I 100% recommend a driver fitting like this, BUT PLEASE make sure you're in golf shape before you go! I know that sounds dumb but it's not uncommon for a fitting to go longer than an hour if you're trying all the different head/shaft combinations. Because if you've never hit drivers for 1.5-2 hours straight it's exhausting! 😂
Also, in my opinion, if you have a high handicap and dont regularly break 100, then it is probably a waste of time and money to get fit. You will spend a lot of money for nice clubs with inconsistent shots. Stick with regular flex shafts for men and ladies flex for women.....get lessons, play better, and then think about a proper fitting
Thank you. But this kind of fitting is only for player that hit the ball every time on the spot. For the average player a standard shaft of today’s quality is more than good enough. 😊😊
SGGT are second to none. Superb fitting experiences on the times I’ve been for irons and wedges. Also did a driver fitting, nothing came out better than what I was gaming, so no pressure to sell me some thin I didn’t need either. So good 👌🏻
I’ve been fitted for 2 sets of irons and a driver at SGGT over the years at their fitting Centres around Edinburgh. Always a great experience. One thing I really like is you’re not stuck with the manufacturers fitting carts, you can have any head on any shaft, with any grip. My clubs are all totally unique and tailored for me, I even have more tape under my right hand and a tiny amount of extra weight in the heads of my irons.
That was a long video but worth the time spent. What I took away from this clip is that to benefit from exotic/expensive options a player needs to have a high skill level to produce a regularly consistent swing. Without that consistent regularity the differences in successive swings can mask all differences that could be offered by different shafts. In effect I believe I can't swing the club well enough to feel the differences in the shaft options. Really, players need to be near tour standard to benefit from such a service.
This past September I went for a driver shaft fitting at Accra in Kingston, Ontario Canada. Lucky for me they are 30 minutes from home. Ended changing shafts in both my driver and 3 fairway, kept my club heads. Eight to ten yards distance for both clubs and much better dispersion. Two weeks later another fitting for my irons switched from stiff steel shafts to regular graphite Accra shafts. Again distance gains but better ball flight and dispersion. Rather than new clubs I switched up shafts spent significantly less money and now feel I am getting the most out of the clubs I have been playing for a few years now. Money well spent.😊
I got fitted at SGGT in Edinburgh. Loved it. Spent a small fortune. Back end of 2024 for driver and 3 wood fitting. Please don’t go here expecting to save money. That will not happen. But u won’t be left disappointed
Hmmm Autoflex launching a too high and spinning too much but the same distance , I am surprised the fitter did not lower the loft which would have helped both of these issues and addressed the swing weight as Autoflex straight from their sight have a chart which shows the proper swing weight for each shaft , mine wanted a D0 D1 SW , that TSR is factory D3 - D4 which could cause a droop issue that heavy , it can be a real beast once its tuned in !!! I love mine !!! not for everyone seems to work better for smoother transitions. Hey James order a few lighter head weights and give yours another try !! it also took a few rounds to get used to the lighter feel, good luck !!!
A fitting from someone who is not selling their preferred brand would have your best interests at heart. Great facility and video. Great way to start the new year leading into all the new drivers being released
Go to a lighter shaft, I picked up a vanquish 40 gram stiff, tipped 1 inch @ 44 inches on a cobra ltd-ls, it's high launching and low spin and picked up 4 mph and 15 yards !!😀, James you and your family have a great new year !!
40gram shaft!? I shot a 77 on a pretty hard coarse Saturday and my driver averaged maybe 260yds😢. My daughter(high school) plays a 50 gram and I’ve always loved the weight of hers but obviously it too whippy. I’m gonna take your advice and get a light stiff tip shaft and try… thanks
Great video that. Loved you calling out Gaz for wanting the coloured shafts, and then you were itching to get into the bright pink Autoflex 😂 but I definitely would be doing the same. Look forward to seeing how you get on with it.
Good content and informative. Would have been nice to see a summary of the data by shaft/head combination with a comparison at the end. Also a comparison showing the different dispersion results, too.
Would love to see a series on those who get “fitted “ with pre and post fitting results. Not just a few strikes in a simulator or a round or less on the course. But pre-first how they did the year prior to fitting. Then for a year after the fitting with the “matched for the individual’s head and shaft optimization “ actual use. That’s the only way to also eliminate some component of placebo effect.
Well you’d also try and eliminate improvement bias which is basically impossible because the person may just get better at golf over the year (or regress)
OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer Great vid James. I've also been watching your pal Gary's fitting videos and he seems to have had a lot of success...especially with his driver, by adjusting swing weight.
Thanks James. I think its important when you get a fitting that the golfer talks up to the fitter and says what feels right etc. If you are hitting good shots it could be just time to stop and pick the shaft! Otherwise you risk messing too much and getting confused.. Also beware picking the last shaft you try as you are warmed up and probably walloping it at that stage!!
I remember when the average Golfer barely thought about shafts beyond the flex! This along with Gary Martin’s videos have been excellent in explaining the importance of being fitted. Enjoyed this.
Scott and his team do amazing work. The range of options is almost limitless and they're brilliant at helping you navigate towards the best outcome for you and your game! Always worth paying them a visit.
As an owner of an AutoFlex X shaft (not currently using) I recognised the similarities to what you were getting. Would have liked to him try you in a lower spinning or lofted head just to see if you could have dropped spin and descent and gain some more roll out yards. Would also like to see some form of alignment on the mat just to get a better perspective on target. Also, looking at your swing it seemed clear that the old shaft wasn't ideal for you.
James that was a really good and interesting video. Really shows how much things have come on for the average golfer. Just viewed the Auto flex shaft for its price and note that 1 iron shaft was more than my new 2nd hand irons (let's not go to the driver shaft cost). If you do read this might be worth considering a video for your lovely irons that you currently use. Might be worth another video using off the shelf irons and different shaft inserted in them to see the differences. If you want more content video ideas give me a shout 😂. Keep it up James.
Chris great observation, limited time with James for this video as we typically have 90mins minimum for a driver. We air compress grips and swing weight everything when time allowed but this was a pure shaft fitting same head to max out potential
Not a clue this was there, it's less than a mile from home! My local driving range, but haven't played for ages so not kept up to date. No excuses now re kit if I make a comeback..
James, was this before, after or with Gary? Answered while watching, Gary was having the iron shafts checked, graphite on the way. The shaft of choice at the fitting, really delivered, but will it enter the bag in the not too distant future James?
Can’t be the same price as a normal fitting but looks amazing I’ve gone from 60g stiff to 50g reg to hit more fairways so somewhere like that would be something I should look at 👌👍👍
I am gaming TPT in both my driver (nitro 16hi) and mini driver (red 15lo) - never looked back!! dispersion is much tighter, and ballspeeds are through the roof without killing dispersion closing in on 200 mph BS - 10/10 recommend it to everyone,
This was very interesting and the interplay between you and the fitter both engaging and enlightening. One question though - at the end of the day, did you switch outs of the Paradym Triple Diamond??
good vid, thanks James. would have loved to see how much impact was with the new shafts fitted to your Paradigm triple diamond head. just thinking the new driver head must have had an impact on the result compared to the Callaway. Good nontheless.
You sticking with TSR3 now?.😂 Watching the ball tracker, it actually looked like the Autoflex was very consistent, you just needed to turn the loft on the head down a bit to reduce some of the spin. Go back and do it again.... good fun 😂😂
Problem with alot of ppl, me included, is not having a consistent swing. What might work best for a certain swing speed at the beginning of the round may not be as good when you've been playing for 4 hours and just want to get home.
Do they have every shaft with the appropriate manufacturer’s tip or a universal tip (like All-Fit)? I think a lot of people that tinker would be interested in using a universal tip if a suitable one is available.
All the best for the new year firstly. So why doesn't manufacturers pure their shafts before sending them for dispatch. Something I don’t understand… the driver is hit at most 14 times a round. Irons at least double that.. why aren’t more iron shaft fittings done. Like I want to keep my iron heads, but maybe an updated stiffer shaft may help you more than a driver shaft.
@@LaurencePawley Thats fair enough, Maybe worth mentioning in the videos as people will judge it as a fitting and perhaps think its not as in depth, thanks for the reply! Would be great to see a video comparing a pured shaft to a standard one and make it a blind test.
Very interesting video James. I also like that you somehow are driving into the default windows 95 desktop graphic. :). Keep the great content coming in 2024.
Great video but i have a question, what level of golfer do you need to be to have a fitting like this, im cutrent a 16 handicap and i hit my driver ok, but i think i put at least 5 or 6 different swings per round with it, how can a fitter improve my game if you swing different every other time.
I would say it’s worth exploring even if via a free fitting somewhere first to see how much you benefit then venture into a more in depth fitting if you feel comfortable
James, I purchased a Tour Edge Exotics C723 Hybrid, it is incredible. I am very interested in the Fairway Woods now, possibly a 15 degree 3 Wood the Tour Edge Exotics C723 with adjustable head. I would love to see you and Chris test it in your usual process. I believe it will have the same sweet balance, feel and performance. I would go hit one but there's no shop anywhere near me with any. Hope you, Chris and families had a "Happy" Christmas....Blessings to you in 2024!
If you’re looking budget my pick is Callaway preowned, like new paradym 3 wood is $210. Pro clubs and mikes golf outlet has some good options too. You can get a new Cobra driver head for $150 and used ventus velocore or graphite design shaft for $200
Depends... If your game is solid but you're spraying it off the tee, yes - it definitely could help. If you're a 20 handicap and swing 115 mph, probably not as much, but there's a chance it could bring in your desperation. If you shoot 100 and play 3 times a year for work functions you'd be better off spending that money with your local pro for some lessons to get a solid foundation and then get fit. IMHO.
I would say yes, obviously make sure your ready and comfortable before you book anything. But also if you want a chat things through we are always available to help at SGGT
At the Autoflex … when spin and Launch are higher, you Must take off loft and the weight on the back of your Driver. This has not been professional fitting but a nice trying around by using quite some shafts 😅. Thank you anyway ❤
Could have been an option but we were testing shafts for maxing out. Current set up could have given improved results on set up but we did talk about the later stages of the round and wanting to work the ball a bit more
Whats your opinion on mizuno swing dna tool on the shaft which uses your swing data and narrows down a selection of shafts ? Would be good to see the same for driver fitting.
Great video, always love to see a proper fitter help someone max out their potential. Looking at your tracers, "seemed" like the Autoflex was the most consistent?
Hi James, I really enjoyed this video and as such am considering booking a driver fitting there. I also currently use the Hzrdus smoke black 6.0 shaft and carry the ball between 245-250 yards with my average spin of 1900 RPM. After listening to both you and Lawrence I wondered if switching to a slightly higher spinning shaft with a softer tip may help. I am currently shooting rounds of 76/77. Would a fitting help? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.
‘Every shaft in here has been pured’ fitter later states ‘You can’t pure this shaft’ when referring to the TPT! Hmmm so why has it got a Pured sticker on all the TPT range? Hope you aren’t misleading customers into charging them £30 for it to be pured when it can’t be or is not required! Anyway, still looks a top class set up but chubs will have a new driver/shaft combo in a few months again! Leopard never changes its spots!
Kinda feel you down played the Autoflex a bit there. TXG tested and actually showed that Autoflex can benefit even the top players with the right fitting. If the ball went the same distance with more spin, then if it was a "true" fitting to get the maximum performance, I think you / the fitter should have tested different heads / lofts / swing weights to bring the flight / spin lower to optimal. Jumping to a conclusion, same performance double the price isn't a fair fitting I think. I'm not an Autoflex user, I play Hazrdus smoke Yellow, just point out what I felt like a bit of bias fitting.
Gary didn't just change the shaft. He got his swing weight dialed in, too. I didn't see any checking or tinkering with the swing weight directly in this video.
Hi James, would have been good to see the shafts put in your current driver to see if any improvements could be gained..
I 100% recommend a driver fitting like this, BUT PLEASE make sure you're in golf shape before you go! Agreed we take along time looking at this and as you can see this is a snip at what we do in the full fitting.
When I went for a iron fitting I felt more tired than a gym session and the following day my back arms and neck was in bits.
@mugz_1437 yup, definitely need to warmup and stretch before and after....hopefully the fitters are telling everyone this prior to their appointment.
Thank you. But this kind of fitting is only for player that hit the ball every time on the spot. For the average player a standard shaft of today’s quality is more than good enough. 😊😊

That TPT shaft looks awesome. Ball flight instantly looked better. Very interesting to see a test like this an not have Ventus TR. in the mix
..agreed, i was waiting for the Ventus!!
Agreed, Ventus Red TR. He could use a little more height imo.

I did this last year, and it made a huge difference, with no need to replace the club head.
Saw the VA composite Nemesys on the wall there. I got fitted into one of them in triple diamond paradym.
Won’t be leaving my bag for a long time
I remember when the average Golfer barely thought about shafts beyond the flex! This along with Gary Martin’s videos have been excellent in explaining the importance of being fitted. Enjoyed this.

Best video of the year!! But seriously this is the best way to get fit agnostic and with all the options.
Very informative! I have recently been fit for irons and now I think the driver will be next
No mention of swing weight, shaft length, grip thickness , loft or changing the weight settings????
Chris great observation, limited time with James for this video as we typically have 90mins minimum for a driver. We air compress grips and swing weight everything when time allowed but this was a pure shaft fitting same head to max out potential
If you went to the auto flex into a Lower loft like 8 degree tsr3 it might have been perfect and about 10 yards longer than everything else
Really interesting video, James. I especially geeked out when he was talking about puring the shaft. I never knew what that meant before.
Interesting point, there are plenty of good fitters online that say that puring is a waste of money/ makes negligible difference
So what did you finally wind up with and will it be "In The Bag"?
The TPT shafts are really next level. Amazing feel consistency.
Not a clue this was there, it's less than a mile from home! My local driving range, but haven't played for ages so not kept up to date. No excuses now re kit if I make a comeback..

This was very interesting and the interplay between you and the fitter both engaging and enlightening. One question though - at the end of the day, did you switch outs of the Paradym Triple Diamond??
I had no idea that Morrissey was doing club fittings now?! Sweet!
good vid, thanks James. would have loved to see how much impact was with the new shafts fitted to your Paradigm triple diamond head. just thinking the new driver head must have had an impact on the result compared to the Callaway.
Good nontheless.
You sticking with TSR3 now?.😂 Watching the ball tracker, it actually looked like the Autoflex was very consistent, you just needed to turn the loft on the head down a bit to reduce some of the spin. Go back and do it again.... good fun 😂😂
You was going to talk price james how much for fitting how much shaft etc
Problem with alot of ppl, me included, is not having a consistent swing. What might work best for a certain swing speed at the beginning of the round may not be as good when you've been playing for 4 hours and just want to get home.
Do they have every shaft with the appropriate manufacturer’s tip or a universal tip (like All-Fit)? I think a lot of people that tinker would be interested in using a universal tip if a suitable one is available.
Yes we have a system that allows all shafts in all heads
Entertaining and informative, it looks like a great place to visit. Do you think you will game the set up?
Outstanding video James’s and this type of video is what I enjoy watching

WOW I'd love to get a fitting
How much on a average do the shafts costs , it would of been good if you discussed prices in the vid
Fantastic video. would like to see you doing an iron fit with them.

Fair play for running a marathon... I think the only marathon ill finish these days is now called a Snickers !! Interesting Video.. Thanks
Curious to know what adapter they are using to fit each head.
We have a universal adapter so we can put everything into everything it’s the best way to compare heads and shafts
I’m surprised after gaz fitting you didn’t use his guy
Very interesting. How much is a fitting, roughly, if you’re able to say. Please
Depends on the fitting but ours vary from £75-£150 but are 100% redeemable against a purchase
If you can't hit a driver or other woods consistantly, does shaft fitting really matter?

Do you reckon there is any point in getting shaft fittings if you are more than a single-digit handicapper?
I would say yes as ultimately fitters worth their oats will see swing traits and should be able to help you find something to help your golf
@@LaurencePawley Thanks, and does that go for irons as well?
I would say yes, obviously make sure your ready and comfortable before you book anything. But also if you want a chat things through we are always available to help at SGGT

Oh my word i could spend a week there just marvelling at all them £300 bad boys
Do you have to get a shaft upgrade or do they have the stock shafts also ?
Thanks.
Seeing the shot "numbers" from the launch monitor after every swing would be appreciated.
Looks like Pro V1 balls are being used?
I would have loved to see the TSR3 results
Great video, I wish I had went this way, instead I bought 10 different shafts to find my best. :(
Always happy to help if you need, take them to one of our locations and we can help and advise the best for you 👍
I wish, I live in the US.@@LaurencePawley
Well done James 👏 😊
So which shaft did you go for? Happy new year James to you and your family ❤❤
The hzrdus shaft you're using, is it a stiff or x-stiff?
What driver are you using here?
I'm loving the video but I'm confused/curious what head you were using when trying the different shafts? Your paradym or the one they recommend??
He stuck with TSR3 head for all those shafts.
James did you switch to a TSR head also?
Hard to imagine a driver fitting without a Ventus VeloCore....
We have it in the studio but we only when with that was relevant for James 👍
Did you try Mitsubishi Vanquish?
What shaft was the winner?
So you changed to a Titlest head and different shaft???
Ran a marathon in 2019 now just eats marathons lol
You know it 😂
Kinda feel you down played the Autoflex a bit there.
So Gary was right then
Gary didn't just change the shaft. He got his swing weight dialed in, too. I didn't see any checking or tinkering with the swing weight directly in this video.
