I took a break from knitting for many years because I was living in tropical climates, and then went back to a cold climate for about a year and picked it up again. Then Covid hit, life, everything else and I didn’t touch it. I just had hip replacement and wanted to find something else besides sewing to do during recovery since I couldn’t really set up by my machine for a while and bam! Back to knitting. Found a whole bunch of yarn and have been working through it. Everything from garter stitch Scholl to get my finger back in shape all the way back to fair isle cap, I’m looking at getting back into Icelandic knitting which I did a lot of in my 20s and 30s and was raised doing. I am so happy I ran into your channel!

Avoid using “like” constantly

I love your new fair isle sweater. What are your favorite yarn stores in Toronto? I live in NC but my daughter lives in Toronto, so I spend a lot of time there. I usually go to The Knitting Loft, because it is closest and easy to get to, and it's a great shop. But always interested visiting shops that are new to me. Great episode. Please do take care of yourself, you do Sooooo much.

Do yourself a favour, if you enjoy eating a lot of rice ; buy a Zojirushi rice cooker. They are compact and will last you forever. Cooks rice and stays warm for 12 hours. You will not regret it! (Pick one up at Yorkdale during your trip….cheap for you in Canadian dollars…). Enjoy your trip to TO. (I am in Guelph). ~

Your baby cardigan is beautiful! Emma, but I don't understand why you feel compelled to do so much at once: student, employee (for two jobs, it sounds like), prepping for a marathon, chorus, church, and who knows what else. You look and sound exhausted and it seems like a great way to get sick (at the worst) and suck the joy out of life. Please take care.

Your sweater looks wonderful. I'm looking for a steeked v neck Fair Isle vest pattern with a traditional fit- any ideas? Like your sweater but sleeveless. I found a couple that are no longer available, including a Meg Swanson design, apparently oop. Right now I am making my second pair of socks, this one with an afterthought heel- I LOVE it! I used the second end to make the heel while still working the leg, so I can use up all the skein without guessing about the amount to reserve for the heel.I'm making socks because, like you, I have more sweaters than I need. I recommend an old Gene Hackman/ Ed Harris movie, Absolute Power, it's really good with many cameos by great actors. Good for election season....

Seriously try the artisan pasta from Guardian Grains. It’s delicious. Also, their flour is so tasty if you bake.

maybe you could do a temperature sock with the sock yarn scraps. I think that's what it's called --pick a color and assign it a temperature range, then every day knit the temperature stripe

Great to watch your video this afternoon. So sorry about Hobbs, I hope he mends quickly. Lovely to see all your knitting progress and plans. Little Women and the 3 books in the series were one of my favourites as a child. Also I read all the Anne of Green Gables books and the 3 Katy books but another favourite is Daddylong Legs by Jean Webster. It is great as an older adult to go back and reread these great stories. So glad that you are keeping your music as a relaxing outlet. Music needs to be fun. 🇬🇧

Emma, I'm so sorry about Hobbs' surgery. I have an 8-year-old border collie who had that surgery a couple of years ago. Just wanted to encourage him to get as much rest as possible (I had 3 dogs at the time, and it was a challenge to keep him still). A year later, they did surgery to fix whatever he had undone somehow. Felt so badly for him, b/c he just didn't want to be still, and my husband and other dogs didn't work hard at it. However, second time was good. Also, we were told at the first surgery he probably would need surgery on the other leg for same thing (ACL), but we had him rest so much with two surgeries that he allowed his leg to heal. It probably wasn't as bad, either. But it's not 100% that they need the second leg. I will be thinking of him and your folks. LOVE that he's getting walks in the stroller. One of my favorite dog stories is where the woman had an older dog (small bull dog of some kind) who had chased and barked at the UPS truck his whole life. When he got old, he couldn't physically do it, so his owner put him in a stroller and would run after the truck, the dog barking as hard as he could. The story ends, "That's what love looks like if you've forgotten." We lost our 14-year-old girl bc this past Friday, so I'm tender to dogs and dog stories right now. But I hope Hobbs heals well, fully, and quickly. As usual, thank you for your knitting information and inspiration. You have taught me a ton--though I must say, I have spent quite a bit at The Woolly Thistle I likely would not have had you not sent me their way. :) So, really, thank you for that as well. Rest up for your running. Till my feet gave out, I was a runner--not your league, but it is a good feeling. B well.

I do small batches of raw all the time. Homemade tools: skirting table, combs, hackle, blending board. Since I have a drum carder, and fine combs. I also love the process. Fiber Arts offer many ways to play in different ways, so you don't get bored.

I'm watching and not knitting- a few less than satisfactory projects recently that require me to get inspired/motivated. What I want to do is start something new but gave myself permission after ONE of my iffy knits is done- either completed or frogged. Having a limited number of needles imposes discipline of a sort.
