It's such an encouragement to see Christian physicians willing to proudly wear their faith. Thanks for shining your light while also being a great pediatrician, Dr. Threadgill! I hope to be like you someday.
Great interview! I love my sons ped, she is wonderful. I agree with him. We see our ped all the time (thanks to daycare germs) & I feel blessed to have her not to just take care of my baby, but for guiding me through motherhood (1st time mom)!
Really enjoying this series! Family sports med and EM are really interesting me right now! Could you add a military resident/med student questionnaire to this series? I'm a reservist and I start rotc in the fall so I would really appreciate hearing from a service member! Thanks man and keep grinding!
Interestingly enough, I found out this week that our EM program is directly associated with the military due to a nearby Army base. Around half of our current EM residents are military so I can ask around and see if they can share their perspective! From what I heard briefly, these military EM programs are popular across the country so you're definitely looking towards a very good specialty!
I know the good doctor said that if he were not a people doctor, he would be a “car doctor”. I think he would be an awesome special education teacher. He has the heart for it!
I was so excited to see this video as an aspiring pediatrician, hoping to enter medical school next year and hopefully one day become a pediatrician 😊, great video, learned a lot from it 😄
I am a first year university student in Canada, I have wanted to be a pediatrician since the age of ten yo. Hope to keep working hard to achieve my goal!
Not necessarily an MD, however, could you interview an RD/RDN (registered dietitian/ registered dietitian nutritionist)? I just found these and am already obsessed!
One of the most interesting things I've noticed from watching a number of Andy's videos is that there are some patterns of behavior that seem out-of-the-ordinary to me, but which might be connected to culture or customs that I'm unaccustomed to. I'm wondering whether they could be mostly due to geographical location, or whether they're due more to the people Andy chooses to associate with (or whether there might be other explanations). For one, a _lot_ of the doctors I've seen in his interviews are openly Christians whose religion is apparently a major part of their lives, judging by the way they talk about things like bible study, writing about religion in their spare time, wanting to have dinner with Jesus, etc. Is it the average norm for people, including doctors, to be so openly religious in this region of Georgia? Or is this trend probably more influenced by the extended social circle Andy picks his interviewees from, such as if he's involved in Christian medical organizations? I'm from Massachusetts, one of the least religious states (also the one with by far the most doctors per capita), and this trend is pretty surprising to me because 1) very few people I know or have met are religious enough for it to so easily come up in an interview like this; and 2) I associate doctors with being less religious than the general population, and most I know are so used to presenting a totally neutral, uncontroversial face in their profession that they'd be unlikely to bring it up in everyday conversation. I am interested to know whether there really is such a big cultural difference between the states, or whether there is some other explanation for this. For another thing, it seems like every interviewee has readily offered Andy something to drink during the interview. I know it's a fairly common thing to do in the U.S. to offer guests refreshment (and many other countries as well), but in these videos it seems so standard that I wondered whether it was pre-planned before every interview, or else whether every doctor had watched other videos on this channel and picked up on the trend. Now that I'm thinking about cultural differences between states, I wonder: Could this be a Georgia/Southern custom too? That it's just expected to offer a guest a drink every time they're in your home, regardless of the fact that they're in the middle of conducting an interview? There are a few other patterns I've noticed, but these ones have stood out to me the most. Anybody who has the world knowledge (or knowledge of this channel) to shed some light on these ponderings would be much appreciated to do so!
I would say the offering drinks/some small food item is fairly universal in most American homes. Discussing God and religion I would say is more region dependent, but even still there are many people who, when asked, will say that their faith is at the core of their values or their reason for being (see athletes, politicians, celebrities, etc.) The degree of sincerity in this certainly varies.
offering drinks is super american and considered being a good host. As a southerner myself i think the religious part seems to be cultural and regional wise, and definitely the age of the doctors. Since he was in Georgia at this time he was gonna get many religious doctors since it’s Georgia
Im a medstud from indonesia and most doctors here are religious (muslim). Personally i trust religious doctors more bcs they truly want to help you bcs of their faith. Im not saying atheist doctors aren't as good, but thats my observation. Religious doctors are so passionate.
I really like this series a whole lot. But the way you pronounce "specialty" makes me pronounce it to myself like 5 times every time you say it once lol where's the ttttttt
