I've been listening to Jeff since 1979 and still listen to him. Too bad people can't appreciate absolutely fabulous jazz fusion.

Yes! Finally getting to the good stuff. I first saw Lorber in a little club in NY in 1977. So much good music coming out around that time in the fusion world. I hope you get to some more of this!

His style of playing sounds very familiar. I wonder who he has played with over his career. It’s a wonderful sound. Great stuff Michael. 🌺✌️

I had the pleasure of hearing him in the student lounge at Mt. Hood community college on a Wednesday afternoon back in '77. Maybe 50 people hanging out there. Incredible.

That drummer was musical as all get out! My mind went back to a moment I can never take for granted. I saw Max Roach and his group at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. At one point, the musicians all disappeared off of the stage, all except Max. He stood up, grabbed the high hat from his kit, came to front and center stage... and proceeded to do a solo with nothing but 2 drumsticks and the high hat and sometimes it was just one drumstick and his opposite hand. He got sounds out of everything but the rubber feet. When I'm blessed by enjoying mastery and musicianship on that level, I can't help but feel very, very loved.

The first time Jeff and the band he had then were about to play at the jazz club in town i asked my brother if he wanted to join. He couldn't make up his mind wether he should go or not despite me telling him you don't wanna miss this! On the day for the concert he said he wouldn't make it was too tired or whatever! Anyway on the evening for the concert day he called me when i was on my way to the club. He said he would meet me outside! He didn't regret going there and was blown away by the sax player and wondered why he had never heard of him! When he mentions this concert he says that i, more or less, dragged him there! Jeff is a great live act if he comes to London you don't wanna miss seeing/hearing him live!

Well isn’t this a pleasant surprise! Reminds me of some of the stellar bands I saw years ago at the Newport Jazz Festival. For sure would be in same category with Weather Report, Return To Forever, or Mahavishnu Orchestra. But thanks to whoever recommended this! How did I miss this band? That drummer… Billy Cobham got nothing on him. Great stuff.

I believe the drummer is Sonny Emory who was Earth Wind & Fire's drummer for along time. Sonny is highly regarded. This was a great jam and fantastic musicians!!! PS: the keyboard intro was beautiful.

Jeff Lorber is a killer keyboard player. I first checked him out on his 1979 album Water Sign. He has some killer tracks. I wholeheartedly recommend jumping into the Jazz Fusion rabbit hole. This won't get as many 'likes' as some of your other videos, because the thundering heard doesn't appreciate or understand jazz, which is a damn shame.

First rate music! Outstanding and thank you for being sparse with the interjections so that the music could transport us as it should! For your listening pleasure, I offer you a couple more ideas in a similar vein. For whatever reason, this made my mind go to the master of blues/jazz organ... Jimmy Smith. There are also some wonderful musicians who have taken up torch and carried on, Barbara Dennerlein and Rhoda Scott. Here's a wonderful option from Jimmy Smith. The video is entitled "JIMMY SMITH TRIO - Organ Grinder's Swing France 1969, HD" and it's on the channel "Christina Harvey". My favorite one with Barbara Dennerlein and Rhoda Scott is a video entitled "Barbara Dennerlein & Rhoda Scott on Hammond B3 Organ" and is on the channel "hans1970". Thanks for sharing and I hope I've returned the favor a little.

I saw the Jeff Lorber Fusion a coupla times in the late 70s here in Portland, OR where they were based then, and they were as monstrous then as they apparently still are now. Wow! That snappy Rhodes piano sound, he plays so well! Some other JLF songs: "Swing Funk" "Rain Dance" "Spur Of the Moment" "Toad's Place" "Magic Lady" "City" "Proteus"(with Chick Corea playing a Moog!) "Tune 88" (more)
