      100% true. Top tier American heavyweights went the way of the dodo for a good few yrs and they were scared of Europe's monopoly on the division. When Wilder finally became champion and could crack too they did everything they could to keep him as the champ and earn the WBC money thru the American fanbase. This man was protected so much that they purposely fudged their own rankings whilst klitschko was champ and beating their top rated fighters just to excuse wilder not fighting him for undisputed. Theirs articles of his camp essentially saying they have no interest in the fight and won't "throw a young fighter to the wolves".
      I like wilder as a person and I'm happy that he and his family can rest comfy after what he's achieved, however, his legacy is piss poor as being one of, if not the most manufactured champ in boxing history. I have a feeling he and tyson fury will enter the Hall of Fame one day and that'll be a sad day for boxing as it is not deserved whatsoever

    Let's not also entirely blame Malik Scott , wilder himself is at fault , listen to what Breland said about wilder , said he's untrainable , once he started KOin bums , he felt he knew more about boxing than anyone else , and Breland was told by Jay deas not to say anything to upset wilder , wilder could turn up in whatever mood at whatever time and choose not to train and nobody could do nothing about it cos they didn't want to get fired , the one time Breland did save his life , he got fired bcos of Wilder's ego . You can only teach someone who wants to learn. Malik Scott is probably not that a good of a coach , but with an attitude like that , there is No coach that is good for wilder.

The standard of competition for the world titles was less than what it is now but by the standards of the time his record was perfectly credible. The Joshua fight didn’t happen (IMO both parties were to blame for that) Klitschko was retired and Fury was out of the sport for a while (and when he returned Wilder was first in line to fight him and was a couple of seconds away from pulling the win off the first time around.) The double-standard for Fury is kinda wild. You can't say he also would've dealt convincingly with Brazeale, Stiverne, Liakhovhich, Ortiz, Helenius and so forth when he went life or death or won questionably against McDermott, Ngannou, Pajkic, Cunningham, which were not more accomplished than Wilder victims. Thats like saying Fury would've gotten at least a bronze medal in the olympics, it's not an assumption he earned.
    Aside from Fury winning the rivalry their resumes are comparable with Wilder having a big advantage in quantity and Fury having the Klitschko win. Fury did not do any better against top 10-20 ranked guys than Wilder and was more inconsistent. A knockdown and a controversial SD against a 38-year old debutant is WAY more embarassing than any of Wilders losses.

They should have fought for undisputed but Wilder rejected multiple career high paydays and called it slave wages and then rejected 120 million from dazn!! But they should have fought each other on the day of reckoning card. I’ve got a feeling that AJ Vs Fury won’t ever happen either.

    Fairplay to Wilder for achieving what he did, coming late in to boxing with limited skill and fighting to secure his kids future, boxing was a better, more exciting place with him in it but I can’t help but think that he only has himself to blame in not securing his legacy with a refusal to work on his boxing IQ and just rely on one punch KO’s. A shame really, he could have been unbeatable with the right attitude.

Stiverne & Breazeale & Helenius are average but not bums, especially Helenius. Actually nobody who steps in that Ring should be called a bum IMO. I’d call for some baseline fucking respect for these boxers. It is obvious that in comparative terms Wilder’s record isn’t that strong, he did dodge some fights, and the people we usually discuss are notably better at him. However to badmouth a boxer probably retiring is pretty fucking vile in my opinion.
    The list of active boxer better than Wilder is still pretty damn short: in the sense that wast majority of the people talking shit probably are not part of said list.
    The idea that ”anyone” could go and get knocked out is flat out wrong. It’s good to remember that all professional heavyweight boxers you see in a ppv stream throw punches that, for most of us, are best compared car crashes. ”Weak chin” in that context is still freakishly strong. So the average fans chin isn’t glass, it’s a flake of dried paint.
    Out of the ones still is convinced they would go for this opportunity, wast majority are simply not given the privilege. They are nowhere good enough boxer to get to that side of the ring. The fact Wilder got there is something wast amount of boxers will never reach.
    He didn’t simply ”show up” and have others raise some marketing BS to provide better life for his daughter. He became one of the best boxers in the world. Doesn’t matter if you think he is top 20 or top 50 that’s still a monumental achievement.
    He was in great shape, beat the count after taking the worst punches humanity has to offer, and knocked out many who had worked their ass off day after day. He chose a hard ass route to walk for the sake of his daughter, because that was likely the only route he had even a chance to walk through to earn that kind of money.
    And he did walk that route. He trained his body, trained his mind, and reached a level most of the few who even dare to attempt will never succeed in reaching. He did something very near impossible to provide for his daughter.
    It is reasonable to point out the baseless hype around him, his padded record and the level of fighters he never managed to beat. But to speak as if this guy just got lucky or was a fraud just make you sound like a gigantic asshole.
    Could everyone at least recognise he was a professional athlete? Literally one of the best in the world. Something so many kids dream of, yet only select few adults can ever be. Going to work for your daughter is admirable, but it’s nothing like what Wilder did.

    In a boxing tierlist the likes of ali and lewis are tier 1.
    The likes of klitschko are tier 2.
    The likes of fury are tier 3.
    The likes of wilder are tier 4.
    Wilder's opponents are way below tier 5 for the majority of his career. Got a present of a draw v fury then got shown up. He only took fury cos he was 2 years on the couch and thought it would be another easy win.
    Who has fury really beat besides an old klitschko? Chisora 3 times? 😂
    Aj, love him or hate him, at least he fought everyone who would fight him.
    Heavyweight boxing was poor when klitschko was around. He was above everyone, amd it maxe it boring. This era has been of poorer quality than every era besides the klistchko era but they would have had an exciting era regardless if they had all fought eachother in their primes.
    Overall, worse era of heavyweight boxing imo. Could't wait to see the back of wilder and fury. Hopefully heavyweight boxing can recover and we see the top fighters actually fight eachother.
    Fights we never saw...
    Fury v aj
    Aj v wilder
    Name another generation where the supposed top 3 fighters never laid a glove on eachother until they were past their primes!?! Absolute joke of an era... and they earned way more than any other era. Boxing fans allowed this to happen by buying into fury v chisora 3 etc. Recently been "spoiled" by turki? Nah, if you are starving then any decent meal would be amazing, and we have been starved for decades!

    To play devil’s advocate, we need to remember that Joe Louis’ now legendary 25 defenses was littered with tomato cans that famously inspired the phrase The Bum of the Month Club. Wilder in the immediate aftermath of these losses is being called out for not being a great champion, but I think that KO record will help him be remembered fondly by history much like how most gloss over many of Louis’ questionable fights and look instead at the still unbroken streak of 25 defenses.
    Even still, Wilder got Bronze in the Olympics and he was never dishonest about why he was in the sport. It was for his daughter. Maximizing his money was always the aim. I would argue that if we’re measuring based on Wilder’s intentions, then he utterly succeeded and the purses from Fury 1 (one could even argue from Ortiz 1) to his recent loss to Zhang prove that.
    Right now, after such humiliating losses, he’s getting picked apart. But I think Wilder will be remembered fondly retrospectively. He might even end up a Hall of Famer after all is said and done.

    • @michaelkeha
      @michaelkeha Місяць тому

      Thing is Louis also had many wins against stellar opponents and held his own even as he got older it's not that guys like Louis had bums on their record it's that they actually fought and beat talented boxers when push comes to shove, Wilder has not he is a cult of sports science product that can only beat other cult of sports science products and he falls apart against anyone with even an ounce of actual ring IQ I say an ounce cause even the guys that did beat him or were clattering him before he got lucky with a wild swing are not on what should be the level of technical skill and physical ability for the premiere divison of boxing

    • @hewhoshallnotbenamed5168
      @hewhoshallnotbenamed5168 Місяць тому +1

      The difference with Louis is that he fought EVERYONE and beat most of them. Not disagreeing on Wilder not being what he’s advertised. What I am saying is that boxing is notoriously nostalgic. People remember records more fondly than in the present. Both Klitschkos were called boring, but are looked at more positively as we get farther away from their era. Larry Holmes wasn’t exciting enough. Bowe and Holyfield were bums for never facing each other. I think Wilder is going to be remembered more fondly as the career gets further in the rearview.

It’s when they make a step up in quality their opponents are tougher with better chins so knockouts are less frequent. This is Wilder, he’s been knocking out bums but when he finally fought worthy opponents he’s been found out.
