- Destiny 2's mid-season sandbox update has came and went so we loaded up for 6 hours of damage testing to see what the new metah is for the back half of the season. We test a mix of everything, from Grenade Launchers to Rockets to Snipers and even Thunderlord for some reason.

*It appears Cataphract with Bait and Switch was left off this list which was a key part of our testing here (over a million damage) Also, we didn’t highlight each damage number after each damage test, making it hard for you guys to see what was tested. My KD has skyrocketed since this update. It amazes me how people play when they can't use their special weapon as a primary the whole match.
And the people holding hands with auto rifles also skyrocket

I'd much rather play in this sandbox than the old one where I had people in my lobbies only challenge by camping in corners with their fusions only having 2 out of their 12 kills being with a PRIMARY weapon.
having 20k silver and flat out buying an ornament for a dps check is one of the biggest flex's i've seen in this game

The biggest thing to take away from this is this ranking is for a 10s damage phase. On GLs, B&S will outdamage Explosive Light over time. And GLs will generally have higher total damage than rockets.
I would have loved to see Rewind Rounds/Kinetic Tremors Supremacy + Cascade Point Adaptive GL though
If you wanna use that logic, nothing will ever outdps whisper, it has way more damage, and can hit 109k a shot with a realistic set up, one damage phase on warpriest I can manage over 4.5mill damage, JUST whisper. No swapping, no supers.
The game has boss battles focused on fast damage phases except in some situations, which is why Well of Radiance shines with all this. It kind of forces you to throw as much as you have as soon as possible. The ogre in Warlord's Ruin is an exception, which is why Dragon's Breath is so good for it, because it has 4 dps phases of 10-15 seconds each. Try Dragon's Breath vs Zaourc

I love these videos. A lot of editing work and your team does a great job. Couple changes I’d like to see:
1. Add a column with the ammo used vs. total reserves. So 5/14 for example for something that has 14 total shots. Total damage would take up too much space, but it’d be very easy for anyone to extrapolate from those two numbers.
2. Can you highlight the newest row on the DPS screen? So like a 20% opacity yellow background or something. It’d make it so much nicer, I have to spend some time hunting for it, especially toward the end of the video.
Thanks for doing these. I know it takes a lot of work. But even live I find them pretty entertaining with the bets and discussion in the comments.
I added a glow for the newest damage on the dps screen, but realize it's still too hard to tell if you don't know to look for it. Next time we'll make it more obvious.
Ah, now that you mention it, I do see it, but it is very quick and I think I was missing it because of all the movement happening as that scene fades in. And if I’m looking at the wrong column, I always miss it. Also I’m usually trying to pause right there to study the numbers the UA-cam UI overlay interferes. 😂
Not to backseat edit, because you do a great job, but I would slow the flash down by 500-1000ms and then not completely remove it so it remains highlighted.
This is probably the longest edit you have to do, it’s a ton of footage and cuts, so I’m happy if you just keep doing what you’re doing. 🥇
The ammo one is pointless since you can see it during testing. Pause the video.
@@Based_Shogun Umm… you can say that about any number. Yes, I could pause the video, write down the total damage numbers, and then compare them on my notepad/spreadsheet at the end of the video. But it is really nice that they have a table ranking all of the damage numbers during the video so I don’t have to. And as ‘Cross points out in the Regnant test, total damage is also really important to consider. But if it’s pointless to you, then just ignore it.
Slidshot on crux is crazy
True, but I just watch him sliding back and forth like that and try to imagine myself doing that in the various DPS areas, with teammates around me, trying to stay in a Well. Nah, no thanks. Don't care. That seems SO annoying. Nevermind if other teammates are trying to do it as well.

Ain’t Parasite supposed to be a swap weapon? It buffs your damage for other weapons if you damage yourself with the blast. Maybe pair it with slugs?

Thanks for always doing these damage tests, there's always a couple of surprises in there. Also, remember that once bungie (hopefully) fixes the ignition damage bug, the ignitions from 1k voices will roughly triple in damage while radiant or in a well, adding an extra 195k damage to its total damage. I think dragon's breath will sadly go down a bit in damage though, since its scalar is greater than 3.
Spike nades are still the best for gl's for sure but it's nowhere near as important anymore so you can keep your good rolls without spike
Yeah, i've gotten a Cataphract that's perfect aside from spike and it comfortably outperforms my other GLs with it, provided no well of radiance explosive light stuff, which I find just leads to people blowing themselves up so I prefer to avoid that.

@@toad4641 it's better for dps, spike is better for total damage. Effectively interchangeable, they make very little difference.
@WaifuWidow it's like 36,000 total damage across reserves of 28 on a bait and switch gl. If you wanna be a stickler for it and go for it, sure, but I doubt anything serious is gonna come down to a matter of 36,000 damage at any point.

Alloy casing is the way to go on every GL and Rocket Launcher, the reload speed bump it gives is way more important than the 2-3% from Spike
Grand Overture is amazing. I love it, especially with my arc Stag-Lock. Just so good. Obviously you can easily have 20 rockets in the pipe since you need to do ad clear on the way there.

Can we get the weapon that was just tested highlighted whenever you show the numbers? That way we don't have to skim through the entire list near the end. Just something for quality of life, to draw the eyes towards what we want to see.
In addition to build battles you should do DPS battles. Let people recommend or bring their best builds for DPS and pit them against each other. I would def be interested in that.

Some stuff can be buffed so much more like Leviathans Breath. Hunter with Gyrefalcons... Triple void surge, Get some Orbs, Tether, Dodge go invis, Open fire. If there's adds nearby getting a finisher kill while invis will buff the damage up crazy for a few shots. The volatile explosions trigger each shot because of the concussive blast. Plus at the moment the concussive blast mixed with adds tethered to a boss is broken.

Seeing Wendigo that high on the list makes me glad I got a roll that I can choose between ALH and Clown. And if it ever becomes available for enhancing the perks, it'll just get better

It would be really helpful if you could highlight the number being added to the WALL OF DPS when you go to it after each test. Because I have to keep pausing to figure out which one is the last added.
6:54 don’t forget they are tuned spike grenades with patch to make turn less mandatory. They went from an overall 8% damage buff to 3%….meaning other magazines (bigger magazines/faster reload) and other grenade type are way more viable. For such a small drop in damage…the higher chance of getting viable rolls is super worth it on my opinion.
I’m a fan of Bungie either brings perk options closer together without heavy nerfs or adding them perks in all the time (surrounded/rampage spec for example). It makes the grind still usually time extensive…. But can ease some of the more extreme examples of frustration(perfect roll minus spikenades for example). Definitely a solid call by Bungie imo.
Really thank you for this huge job, but missing the RETROFIT ESCAPADE on this test.
Numbers on the last test are kinda skewed… Using Actium War Rig for machine guns, but what did you use for 1k Voices and Sleeper Simulate? Is there another exotic armor piece that would be a better paring to squeeze out more shots for those two???

I was on break for a while and got a crux with slideshot orbs off some random drop. I kept it on a gut feeling despite not knowing anything about the gunand man am I glad I did.

Divinity is a good cascade/autoload GL pairing. Super easy cascade proc and the bubble lingers right up until you run out of gl ammo in the mag. Obviously it's niche in that what boss is divinity good on that tractor wouldn't be better and is actually a reasonable target to hit with a gl. Still good for squeezing a little more damage out while using div tho.
Definitely gotta do 2 bosses for testing. One for longer dps phases and short ones.

Not sure what it would look like at templar, but for total damage, I'm curious about tarnation (that first craftable heavy gl).
With enhanced field prep and chain reaction, the total ammo goes to around 40 grenades.
Got that God roll Marcatto. Great for Planets boss , Ir Yut, and any boss that there's room to move.

Recommendation: after a weapon gets tested and the board with all the weapons shows up, could we have the one just tested circled or bordered in red? Trying to find it in the list every time is quite difficult without having to pause, and even with pausing it can still take me a while. Thanks for the informative video cross! Love it
parasite would be nice if it got a catalyst auto loading holster or faster reload ect, there's many traits you can slap on a catalyst for that grenade launcher
Kinda disappointed that the only rocket test was with a slideshot crux. Would have at least liked to see a recon bait Apex given that's what most people have been defaulting to for rocket DPS the last little while. Still nice to see that GL's are going strong again though

Marsilion C/ Augmented Drum/ Envious Assassin/ Explosive light
Marsillion-C can roll with envious & cascade and with it being a rapid fire frame it can output more shots using cascade point.
I have this roll and it does do quite well.

On my apex. I switched from bait and switch to bipod with reconstruction. So i generally have 4 rockets in the mag and it holds 13-14 total. Great for overload Champs and still good for damage... not the best but still very good

I use divinity for cascade point with the “Aztec Acosmic GL’’
The thinderlords recommendation was back when it was bugged and causing lightning strikes twice as often on div bubbles, causing a massive jump in dos. Once bungie fixed the bug you updated the recommendation on your next damage testing.
So if I may ask where on this list do I need to start looking to pick something of good damage?like where is the base line between the good and the bad
Aztecross test everything equally challenge (impossible)
You did Sleepless dirty, the point of it is to have auto-loading proc, so you should do a izanagi or cloudstrike rotation with it. I guarantee you it'd be higher on the list

I have both a Crux with envious assassin + Bipod and a slideshot + EL
Curious which of those 2 would be better.
That’s a hard choice. You could dump some damage with the Slide EL roll. At the same time you could get some mileage out of Env and Bipod in terms of total damage. The Braytech Osprey can also roll Env and Bipod, so it’s less of a unique roll on the Crux.

Crux is a good GM rocket, with recon+bopod
I still use Parasite for rotations and not a stand alone DPS option. Lucky pants w/ seventh seraph, loaded question w/ overflow controlled burst. It's also the only heavy GL that can be auto loaded with a holster mod
Did Crux have Gjally on? Or has the damage of the wolfpack rounds have been taken off?
In defense of parasite, it has great one shot damage for things like atraiks and you can make it a auto loading to pair with supremacy or something similar.
Can we see a damage test or video involving caster frame swords? It might not be necessary but I’m just curious if they’re viable in builds right now.
A Bait and Switch Cataphract With Mini Frags and Mag mod paired with Izzy's 4X Honed Edge shot was doing REALLY good damage for me in the final boss encounter of the Prophecy dungeon, it even worked well for Warlords Ruin to.

Recon bipod cux is funny cause it's a 7 or more shot rocket and I find that build hilarious
My thought for an anarchy use-case is definitely for an arc build.
Like, imagine arcstrider with the gathering storm super, anarchy, and a crafted DPS Techeun Force with some arc synergy shenanigans going on. Like arc surge mods and such.
Could even pair that with Foetracer.
Throw in a spicy seasonal artifact and we got a possible meta 🔥
Thunderlord is one of those super niche picks that sometimes is just amazing, and 99% of the rest of the time is incredibly mid. I used Thunderlords and Actium on the day one for Crota and it made killing the wizard a breeze. Because of the insane super recharge and long damage phase I was able to consistently get off 2 thundercrash supers each damage phase for insane damage numbers. It took some quick swapping, but I was always top dmg in that encounter with Tlord on contest.

i personally would like, and im sure alot of others would appreciate it, if the damage testing was ranking loadouts (primary secondary and heavy) instead of a single weapon, sometimes it is the case but sometimes a single weapon isnt always going to be what you would use in a damage phase example would be bait and switch. this would make it so crystal clear for beginners or returning plays to know what they need to be using in all weapons slots for optimal damage. Just some food for thought, we all appreciate what you do for the community through laughter, fun, updates and damage tests. thanks
Parasite+eremite is busted for high total decent dps. 1 solar loader allows you to shoot a high impact buffed by resovoir burst and worm byproduct in between. Probably the best dmg scenario for it is the rath ogre in warlords ruin. I am able to 3 phase him with no dmg supers solo.
there is a hunter build llama posted that does 2.6m total damage in a decent amount of time

I managed to find a Crux with envious and bipod and can hold 6 booms at most
sleepers can do some serious dps if u get 2/3 surges and radiant going. im hitting 100k+ /shot on Simmumah (ghost final boss)
I guess Edge Transit with Envious Assassin and Bait and Switch can achieve same success as Cataphract. Of course it's tough to get the roll but it's worth the grind, especially because it can run other perks like Deconstruction too which are interesting. This list will definitely get better.
