Awesome! Finally a yoga teacher who teaches that Yoga is more than just postures. It’s so much more than just stretching out lol. Yoga is an entire way of living, using the asana to quiet the body which helps to quiet the mind thru meditation which all leads to experiencing the self.
I started practicing hatha daily including meditation and changing my diet a little over a year ago. My original intention (and still is) was the spiritual aspect of realignment as well as the physical benefits. Withing 4 months I dropped 31lbs! But around the 2 month point, I began experiencing VERY intense kriya awakenings during meditation that left me feeling a literal high or buzz for days. My body has continued to change and I seemed to have settled at a very slim 141lbs @5'9". And I'm a 45yr old male in Texas! I truly believe that while I have always exercised and been physical, it was coming into inner alignment through the yogic lifestyle that caused such a drastic physical transformation. I took one vinyasa class and did not care for it because like all thing's in the west, they focus on only the physical workout aspect of yoga. It's more like an aerobics class using yoga poses but completely lacking the inner connection and awareness building of meditation and breathing. So it's not for me. But as a male practicing yogic living in the west I'm already pretty much on my own anyway!😂
You are so right- finding a teacher is the most important thing. I really started liking yoga when I found a teacher, that I loved. Unfortunately I can not go so often to live classes and am only participating online
Finding the right teacher for you is so important and makes a huge difference to your personal yoga practice. I always recommend trying out as many classes as you can 😊 I hope you'll be able to attend more live classes soon 🙏
Thank you Emily, that was very informative. I have been practicing yoga on and off for over 20 years and have been with many wonderful teachers however half the time I didnt know which kind they taught of the differences between each. I am looking for a fuller experience of the breathing and meditation and asanas and again thank you for pointing me in the rif=ghtb direction, am looking forward to rekindling my yoga journey.x
Thank you for all your precious explanations and also your good vibes... I really appreciated your tip at the end "find a teacher with who you connect with", totally true for me 🙏 Thanks 🥰🥰
I found your channel recently, I really new to Yoga and have been loving understanding more of what is yoga with your Yoga off the Mat series. Thank you!
@@EmilyRowellYoga I'm glad to be here ^^ I did your latest yoga video last night (1st yoga practice with you really), and it was lovely! I was feeling a bit anxious before bed and I thought I'd give it a try, and, I can't even remember when I fell asleep. It was so comforting
Thank you for explaining this so nicely! I was anxious to try out one of these as I’m not the most flexible person in the world but wasn’t sure which one is the right one to try.. think hatha makes sense right now and as I build confidence I’d like to try vinyasa.. I did try yin yoga recently and absolutely loved it!
Vinyasa yoga classes are so dumb. The place I go to is super fast and cardio focused. Baths yoga is WAYYYYYY better for mindfulness and strength. Thanks for the video!
Yamas and Niyamas you skipped for the definition of Hatha. The next four (pratyahara dhyana dhrana samadhi) is related to Raja Yoga. You are explaining it a bit wrong !

I love this video. Also, I appreciate the intention of emphasizing the use of the Sanskrit words.
Very important emphasizing the use of the Sanskrit words. ❤ Instant follow from me!
Thank you, I think it's super important :)
Nice explanation about the difference between Hatha yoga and Vinyasa yoga. 🙏
Thank you 🙂

Thanks 🥰🥰
Thanks for the comment Jo, it is definitely really important to connect with your teacher and can take time to find the right one for you :)
Thank you for sharing this and your love and knowledge. There is no “ th” sound in Sanskrit. Hatha is pronounced Hot-ah
Watch for the aspirated "h". Hat-ha

Thanks for your comment Julia and welcome to my channel :)
