Which is the reason I bought the Kindle Fire HDX 8.9" (2013 model) It had great specs and a pretty cheap price attached to it when the rest of the android tablets of the day was a good $600+ This may just replace the old girl since its having battery issues.
Montisaquadeis So they haven't updated the Kindle tablets in a while? I forgot they were about the best thing going for Android tablets in their day. Didn't realize it's been so long since then.
They have Updated the Kindle Fire line of tablets just NOT the HDX line of tablets. The HDX was great specs for a low price and the HD line is just ok specs for a low price
I have an older MediaPad M3 and I quite like it. It's a few years old now but I still use it everyday. I have the 8" one and for me at least that's the perfect form factor. Larger and easier to read on than a phone screen but not as unwieldy as larger tablets. There really aren't many good choices for Android tablets these days but I have been quite happy with it. Glad to see that they're refreshing their product line.
My thoughts are just like yours. Really considering buying the m5 8.4 inch tablet. I had the nexus 7 before and I loved the size. 10 inch tablets just gets too big and unwieldy.
Yup. They do. As this being my 1st tablet (M3) I was quite impressed by the overall build quality, display size and resolution (QHD) and though EMUI can feel a bit weighted sometimes, I like the overall device. Plus Huawei actually provides Google Security Patches every few months based on the length of time I have had mine which is about 7 months. I got 3 security patches this year and the immediately got a chance to update to Nougat out of the box, (though to be clear I hope they at least give it Oreo)
I've just got one for about £250 on Amazon. It's actually pretty good. A bit heavier than I expected, but I've been used to using kindle fire tablets for a long time, wanted to get a premium tablet so got this.
Bought a nice set of expensive headphones and everyone's going with the no headphone jack. It's awful just because apple does it doesn't mean everyone needs to follow and assume it's a good thing.
I'm an elderly woman who uses the daylights out of my tablets! I am a heavy media user, not a gamer, and also would use a larger tablet for some magazines. I think I will be checking around for one. I don't need LTE, and I am definitely NOT into the iOS eco system. Perfect for me! Hope I can find one at Best Buy.
hmm if the 8.4" has a 2560x1600 aka 16:10 res ips screen and SD slot I may have found a replacement for my old 2013 Kindle Fire HDX 8.9" which is having battery issues. Also does this support OTG and external DACS? I ask becuase I have a FiiO E18 that I use with my mobile devices but my Kindle Fire HDX does NOT support the FiiO E18 or OTG.
Hi Lisa, so were you able to test/do you have any insight on the GPS in the tablet? I'm thinking of using it in my car as a nav/media system. Thank you
Hey Lisa, glad you're still doing these vids and loving the t-shirt :) - Half looking for an android tablet with pen support and quality audio so this is looking tempting. Cheaper than the S3 and better speakers, iiiinteresting!
No jack is a big deal for a tablet. Screen is great (laminated and 16:10), speakers are excelent, some alternative for DeX etc. Interesting tablet for media consumption, much better than my iPad Pro. That jack thou :(

You forgot to mention (I think) the desktop mode it features. Pretty useful for people like me that uses the tablet also for work. And the usb-c also helps because you can attach a dongle to it and have a fully functional desktop experience for most things.
Juan, agreed with you. The lack of headphone jack is not a deal breaker for me. I have a sony WI-1000X bluetooth earphones which will solve the problem. I have compared the speakers of the m5 pro to the Samsung Tab S4 which is significantly more expensive in Malaysia and the M5 just blown it away when playing the same video. The Simcard is a plus for me. Desktop mode is a good feature too. I do not even need to bring my laptop anymore for business trips. This tablet is good enough for some light work with Word, etc
How do I get the white dot off the screen think it's from accessibility but turned off and put settings back to original! Still on the device please let me know how to get rid of it

I have enjoyed your reviews for years now. What is this O-Mg theme? :) :)
Suddenly (07/03) the MediaPad M5 8.4 & 10.8 has been removed from Amazon, only the Pro remains? I wonder if this has to do with the Bluetooth and WiFi not working together?
Good to see another android tablet. I was intending to upgrade from my iPad mini 2 because i broke the screen and iOS 11 appear to run slower on the mini2. Just fixed the screen last week and installed iOS 12. Now it’s much better. Guess I’ll hold off on another tablet for now but the price on this is interesting no doubt.
MobileTechReview That's just a missed opportunity from their side. Big brands should know what the interests and focus areas are, of the people they are working with. But good review anyway!
I've already bought one and after owning 3 tablets before it (even an iPad air 2) this is so far one of my favorites. It's big for multimedia, it's responsive with no lag so far, and the already long battery life is made better by the fast charging time. I only bought this because my asus 3s 10 broke, and so far i think i got an upgrade.
isaacgd1 Have you encountered the issue that some are having when using bluetooth audio, while streaming video? Apparently they use the same antenna, and it kills reception.
You mean it's worth the upgrade.. I'm also considering this one since I wanted the included pen so bad, OMG look at that price.. cheap with great quality
@@AndrioGaming079 Thank you so much for the reply and your detailed feedback on your experience. I'm thinking about picking up one of these myself soon! I have one question tho, what is the max SD Card capacity that I can use?
Lisa maybe nobody noticed until now .. but the tablet does not recognise 2k display when playing videos in UA-cam app . maximum that it shows is Full HD ! i have tried more than a device and they all have the same issue
I wish we got that in my country. I ended up getting a Samsung Tab S3 late last year because I needed to replace my dying Mi Pad 1st generation. The Tab S3 is fine, I'm using it now to watch this, but it's so expensive. I understand it's cause it has the fancy pen and all, but I don't even need that. This Huawei tablet sounds just fine for its price. But we don't have it here.
Just to share: The pricing for the Tab S4 with keyboard is Ringgit Malaysia RM3699 and the mediapad M5 Pro with keyboard folio case and 2 pieces of glass sceen protector cost slightly less than RM2399. Quality wise, i dont see much difference but the samsung screen is of course better, but not enough to justify for the significant difference and the M5 pro speakers just blow the S4 ones away. The price of the S4 is already encroaching into the range of decent laptops minus the support of stylus pen. I even compared the 2k display (on maximum brightness) to my lenovo yoga 920 4k display and the M5 display still looked good with the same wallpaper on both. A pretty good buy for me.
Was expecting a more throughout review from this channel. I have this tablet, and yes the button placement is horrible, and so is the missing jack... But what some might find to be the biggest problem is the Bluetooth connection. Watching live content via WiFi (no matter 2.4 or 5Ghz) like twitch, live TV etc. while listingen with bluetooth speaker or headphones will cripple the WIFI connection to a point where the stream unbarely laggy! The screen is also rather reflective, even compared to older units.. No USB-C to display (HDMI, VGA or DVI) support. Furthermore you can alter the fingerprint scanner to work as a home, back and latest apps button.
I have a Samsung Note 2 and 3. Both are great. A case is important so the material on the back of the tablet is unimportant. This tablet looks very competitive.
Nice to see a review from someone in the same age-group. Several questions for Lisa, how does it compare to the Asus 9.7 "S" Zenpad and also "if you remember" Asus TF-701T tablet. The TF tablet to me has a better screen than the Asus's current offering. Btw, can you add an external card-reader thru the "C" port, and yes I know it has an internal memory slot
denault3985 I've tested many different USB components with this tablet using a USB-C to USB adapter, and all of them worked. However, the port only operates at USB 2.0 speed or less. Giving you something around 10-15megabytes/sec, using the card reader on the tablet increases this speed alot! Can't remember the exact speed. Was planning to use this tablet as a medium for offloading pictures from my camera to an external disc, but found the speed way too slow!
denault3985 Perhaps I was unclear, but yes you will most likely be able to use a card reader connected to the USB-C port, as all USB devices I have tested worked, including a USB cardreader. But only with the speeds that I described earlier.
M I C H you can't compare any Android tablet to iPad pro. The other thing is apple iOS for tablet is much better than Android for tablet. The only thing that Android tablet have over iPad pro, is normal file browser.
I was looking to buy the iPad pro 10.5 inch model and tried it out in the store and wasn't impressed with it and that price tag was ridiculous as well and then I came across this tablet and was amazed that a tablet half the price performed just as good with useful features and hardware. You just can't beat Huawei on this one. I bought my Huawei 10.8 inch model for €394. I can do everything with it what I want no restrictions. This review isn't good enough the fingerprint scanner supports gestures for multitasking and act as a home button and you can disable the on screen buttons. Split view, Plus the eye comfort mode is just as Apple's true tone feature. You can also use a mouse or other accessories with the Huawei, no restrictions, expandable storage. And fact remains the 10.5 pro 64GB model isn't that fast than the 256GB model but that's Apple's way to screw you. You must buy their 256GB model. Look it up.
True. Powerful and lots of excellent apps that are well optimised for it. And you are going to get updates for about 5 years. This tablet is a nice start but it’s still pretty poor in comparison. Even fandroids admit that. Great value for money though. And for most people it’s enough.
I still prefer Android tablets over iPads because I'm so invested in the Google ecosystem; all of my games, books, movies and everything else are there. Also, they probably didn't include a headphone jack because they think their speakers are so great you won't want or need to use headphones with it.
I am eager to know this aswell. I read a post somewhere stating Huawei fixed this with an update. At least for Netflix HD but i have not seen anyone who confirms this is also the case for UA-cam etc.
There's a review on Amazon.com that states that the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi use the same antenna, and therefore cannot be used at the same time. Can you verify that, please?
Hey Lisa, you should have mentioned the excellent desktop mode, which is similar to Samsung's Dex on their new crazy-priced Tab S4. The M5 home button also has multi-gesture mode. Anyway, I'm in the UK and own the LTE version of this truly excellent tablet. Apart from the features mentioned in this video, I really cannot praise the sound enough; it's AMAZING and beats any other tablet in that regard. The missing headphone jack I have got used to, but at least there is always the dongle option, if I need it. Pssst, I'm sorry that the USA is missing out on the LTE iteration, then again you're also cursed with a maniac Russian agent as your president. Sigh!
I like it and the price seems to be spot on... In regards to a lack of headphone jack it doesn't matter to me since I never use headphones on a tablet...
Ohh man. Lisa you have to put out links to where you are getting your T shirts from. I am surfing like H*** to find them every time you are having a new one. I realy freking want them :-) they are so Cool.
SAmoled (tech is similar to OLED which is way better looking and always more expensive than lcd as you see with 4k tvs) amazing display is the reason people buy the Tab S line theres a reason Huawei is cheaper that inferior Ips Lcd panel and its lower ppi. The 835 snapdragon is faster than the Kyrin in the Huwaei and the pen on the Tab has way more functions.
For me the vibration of this tablet is too slow compare to other thus effect our gaming experience... Some game besides the sound system, vibrations system also one of important aspects to boost our fun in playing the game
THE scanner actually has many functions. like swipe up down and hold down. you can also edit the functions. its something i guess you would need to experiment with it
No dedicated headphone jack doesn't mean no headphone use. You just have to use the USB type C ones which huawei also manufactures in which case you won't even need the adapter.
Chrysovalantis Andriotis Chrysovalantis Andriotis I'll answer as the first commentor didn''t. I also am not a fan of the no headphone jack trend but I do think it depends on how each person uses it. In my case I use my devices a lot while commuting (approx. 3 hours/day) during that ride most of the times I will be watching youtube or watching tv shows. Also most of the times I will be charging it with my powerbank, because the battery drains very fast due to my use. Now you see the dilemma? In my case if I can't charge my device while having my headphones plugged in the device is just not practical for me. Which is why I won't buy the Huawei Mediapad nor the P20. I hope that answer satisfies you. Sorry for my English.
At least they included it in the box! They could have made you purchase it separately, I bought a DVD player and it said HDMI however no HDMI just RCA cables and inside of the box it said purchased separately! Now had it said it on the outside I could have gotten them right then! So there cheapness caused me to return it! Plus when you're iPad stops working try to get it fixed! Store will tell you it's shot and you need a new one
as much as i want to buy this. Im still thinking to grab an iPAD due to software support after years. This will not have software support after months. Trust me. im a hardcore android Fan.
Another good review. Well, considering more and more people use wireless headsets. I think the move to a wireless headset might be a tiny bit ahead of the crowd. Personally, I think its great. If you have ever had a pet who likes the taste of rubber on headset cords like my cat well it is about time it goes wireless. It looks like a fairly premium tablet. Thanks for the info.
Who gives a shit about a headphone jack? I almost never listen to my tablets on headphones. I use a wireless speaker or my tv soundbar or my chromecast audio through my stereo amp. Who wants to listen through pissy headphones? Guess I'm just not on a bus or a train or in a coffee shop that often. If I was, I'd use the adapter to, guess what, plug in my headphones. Wonder what the Apple fanboys will say when Apple completely ditches a headphone jack. Which will happen.
The ones that replaced the HDX line are rather lousy comapred to what they use to put out. AKA the newer then HDX lines are crap comapred to it. High res 2560x1600 IPS screen great CPU for the time they came out and up to 64gb of onboard storage as well has LTE versions if you needed them. Which is why I have YET to find a great replacement for my HDX 8.9" 2013 model. This may just be its replacement in the coming months once I get the cash around. The battery is dying in my hdx so yeah it needs to be replaced soon anyways.
Lisa the best tech reviewer in the planet
Seriously Dude?.....for real ???... tsk tsk...
The finger print scanner can be also used as a home and back and recent button by going to the settings

should b able to support OTG. I tried pluggin the samsung t5 ssd lastnight and it works.
Hi,
The mic you are using on your collar, is that a mic or a recorder. May I have the name of that?
Do they come with built in GPS only looking at this to use as a nav aid whilst out on my boat?

Several questions for Lisa, how does it compare to the Asus 9.7 "S" Zenpad and also "if you remember" Asus TF-701T tablet.
The TF tablet to me has a better screen than the Asus's current offering.

TM Thanks for your insight. If it is an issue, I'm sure there will be a lot more people talking about it.
Is good for studie?
You rock Lisa! TY!
Pro model comes with the case and pen. Great tablet, samsung is in trouble with this. I will buy it after this video.
In regards to a lack of headphone jack it doesn't matter to me since I never use headphones on a tablet...
and there's bt anyway ... for non-audiophile output, it will do.
Wish the M5 Pro didnt only come in fugly ass gold color!!!!
I have one and it's amazing
Ohh man. Lisa you have to put out links to where you are getting your T shirts from. I am surfing like H*** to find them every time you are having a new one. I realy freking want them :-) they are so Cool.
OMG i love your shirt. 🙀😍
Premium android tablet? Now those are words I haven't heard in a long time.
Nice T-shirt

what logical reason is there not to make the scanner a home button?!
THE scanner actually has many functions. like swipe up down and hold down. you can also edit the functions. its something i guess you would need to experiment with it
A tablet without a headphonejack? Even the latest iPad has one. Fail Huawei.
Why are Huawei still making Android tablets? They should've made Chromebook tablets!
What's the difference?
as much as i want to buy this. Im still thinking to grab an iPAD due to software support after years. This will not have software support after months. Trust me. im a hardcore android Fan.
Why would you ditch headphone jack on a huge ass tablet? *Stares at huawei
Thanks for the info.
the fingerprint scanner does do more than scan you finger... it works as a home button, "multi task button as well"
Pixel slate is out!. Yay
Anther funny T-shirt. I every time enjoy as much
Ah seriously Lisa.....nice T.
I would own this right now if it had a Snapdragon 845
And if you were a picture person how the heck do you hold it without dropping it? Good things I'm not a picture person
My first thought was TOO expensive with only the pro having pen support..
And you get twice the amount of internal memory. I also believe there are a vew minor hardware improvements aswell.
I like the cat
Epic T-shirt
Which will not be supported in a few months
Nice
nice T-shirt
this is nice!
Review the Xiaomi Mi Pad 4! @mobiletechreview
I think Kindle Fire HD 10 is what people buy for good specs-to-price Android pad. Then install Google Play manually.
The battery is dying in my hdx so yeah it needs to be replaced soon anyways.
no headphone jack - no sale
The cheap ones aren't worth the frustration, they take forever to load.
Who would buy this over a iPad 9.7.. android on tablets suck
