@Rim Elasri Why does a youtube channel have to be useful? There are loads of vlog channels and gaming channels that literally do nothing for the person but entertain! If you really want that, go look for it rather than complain and try to bully someone into doing something you want.
you are an absolute doll. I wish I could convince my granddaughter to write letters or use my typewriter. Your sense of style is amazing - So vintage inspired! I have hit subscribe and will be following you for inspiration. Never lose your sense of wonder and fulfillment or your Uniqueness. Have a Blessed day!
Hey Ruby! I have a tip for your typewriter; instead of pressing the spacebar many times, to center the carriage you can use the little silver lever on right, next to where you put paper (it's called carriage release). Hope this helps :)
Such a beautiful space! Have you ever considered starting a commonplace book? I've been writing mine for the past couple of years and I love it! Mine is a sort of literary scrapbook where I write down quotes or anything interesting or beautiful that I've read. It's a kaleidoscope of knowledge essentially, and the longer I've kept it, the more and more it looks like the inside of my own head. There's no wrong way to keep a commonplace book and each one is as unique as the person writing it!
I love how much you repurpose old boxes and things for storage! Also, that was an excellent call by your dad to save the desk from destruction. Such a well-made desk! Why destroy it?
Your writing desk is lovely!! I have my mother's childhood desk from the 1940s (although it may be older -- it had over a dozen layers of paint before it was refinished) that flips down to form the table. The inside is full of cubbies for all of my bottles of fountain pen and calligraphy inks, and my fountain pen materials are all in a large tin with a Paris cityscape on the lid. I also have my daily journal in there, plus my wax seals and sealing materials, my dip pens, my drawing pens, and a couple of fountain pens (although the majority of my fountain pens and quills are on my work desk, handmade in natural pine by my husband for our daughter who wanted a different desk). On the top of my writing desk is a small wooden clock that I bought in Cambridge on my only trip to the UK in 1988 (after college graduation), a white china vase filled with dried flowers, an antique pewter candlestick with snuffer, a quill & bottled ink set, a small wooden crucifix that a friend who visited Jerusalem brought back for me, a small bust of Shakespeare, and my wooden pen rest and inkstand (with a glass inkwell) for my oblique calligraphy pen which is fashioned from mahogany set with mother-of-pearl. My writing desk also came with a matching chair, and my mother stripped all of the layers of paint off the desk & chair when I was a teen (about 40 years ago now); it's oak with a medium/darker stain and the grain is gorgeous!! My writing desk is very my favorite piece of furniture, and I use it several times each day for writing letters, journaling, and learning copperplate calligraphy. Here's to desks devoted to writing!! :D
Ruby you’re truly an INFJ! You do everything with deep thoughtfulness and imagination. I’m an INFJ also and when I was a little girl I created a special little nook for myself inside my clothes closet where I wrote letters and kept my collection of books and writing paper and favorite quotes and clippings. I’m 55 now and have a cozy room of my own in our home where I will often retreat to recharge, rest and ruminate. I will often look through my box of memories and old photos and write letters and light a candle and read books. My hope for you is that like me, you never lose this cozy and lovely sensibility as it will stand you in good stead in life! 🥰 All my best to you Ruby.
ruby, ruby, ruby. i love the vibe your videos provide, its incredibly cozy and its a fuzzy comforting feeling. i am so grateful to have found your channel, you feel like a long lost friend, and although we dont have much in common, i do really enjoy your content. its made me look into things in a new perspective, so thank you ruby :D p.s i love the new desk setup, and i couldn't help but notice your outro tune have been replaced by a piano version! its lovely :)
It's so beautiful! Why didn't I think of having two separate desks/areas, one for the electronic stuff and one for writing? It makes so much sense! Thank you, also, for keeping alive the art of letter writing and writing by hand at all. I've heard that many people don't even know how to write in cursive anymore because it's not taught? I don't even want to look it up because it makes me sad. Growing up, I used to always be complimented on my penmanship. I even took calligraphy in high school and (eventually) got good enough to do wedding invitations for friends, certificates for church, etc. But honestly, in the past 15-20 years I haven't had much need to write at all. Even when I was working full time in an office, everyone had voicemail and there was no need to write much of anything other than once in a while a Post It Note on someone's desk. And because I now type constantly for my job, I can't really even journal by hand anymore. My mind/words go at typing speed, not at hand writing speed. My penmanship has become awful. I love this so much!
I actually have 3 in my office: 1) computer center with phone & filing cabinets and storage cubicles, 2) desk with hutch for planning and writing, 3) conference table for Bible reading, Bible journaling, coloring, stamping, and drawing. tfs!
@@nuvoclassic Makes sense! If I ever have my own space again, I will have reorganize. Right now my kitchen table is so full of books that I rarely even eat there, LOL!
This was so lovely to watch, I can't believe how a little desk can hold so much inside it!! I love thinking about all the people that used it since the 1950s... And I love the old typewriter too 🙂
This came in perfect timing! I'm decorating my new house and want to have an old fashioned feel to it, and this gave me lots of inspiration. Could you do an updated room tour as well, because it looks much more vintage than last time.
Hello Ruby. I follow you for years and you have a such a good vibe. When i watching you, you remind me a few years ago. (i was always watching you) I remind i was recommend your channel to all of my old classmates. These days was fun. Probably you are getting so much comments like this but i just want yo say I love you and your channel so much. You are inspired me so much ❤️🌼 love you I hope you have the life you want 🤍
Is it just me, or did anyone else feel calm throughout the video. I post videos myself and thrive to give this calm feeling to my viewers one day. Thanks for this Ruby!
Hello Ruby! A really lovely desk! Really makes me feel like being productive! Could u perhaps do a video on how to annotate books/or how you annotate books
Everything's beautiful and special. Love that you try to make your space meaningful and yours in every possible way. Loved the academic planner! Glad I ordered one. X
Oh my ... seeing all that antique stuff feels like a time travel. Sometimes I think about buying an old fashioned typewriter. Maybe I'll do that when I'm really old.
Not something that interests me personally, but love the way you produced it with music, editing and voiceover that I found it so relaxing and inspiring. All the best~🙏🏻
hello ruby. at 16 min I noticed that the candle is possibly too close to that paper decorative star, I am sure you are super cautious re this kind of this. but what if you change the position of the paper star for safety reasons...?
Hi Ruby, can you please do a video in which you recite some of your favorite quotes in literature, maybe arranged thematically or so ? Would love this so much!
I have a letter writing portfolio too! It's purple suede, and my mum and dad gave me it when I was about 13. They knew me so well! Just a suggestion for your address book; write people's names in ink, but their address in pencil, so you can update whenever things change. I love your channel! Xx
In my eyes, it seems a little over-decorated. But that's so okay. I adore how it just beautifully fits your personality and whole identity. It is so heart-warming to watch you being this happy for something that just couldn't be more you. I love it!
If you want to move the carriage return of your typewriter more easily (rather than pressing the keys), there is a lever you lift which allows for free movement.
So delightful. We all need to escape into your world Ruby . I am significantly older than you but love to watch your videos . Can’t wait to see you reach 1 m subscribers. It will be so deserved ☕️☕️☕️
I am SO GLAD you didn’t put too much on top of the desk, I have a desk that opens like that and when I first got it I made the mistake of putting a lot of stuff on top and so the inside was pretty much useless
I would love to receive a letter from you Ruby. To be honest from anyone, I cannot remember the last time I received a letter! Love the desk set up, it beckons you to sit and write 😀
Haven't watched you for quite a few years. I love that you still got that Hermione Vibe and got Harry Potter pictures in your desk. Was there any time in your life were you were not so orderly? Or were you always so "Granger" like?
i love all of your pictures ruby. they are the best. my parents have a type writer. but they never use it. anyhow. i love your pictures and your room tour. it looks very awesome 👍
Love the set up Ruby ❤have you heard how Royal Mail are phasing out the old style stamps to new ones with a barcode? Just a heads up in case they become invalid x
Such a lovely writing set up Ruby. I was wondering if your address book is an actual address book or a notebook you have set up yourself? I have an address book but it’s not beautiful and I’d like to have one that is beautiful. I still write letters and cards so it would be nice to treat myself to something special. Thank you again for this lovely video x such an inspiring young lady. Wish there were videos like this when I was your age in you tube but I never had access to it back then. It was still very new.
I move around in the young contemporary writing circles in my country, many of us get paid and grow by taking editorial/translator jobs with book or magazine publishers, which pays very badly and is very gruelling but you can learn a lot in return (although where I live our degree had as much emphasis on grammar as literary analysis, I don't know how that worked at Exeter). I don't understand why Ruby can't do something similar if she really wants to be a writer. The most important things to know are grammar, syntax, style. That's what everyone who wants to be a writer needs to know. I often get the feeling that she thinks of herself as someone who was born with these "skills", not as something to be acquired.
Hello Ruby, I love this video, well I love all your videos ♡ I was just wondering about the song that plays at 3:33 ... could you tell me the name of it?
Ruby is the perfect example of an "Actually, that was NOT a phase" personality. Love her.
I think it's the Taurus energy. Lol
So true
@Rim Elasri it is not her job to substitute your English teachers
@Rim Elasri innit it’s so performative
