Wonderful presentation, learned a lot thank you. One thing I would pitch as well that I didn't hear you mention, is refreshing smoke detectors too. They turn yellow quickly. It also helps make the house look cleaner, newer.
    Thanks again!

Plus, most manufacturers like Kiddie and BRK provide only 10 years shelf life on their smoke detectors and co/ smoke combo's. The wireless/ bluetooth technology really upgrades the entire smoke detector system when implemented.

I was just quoted 8k from TE in atlanta ga for just a panel swap out ONLY.This included 50 slot breakers 200 amp. It also included 30 arc fault breakers. Even if you change that to normal breakers, that's still insanely high. I wish you were in my area

If you're going to a qo square d and arc fault /GFCI add about 2k

I’m working on a commercial project and received an estimate for $67k.
Here’s a description of what I’m told needs to be done. The existing power is 200 amps, Main Disconnect, Install and Change to 800 amps 3 phase, Main Disconnect, Install 2 electric box or panel for inside each 400 amps, Install pipe Emt 3 1/2 400 ft 800 ft wire Wire THHN #500 kcmil. I’m wondering what is driving the price up so much. Assume the wire, but I have no idea.

Great video. I honestly don’t know where some customers go for comparable quotes sometimes. Here in LI,NY especially now you can quote a job thoughtfully and you’ll hear someone did the job for half the price either off the record or covered by someone’s license. Drives me crazy but at least I can see our price lined up. A little higher because labor costs more in NY but still in line.

Depends on the code cycle in your area because some states are on the 2008 and 2017 books. Does your state require AFCI protection throughout the home. In the 2020 cycle states that don't require an outside service disconnect will require some service disconnect means.

In my case, a 100 to 200 amp upgrade including a 50 foot power line going to the telephone pole is $3200 for an electrician to do it or $4500 for the solar company's electricians to do it.

Can upgrades from 100 to 200 be done without having to rewire the house with a ground or will they require you to have everything grounded? That would be the extra cost I'm afraid of. I'm not sure if that's a local requirement some places. I've been seeing conflicting comments around videos like these. Thanks.

    • @ElectricalCodeCoach
      @ElectricalCodeCoach  2 роки тому +3

As far as the service/panel change goes there's nothing in the NEC that requires anything to be rewired outside of the conductors that feed the service or the feeder. But definitely check your local ordinances and work with your local electrical inspector, thank you for the comment!

Have a crawl space to go into to find another box
They wired the garage a bit weirdly and only fixed some stuff in the house when they remodeled.
So my main box is a breaker panel.
I have a 10/3with ground running to a fuse panel in a crawl space in my basement. Then from there a flat 10/3 with ground is run underground to the detached garage.
I have most of the wires tracked down in the garage except 1.
I'm the garage itself there are 3 different fuse boxes.
1 with 2 fuses that the main lead runs into
1 with 6 fuses that most are run from (has a red and white wire running into it from the main box)
1 with 4 fuses in it( has the black wire from the main fuse running into it)
Then some random black wire going into the ground next to the main flat 10/3 ground wire that I'm still trying to track down lol
