I don’t listen to many podcasts but I always come here every time I see the notification. Great job lads!
F#cking love James Toney, one of my favourite fighters, always entertaining in interviews which is why this should be taken with a grain of salt. The relaxed demeanour of Toney in the ring was so entertaining to watch (holyfield was amazing) a boxer today who is similarly relaxed is Louis Alberto Lopez
You can't take James toney seriously, and come on John Aj was on a rebuild so the level of opponents were perfectly fine, with Franklin, then helenius was a days notice replacement. And before the fight Wallin was top 10. Then all of a sudden AJ makes it look easy and everyone forgets what they said before the fight
I love the idea of a big year-long tournament in every weight class, every years, and gawd bless Alalshikh for . . . even just the prospect. There'll be complications, controversies, and complaints, but it would still be a million times better than what we've had for the past couple generations or so.
You could use the belts like divisions in other sports leagues. Like have 4 "divisions" and the division winners fight for unification. But that's pretty similar to how it is now...
You're underselling Usyk with that comment.. massively. Did you know Ali is one inch taller than Usyk? I'd take Usyk over Ali too. Yeah sue me. I do. And a prime Tyson, the Kevin Rooney cus d'mato version puts Ali in a coma.
@Rosseboi Usyk is physically bigger than Ali, but I believe as you do he would beat Ali. What everyone forgets about that time frame is the Soviet Block fighters were pretty much iced out from pro boxing. It might have turned out entirely different, but we will never know. Mike Tyson was awesome but would he have beat prime Holmes? Lots of things to ponder. If there was a Soviet Block situation right now there would not be a Bivol, Betterbiev, Usyk, Loma and others.
The thing about there only being one belt and holding up divisions doesn't make sense really. It's already happening now, they even mention Inoue, someone else having a belt doesn't mean anything because the only reason they have is because they haven't fought him yet. Great pod as always.
Put it this way, if a fighter isn't African American then James Toney considers them a bum by default. He once called Chris Eubank Snr, Nigel Benn and Steve Collins "bums", he now says Canelo is a "bum" too.
Seriously I am not the biggest AJ fan but he is way more credible with his fights than pretty much anybody but Usyk in the modern era. Compared from any of the other pretenders/contenders he at 😊least has walked the walk. What a bunch of muppets.
I think itd be neat to keep the belts outside the tournament for seeding purposes, and have toury belt be the most important. Maybe thatll get rid of the one loss ruins a career narrative and make fighters stop padding

What Toney means is "Fight Americans in the US." Just like they're doing with Inoue, Americans pretend nothing a fighter does counts unless it's in the states. They just don't respect anyone else.
Usyk and Parker has the best recent wins of any HW, Parker deserves title shots after what he’s done. James Tony used to be a defensive and offensive wizard in his prime.
In all fairness you need a old timer like JT to talk some shit cause the division needs to hear it. If it wasn't for a Saudi Billionaire that has an interest in boxing the majority if fights over the kast 3 years wouldn't have happened. JT doesn't follow the division in detail, it more like a general wave your hand and saying "fuck all this."
We have to remember AJ had to have rebuilding fights after two bad losses and depression that he suffered from losing his title , Any boxer would have to be rebuilt in his confidence to some degree , AJ had a couple of warm up fights , so what ?? One of his warm up fights was a legitimate challenger for Wilder ! In Helenius, its ok for Wilder but AJ got slagged off ??
Maybe boxing could do tournaments kinda like the MMA promotion Pride in Japan? They had weight classes and divisions like the UFC and boxing but also had these tournaments where loads of people from the same weight class fought one another regardless of their standing in the division and win a tonne of money
I think Joshua should definitely fight DDD. If he wins and become IBF Interim champion he should quickly take out Charr to pick up the WBA regular belt. Then go for Parker and the WBO Belt. That would make him mandatory with 3 of the bodies and he’s ranked 1 by WBC. So he would will get garenteed a title shot
I mean, Turki's idea is basically a big super series with all belts in one (somewhat bringing the NBA back once again, before the split)? Sounds good, actually.
Hey propa i hate the sound if tge league. Sounds like a monopoly luke the bew york boxing club that will circumvent the Ali act since its in Saudi and ultimately lead to much worse conditions for the fighters. Id recommend looking at what john s nash has to say about it and hes abit of an expert in the finances in boxing and ufc
I think they should fight more frequently. They used to back in the day, they get paid enough to do it. So if they do go down this route, they just fight more often, and stop backing out.
Fury’s resume is from a time where Whyte, Aj and a bunch of other HWs weren’t even pro boxers. But AJ, there Povetkin (who’s been past it for years) Pulev (who has been past it for years) Vlad (in his 40s and was well past it) Takam (who tf is Takam?) Parker win was good, Whyte win was good, Franklin (a fat middle weight) Francis (an 0-1 boxer) and I could go on. No HW, outside of Usyk, has a good resume today. The only reason Usyk does is because of the fact he’s had two divisions to pick from and he’s a gangster.
Jesus Christ I thought that was Martin Bakole in the thumbnail at first... In Mr. Toneys defense hes been punched in the head a tremendous amount of times...
I am a wilder fan, what AJ has done in his rebuild, is absolutely spot on, wish Wilder had done the same, if think the DDD is due to what may or may not happen with the IBF belt
Dylan Whyte was and had been the number one contender for years, Wilder blatantly avoided him, some pundits even picked him to be beat Fury. Fury nullified him and knocked him out and now he's used as a reason to knock Fury. "Only fighting bums like Whyte and Chisora" etc.. Must be frustrating going into a fight where people are saying this is dangerous like Aj Ngannou then when you knock him out you have the same people say "ah well he was no good"
Aj is a bigger better more experienced powerful version of francis and we seen what Francis did to fury ! and what aj did to francis so IMAGINE WTF AJ WOULD DO TO FURY ….and fury knows there would of been no big Saudi paydays after it so he’s deliberately left aj till the very very last option because after that fight there is no more fury the beating will be that monumental
James Tony was an awsome fighter at his lighter weights and is a true legend when it comes to boxing and living the life of a fighter. But if this his go at getting a payday with Joshua then I would think his time has passed.
I guess if you think about it, 10+ years as a pro the only elite of his generation he managed to face was Usyk who he lost to. Usyk has bigger heavyweight wins on his resume after 3 years.

All AJ ever need was the right trainer/coach with the acumen to bring the best out of him. AJ has the best resume out of any current heavyweight by far. Parker, Vladimir, Povetkin (when he was dangerous), Ruiz, Whyte etc. Really speaks for itself. Fury and especially Wilder haven’t got that many great names in comparison.
Just wanna also say I hope you guys carry on this podcast, the chemistry is fantastic.
Amen
I'm partial to *TOIN COSS* 😂
Wallin was IBF #1 or #2 eliminator, Wallinin and Ngauaunno gave Fury big trouble
It truly is a Toin Coss.
The only thing I can think of to increase the amount of annual fights is to reduce the rounds in a fight
Everyone waking up to the fact the current heavyweight division is crap, especially since Oleksander Usyk has cleared it up!
Everyone says that about every era since the 90s.. & even then lewis was laughed & ridiculed 😂.. shudda heard what they said about Holmes!
Yeah ur right it's hard to disguinguish the hype from the reality now until it's too late
@@vacayooper4728 spot on! Very well said!
The thing about there only being one belt and holding up divisions doesn't make sense really.
It's already happening now, they even mention Inoue, someone else having a belt doesn't mean anything because the only reason they have is because they haven't fought him yet.
Great pod as always.
Joshua has the best resume in the heavyweight division.
Happy New Year guys
Aj isn’t a champion, he can fight who he wants.. he isn’t holding the division up..
I don't think James Tony even knows who joshua is. Probably got him mixed up with someone else
Put it this way, if a fighter isn't African American then James Toney considers them a bum by default. He once called Chris Eubank Snr, Nigel Benn and Steve Collins "bums", he now says Canelo is a "bum" too.
@@davidmccann9811 yhh u right Americans in general don't give our boxers there credit while hyping up there own
AJ has a great resume.
Turkey has seen brewsters millions to many times 😂
Mate lost some respect when he said he loves Dubois
Seriously I am not the biggest AJ fan but he is way more credible with his fights than pretty much anybody but Usyk in the modern era. Compared from any of the other pretenders/contenders he at 😊least has walked the walk. What a bunch of muppets.
He fought Usyk twice! Last I checked he is undefeated and unified Heavyweight Champ of the world.
I love daniels dad too was class 😂
They were all somebodies before Joshua got a hold of them
I think itd be neat to keep the belts outside the tournament for seeding purposes, and have toury belt be the most important. Maybe thatll get rid of the one loss ruins a career narrative and make fighters stop padding
If AJ hasn't fought anyone of note what does they say about the rest of the division Fury included
It says that they soft....a middleweight cleaned out that division...embarrassing 4 them big 4 nothing bums
@@mrtomas0990 🤣🤣 a 220 middleweight ya melt

You ment to say every body lol
Joshua ducked Wilder, Fury and his WBA mandatory Luis Ortiz. He ducked his WBO mandatory Usyk for 2 years until Usyk's lackluster performance against Chisora. Now he's trying to run from Daniel Dubois😂
@@Anthony.Joshua-s_Irish_Grandma if you look at Fury's boxrec his last opponents before Usyk 😂 Wilder(3) Whyte and Chisora (3) that's a padded record
@@Anthony.Joshua-s_Irish_Grandma Ortiz is mad old nobody cares Wilder didn’t want the smoke. And Fury made out he did but really was just playing the media !
@@iffysd9864Whyte knocked out Anthony Joshua's opponents like Povetkin and beat Joseph Parker. Chisora knocked out AJ's opponents Takam and beat Pulev, got robbed against Joseph Parker in the first fight😂
Anthony Joshua was ordered to fight Chisora for the European title in 2016 but Joshua declined😂
Thing is re the Ngannou fight, if Toney wants to criticize AJ for that, AJ had to right the wrong done to boxing...Ngannou, the man that knocked Fury down and likely won the damn fight...AJ did boxing in general a massive service beating Ngannou...Actually, one of the most important fights for boxing at the time...
What Toney means is "Fight Americans in the US."
Just like they're doing with Inoue, Americans pretend nothing a fighter does counts unless it's in the states.
We have to remember AJ had to have rebuilding fights after two bad losses and depression that he suffered from losing his title ,
Any boxer would have to be rebuilt in his confidence to some degree , AJ had a couple of warm up fights , so what ?? One of his warm up fights was a legitimate challenger for Wilder ! In Helenius, its ok for Wilder but AJ got slagged off ??
Maybe boxing could do tournaments kinda like the MMA promotion Pride in Japan?
They had weight classes and divisions like the UFC and boxing but also had these tournaments where loads of people from the same weight class fought one another regardless of their standing in the division and win a tonne of money
Health care for anyone in the league that signs up to get tested and pass. Fight clean get treated clean.
Clip of a foin 😂
I think Joshua should definitely fight DDD. If he wins and become IBF Interim champion he should quickly take out Charr to pick up the WBA regular belt. Then go for Parker and the WBO Belt. That would make him mandatory with 3 of the bodies and he’s ranked 1 by WBC. So he would will get garenteed a title shot
AJ HAS THE BEST RESUME IN THE HEAVYWEIGHT DIVISION BY A COUNTRY MILE!
No he doesn’t 🤡
League needs same rules as street outlaws!!
I mean, Turki's idea is basically a big super series with all belts in one (somewhat bringing the NBA back once again, before the split)?
Sounds good, actually.
AJ has fought better quality opposition than Fury........................Simplez
You never say good bye at the end it always just stops
Because this is a clip of the podcast, full thing is on Spotify.
James Toney shows he has no idea of the present HW landscape, totally punchdrunk and US biased.
I’d like to see a real crossover with ufc and boxing one day like 4-5 ufc fights and 4-5 boxing matches on the same night.
Not ufc guy vs boxer.
Even if AJ only beat Wallin in over two years it's still more of an achievement than Fury or Wilder has managed in the last two years.
That’s because Fury and Wilder destroyed each other in their third fight, they are both damaged goods
Joshuas resume is second to none in the division so punch drunk Toney needs to think again
Nobody?!?! He fought Usyk twice! AJ has absolutely fought the very best…twice.
Who HASNT AJ fought? Wilder is a crap fighter who AJ would have slept inside 3 rounds. The only guy he hast fought is fury.
AJ is still my favorite. Never gave up on him. I hope he becomes world champion again. Or at least fights Fury and knocks him out.
Aj won’t ever be champ again he lost to king uysk twice aj cheated with low blows and punches to the back of uysk head and still got schooled
Must be frustrating going into a fight where people are saying this is dangerous like Aj Ngannou then when you knock him out you have the same people say "ah well he was no good"
James Toney belly looks like he’s belly’s gonna pop. Toney is a Wally.
His waist measurement these days is greater than his height. He makes Andy Ruiz look skinny.
I guess if you think about it, 10+ years as a pro the only elite of his generation he managed to face was Usyk who he lost to. Usyk has bigger heavyweight wins on his resume after 3 years.
AJ already beat Parker in a world title fight...LOL...
Tony getting mixed up between Wilder, Fury and AJ poor feller.
Great show Lads.
Few things to say.
The 🐘 in the room is 🇺🇸 boxing CAN'T STAND not ruling the HW div. The real boxing fans know wilder wasn't the truth but he paered over the cracks with the highlight KO's (sound like another American stars career?)
They're particularly bitter as the future doesn't look much brighter (Jarad has publicly said he doenst love the game - let's see if Turki/Sugar can change that) for them.
*UNPOPULAR OPINION* AJ's REMATCH with USYK was alot closer/competitive. He rocked him in R9 (Everyone forgets due to the post fight wobbly).
AJ's resume (bar Usyk's) is deep & solid ⏸
He'll have the best CV once all said and done in 10 years looking back.
Catch ya soon 💯❤️🥊
I like this league idea if its done well it could get money shared out better , all the way down to the local abc s that start all the talent off , could really take uk boxing up another level
Is james toney "givin GBH on the earoles" sirs?
Joshua probably has the best resume of any active HW right now. At the time he fought them, hes fought more top 10 fighters than anyone else. The only reason he didnt foght eother Fury or Wilder is bcause they didnt want it.
All AJ ever need was the right trainer/coach with the acumen to bring the best out of him. He has the tools the mindset and the heart, he just needs someone who isnt just trying to line their own pockets telling him he needs 15 fkin geezers to get him right. Ben might just be that guy. I knew those mexicans and yanks were not the ones to train him when they all had a bunch of money making superstars in their stable to split their time between & he needs london culture to identify with and a straight talker, what little ive seen of the chemistry between them looks fkin miles beyond what ive seen between him and anyone else
10:47 we all laughed at this one
I think most boxers would strugglre to beat even some of "Nobody".
