If my local places had T200s and Scotty's I'd rent them too 😂
i was pleasantly surprised to say the least
@mattfryergolf now go to a real local course and not St. Andrews. Obviously they are going to have nicer clubs
Just as a general observation, that golf course you golfed at would be considered a rather "high end" course. Try going to a cheaper municipal course and see what you'd get for "hired" clubs. Very interesting
Probably won't get hire clubs at a lot of courses.
Matt I love your content , and your great sense of humor. I hope to see you and Rick do another collab at some point.
I hired a set of ZX5s when I was in Pasadena last year and loved them.😊
Would be good Matt if you could let us know the cost of hiring the clubs & what the green fees are of the courses you play.
Loved it, one of my favourite videos of yours ever.
I once ended up with a set of Patty Berg Cup Defender irons as rentals. I'm 6'2" and was about 210lbs at the time, so they weren't the best fit for me, to say the least! However, after a couple of holes, I managed to figure out how to get on with them. And my score wasn't far off of my normal score...
You now absolutely have to do another video comparing a very high end courses hire set to a normal local courses hire set. This video is a great idea but kind of redundant at the dukes, t200 scotty tsi all with stiff shafts as he knew you were coming screams of prep. These are far far better than most people own set let alone a hire set from your average course.
I'm counting the excuses . lol. And I might use some of them myself. They always look closer than they are. I've yelled, "Go in the hole " to find out it's 20' away .
Might have been worth the watch if they were a set of "normal" rental game improver irons, a driver set a 12° and blade putter complete with dents in the shaft. And you have to play with the balls and tee pegs left in the bag from the last person.
What you actually got is pretty much a set of custom fit clubs.
Love your stuff Matt and the way you look beyond the private course upmarket golf perspective. Now what about a real test of the world of the hire club golfer, the golfer who plays once a year on a public course because the sun broke through and his mates are up for it. Love to see how you react to some bottom of the bin clubs.
Loved that , many years ago we played Disney Magnolia and walked past the caddy master’s room with the hire sets and there was around 20 sets of brand new Titleist irons and woods with Scotty Cameron putter and Vokey wedges in tour bags !
Rented set that had a Wilson Deep Red driver, the hosel was cellotaped and it had crack on top of the head from someone skying one. For some reason, I played really well with it...
Beware the injured driver 😂
I've actually used hired clubs at the Duke's course (business trip to Dundee, and I didn't bring my clubs!). My set wasn't too bad, but like yours it was the shaft flex that threw me off. Managed a 92 in wind and rain, so I wasn't too unhappy. But I certainly missed my own clubs! Enjoyed the video.
As a left handed golfer, the hire sets I've gotten have generally been a hodgepodge of mix and match clubs. The worst was a set with two three woods and no 6 iron, and a putter with the grip twisted by about 45º.
The only - only! - hire set I've gotten that was great was at Prince's Golf Club in Sandwich. Brand new Callaway Apex set, still wrapped in the plastic from the factory.
I highered a set in a ‘one horse’ town in Oz. All of the clubs were random brands, nothing matched and. Plus, half the set was right handed and half left handed. To cap it all, there wasn’t a putter😂. The ‘pro’ disappeared so I couldn’t chg anything. The view though across the course to the Southern Ocean was spectacular and I just pottered round and putted with the 3 wood. Just wonderful!
I fell in love with a Callaway Rogue 3 Hybrid which was part of the hire set at St. Andrews (playing the New Course). Bought one in the town the same day.
When I'd just started playing golf in High School, I was already working at a golf course. In the range shed, we had a big rack of the old rental clubs including 5-6 full sets of knock-off Tommy Armour 845 irons from the 80's. For whatever reason, I hit the irons well and they let me have them for free. Only problem was that at least every other round or range session, I would snap the head off one of the irons. No problem though, I'd just grab replacement from the rack. In the 6 months before I finally bought a different set, I probably broke ~20 of those irons.
I watched really many videos from you playing golf since many years! I always like d how you're scoring around the greens, making puts. But in the last time - i think - you lost a little bit of your abilities their. But with this scotty the brilliant putting was back! Take them in the bag, he seems to be made for you! As always, Great video Matt
I may have pinched it!
Beautiful pitch and run on that what was a shaky start on the first hole…👏🏼👏🏼
Whilst i was in the RAF we visited my brother in law who was stationed at Machrihanish and he hired a set of clubs for me, they were a complete set of John Letters clubs and they were gorgeous and was very sad to hand them back.
A couple of years later i bought a set of Letters tx irons which I play with for well over 15 years and to be honest ive never found anything that has come close to feel of them, Sadly John Letters no longer exists but they did make great clubs in their day.
Great vlog as always and well played with a strange set in your hands 👍
Played the dukes many times, not always I’m even near level par once I’m done with the front 9 😂 good going Mat!
What i wud give for that set the t 200s look unreal dream irons for me vokeys in aswell 👌🏻 great video as usual matty
I've never liked Titliest drivers & fairway woods! Never used their irons... The Titliest wedges, putters, and golf balls are class though.
Great vlog Matt, the voodoo curse came good at the end 😂
Played pre VAS Cleveland 588's-I'm old-and rental clubs were original Calloway Big Berthas. It was going from irons the size of my pinkie finger to a bushel shovel. Incredibly easy to hit Calloways dead straight, however, zero feel.
I was in Scotland last year and I was provided with a new set of Srixon ZX4's I believe. The Westerwood Hotel and Golf resort. Hilton
That’s the best set of hire clubs I have ever seen - cheating on your own clubs comment was funny. Great content as ever
The last time I got hire clubs was back in the mid 90s. They were pretty crap, can't even remember what brand they were but whoever took them out before me left a 6pk of beer in the bag scattered in different pockets. Shared it with my playing partner - good day!
I can relate to this video, when i go to my local course i get a choose between the most expensive brand on tour or slazengers.... i always go with Slazengers....
Nice video Matt.
Did you make an inquiry on the putter?
I'll take rental clubs if the alternative is not playing golf 😅 I rented a set of cobra airspeeds when I was down in Georgia for work and unexpectedly had to stay a second week, when I finished my round I tried to buy the driver & 5W from the guy I hit them so well! Most recently I was in the process of moving so my clubs didn't make it on the first truckload, but I still wanted to get out for a round. Found a cheap 9-hole course around the corner and rented a set, it was such a mixed bag of old clubs, not terrible but I started actually laying back off the tee or hitting a soft 8i to avoid the 9i with a poop-colored grip that was literally melting in my hands and leaving them sticky and brown!
You had me laughing a lot this video!
A set of Wilson;s package set in Spain, the driver shaft was neon green and was emblazoned in orange with the ominus words....."Firestick". I was more whippy than anything in my girlfriends basement.....🤣
The firestick! Golfs greatest invention!
Once again Mr Fryer is something else. Hires a ser of clubs and still shoots par,, amazing. Best looking swing on UA-cam. Did you buy the putter?
Love my Red X putter. Wouldn’t change now.
had some in Fiji and there was some left handed clubs included with my right handed clubs
OK I was expecting them to be some ping eye 2 irons, with persimmon woods, and an old bullseye putter
that would be a great set haha
Fantastic 🎉
@Mattfryergolf so did you buy the putter?
Not bad hire clubs but played in vegas and was given some brand new Callaway x hot clubs. Still had the wrapper on brand new 😊
Rented a set at St Andrews, and was 20 yards short everytime with wedges and totally cleared the greens with long irons 😂. As a relatively newcomer to golf I could only guess at yardages by what my own clubs do
Love my Srixon ZX5 driver!
I went to Tunisia and randomly decided to have a game. When I asked the golf rep said they went about 3years old but in good condition ect. I got given the first steel clubs after persimmon clubs. The grips were bordering falling off. That being said it was in a nice callaway bag and I had some nice golf balls 😂.... I ended up actually having a good round as I never hit it far enough to lose it lol
Love your excitement at putting a birdie 😂
Your swing is looking smooth! Are you working on slowing down?
Regarding not knowing how far the irons go... You are aware that many golf courses have this thing called a Driving Range, where you can warm up and practice before the game, right? Just a hint from a 24 hcp :D
Stayed at a hotel on holiday once which had a par three course. Some old odyssey blade putters , I couldn’t miss with them, tried to buy it off the hotel, wouldn’t have it though, thought I was nuts 🤣
Rented some in Spokane Washington
Was a beginner and about 9 holes in I realized they were women's clubs!
Well done matt 👏 😊
My putter! Great for distance control. If only hire sets were this good. I often see Wilson package sets and even a Top Flite half set.
They should have to pay you to play those.
Hahah yeah. . . Don't know if I can agree with the general premise of the video after seeing the rental set you got set up with haha those are nicer than most people's gamer set haha but I guess it's sort of like playing with brand new premium clubs off the rack, rather than being custom fit.
But either way, hell of a putt on #8!
Proof if needed, around tge greens need great concentration.
Had the Futura 5CB. Played one round and put it on EBay. Felt like it sat closed at address and I missed everything left compared to the Spider.
So, did you buy the Scotty C? You looked good with it, last hole excepted.
Mmmm that entire 4th hole and the putt on 8th hole were divine.
Did you buy that putter then?
Cheers
What the hell. Titleist 200s, TSi woods, and Scotty putter in rental clubs? Man, I’ve been visiting some low rent courses apparently lol.
Very good Matt for not having your own clubs with you. Perhaps you could have just closed the face slightly with the driver to straighten it out or just do what you did and aim left a bit. I have never had high end clubs. Just started a couple of years ago and bought a set of old Nikes.
I hired an almost identical set when I played Hamilton Island Golf club. The only difference was a Cleveland putter and the shafts in the driver and fairway wood were regular flex. I found out after the game they had stiff flex sets. 😂😂
The rental clubs at my local course were so cheap looking I had never even heard of the brand 😂. I’d just rent if T200s were the option.
What putter do you use ?
Big difference between a hire set to a YT Pro in St Andrews and a set to Joe Bloggs anywhere else.
You should have gone to the driving range to measure distances for the irons LOL
Matt, you need to do a vlog with Pete or Andy with some old school persimmon and hickory.
My crew and I were forced to use mallet putters on rented clubs. After playing only blade putters in the past, we immediately went out and all bought mallet putters after the round! Who knew….?
I suck so hired / rented clubs wouldn't make a difference. Regardless, it's a great video, bro.
Go to Spain and play with a rented set of Aeroburner Callaway RAZR😅
Get that putter Mr Fryer ⛳️
Aye way nicer than what we get😂😂😂
Hire set? yeah right. T200's, Vokey's and a Scotty🤣
Second ball is always perfect
A couple of the courses I’ve played where I’m from have full stealth woods, sim 2 irons, mg3 wedges and spyder putters. Only $80 to rent them 😂
Just be happy you are not playing with Peter's big gripped clubs!!😆
I'm sure if anyone go to that course proshop.... Guarantee they will never hire that set with that bag... They just hired to you cause they know you are a scratch golfer absa a UA-camr and they also know you will not damage this set.... 😊.
But in overall that was a great put there.
Did you buy that putter?
One hell of a fight back!
I was rather pleased with my finish!!
Would be a better test if it wasn’t at an elite club who can afford great rental clubs. This turned into a normal game of golf after 2 mins! Still, great content 👍🏻
Would like to know how much that set costs to hire
When you’re sponsored by mizuno and say “these are probably better than mine” about Titliest rentals.
Did you hire the balls too 😂😂Cracking
Giddy Matt
I’m calling bs, no way they are renting a brand new set of titleist for everybody. He set up that bag.
At 00:58 I freezes the frame. Are these clubs still wrapped in plastic? If so, why? What’s the story there?
Did you buy the putter ?
The quality of rental clubs probably has a lot to do with where you are playing.
Was that REALLY the hire set normally or a set of clubs put together because they knew Matt was turning up doing a blog at StAndrews🤔🤔🤔🤔
2k plus hire set? im not sure this is standard practice.
This is a joke right? Those aren't rental clubs!! Most of us play courses that rent out miss matched sets of clubs! Fun content though Matt, as usual. 👍
That set is better than most peoples playing set. Not really typical of the general offering of most rental sets. I got through the first ad, but meh... more clickbait on the title. Seriously, just put that set together on Golf Bidder and using 7's as condition it is a 1800 pound set....
I was in Korea and was given package set callway warbird with senior flex graphite shafts, it felt like the club heads were on the end of piece of over cooked spaghetti
Probably better for the locals
Lol that set probably cost like $1500 on the cheap side. My entire set cost $130 at the local sporting goods store.
Sigh. The last hire set that I had looked like something dug out of the waste bin. Never again.
Worse rental clubs? given a bag with a mix of LH and RH clubs.
Come on you’ve got a bag full of some of the best clubs out there…But ! Their not yours and that makes a difference….get after it Matt 👍🏼👍🏼
Sorry Matt you’re a scratch, you should be able to play with broomstick and a feathery, no excuses. I’m arriving in UK and picking up my 70 pound golf clubs and bag bought off EBay. Five rounds in I’ll play to my 16 handicap just the same as I do with the 1300 dollar clubs at home. I will miss my driver, my 56 degree 14 bounce wedge and my Odyssey red hot putter but no excuses: it’s the gunner, not the gun.
OK Elephant in the room
HOW MUCH ?????
Hahahah how do you know about Gasolina.
golf but everytime you get a bogey you lose a random club from your bag for the rest of the game
reasonable clubs tbh
The only hire clubs I've used were at a fantastic course in Austria. Sadly the clubs had shafts with about as much firmness as a 75 year old who'd lost their Viagra.
Try a left handed set 😂 that’s really a joke!!
So not an accurate depiction of rental clubs. Last time I had to rent, I had a 3,5,7,9 irons, the 5 was left handed. All mis matched. Driver and 3 woods were both damaged and the putter had a grip that was twisted. That's a rental set.
Hardly your usual set of hire-clubs, not sure what the point of this otherwise enjoyable vlog was, if it was about how to play with rentals.
