None of your Business it’s all about scale. Get the scale of the detail right and you’ll get a realistic diorama. Everyone likes to use thick, flaky white stuff to replicate snow, but if you shrink snow down to that size it’s really pretty smooth so it’s actually better to use plastic and then stipple it or use some very fine white powder. Also snow is made out of water so it has a clearness to it, a translucency to it. it’s not opaque white, so there’s also that that you have to think about. But again, at that scale, the translucency is reduced. Hahaha. This is what makes dioramas fun and what makes the GOOD ones so realistic!

Turned the video on on my secondary display but found myself watching every second of it with pleasure :D Thanks!
lol that's cool, I'm glad you enjoyed the tutorial. I guess you could spray the model in a similar fashion with a gloss medium to get the rain droplet effect? Lots of ideas to test 😀
This is not a hobby, it is an art form. You are a true artisan. I loved the video. It draws you in all by itself, but the extra, "things to spot" was a genius touch.
The diorama is incredible but the lighting is what really sells the illusion of realism. The shadows are nice and crispy and the light level is spot-on for harsh sunlight.
Watching you videos has inspired me to start building diaroma's. So just to start I purchased 2 of the woodland scenic kits the basic and the water kit I can't wait to start!
In all honesty, I used to think the kind of people who bought model making stuff like this were guys still living in their mum's basement, but after seeing your videos, they've taken my breath away! I now appreciate it as the skilled art that it is!
Hey Luke, you are simply the best! I´m studying architecture and I´ve learnt so many tricks for my models from your videos. I owe you half of my career! Also, as an idea, I would love to see a scene that involved the Rally of Australia. Every time I watch it on TV I wonder how it would be to model these dust clouds. Have a nice day!
awesome I's so happy that I've been able to help with your architecture studies! Dust clouds would definitely be a challenge. I'd need to do a bit of brain storming to figure out how to get the effect... 😀
@u/user2 _ errrrr......Grandpa might be more appropriate. As to WHY? It's moderately entertaining at times, educational at other times, and mostly profoundly irritating
Theres no way I would ever follow your tutorials to do these, I am way too incompetent. However, I love watching you make these, the detail is beautiful.

1: My daughter
2: A horse eating some grass
3: Where’s Wally 3 times

Couldn't even imagine the things i could have made as a kid for my train set and war hammer if these youtube vids were available back then... :O great work!
Oh man, these would have been absolutely amazing for War Hammer!!! Suddenly I feel nostalgic lol
2:41. Nice touch! Caught me by surprise
lol... I couldn't resist 😀
Luke Towan I would love to see some dioramas set over here in England!
Sweeeet move!!! 😂👍 2:42
i think you are the best miniature constructor. 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
It’s 2am and I’m not surprised at all that I ended up here on UA-cam. Some things just never change.
"WoW"... Brilliant Luke. Cheers.
thanks Gareth 😃 glad you liked it
You should make a video showing all of your creations!
it is a blessing to see daughter and father doing something together
Who's looking forward to another amazing video? 🖐🖐🖐🖐this girl
nice 😉 hope you enjoyed watching Timeka
Imagine all these small diorama connects to eachother creating a large one
That's actually the plan for this one. It will have some other dioramas that will connect to the ends 😉
@@BoulderCreekRailroad can't wait to see all of them connected to each other
I would love to see that too.
Daym that will be awsome!
like the marvel cinematic universe
I’m a artist I draw I like making models but my friend this is absolutely incredible it is so realistic I’m only 14 and don’t have these materials to busy with high school etc. But I’m hoping one day I can do one of these tutorials :)
These look so real they don't look like models nice going 👍
24:50 - looks kinda like it rained in the H0 world with those tiny drops on the grass ;) Saw a comment regarding a "rainy" diorama and that would be really cool actually :)
Anyway - what an amazing job on this one, the effect is stunning.
@@BoulderCreekRailroad I woluld LOVE to see a rainy Diorama! A snowy one would be really cool as well!
I really want to see how you would make a model hobbit house .i acknowledge you don’t do fantasy models but I still think it would be so sick
I went to hobbiton in NZ a few years ago 😀 Doing a fantasy model isn't out of the question, I may even do some stuff like that later in the year 😉
@@BoulderCreekRailroad Dude, that would be awesome!! And I have no doubt you could make something that looks amazing, with your skills.
@@BoulderCreekRailroad That would be AMAZING!
Its really satisfying to build interiors in model houses!
I watched this for tips on how to make a muddy creek for my hobbit version of Manassas Battlefield
12:12 Your daughter

27:27 1 Where's Waldo (Wally)
27:37 Horse eating grass
29:21 2 Where's Waldo (Wally)
30:01 3 Where's Waldo (Wally)
That's some.
Cool
What's waldo
This is the only video I got recommended by UA-cam that I don’t hate this is actually satisfying to watch.
When I first saw the thumbnail I thought the left picture was real and the right was the model. That is impressive.
Could you try to make scenery in a city type place i would really like to see what you would make
I bought some medium sized apartment building to build, I might do a city at some point. It's a really big job building high rise buildings!
Concrete Jungle would be great!
@@BoulderCreekRailroad I'd love to see it! I'll stay tuned

This is not a hobby, it is an art form. You are a true artisan. I loved the video. It draws you in all by itself, but the extra, "things to spot" was a genius touch.
You are the most creative guy I ever seen keep it up
William Hope wait a min he's not a woman!?
This scenery looks very northern in my opinion. Just what I needed
cool, I'm glad I've been able to give you some ideas
Who else saw that little bug running
I did
The diorama is incredible but the lighting is what really sells the illusion of realism. The shadows are nice and crispy and the light level is spot-on for harsh sunlight.
I watched it at 1080p,burning around 450 mb....worth it !!!
Did anyone else see that bug a 25:56
ha ha yeah there's been a few people comment on it 😄
Yep, that was an HO scale groundhog.
Lol well love the video
It's not a bug, it's a feature.
Yep, I saw it
I can’t believe how much effort and time you put into these creations!! Super cool and realistic🙂
You're truly a master of your craft sir
Almost no one makes them but still watches....
shut up bitch its expensive to make something of this scale

Dude, your attention to detail is stupendous! Not just in your modeling but your video production as well. Well done, sir! Keep 'em coming! Cheers!
Watching you videos has inspired me to start building diaroma's. So just to start I purchased 2 of the woodland scenic kits the basic and the water kit I can't wait to start!
awesome, that's a great place to start 😉
Me too
In all honesty, I used to think the kind of people who bought model making stuff like this were guys still living in their mum's basement, but after seeing your videos, they've taken my breath away! I now appreciate it as the skilled art that it is!
Once again, another amazing video, thanks Luke.
Thanks mate, glad you're enjoying the videos 😀
Hey Luke, you are simply the best! I´m studying architecture and I´ve learnt so many tricks for my models from your videos. I owe you half of my career! Also, as an idea, I would love to see a scene that involved the Rally of Australia. Every time I watch it on TV I wonder how it would be to model these dust clouds. Have a nice day!
awesome I's so happy that I've been able to help with your architecture studies! Dust clouds would definitely be a challenge. I'd need to do a bit of brain storming to figure out how to get the effect... 😀
You could post pics of your things and fool people by saying they are real. Your modelling is so good Luke!
Nice Job and the sunlight makes even more realistic
I don't build models but this is so amazing and relaxing. Great work!!!! PS your family is so adorable.
I'm beginning to wonder if I'm actually living in a Luke Towan diorama....
Don't ask questions you don't wanna know the answer to, my guy
Me and my son are away to try our first one in the next couple weeks. Can’t wait.
I wish all these where connected to have one of the best model Rail Roads ever, then charge to come see!!!
lol... it would be pretty hard to compete with Miniature Wunderland, it's a good idea though 😉
Dream big my freind your work is awesome!
@@BoulderCreekRailroad You could ask them if you can build a part for them. Like to see that if i next visit the Wunderland ;-)
Just amazing, especially the water. Now I'm dying to make a huge Warhammer 40k battle scene
back in the day they would all be doing movie special effects - amazing work
FANTASTIC WORK! MY GODDESS 😍😍😍😍 BEAUTIFUL!
Why is the water always my favorite part in every model he creates lol
You were most likely a fish in a previous life
@u/user2 _ errrrr......Grandpa might be more appropriate. As to WHY? It's moderately entertaining at times, educational at other times, and mostly profoundly irritating
After watching this, I realized I don't have the right tools, this is key.
yeah having the right tools does make it easier, there are often alternatives though 😉
Theres no way I would ever follow your tutorials to do these, I am way too incompetent. However, I love watching you make these, the detail is beautiful.
Watched a lot of diorama videos, yours is the first and only one I didn't fast forward. Well done.
An absolute joy to watch.
Thank you.
Greetings,, Kitty.
