If you're back here because of... the news today, just want to say here's hoping round 2 goes better. The USAFA twitter has been a good source of live updates so far. Holding hope and thank you fire fighters! twitter.com/SteveMoraco/status/1761918051472077167
Also, to distract us in the mean time, the likes on this comment are the official petition to have the colorado springs philharmonic do a show of this video live, so please like if you would attend. I've been dreaming about that as a firefighter fundraiser for years.

I just cried through the whole thing. I spent my childhood here, all my friends and much of mine and my husband's family are here. I came back into town (from Denver) as the fire came over the ridge on Tuesday afternoon, with the winds. This is beyond surreal for so many of us. Thank you so much for making and sharing this video.

This fire was basically the thing that got me into wildfires. I was very young at this time, but I learned about it years later. This now is the lone memory that I know is from 2012. This time lapse gives me an idea what most of it was like

Rough time to be living in the Springs. The whole city was engulfed in smoke, and ash landed in my front yard deep in the center of the city! I could see it from the park across the street from me. More and more homes burning up constantly, a couple killed in the fire when they evacuated too late. An entire community in our city torched away. It was awful. I remember telling my mom "I hate this fire. I *hate* it." The Black Forest Fire the fallowing year was pretty rough too.

Born and raised in Colorado Springs, many of my friends and family still live there. In Denver now, I was out of town on work all last week and was getting spotty updates every now and then. I knew it was devastating, but this video puts it in perspective. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all the firefighters who are working their asses off to save lives, homes, and my hometown.

This an amazing but very sad video. It so surreal to see how fast that fire consumed that many homes. I live in Littleton, Colorado about and hour and a half away from Colorado Springs where this fire is taking place, and everyday I can't help but think about all my fellow Coloradans who are impacted by this fire. My heart goes out to those who lost a home in the fire.

I remember I was visiting my grandparents during this time. They live in the Springs, and they had brought me swimming on Tuesday. I have this undying memory of watching the flames come over the mountains and that awful smoke. When I got back to my home in Castle Rock, the cloud of smoke still covered the sky. It was like being in my worst nightmare. I hope we don't get any bad fires this year.

  • @JasonWardStudios

Wow, this video really shows the magnitude of the Colorado wild fires as the entirety of multiple mountains can be seen burning over the course of several days. Very frightening for those who live near by! Thank you for documenting this snapshot in our history. The music gives it a real sense of suspense too.

Hi Steve, I'm unsure why I've not written yet, but I wanted to the thank you for making this video. I was evacuated out of Peregrine that horrible Tuesday, watching the flames come over the mountain in my backyard, just before smoke rushed over the city. And even now I still watch it on my own, still remembering, still marveling. Thanks for this effort

Have been searching for the entire puzzle, as this week's been such a blur. So many emotions resurfaced as I watched this...absolute fear, uncertainty, helplessness, heartbreak, disbelief, sorrow, devastation...yet GRATITUDE and HOPE around every corner. My 22-yr-old daughter had to have me turn down the music because it was so ominous and foreboding, although I agree with you it conveys the feeling of this fire. This is absolutely amazing. I cried for most of it because of the terrible destruction that this fire has caused, but having that unique insight into everything that we may not have known had happened to Mountain Shadow's is good. Thank you.

This is a remarkable video that we can't get from snippets from the TV news. It brings the disaster home to those of us not experiencing it. I can't imagine living there and seeing all this everyday! How horrifying! We had a horrible fire in Bastrop, TX last Labor Day weekend and it raged for a week or more too. Thousands of acres burned, homes destroyed, and some loss of life. My heart goes out to the people here too!

Steve Moraco, amazing footage! You too are wonderful for documenting this event. Horrible for our town, our fire fighters and our beautiful land. I hope this turns to an educational video for our fire fighters.... the wind changes so frequently here.... God Bless.

Amazing time lapse. I too have a Canon 7D but have never used it in this way. I lived in the Springs 8 years in the 90s and both my daughters were born there, so we still consider it "home." The scar on the mountain from the quarry is nothing compared to the scars left by this horrible disaster. I am so sad that the beautiful view has been ruined, but more than that I am saddened by the loss of life and property in the Mountain Shadows area.

absolutely heartbreaking, yet wonderful documentary of what Colorado Springs and surrounding areas in our state went thru....around 7:12 couldn't help but have tears stream down my face as the music was so fitting for the horrifying smoke clouds of the homes....just devastating! I personally was amazed by the wind directions caught on film thru the smoke movement. Just superbly done....so utterly amazing....praying for our state...for all firefighters and emergency responders.......

Great video to help really tell the story of the massive scale of this fire. Earlier this spring, I completed my S-130 Basic Firefighter Training & S-190 Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior and I think your video would make an excellent future addition to the course training materials.

This almost brings me to tiers as i watch it. Praying for all those poor people who had been evacuated. And you are just amazing for deciding to do this time lapse i think it is amazing. And when i pressed like on this video i obviously didn't "like" what was going on but i was showing my support.

i live up North from you and have been devastated about what's going on to the south of me .. to the west of me (boulder) and to the north of me (High Park) and the countless other fires happening right now. this was an amazing view of what everyone down there is having to face and it just puts so many things into perspective. things that we think are going wrong in our lives - this has a sobering effect - and is a reminder to count our blessings. thanks for filming and sharing this. stay safe.
