat and solder the wires. So, who is the real hacker here?

The cut wires for the air bag was a recall, to eliminate connectors and solider the wires together. That recall opened a can of worms because some techs weren't doing it correctly, they were literally twisting wires together and taping them up. Needless to say everyone came back and GM investigated and had to re-recall all vehicles that were fixed at those dealerships. They also told us not to use electric soldiering irons because it could induce voltage in the circuit and blow the air bag off. I think if you were to switch all air bag components from the original seats to the new ones he had installed it would have worked, but at what labor cost? I don't think all of the features would have worked because i thought the power seats had a memory seat module as well.
@@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics switch the foam to the new seat frame. once everything is all said and done re-zero the seat and should be good to go. I've had to replace the sensor, and or heated seat element.
When people do stupid stuff like the seat swap and then want you or someone like you to fix everything I think you should just politely decline to work on it. That is a Frankenmobile. Run!
Huge liability and no amount of papers signed will ever protect you from the liability. Modification of any safety system is a big no no. A true professional would never touch something that has been hacked up like that.
Wow!! Am I out of touch. The battery is in the floor?? Just like the old VW's!!! (My sister burnt her's to the ground when a friend sat on the seat and shorted it out. My Dad just shook his head). WTH? No mo room?
You could've removed the upholstery from New and old seats. And transferred the "pad" and the sensing module to the nicer seats. It's basically a load cell and a control module ... just move them from the ugly seats to the nice seats. Think of it as same job as if you had a failed pad and module... you would pull upholstery and replace.
That's the thing I hate most about modern cars. The stuff we used to do all the time back in the day, like swapping seats for more comfy ones, can't be done without a magic box wigging out over it. Never thought I'd see the day seats would be monitored by a computer!! I never even owned a vehicle that had airbags until 2007. That was a pile of ghost codes there! Low voltage does all kinds of crazy things in modern vehicles. My "favorite" is GM vehicles capturing the key when the battery dies, so you can't remove it. 😵
Not sure what that owner was thinking - you'd think he would have rethought his plan at the point he figured out the connectors didn't match, rather than hacking up the wiring and still ending up with something that didn't work. Should have done their research beforehand rather than assuming a totally different model year's seats would just work. Not to mention they were totally the wrong color and looked really stupid in that car.
Does this vehicle have an oxygen sensor heater relearn procedure. I've had several GM vehicles with multiple heater circuit codes and doing the relearn fixes the problem. Kind of like the phantom codes you get when the crank learn has to be redone.
@@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics i was using my powerprobe the wire tested 12.3 volts but tested with test light light did not light im assuming voltage wasn't carrying current if light wldnt light
Ivan, pls read the instructions. With inductive camp meter in closed position, push it next the wire, reset the meter and then open the clamp and do the measurement. Not like 5 inches away pointing the other way. Jus like you would clamp the wire, but just next the wire in the position you will clamp the wire, do the reset and then clamp the wire. 10-200 mA difference.
@@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics That is excellent, but when using clamp meter you get 10-50x accuracy by resetting the clamp next to wire compared to 90 degree angle and 5 in away. I might sound a bit picky, but I'm an engineer and Hall effect sensors (capable of doing DC) are sensitive to environment especially in DC mode. This matters when you are looking for small currents. My UNI-T UT210E Clamp (same as Bigclive uses) is not as fancy as your Fluke but the difference on measurement is above 200mA easily. Would use in line meter too with this analysis.
@@petar443 No problem at all. Only thing is that UT210 has AC as default, so you need to push one time to change from AC to DC when taking a measurements on DC. Very good value for money.,
The ads for all those obd2 scanner apps really frustrate me because they act like getting a code is the same thing as diagnosing a vehicle. Sorry had to vent. lmao
The draw on these vehicles is for one reason! Make dealers money! 100 years of cars! Turn them off never a draw! So why now! They could do like computers with a CMOS battery but why not burn to a chip that needs no outside battery! Fans radio lights and all the b.s. running after you turn it off???? Why! Not needed! Test people IQ under 100, can't drive period! Then you don't need idiot lights and other crap! Town and country flashes lights when door open! Why not a speaker yelling hey idiot the door is open! Enough said
it's easy to miss idiot lights and gauges trust me, I've nearly killed some vehicles myself over the years, but of course my "nose" is tuned to things going amok and alerted me well beforehand lol. but the point is I didn't notice the gauge/s and the idiot lights mean pull over instantly, because you done broke it ;)
Maybe they had something plugged into their power ports all the time (like some chinese junk device or chinese junk usb cable), or have a habit of leaving the interior lights.
Awfully exited by experimenting with airbag wires without first replacing the bags with 2,2 Ohm 0,25/0,5W resistors. I'd rather fry the $0,02 resistor than blow up the bag and the seat...
He's not a rapper mobile disco sort of dude! You know sitting with engine off in some car park, boom, boom, boom disco mode annoying the locals. Especially at night i've seen these guys sitting with their headlights on. That can kill a battery in the long term. Just saying Ivan.
Make them sign their right to sue you away before doing anything, a simple liability release is not enough. I also take pictures of the swapped seats, the messed up wiring, and anything else that could fail in the event of a crash. It wouldn't hurt to have an admission from the customer detailing what he did, and again stating no suit can be filed. I would also consider having it notarized. When they screw it up, make sure that fact is documented, as they might not be the one trying to sue, it may be the family or other kin folk.
The moral of the story is "dont mess about with the original design " There's too many variables involved and backward compatibility is very seldom guaranteed. If more accessories are needed, upgrade to a better or newer model. When installing a new battery, make sure the battery is fully charged or else the alternator may see a quick exit. The reason for a fast failed battery is unusual. Perhaps the car was left unused for long periods where the battery voltage was left to decline down to single figures without recharging. If so, the battery should have been disconnected and trickled charged over the waiting period. Only deep cycle batteries are allowed to fall to single figures without serious consequences.
I know income is income and you're very good at this. But I'd be tired of some of the junk that shows up. And the people that "fix" them before you get them.
Here's a good one for you, I have a customer with a 2005 350z convertible and he's a Steelers fan, his name is Joe Greene, the car is emblazoned with huge Steelers stickers it is silver with yellow wheels and a blue top, got the picture? Now the fun bit, he's 64 years old and legally blind meaning he can't drive, he read on the internet, he can see a computer screen, that you can make any car self driving and asked me to look into it, this is a 2005 vehicle, I told him that even if the technology was there the cost would be astronomical, I said your best bet would be to buy a tesla and make that into a new Steelers mobile at least they have some sort of self driving capabilities although I would never trust it personally, but it goes to show you the kinds of insane ways some people think they can change a modern vehicle, can it be done probably if money is no object, if this guy wants powersests then purchase one with them and stop playing pin the tail on the donkey when you can get one with a tail already attached.

Have you programmed a key with your Launch yet..if so..did it go smoothly? thnx
Our channel posted some key coding video
Awesome 👍 job
When people do stupid stuff like the seat swap and then want you or someone like you to fix everything I think you should just politely decline to work on it. That is a Frankenmobile. Run!
Huge liability and no amount of papers signed will ever protect you from the liability. Modification of any safety system is a big no no. A true professional would never touch something that has been hacked up like that.
I couldn’t imagine if I were the vehicle owner and happened to read the comments although I’ve done plenty of stupid things in my life.
Would've been easier to put his Sqabs & Cushions(&Pre-tensioners if need be) onto the Electric Bases 😏
Does this vehicle have an oxygen sensor heater relearn procedure. I've had several GM vehicles with multiple heater circuit codes and doing the relearn fixes the problem. Kind of like the phantom codes you get when the crank learn has to be redone.
very interesting
Is the kawasaki Vulcan for sale
I'm sure it would be for the right price! It was just here for a back-on-the-road full service :)
Eh close enough. I use the in series meter for draws under 1 Mp 🙂
@@jannepo Hey Jenne , is this UT210E good for automotive use ? The price looks good.
@@petar443 No problem at all. Only thing is that UT210 has AC as default, so you need to push one time to change from AC to DC when taking a measurements on DC. Very good value for money.,
Ivan, what scan tool is that and how do you like it? Nice video.
Launch X431 Diagun
What I learned: fancier is not better...and you get what you pay for most times and Walmart is not the best quality.
Hey Ivan, are you still liking the TrekPow?
It's a beast 😁💪
@@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics Sweet. My Noco GB40 took a dump on me after a year & a half. Looking to replace it. Thank you Ivan!
Put it back to stock, sell it, find seats in a vehicle he really wants and sell him the whole package?
The ads for all those obd2 scanner apps really frustrate me because they act like getting a code is the same thing as diagnosing a vehicle. Sorry had to vent. lmao
Haha hopefully my viewers see right through that BS ;)
Those Walmart batteries suck my friend had to warranty his 2x. The last time he just got a battery from AutoZone and no more battery problems
great video ivan i got very excited when i thought there was a parasitic draw lol i thought to myself o boy here we go lmao
Customer reminds me of a friend of mine. Hey extra wires just cut them off.
Enough said
Wow. Calm down.
it's easy to miss idiot lights and gauges trust me, I've nearly killed some vehicles myself over the years, but of course my "nose" is tuned to things going amok and alerted me well beforehand lol. but the point is I didn't notice the gauge/s and the idiot lights mean pull over instantly, because you done broke it ;)
Maybe they had something plugged into their power ports all the time (like some chinese junk device or chinese junk usb cable), or have a habit of leaving the interior lights.
As Eric O says somebody been meddling in something that they ought not be meddling in
He should have left the old seats in the car. My modo is, if it's not broke don't fix it, lol. Good luck with this one.
I like COCOLA
That's COCA'COLA
Make them sign their right to sue you away before doing anything, a simple liability release is not enough.
I also take pictures of the swapped seats, the messed up wiring, and anything else that could fail in the event of a crash. It wouldn't hurt to have an admission from the customer detailing what he did, and again stating no suit can be filed. I would also consider having it notarized.
When they screw it up, make sure that fact is documented, as they might not be the one trying to sue, it may be the family or other kin folk.
Waivers don't disallow carelessness or incompetence.
Let's talk about that motorcycle behind you!
"Never Start" from WalMart. WalMart..enough said! Battery was probably bad new. It happens.
WHO cuts a connector off! Damn!
When customers think they can just swap seats 😂 .."its just four bolts" . hope he didnt pay much for them.
I know income is income and you're very good at this. But I'd be tired of some of the junk that shows up.
And the people that "fix" them before you get them.
awesome
