This is so cool! I just started working as a communications specialist and have no idea what I’m doing yet lol learning as I go so this is super helpful!
love this video! I studied Journalism and now I'm studying ProCom and I have my first summer job as a communications specialist. This calms my nerves and I now have a better understanding of what it might be like!
I love these kind of Real World fly on the wall videos. It reminds me of when I actually went into an office and could see people working. Learned so many things that way!
I am currently a gym manager and looking to change careers. This video has opened my eyes into something that I had no idea about. I have so many transferable skills to do this role. I really enjoy doing different things day to day but also having a checklist of things that I can work through and tick off as I complete them. I love creating content, reviewing content, communicating to different departments and learning how each can work collaboratively. So anyway after that long random, almost application type comment, thank you for this video! I hope to see if maybe you have a video on how to become a communications officer or if you don't already maybe can you create one? :D New subscriber here :D
Love this Keylin - I work in marketing and comms and love to see other how other professionals manage their day. How do you fit so much into your life with the writing and freelancing too? You are super woman 🙌🏻x
Hey keylin Rivers, I am a communication officer also. But I still new in this position when I saw your video. Now I know what my duty is in the company now... Thanks from Malaysia...
This was a fascinating glimpse into your working day. It appears that several of these work tasks have helped you develop your freelance writing platform, which is great. Great video!
@@KeylinVLOGS Wow! You deserve an award. I applied for a position as the Director of Communications (prior to watching the video). After the video I tried to recall my resume. lol I want my next job to be easy (or to win the lottery).lol
This is amazing. I’m completing my degree in BA Integrated Organisational Communication at the end of the year and this is so interesting. I can’t wait to get into the work space.
It was fun to see what your work looks like outside of writing! I'm a nanny, so my day job has absolutely nothing to do with writing or storytelling, except when I'm reading books to kids I guess 😂
@@KeylinVLOGS I typically have 3-4 kids, but occasionally more. I get most of my writing done during nap times 😂 because after 10 hour days with little ones, I'm too dead to be productive in the evenings.
I watched this video before my first day of being a Comms Officer and had NO idea what you meant by so much of this 🤣 just watched it again and it’s all clear now, we have a very similar role!
hahah yeah I look back on this video and am like "damn, there is a lot in there"! Congrats on your comms role! Hope you're enjoying it, I loved mine :)
I appreciate this thank you! You're giving me ideas to do. It's my first time on a comms role but it's mixed with another role but yeah I'm learning here.
I have an interview for a Jr Communications Officer role and I would love some advice And ideas on typical questions I should prepare for! Any advice would be much appreciated!
I would be so happy to do that, thank you for the wonderful suggestion! I feel like my story is pretty unique because I feel into it a little bit, so I would be happy to share! Truly anyone who wants to get into comms can, it's just about going for it and upskilling along the way!
I would love to do this! Finished my communications major with honours in December 2021. Hopefully I can find an opening role similar to this one in Canada. If not, then America is where I’ll look.
Hello there.... I'm new here. So I'm applying for a communications intern position do you have any tips on what skills to highlight to attract the employer
Hi there, I just finished my Bachelor of Human Sciences: Majoring in Community Services and Public Health: Policy and Promotion. Do you think this degree is applicable to a communications consultant? It is sort of a broad degree haha Thanks
This was really interesting! I freelance in comms, but don't usually get this much done in a single day! Do you find a lot of your ghostwriting opportunities through UpWork? Also, I LOVE your white jacket! Where did you find it? I'm teaching a couple college courses in the fall and need to have a wardrobe that doesn't make me look 20 XD
genuine question, can having a ba comm degree or any communication experiences make me a professional and well known someday? like those famous advertisers ive researched on the internet?
Hi thank you so much for sharing it to us. Im starting on a similar role but in a small business (education) and will be working solo Would you have any suggestions of softwares or apps for presentations and newsletter? would love to hear from you wich tools do you use on daily basis. thank you!!
How do you become a communication officer. I feel like i’m a special case, i got my undergrad in animal science and i will soon have my masters in strategic communication but i’ve had a hard time finding jobs! Any advice would be great!!!
That was a hectic day! For someone who 'technically' works around 6 hours a day you clearly worked well into overtime. I hope your company appreciates you. Sounds like they need a bigger team? Sometimes small companies think one comms professional can easily do these tasks, but they don't realise all the extra time that goes into research, meetings, rethinks and general 'we don't know what we want until we see it' work. And on top of all that, you're creating your own vlogs and freelance and ghostwriting gigs? People who say younger generations don't know the value of hard work should take note. I came to your video because I have been a comms professional for a long time, but still love to learn from others about the way they work. I really appreciate the intrinsic breakdown of your tasks and to-do lists, couched in the everyday life stuff like making breakfast and dealing with discomfort. It adds some well-deserved humanity to the work of a writer, a job many people think is worth less than its true value, or easily replaced by AI tech. Thanks for this insight, comms/marketing people often try to portray an effortlessness to their clients. Your video adds some realness to this undervalued work.
@@KeylinVLOGS Thank you so much for this! I am actually applying for a role that focuses on Projects though. Any advice on the writing side and how I can upskill? I have more Project management experience and less of the writing side but get its quite key skill
@@JaniceDiaries Definitely! Personally, I took writing (creative writing, more specifically) classes outside of work at a local college for a reasonable price! Coursera, an online educational site also offers some courses by pretty prominent institutions for free--I've never used it but hear great things. There are plenty of other ways though and, if either your current or new organization is quite large they may even have their own classes. For me personally though, I found practicing was the best route to go down. Started writing for blogs (my own included) and kind of built a writing portfolio from there. Will you have to do more technical writing or are you looking to more generally?
What’s the exactly name of your degree? I want to study something really similar like marketing/comms but the name of the degree would be really helpful for me :))
for this job you'll study communicationmanagement! there are many jobs you can do, but as a beginner you'll probably do allround communication manager. (maybe assistant first depending on the company)
No hate, but working as a Comms specialist and now manager I sometimes feel is this even a real job? I cannot tell how many times I’ve had this thought of switching my profile to something more meaningful. To me Comms come off as - doing nothing yet doing everything and vice versa.

No problem at all! Hope it was helpful in the interview, and hope the interview went well!
Hi Dez! I know this is a year later, lol but would you be willing to share how your interview went in terms of what type of questions were asked?
