Love your new space-happy that I am not the only one who has multiple leftovers 🤦🏻♀️ I pretty much switch between audiobooks and podcasts while knitting!🧶
For the Loft look at Schneeflocken, I love that pattern. The embroidered mittens sound like a great project, and different.Silas Marner, P.G.Wodehouse and Jane Austen..... My dad's favorite Dickens was Bleak House, I never finished it though.
I love all creatures great and small( and the sweaters are really cool in this new one) , Tana French - The Trespasser is my book Im listening to. And Smartness Episoes . Love Tiny Desk Knitting.
I just downloaded Middlemarch to my audible account. I think that is one of the classics I missed! I love to watch knitting and Buddhist podcasts while I knit. Jane Austen movies, and listen to audible books. I also regularly knit with a dear friend who loves in Canada while I live in Western Massachusetts (close to Webs). ♥️🐑♥️🐑♥️. Your space looks great!
@@barnabyknits I’m sure I will. I spent my 20s as a young mom ready the classics. I loved it! I would pick an author and read everything they had written in order. My favorite was…Jane Austen and still is! 💕
I'm not a good enough knitter to watch scripted TV or movies when I knit, but I can definitely knit to sports (the Australian Open is my evening knitting soundtrack this week). As for movies, I highly recommend "Anatomy of a Fall" if you can handle subtitles while knitting. Besides being a terrifically-acted drama/suspense movie, there is some incredible knitwear (this year's Banshees of Inisherin?).
With the traditional, adjust her every time you move her. Notorious for Ashfords. If you intermittently spin, adjust every time. Also, the MOA and maidens. 🙃 I keep Julia covered when not in use as well. We have lots of dust that comes in when high winds, hence the cover.
Really enjoyed your video today. It is great that your room is taking shape and that you are able to store your yarn in a manageable way. Love that yarn that you have just spun. It is just my colours and I would love to buy it from you when you come to the UK later this year. Reading is one of my passions too. Have you read any Thomas Hardy? At night as I go to sleep I listen to familiar stories such as those by Agatha Christie. On tv recently they aired the Pride and Prejudice with Colin Firth and I enjoyed watching it again. 🇬🇧
Thanks Elaine!! I will keep these skeins with you in mind, then. I have only read Tess of the D'Urbervilles but I would like to read more Hardy. I LOVE the Colin Firth P&P too!!
Reading rec: The Wolf Hall Trilogy by Hilary Mantel - audiobook version. These three books follow the life of Thomas Cromwell, advisor to Henry VIII. Listening to them was a totally immersive and transportive experience for me. English history, gorgeous writing, long and dense - right up your alley. 😊
Good 🌇, I always look forward to your detailed podcast. Your fantastic attitude towards different projects makes even beginners like myself dive in and try. Any projects such as sweaters for me to knit? I put my 🧦 yarn in a plastic bag w/pattern, as you want to knit one pair a month.
I love that you are diving into socks!! For sweaters as a beginner I would recommend the Vanilla Sweater from The Woolly Thistle - it comes with a course so that you can follow along and learn! thewoollythistle.com/collections/courses/products/knit-the-vanilla-sweater-course
I switch btw tv, podcasts/youtube (just got into these tho), and audiobooks on Libby. This year I listened & read a lot and loved Hamnet, Marriage Portrait, I Am I Am I Am all by Maggie O’Farrel, The Bell Jar, and Circe. I also really like mysteries (Ruth Galloway series & well as the Shetland books). But Kristin Lavransdatter series is a longtime favorite classic-have you read them?
Forgot to add we have been enjoying the show Julia on Max abt Julia Childs (played by Sarah Lancashire who is right up there with Olivia Coleman in my book!) And 3 podcasts I really like are Fiber Tales ua-cam.com/video/rkEVwroiOc0/v-deo.htmlsi=Cr_Z-3ahAcCiP7Iy It Is a Sarah ua-cam.com/video/h_MRjq4zfEg/v-deo.htmlsi=i5WWp5rO8NWmHXFd And Green Bean Podcast (especially her series on her hike!) she knits, sews, illustrates ua-cam.com/video/4KMBB9FJ66k/v-deo.htmlsi=X6UhqlxKJeMDvCIG
Barchester Towers by Anthony Trollope! And for my money, War and Peace is a far better book than Anna K. Apparently I'm full of opinions today, because now I will add my husband and I were a house divided for grad school between Cal and Stanford and I say go to the program with a better academic fit and stipend (but also: go Bears). Love the knitting and spinning (and the yarn shelf behind you). More fave books to read while knitting: large hardbacks I can prop open (see: War and Peace, Moby Dick, The Count of Monte Cristo, etc. Seasons of Storm and Wonder by Jim Crumley is my current knitting read)
Amazing suggestions all around! I also picked the program with the best academic fit and stipend but I do sometimes wonder if I would've been happier or stayed in academia if I'd made a different choice. But I don't regret the way things turned out! I've never read a book whilst knitting - perhaps I need a book stand! I used to knit while I read digital articles in grad school, though 😂
Emma it was so wonderful to meet you and talk yarn! Thank you so much for your kind words about Avenue Yarns.
It was so nice to meet YOU!! Yarny conversations always fill my soul. Thanks for keeping this community going.
“Vera” or “Shetland “plus knitting or crocheting are the perfect combination for me.
Love the sweater you are wearing
Thank you so much! I love this one too.
Love your new space-happy that I am not the only one who has multiple leftovers 🤦🏻♀️ I pretty much switch between audiobooks and podcasts while knitting!🧶
I'm sure it exists already, but I would love to start a ravelry group exclusively about how to use leftovers!

Oh these are great suggestions! I love All Creatures too - I haven't started watching Season 4 yet but it's such a wonderful show.

Oh, great tip! I will check that out. I can do subtitles as long as the knitting is vanilla and the screen is right in my lap 😂
I’m a huge Trollope fan and have just finished the Barsetshire Chronicles series! It’s been cool discovering him over the last year.
Love to hear this! My mom loves Anthony Trollope. I'll have to check out those books.

When I knit I watch HGTV, used too watch Magnolia channel. We call it Stupervision, enjoyable don't necessarily have to pay attention to the show.
That is quite brilliant. I love the idea of not having to pay attention at all times! Sometimes I have to count stitches of course!
When are you coming to the UK? Scottish Yarn Producers Showcase is Saturday 23rd March. Just saying...
Oh no! I will be there on the following week but I have to leave on the 23rd :(
