I've been following the development of this game since 2015. It's frustrating when yandev releases useless stuff that no one is going to use. "What if you need them for future rivals?" Add the rivals first. Then add everything else. That's how game development works. You implement a huge feature and gradually work around it. He deliberately put Osana at the bottom of his priority list. We can only assume he's doing the same thing for the other 9 rivals. He doesn't even need to spend that much time on Oka because she was already a character before she became a rival. Her blueprint already exists.

Core gameplay should ALWAYS be the very first thing finished when developing a video game.
To be fair I think than focusing on core gameplay first it's not a bad idea. But I think than he should have launched the kickstarter a long time ago by now. All the recent builds have had only very minor twics, there is no reason for why the other rivals could not start development at this point. I understand he wants the game to be perfect for the kicstarter but a texture out of place, or an old animation it's not going to turn off anyone for donateing.

Nah. It was a meme game from the start. You play as a stoic nothing visually uninteresting blah, you stab people, you encounter anime archetypes and then you stop playing when the novelty wears off or you get tired of it lagging on your computer. It was never interesting. Before the fanbase died off in 2015, though, THEY were interesting, and I do miss that niche of tumblr where people would speculate and make fan edits and aesthetic posts. But they aged out of it. We all stop finding memes entertaining sometime.

It took six whole years for the first rival to be completed. Two and a half years later, and rival number two is still not done. Even in the wildly optimistic case where a build containing a fully implemented second rival is literally released tomorrow, that is, on average, one rival (out of ten) completed every 4 years and three months. Even if that were to happen, we'd still have to wait another _34 years_ for the game to be finished.
Sorry to burst anyone's bubble, but Yandere Simulator will never be finished.
Now what Yandere Dev claims is than the reason no more rivals are in the game yet is because he lacks the assets (such as, models, animations, voice acting exe...) to actualy make the other rivals. It's not exat to say than OSANA alone took 6 years since a big majority of those six years was spent just building the core game. Codeing the rest of the rivals will be much easyer than codeing Osana since a good chunk of Osana's code also applies to the rest of the rivals as well. In his 1980s mode video he explains how codeing the 1st rival of that mode took only two weeks, and codeing the rest of the rivals in took an other two weeks. So what he is doing right now it's implementing every things he wrote on a cheaklist of improvements needed for the kickstarter, he should be almost done according to his May 2nd blog post. Over the past two years for this reason he never once touched the rivals wich I personaly think it's a poor way to manage time. Most of the changes he made over the past two years are were nice but very spred out, even if they do add up to make a difference. With that sad I don't understand why can't he also start working on the rivals behaind the scens in the meen time, even if they are all just gona T-pose their way around school it dosen't matter beacause he would be the only one seeing them. Ever since I followed the devlopment I never got the feeling he was stalling for whatever reason sicne I started follwoing the game's development, but this is the only time it dose feel like he is intntionaly trying to stall, or than it's at the veary least incompetence on his part. I don't think Yandere Simulator will actualy take 34 years to be
finish BUT I've long since stop trying to guess when it will actualy come out. Recent estimates put it betwin the end of 2024 and the start of 2025, but I honeslty don't realy belive that. I just think than it will be completed sometimes this decade, it would be physicaly impossible for him to go any further than that.

Are you, like, an actual child or something? Because you should _really_ stay away from people like YandereDev if you are. Aside from the fact that he is a thoroughly awful person and might very well be a pedophile, control-freak narcissistic manipulators like Yandev just aren't any fun to be around, even if they _don't_ hurt you. And if you give him enough chances to do so he absolutely will. Seriously, stay away from this guy and stop drinking his kool aid.
All that aside, the whole point of the yandere trope is manipulating, stalking, and/or stabbing your way into some unfortunate guy's pants, and you simply cannot do that if there's nobody to manipulate, stalk, or stab. A Yandere game fundamentally _needs_ rivals to work, to the point where it's not even a _game_ without them. Any competent game designer or developer would have realized this almost immediately, and some sort of barebones rival would therefore be one of the very first things they would have added to their game. If you are designing a game, you need to make sure that your minimum viable prototype actually works and is actually fun to play _before_ you can add such things as fully voiced cutscenes, multiple maps, alternate game modes, or Easter eggs. Do it the other way around, and you risk trying (and failing) to polish a turd...which is exactly what Yandere Dev did.
Massacring a body of otherwise identical looking students with different hair styles was, incidentally, edgy/fun enough to make the game go viral early on, but in terms of gameplay there was nothing to actually _do_ in Yandere Simulator for the first six years. This is _not_ a good look for your game, by the way. But whatever. The "core" of Yandere Simulator, whatever that even is, is finished, and now that it is, adding more rivals on top of this "core" should be relatively easy and quick. Why, then, has it taken another two and a half years for Rival Number 2 to be added? Even if we suppose, just for the sake of argument, that he finishes the second rival and releases a build containing this second rival tomorrow, and even if we furthermore assume YanDev is able to continue adding rivals to the game at this pace (in spite of the fact that his code is riddled with technical debt and his game is full of placeholder assets which he says he intends to replace), there would still be 6 more rivals left to add at a rate of one every two and a half years. Even in a scenario so optimistic that it's honestly delusional, the game _still_ isn't even halfway done after nearly _ten years_ of development. Never mind _this_ decade, you'll be lucky if a finished Yandere Simulator releases before 2040.
Alex Mahan is a barely functional lolcow who will almost certainly be sharing a cell with Chris-Chan in whatever the fuck afterlife they end up in, and his biggest problem, by far, is his ego. He is unable to realize or acknowledge (never mind overcome) his many shortcomings. He is unable to admit he has bitten off more than he can chew. When speedrunners _destroyed_ the broken mess that was the demo, he stopped working on the actual game entirely and instead funneled his efforts into _several_ patches which tried (and failed) to stop them. And when the TinyBuild developer he specifically brought in to refactor the game actually started doing his job, His precious ego was so gravely injured by _someone else_ touching _his_ shit code that he fired the guy! There are _many_ possible ways he could have tried to make a yandere game, and almost all of the alternatives would have been vastly quicker and easier for a solo dev to actually complete than the one he went with. Yandere Simulator could have just been the demo, one rival only. It could have been a 2D RPGmaker game, like Undertale. Hell, it could have been a fucking visual novel. But no. Alex Mahan wanted a AAA game to show up some other dev he used to idolize before said dev snubbed a previous project of his. But AAA games, as it turns out, require large teams of competent artists and programmers to make, and Mahan is neither competent nor a large team. Yet he tried to make a AAA game anyway, and even though it was clearly the wrong decision his ego refuses to let him reconsider. His egotism is, and has always been, his worst enemy. Prince Vegeta at least was a badass underdog who actually managed to improve over time, but Yandere Dev is no badass. He is a deathly pale balding loser who lusts after teenagers despite being in his 30s and looking like he's almost 50.
I was still in middle school when Yandere Simulator was "pitched" back in 2014. I now hold a Computer Science degree, and on top of that I am a published researcher in my field, and a halfway decent artist. In that same time Scott Cawthon went from seriously considering giving up game development and going back to his day job to being the most wildly successful indie dev since Notch, and the Echo Project went from literally not existing in 2014 to having completed and published several modern classics. In the _Decade_ Mahan has so far wasted refusing to learn from his own mistakes, he _could_ have studied up on such things as software engineering best practices, or picked up the art skills necessary to actually make his own assets. I mean the guy behind _A Fox in Space_ switched to and learned how to use Blender, and then animated a 40+ minute cartoon with it, by hand, while also quitting smoking, in less time than that.
Alex Mahan will _never_ finish Yandere Simulator. He does not have the skills to complete a AAA experience by himself, and he lacks the humility to gain those skills. I will literally eat a hat if the full game gets released any time this decade.
I have a feeling this decade (at least 2029) the game will stop development, but not be finished, because at that point people who actually believed he will finish the game will leave since that’s just too long to be developing a game so therefore Alex will not be making any more money and have to do something else
People who think this thing is ever going to come out are adorable to me. The only thing less likely than that is Ayano acting like a yandere.
Too busy grooming kids
So many people wanted the game to be complete . Honestly , i want yandev to focus on adding rivals instead of updating a small updates. But overall , he did great at making small or huge update. I really hope the game will be complete

@@quangamng Animation and voice lines aren’t necessary at this point of development. He can make everything he needs and add the animations and voice lines after. Literally no game developer needs to wait for those kinds of assets, they aren’t necessary for development at all.

@@quangamng But you can just read the text? And not everything needs to be animated. If a game is still in beta / demo, the developer’s priority should be ironing out the core mechanics (e.g. all 10 rivals and their eliminations), not superficial improvements like voice acting and animation. Those are secondary to the core gameplay and aren’t necessary. He already has plenty of custom animations so he could easily reuse the rigs if he wanted to. It’s the equivalent of a baker saying they can’t make a cake because they don’t have sprinkles.

Honestly, with the recent drama around YandereDev i doubt we're even gonna get the game. Either developement gets shut down or someone else takes the lead in developement. I'd suggest the guy who remade the game in 2 weeks, but apparentlt even he got wrapped up in some drama, so at this point, Yandere Sim is as good as dead
i just wanna point out that the guy who "made it in 2 weeks" ripped all the code out of the game and called it finished. at least that's my understanding of it.

Used to be obsessed with this game, checking every possible update since 2014, i had high expectations for this game but the game is still pretty dull yan dev added so much small details that we don’t really need, the gameplay can be easily confusing if you haven’t been keeping track of the updates, overall the game could be a success but it’s been years and the excitement faded away years ago.
you also forgot on early 2021, ayano and taro's first hair rework was added and in mid 2021 they both got their final hairs😭😭

this game started development when i was 3. im going to the 7th grade this year.
I know everyone clowns on this game for never going to be finished, but actually stop and play it. Yan sim is straight up fun asf like there’s so much content and stuff to do and it’s very replayable. Like you got all the different elimination methods and the challenges and the mini games and it’s just really fun to play. Also you have the entirety of 1980s mode with different endings and stuff which is even more content to try.
also I hear everyone say the game runs bad but actually it runs pretty well. Like I played this on a really really old laptop with a shitty plug in mouse and the game runs shockingly well and I’ve somehow never encountered any glitches. Do I think the games ever gonna be finished? Idk I hope it is but I’m just here to enjoy a fun and exciting game that’s literally free
How well Yan Sim runs depends on your device and stuff, but it also runs pretty well for me. I do agree with you that it is a fun game. That's why I've started creating content on the game in addition to Roblox. I just wish Dev wasn't...himself, you know what I mean?

I play this game with a gt730 ddr5 (which is a low end gpu) at medium setting and I always getting 60fps (if I switch to highest it will be 35-40fps) ,tf you mean by poorly optimise
With all the recent stuff about Yandere dev the “best” thing for the game would be to hand all the assets and stuff to another developer to finish it, but even that’s a MAYBE because it’ll still have the reputation of having been associated with a pedophile for a long time

They'll grow out of it. Over the 9 years this thing has failed to complete, most people have gone from pretending he's fine to realizing he's trash. Over the coming 9 years (or however long it takes to complete, assuming you think it'll EVER be finished) your friend will go through the same cycle of disinterest, research, realization and moving on everyone else does.

What about the rival history? I think kokona was the first but what about raibaru, I’ve been a fan I think for around 7 years, b it I can’t remember. Was raibaru a rival or just some character that you couldn’t hurt?
nah raibaru was just a placeholder for osana since dev didn’t have a model for her yet
Kokona was the debug rival used to test the core features than will be later be expanded to other studens and rivals. It's likely than she'll also play a role in Kizana's week
Raibaru was just a placeholder indistrucable Osana and a way to not let' the player win the game in the debug builds. She later got re-purpused as Osana's bodyguard to stop the player for geting an istant kill on the rival with no effort.

@@BryansStuffYT well I have a lot of specific advice if you want to ask specific questions but in general, I would say, enjoy it!! it is a very specific time and i would say to really immerse yourself in the campus, clubs, etc
Yeah, and now a HUGE update is gonna be realized in 5h january, is sooo many things, it gonna have custom mode, mission mode in 1980s, now gonna have two new easter eggs that is a lust demon and a death demon, its going to have a new cutscene that is ryoba confessing to jokichi, add more bug fixes and a lot more, go see on his new blog

It's fair to say the game ballooned to the point it got out of control
Although the game's progress is slow as f* and its creator is an asshole it's a very interesting game with a fun backstory.

@@anthonycolon823 I do find than your argument has some good merits to it. Yandere Dev it's not the best with how he chooses to prioritize things, for example useing Kokona as a test character for the game core mechanocs was a good idea (poison, drwoning exe...) but she shouldn't have been used for the rival specific elimanation methods (befriending- match makeing, exe...) it would have been quicker to saw them directly on to Osana. He also lost a lot of time on useless but fun feature like the aphabet killer challange or Snap Mode (the alphabete killer challange could have been added later as an extra mode, snap mode could have just been a cutscene). Right now he is spending his time doing neccessary but minor twics to the game, than could easly be done during the time it takes for rivals assets to be delivered. On the other hand, it's understandable from his POV to want to work on the rivals when haveing all the core mechanincs in place, this makes them easyer to implement and they won't need to be twicked later, and YS has now a lot of contet thanks to that. I think his biggest faill it's not haveing found the right ballance berwin working on the rivals and the rest of the game. As I sad the work on the rivals could have started at least a year ago.

It's mostly unintended comedy at this point. I prefer to think of it as more of a meme than anything else, though.

This game made a huge impact on fandom by making people think yandere = emotionless and dull as tar, thus killing an entire romantic archetype's validity in the eyes of the English-speaking internet. In the 9 years it has spent languishing in various states of broken incompleteness, it has taken the yandere idea from a little-known but mostly neutral psychological horror trope to "that cringe thing edgy kids were into in middle school". Even if the game never comes out, it's gotten a lot of people to hate a character archetype while also never portraying that archetype in the first place (dere means loving or soft and Ayano is neither). The charitable part of me wants to pretend it's good that he's still trying. The more honest part of me knows that the legacy of this non-game is going to be "yanderes are stoic stabby people" and actually good, well-written media with yandere characters in them aren't going to be given a fair chance as a result.
