They should have realized those weren't American flags on those ship around them. It's their fault for hanging out around a potential warzone, unless they were being forced to do it.
I've seen a photo of one of those out of the water. It had torpedo tubes. Back in 1985 I went deep sea fishing with my dad, out of Port Canaveral. On the way out of port we saw a US sub partially surfaced. I had no idea what kind of boat it was, but aft of the tower looked flat for most of its length. Dad overheard something on the fishing boat's radio about a "fishing trawler", then about ten minutes later a couple jets flew over the area, apparently going to encourage the trawler to go elsewhere.
I flew on plenty of Phrogs off USS Nassau and USS Guadal Canal as an 0311. Had to say “ouch” to myself every time I heard “Chinook”. Went through the “helo dunker” trainer at Cherry Point three times and flew over the mountains of southern Turkey into Northern Iraq in a CH-46. The real name “Sea Knight” was known but never used. Like the UH-1 Iroquois. Nice to see an LHA and LSTs in the game.
I love those LSTs, such cool ships. The Navy wanted *fast* LSTs, but the usual way of building an LST with large doors on the bow for rapid disembarkation of loaded vehicles and supplies was very limited due to the overall lack of structure in that arrangement. They got around this with that derrick structure that extended well over the bow, they could run out a ramp for vehicles to run down, this left them with a fixed bow and the ability to hit over 20 knots without fear of damaging themselves
I understand the physics but it's still crazy to me how a "Fast" boat just goes the speed of a moped. I'm not super familiar with ships but I wonder if a nuclear powered jet boat is possible for these large ships and why they haven't done it for speed. It's probably extremely loud and a lot of factors for broken parts and maybe it just wouldn't work because of the way that a nuclear powered boat uses steam. But it would be cool unlike those LCS that are now being scrapped after just a few years in the water.
@@deekamikaze TL;DR: a ship big enough for nuclear propulsion to be worth it would be too big for waterjet propulsion to be worthwhile. The laws of physics say it just couldn't get that fast. One of the (many) problems with those LCSs is their waterjet propulsion and the obsession with speed in their design specs. Waterjet propulsion is mechanically a lot more complicated than traditional propellers and therefore a lot more prone to malfunction, among other downsides. They got the waterjets anyway because they were the only realistic way to get the speeds they wanted, even though really the LCSs could have fulfilled their designed roles just fine if they gave up a little of that speed for propulsion that doesn't throw a fit if you look at it wrong. The LCSs have other problems too. As far as "fast" ships being actually pretty slow compared to a lot of land vehicles, it's primarily down to two things: mass and drag. Even "small" ships are massive by the standards of land vehicles, and the more mass something has, the more oomph you need to make it go faster- that's just Newton's 2nd law. Ships, being bigger, pack larger and more powerful engines than land vehicles, but (1) bigger engine = more mass and (2) devoting more space to engines means less space you can use for other things that are presumably the purpose of the ship, like weapons in the case of a warship. Then there's the matter of drag. For one thing, water opposes things moving through it a lot more than air does. For another, the faster you go, the more the water (or air, the same concept applies to air just weaker) pushes back against you, so the harder you have to push to get that little bit more speed. Both the mass and the drag factors mean ships hit diminishing returns on power for speed a lot sooner than land vehicles.

And that skirmish let to an intelligence goldmine. A few days after that battle over Unalaska, a PBY on routine patrol happened by chance to spot a downed plane in the soft, marshy soil of neighboring Akutan Island. When they Americans investigated, they couldn’t believe what they’d found. The mystery plane was a virtually undamaged Mitsubishi A6M2 Zero, a fighter never before touched by Allied hands. The aircraft, dubbed the “Akutan Zero” was recovered and shipped to San Diego where she was rebuilt, repainted in US marking, and thoroughly flight tested. From her tests, we learned all the strengths and weaknesses of Japan’s best fighter, and that data was then passed to aircraft designers, who, now knowing exactly what they had to surpass, created new fighters that could beat the Zero. Tactics born from those tests were then passed to the pilots of the fleet, who would use them and the new advanced fighters they now had at their disposal to take back control over the skies of the Pacific…

I am not complaining, I love your vids😂 It's just really funny to me how You (and many others) pronounce Ropucha. In this case CH is definitely not pronounced like the ch in 'chest' - but rather as an H(a) like in 'Eisenhower'. Ro - poo - ha (a toad 🐸)!
So I have started playing this game. And it really appears to just boil down to "switch all sensors on immidiatly and give weapons free order, then get choppers started to scan the area". That appears to win me basically any scenario without much further input
Wolfpack back with peak 11:37 For future reference, the CH-46 is actually called the Sea Knight. But yeah, it does have some striking similarites to the Chinook.
There’s a mission where there’s 3 Soviet boats… like one frigate and 2 corvettes, and you need to take on a single USN submarine…. And it’s like, impossible lol You don’t get any aviation as the soviets and no matter how slow I go, even if I just sit at a stand still…. My passive sonar can never detect the enemy sub. Only the incoming missiles But other than that mission, im really enjoying the game. Few bugs, particularly related to speed control which need urgent addressing, but overall its a deadly game and even cooler concept
37:09 Is there any way in the game you can 'dog-leg' the Harpoons around that spit of land? I know mid-course guidance is a feature of later Block II missiles, but thought a pre-programmed indirect course was possible on even the early models.
Btw. Ropucha is a polish word for toad, they were built in Poland. The first Ch is not the sound "cz" like in Chinook or chopper but its 'H' like Helicopter, Hello and Home
This game looks amazing and another great video wolfpack, thank you. Do you prefer the missile base sea combat in this or the close in gun combat in war on the sea.
I just bought the game and I've really enjoyed it so far! I'm still learning the ropes and all, but it's been very interesting to learn about the game from what I've played so far.
I liked this mission. My one complaint was the Tango emptying the torpedo room on my as I made final approach with sonobouys within 200 yards of his position. put 4 fish into Mo, reloaded, and emptied the room AGAIN without being detected (everything was running away except Mo, which was badly damaged but not sinking) before I just manually pickled off 6 Mk-46s from my Sea Sprites into the general vicinity and collanderized the sneaky git.
That sub surprised my Mo as well. I'd been searching everywhere but the bay for subs. I had also just pulled my screens back behind Mo as I was gonna pull a Warspite and pull right up into the bay and start blasting. Queue 4 torpedoes taking out her propellers and leaving her dead in the water. At least she was turned broadside so all her guns could keep shelling the bay.
@@rampageTG Yeah, that was annoying, Mo was running away and only had the rear turret to bear, but I had clusterbombed everything in the bay with the harriers by that point. I'm planning on running it again this weekend, only this time I am not even going to bother with sonobouys, Im going to fill the bay with MK 46s until i see an oil slick
Hey @wolfpack345. Did your friend tell you how he did the triggers in the game? I'm trying to make a Cuba invasion campaign, but no one (devs included) has published a way to spawn units

Very excited to see a landing operation like this in game. My father served on a Newport-class LST in the early '90s so always cool to see 'em appear in a scenario.

Nice thanks for sharing!
so much fun watching your videos, thank you very much! ...bought the game only because of your videos with having no clue in naval anything :D
Watching that Ropucha eat it was so satisfying. Great video!
I was on a Spruance class in Desert Storm, the USS Caron DD-970. Watching the USS Missouri in action was truly draw dropping. We never thought that it would be the last time it would be used in combat. Watched your whole play though and am impressed with how accurate the fire systems are on the ships. I am keeping on eye on this game.
Cool Mission, the best I have seen on Sea Power 😊
Woohoo. Wolfpack posted and the game is out!!!
@23:55 Oh! It hit it!...ummmmmm...That looks like a fishing smack. Uh-oh! Pretty sure that was a spy ship!! LOL If I had to guess. Classic commentation, Wolfpack345
20:40 "Tomahawks please, weapons free"
Bombardment group: "Say less"
*fires a small country's entire GDP worth of ordinance in 60 seconds*
This gives the Deadliest Catch a whole total different meaning. And looks like lots of folks have the same idea when heard of Dutch Harbor too.
Now we need to get this into Discovery Channel
Awesome mission! I'll look for this one on the Workshop for sure. Thanks!
Lots of action from the get-go. Love it
I am not complaining, I love your vids😂
It's just really funny to me how You (and many others) pronounce Ropucha. In this case CH is definitely not pronounced like the ch in 'chest' - but rather as an H(a) like in 'Eisenhower'. Ro - poo - ha (a toad 🐸)!
You had a lot of balls in the air on this one. Great work
All the little animations in this game are amazing.
These videos are awesome, hope to see more Sea Power videos!
So I have started playing this game. And it really appears to just boil down to "switch all sensors on immidiatly and give weapons free order, then get choppers started to scan the area". That appears to win me basically any scenario without much further input
I've been waiting all episode to see the 16inch guns in action. Good stuff.
All the little details are soo dam cool!
Very cool video - please go on with this series!!!
I saw the Mighty Mo in the thumbnail and had to watch, love that beautiful boat
"babe wake up! Wolfpack just dropped an hour long banger!"
CH-47 is the Chinook and was only flown by the Army and Air Force. The CH-46 is known as the Sea Knight and was only flown by the Navy and Marines.
Wolfpack back with peak
11:37 For future reference, the CH-46 is actually called the Sea Knight. But yeah, it does have some striking similarites to the Chinook.
There’s a mission where there’s 3 Soviet boats… like one frigate and 2 corvettes, and you need to take on a single USN submarine…. And it’s like, impossible lol
You don’t get any aviation as the soviets and no matter how slow I go, even if I just sit at a stand still…. My passive sonar can never detect the enemy sub. Only the incoming missiles
But other than that mission, im really enjoying the game. Few bugs, particularly related to speed control which need urgent addressing, but overall its a deadly game and even cooler concept
Thanks for liberating my state Wolf
Amphibious assault ships are so cool, very cool mission nice job
37:09 Is there any way in the game you can 'dog-leg' the Harpoons around that spit of land? I know mid-course guidance is a feature of later Block II missiles, but thought a pre-programmed indirect course was possible on even the early models.
Btw. Ropucha is a polish word for toad, they were built in Poland. The first Ch is not the sound "cz" like in Chinook or chopper but its 'H' like Helicopter, Hello and Home
The ‘Vampire! Vampire! Vampire!’ caught me so off guard! Imagine hearing that in real life
Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Love the long form sea power videos!!
Good Stuff Wolf ! Thank you sir .

"I was not expecting these to be hostile"
forgot where the initial wave of Vampires came from I think
Solid!
Top KEK!
Peace be with you.
Love your videos and i am loving the game, bugs and all. Just not very good at it, but it has finally scratched my Harpoon itch.
I know it's early release, but it needs some of Harpoon's quality of life features.
This game looks amazing and another great video wolfpack, thank you.
Do you prefer the missile base sea combat in this or the close in gun combat in war on the sea.
Slow and steady wins the race.
Watched and Liked 👍
I just bought the game and I've really enjoyed it so far! I'm still learning the ropes and all, but it's been very interesting to learn about the game from what I've played so far.
Absolutely loving this, thanks 🙏
A costly and challenging mission. Fun to watch. Have a nice weekend.
I'm loving the game so far. It has so much potential.
"weapons free" and the Missouri took that as a personal challenge, sheesh
Just bought it this morning. Having lots of fun. scored perfect of both Charlies! and Sub Duel.
Great battle scene. Thanks for posting.
I was on the Fairfax county LST 1192 and was cheering for the LST's !
That seasprite in the middle of the stream of Russian missiles, and American AA missiles, just considering its life choices xD
Great gameplay!! Thank you
Coolest part of this game is how it goes from calm to all hell breaking loose in 5 minutes.

"Its just in the thick of it"
My brainrotted ass
"I'm in the thick of it everybody knows" (I suffered from extreme cringe typing this)
Wow hard to believe a Newport class is in, the floating shopping carts we called em when I was aboard one.
Hey @wolfpack345. Did your friend tell you how he did the triggers in the game? I'm trying to make a Cuba invasion campaign, but no one (devs included) has published a way to spawn units
Thankyou Really enjoyed this.
