While obvious, I think it's worth noting that thunderlord is the only one that any class/exotic would have the same numbers on. That catalyst easily makes it the best lmg here
Its also the only one relying on the Buggy Interaction with div to Provide its dps. Without that Bug warlocks and Hunters need to reload and everyone looses a chunk of damage aswell

Theoretically He should Hit more as 3 Arcsurges come Out to a 1.22x damage increase where div is only a 1.15x increase. However He Hits 1.2m in one Phase which is far lower than atztecross is hitting. Obv there will be a few missed crits Here and there on both Sides but likely more for Imagine, however given that He should be hitting more damage If everything was working normally this discrepency is insane. Take Note how much He has to reload aswell because the normal amount of thunderstrikes Register. TLdr: tlord got hard carried by its Buggy Interaction with div in this Test.
I wonder what the damage number would be like if Cross was actually hitting his crits~ Divinity applies a debuff to the target and then the bubble is just an extra crit spot but on this Orge, the bubble will be behind/in the Orge's body when it's moving. Cross should have just been aiming at the boss face more since it's literally the same massive crit spot as the bubble. You can see several times during testing Cross was getting two numbers a lot and was mostly getting the low number. Thunderlord could have been way more and Retrofit probably wouldn't have needed the reload in either runs, cause no way adding volatile ruined the damage. (I know Cross says the other run was perfect but that's mostly cause the boss stopped moving in front of the crystal and the bubble was mostly still.)
I noticed you were missing the div bubble quite a lot in some of these tests. If you watch the numbers, there is some crazy fluctuations where you'll see like 3k then 6k.
I did this exact damage test on the same boss before the raid dropped. Most of my clan dismissed thunderlord, but I got very close to starfire demo wither shenanigans. T lord was 2 million with surges in a well and div. Starfire demo was 2.3M. A good tip for xeno is to pair it with starfire warlock, purely because of what we saw with you running out of ammo
I know this sounds dumb, but Cross’s boss damage videos get me more hyped that 85% of the other videos on UA-cam. When Grand Overture broke 2M I was fist pumping, yipping, and shouting “eat it up” while air miming eating a bowl of ice cream. This is peak entertainment.
It feels great to have machine guns that are viable for damage now. Thunderlord has such good ease of use, and damage with 3 arc surges + jolt. Best part is if you pair it with iterative loop, use that to jolt the boss, you start doing an absolute ton of damage. Yaaa!!
An old LMG that I'd like to see tested is Shattered cypher, from season of the splicer. Could roll with ALH + Surrounded. Surrounded being a 40% damage buff, and ALH proc (2.5s) being faster than an actual reload could be an interesting prospect in the right fights. Testing here would be ideal, though I don't know if well of radiance would kill the thralls surrounding the player when it is dropped. Another option I'd like to see is Thermal Erosion with Demolitionist and starfire, been running this a couple times in RoN and it has been pumping some serious damage. The best part about this, is that you don't depend on witherhoard damage to refund your grenades, so it works even if somebody else is running wither. 2 other competitors to throw into the ring.
Machine guns have been my favourite weapon type from destiny 1 for all these years and have come a long way in all this time. I’m so happy that they’re finally viable and have a place in the meta. Heir apparent has been my favourite exotic for 3 years and I got 33k kills on it
The tweaks to Machine Guns have made them my favorite heavy easily. Deterministic Chaos on a Gyrfalcon/Orpheus Rig Hunter is so fun. Once the seasonal artifacts are gone, DC will definitely get more love for sure. Also; DC is not meant to be dealing damage like crazy. It's more meant as a support weapon to weaken enemies for your teams. That with Deadshot is pretty wild.
@@chickenjimmy6552it’s a Divinity with much higher DPS. If you’re fighting a boss that’s easy to crit or doesn’t have a crit for some reason DC is just a better Div
@@chickenjimmy6552 It's more of a support weapon than a damage dealing exotic similar to tractor cannon. This thing melts ads, no need to exaggerate. Running this with Hunter in higher level activities including Master Lost Sector is incredibly easy and viable with the proper build. But you can't play this like it's a Thunderlord or Circular Logic.
@@Kinterlude understand what it's supposed to do, but it serves no practical purpose. Its the same debuff as div, which is a special weapon that has more ammo, more uptime, and creates a crit. In 3 player teams DC is useless against bosses because it's dps is so low that it's 15% buff is outweighed, and in a 6 player team nobody uses it because it's the lowest debuff possible. It's bad in low level activities because nobody needs a debuff, and it's bad in high level activities because with it's absurdly low dps and ammo econ, you can't even kill ads efficiently. It's bad against champs because you need burst damage (and it has no native champion breaking). It's bad with gyrfalcons because it completely nullifies half of the exotic perk. It's bad with Orpheus because tether outranks DCs debuff (weapons like wish ender, revision zero, and quicksilver are better because you get 100% tether uptime). Deterministic Chaos has no place in D2. Just use Divinity and a real lmg
So a point about Actium and Thunderlord is that, looking at the ammo counter, HE NEVER DROPS BELOW 50 IN THE MAGAZINE. Even at full spin-up, as long as Thunderlord is causing lightning strikes, and Actium is functioning, that is steady, non-stop DPS that's foolproof, goes until the mag is empty.
Definitely. That catalyst puts it over the top with the combination of ammo from reserves from both the catalyst and Actium. Overture might do the most, but in terms of ease of use + DPS totals, thunderlord is my go to.
Retrofit is best because it only has a little lower dps, but much higher total damage. It had a ton of ammo left. Plus you can pair it with witherhoard for significant more damage.
I tell you what. Nothing makes me happier in Destiny, than seeing some damage numbers. Above all mechanical things in Destiny that we have somewhat mastered, nothing makes us more excited than seeing how absolutely broken a guardian can be, with the right weapon in hand. These videos not only encourage others to see how balanced/unbalanced some weapons are compared to each other, but it also encourages a large majority of players to build around these types of weapons to maximize the damage of certain weapons to their truest capabilities. I'm glad that these tests are being published sparringly, but I believe that these kinds of tests could be seemingly endless with the amount of combinations, builds, and weapon perks used in combat for that sweet damage. What guardian doesn't wanna boast highest dps on a boss encounter every wipe? At least ya know you're putting down what the other's aren't picking up(yet).
I was using thunderlord with catalyst with two arc surge mods in kings fall against warpriest without div. I was doing the most damage every time. Machine guns are back man.
I've used, tested, and thoroughly enjoyed Retrofit Escapade since it came out as an LMG so I really am not suprised at the damage numbers. The buff scales up to 40% damage increase with a 25% average increase evenly spread throughout the mag. However since he used Actium, he KEEPS that high end 40% buff that normally only exists for a couple seconds at the end of the magazine because he keeps firing past 110% of the mag capacity in bullets. It's probably the only LMG that can go toe to toe with Thunderlord. I used it in Day 1 Crota against the witch boss because I needed riskrunner as my exotic. I almost matched DPS of my teammates and did enough damage such that I had a well at the start of the phase and a second one by the end of the phase.
Thank you for the testing. Was wondering if maybe you could add a highlight on the newest value of the big list of damages after each test. Just to help some old people eyes to not pause and search the list :)
I like using Circular Logic in my mock Starfire Strand build. Threadling 'nades, Witherhoard, Thread of Generation, and demo Circular Logic is just so much fun for me, especially with Swarmers being the cherry on top
You could try the one from spire. Pretty sure it rolls demo wellspring for more regen, or a damage perk instead of having demo in 4th slot on circular logic
Cross, since your on Strand you should pair the grenade throw reload fragment with this DPS test. I mean I doubt it'll be a huge difference but just an idea
IMO the best thing going for Retrofit, and the reason I use it over all the rest is that in most boss DPS phases you will probably not even get through 2 full mags of ammo. Gives you a lot to work with in later phases, where most other weapons - namely Thunderlord - would be struggling on ammo after any DPS phase.
I used Heir Apparent during the final season of Beyond Light doing Deep Stone for Taniks damage and beat the Sherpa who was using whatever the meta was. Guy had not been kind to my group and I'd meant to throw with it but instead we pissed him off so hard when he went to congratulate someone on beating him and how they had to have a godroll and it's like "nah, your wellock was running Heir Apparent" and he tried to do that kick thing but he wasn't the leader

Something i noticed whilst playing ghost of the deep with retrofit; Divinity actually reduced the Target Lock dmg; idk if it's because of Div's included dmg bonus; which maybe overlaps the target lock; but even in this video; when u used retro/strand MG; sometimes when u hit the head you dealt 6-7k instead of 4.5-5k on div ball; Like, on my retro i would deal 6k on HS; but 4k on div; so i required/requested that my teammates ran it without div & my damage went up with almost 400k-1mil (edit; HS reach 7.3k on retrofit without div) (Edit 2: I used gyrfalcon & volatile rounds; which may be a bit harder for u to do; but the ammo chest might be useful; and i would love to send you actual proof of this)
Problem with this boss is the divinity cage sometimes goes inside him, and so a lot of shots don’t count as crit. You can literally see numbers switching between body shots and crits

With Actium+Rewind Rounds it can fire just as long if not longer (assuming you're landing your shots ofc), and has access to damage perks like target lock, frenzy, etc. As well as unraveling rounds. What this means is that Bungie needs to give Sweet Business target lock, for balance reasons :)
I didn't say with a well ? I said with triple surges and the battle harmony it would be nutty. there's a bug atm where kinetic weapon surge is applying to the nighthawk shot. not sure if it outdamages star eaters though. also not sure if it was patched since a week ago, i doubt it its because bungie.

It’s not a glitch. The lightning strike procs faster if you land more crits than body shots. When using div, the lightning strikes self-proc their own crits since they hit the div bubble. This is why it feels like you never have to reload thunderlord when using div. I thought this was common knowledge but apparently not. Everyone thinks it’s a glitch. It’s not. It’s just div

I have a rewind round/target lock Circular logic. So many times Ive been inspected in a raid “teeman you shouldn’t be using that for damage” “teeman use a rocket launcher or a linear” *drops 3 mil on Nezzy*
That's not how that works, you can have both at the sane time since they affect 2 different weapons, I've done it before. It just that not all the buffs can fit on screen at once
I'm actually kind of happy to see that comparison of Deterministic Chaos and Div, since they both have a similar role of being a weakening support weapon. Both do 15%, but Deterministic does roughly 2x the damage. No crit bubble, but you don't need it for every boss or DPS setup. If you're short on a Tether and don't need a crit bubble, I'd say have someone run Deterministic Chaos instead of Div.
The thing I hate about grand overture is that it requires some setup. The others are just “go in and hold down shoot.” While with grand you need a volley ready before dps, fully reloaded, and the volley enabled.
Qullim’s Terminus with ensemble, firing line, and runneth over is fantastic when near your fireteams. It feels wildly good. On Machine Gun surge it it’s about 10k per crit with firing line active. Nasty. Pairs well with Stasis and will be great when Titans can easily farm charges for stasis surge.
I love these damage test videos but they always make me curious about the actual applications of them and pulling off what's needed to reach those numbers. Specifically thinking about the argument for Retrofit + Witherhoard vs. Grand Overture from this video. In a real raid encounter setting of having a good chunk people needing to do stuff such as add clear and mechanics before DPS (G.O. pre-stacking rockets + recovering ammo). Granted, for the Witherhoard combo you would only want 2x ppl on that, but would it be better just to have everyone go G.O., deal with the stacking/recovering ammo, and retain that legendary flex for other stuff, especially in light of how flexible witherhoard is and the ammo economy discussion as well... I guess my point being "optimal" vs. "practical and consistent".
Retrofit barely ever runs out of ammo if you do double special, you can even see it in the video that RE still has about half it's ammo from one phase, FTTC is just that strong on it.
Best thing about zenophage is you don't need to use div you can use tractor since it doesn't crit and you'll get more damage out of it. Easily my favorite weapon for solo flawless dungeons thing is so consistent on damage.

@@1votdopeningfan138 what about the interaction is buggy?

This is a Video done by Imagine where He does His damage with a Well and 3x Arc surge (and lunas) but without div.
@@1votdopeningfan138hunters don’t have to reload bc of combat dodge
@@itswaters8970 that still looses dps because you a) have the dodge animation which isnt 0 seconds long and b) it needs to spin up once again
I wonder what the damage number would be like if Cross was actually hitting his crits~
Divinity applies a debuff to the target and then the bubble is just an extra crit spot but on this Orge, the bubble will be behind/in the Orge's body when it's moving.
I think there is something to be said about the ease of use of Thunderlord, and how much 3x arc surge does to the damage of that gun.
Thunderlord does ungodly damage so easily to single targets. The chain lightning proc AoE is just extra chef's kiss.
i love these videos so much its like im rooting for the weapon to do well. i got so happy seeing retrofit break 1.5 million 😭
Bro DC won't get any love until it gets a solid buff. The thing's dps and total damage are so low that it's even bad against ads
Personally i hate the recoil on every fourth shot. It feels like the gun has hiccups.... Its just obnoxious.
We wiggle, we dance, we give Xenophage a chance
Heir is a fantastic utility weapon. Maybe not meta boss dmg but excellent in lots of other situations
It's my go to when I'm pugging it. There's always one or two people that die, and being able to rez them without worrying is amazing.
Xenophage catalyst giving it field prep would be game changing, but not game breaking
or bungie could just increase its reserves a bit
I liked the 21% Delirium a lot with his 900 rpm, you could clear the field so fast. Sad Bungie decided to leave it behind ...
I tell you what. Nothing makes me happier in Destiny, than seeing some damage numbers.
Above all mechanical things in Destiny that we have somewhat mastered, nothing makes us more excited than seeing
how absolutely broken a guardian can be, with the right weapon in hand.
These videos not only encourage others to see how balanced/unbalanced some weapons are compared to each other, but it also
encourages a large majority of players to build around these types of weapons to maximize the damage of certain weapons to their truest
capabilities.
The LMG from spire with extended mag, triple tap and target lock is real nice
Wouldn’t retrofit just be better though because of faster fire rate and fourth times instead of triple tap

I'm excited to finally get my Heir Apparent next week :)
I missed it last year on my new account 😭😭
The laugh- scream at 14:31 lowk scared me, but great vid anyway. Keep up the good work
Still rocking my corrective measure! Super good this season with the easy volatile rounds.
I was using thunderlord with catalyst with two arc surge mods in kings fall against warpriest without div. I was doing the most damage every time. Machine guns are back man.
Im so happy the heir apparent did better then what everyone was expecting. :,)
@@hellothere-dk4gg I'll consider that thanks, demo is just so it reloads when I throw my 'nade
@@starlightthewolf6612 that'll be great with terminus horizon, you can get demo/target lock or demo/cascade point, just an added bonus imo
Deterministic only gets extra dmg from the volatile since youre using div already.
12:17 Ogre needs to give that thrall a raise. 🤣🤣
I love Machine Guns! From bosses to add clear, so versatile and user friendly!
Cross Commemoration has fttc + firing line. Wanted to see its damage too.
That's the one I wanted to see. 👀

Something i noticed whilst playing ghost of the deep with retrofit; Divinity actually reduced the Target Lock dmg; idk if it's because of Div's included dmg bonus; which maybe overlaps the target lock; but even in this video; when u used retro/strand MG; sometimes when u hit the head you dealt 6-7k instead of 4.5-5k on div ball; Like, on my retro i would deal 6k on HS; but 4k on div; so i required/requested that my teammates ran it without div & my damage went up with almost 400k-1mil
(edit; HS reach 7.3k on retrofit without div)
(Edit 2: I used gyrfalcon & volatile rounds; which may be a bit harder for u to do; but the ammo chest might be useful; and i would love to send you actual proof of this)
Ok this is so much more entertaining than the normal damage tests imo, REALLY hope this format makes some returns in the future 🍆
I’ve been using Heir Apparent a lot lately. Forgot how much I loved it until it’s became my champion finisher.
Problem with this boss is the divinity cage sometimes goes inside him, and so a lot of shots don’t count as crit. You can literally see numbers switching between body shots and crits
Retrofit with Lunafaction would have added some extra dmg. Xenophage maybe if you could generate bricks near the crystal could work.
As much as I love Sweet Business, I think Rufus' Fury has it beat in its gimmick.
I used grand overture last season in my solo flawless spire against persys and it slapped but now its even better.
That grand ovt with triple surge mods and the battle harmony would be pretty nutty . Id like to see someone do that.
mantle of battle harmony doesn't stack with well of radiance.
I didn't say with a well ? I said with triple surges and the battle harmony it would be nutty.
Also if you had a teammate make you radiant that could counteract that because it does stack with radiant or teather 30% weaken. Shit you can even do both. Definitely some crazy options for maximizing DPS .

I remember way back when, I used Xenophage on Hunter to finish my Divinity run. Damage was insane then, I need to test now with solar surges, star eaters, blade barrage etc. to see what kind of numbers it can put out with the right set up
there's a bug atm where kinetic weapon surge is applying to the nighthawk shot. not sure if it outdamages star eaters though. also not sure if it was patched since a week ago, i doubt it its because bungie.

Deterministic should have a higher debuff like maybe 20 or 25

Thunderlord has a glitch with the div bubble thats giving you a lightning strike every 6 shots instead of 10.
Let's keep this feature a sercet from youtubers ok?
It’s not a glitch. The lightning strike procs faster if you land more crits than body shots. When using div, the lightning strikes self-proc their own crits since they hit the div bubble. This is why it feels like you never have to reload thunderlord when using div.
I thought this was common knowledge but apparently not. Everyone thinks it’s a glitch. It’s not. It’s just div

Machine Guns were my favorite weapons in PVE in D1, I am glad they are relevant again in D2
The volatile rounds seasonal perk was negating unraveling rounds when you was getting the orbs from the Well.

Shoutout to all of the editors. Ya'll are absolutely phenomenal 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
I would love to see circular logic with a full 3x envious assassin mag with target lock!
Imagine if Sweet Business got Kenetic Tremors as a catalyst.
Love seeing Retrofit Escapade still do numbers
Just a few months ago LFs were tops. Void LMGs with Flow are OP!

You forgot the one from spire Cross, it can have triple tap and target lock. Couldn't believe the numbers from Grand Overture! 😍
Retrofit's damage is just nutty when you consider its ammo economy which is also just crazy.
