As a Brit, Rowan Atkinson first became known to me around 1979 when he appeared in a UK TV sketch comedy called 'Not the Nine O'clock News' - He appeared in that with Pamela Stephenson, who is married to Billy Connolly (Billy is hilarious) Mel Smith and Griff Rhys Jones. My favourite Rowan Atkinson comedy performances are those where he appears in short 'bit' parts - The Vicar in 'Four Weddings and a Funeral' and the jewellery salesman in 'Love Actually' as well as the already mentioned numerous times before - 'Blackadder' which is a comedy classic!
Rowan Atkinson is huge in the UK. That WAS Prince Charles...and his wife Camilla. Rowan has been a comedian since his university days. Became famous in the 70s with a sketch show with 3 others...Not The Nine O'clock News. Then super-huge with Blackadder and Mr Bean. He's done a lot of stand up too. A really funny guy. The other Pythons, and at least two of the other Blackadder cast (Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie) were at Cambridge and in the Cambridge Footlights which is the more famous of the two groups
(Just For Your Infomation:) Rowan was born on Jan 6th 1955 in Consett, County Durham - (Which is situated up in the North-east of England) - I think his time spent at University down south (& where he met the other members of the Not The Nine O'Clock News gang) also allowed him to alter/adapt his speaking voice into a more formal kind of English RP type . . . it may also have helped him with the issue he also had with any words beginning with the letter B as well . . .
Rowan also had a very bad stutter when he was younger. He learned that he can control it if he over exaggerates his words. Look at how he pronounces P’s and B’s
Here's a fun fact: Mr Bean originally started as a standup act. When Rowan Atkinson performed in Canada, he deliberately booked a French-speaking slot at the gig, even though he didn't speak French because he wanted to test if Mr Bean would be funny to everyone, not just English speakers
Rowan Atkinson is a car fanatic and holds the record for the highest car insurance payout in UK history. He crashed his McLaren F1 worth 2.5 million, it cost his insurers £900k to repair it...he sold it soon after! 😆

Quite a lot of British comedians - and artists in general - that emerged in the 1970s/80s, studied at college or university when they started. Guitarist Brian May has a PhD in Astrophysics.
Yeah, definitely Blackadder season 2 onwards. They said “season 1 looked like a million dollar show on a million pound budget”, but the following seasons were more focused sitcoms with brilliant writing.

Rowan Atkinson is most known for Mr Bean and Black Adder. His Johnny English is sort of 'what if Mr Bean was a spy and spoke'. He has done other movies for example Never Say Never Again (He plays a Johnny English like bumbling spy), Four Weddings and a funeral (He plays the second priest), The Witches (He plays the hotel owner which he plays like Black Adder) and The Lion King (Original Animation) (He is the voice of Zazu the royal advisor)
This was done in 2019 (this is the second time he has done this sketch) in front of Prince Charles (big ears) The Prince of Wales and his wife The Duchess of Cornwall. RowanAtkinson treaded the boards at Cambridge University along with a lot of other well known British comedians. He started in Not The Nine o’clock News, Blackadder (with Sir Tony Robinson, Hugh Laurie, Stephen Fry and Miranda Richardson) 4 series plus Blackadder’s Christmas Carol and Blackadder Back and Fourth (for the millennium dome now The O2 Arena), Mr Bean tv series as well as the cartoon series and Mr Bean films, The Thin Blue Line and The Johnny English films. He has also starred in other films. He appeared in the opening ceremony of The 2012 Olympics in London. There was talk of bringing Blackadder back but the cast said no. There was a Comic Relief Special of Blackadder set during The English Civil War a number of years ago, Comic Relief was set by a group of comedians including Lenny Henry and Griff Rhy-Jones in 1980s since then Sports Relief alternates each year with Comic Relief and merchandise is sold in Sainsbury’s supermarket and T K Max, it started with a red nose which has altered over the years. He appeared in Barclaycard adverts between 1990-1997. He appeared in James Bond film Never Say Never Again with the late Sean Connery in 1983.
Rowan Atkinson is fantastic. He's famous for not the nine o'clock news, then black adder then Mr bean (made himself world star because there's no talking it went world wide. He's not famous for stand up. He doesn't depend on swearing or bad language. Great chap.
That was Prince Charles, Prince of Wales, Duke of Cornwall with his wife Camila, Duchess of Cornwall, sitting to his left. Glad you introduced your wife, but why is it that so many Americans are married but less co-habit with a partner as is common in Europe. Marriages are reducing in number per annum here.
Rowan Atkinson did a lot of standup in his earlier years, did skit TV (Not the 9 o'clock News), Blackadder (my fave), Mr Bean and alas, Johnny English movies
Try watching "Not The Nine O'clock News", it's where he started from... Start with maybe Hedgehog Sandwich better known as the trucking song... It's much better with the two of you, not that your doing anything wrong, in reviews two is always better than one...
There is an older version where, after asking for the French to come down, he directs them to gather "over there by the Germans....I'm sure you'll have lots to talk about". You really need to find the Blackadder Christmas Special. It is an absolutely hilarious take on "A Christmas Carol". Might be best to get a few episodes of Blackadder under your belt first though.
As an actor, Blackadder shows Atkinson settling into a part and making it his own. Blackadder Goes Forth has one of the most dramatic endings of any drama series, let alone a "sitcom". However, for taking a well known part to pieces and remaking it, you should search out his Maigret.
We can watch on our televisions in the UK too. Rowan Atkinsons accent is what is called RP or Received Pronunciation. It is an accent that most news readers and actors had in the fifties in the UK. The royal family have rp accents as do some people in the south of England including myself.
For a great and funny view of British history, and to see Rowan at his sarcastic best, you need to watch Blackadder. Every series/season from the beginning. He is hilarious, and so is the show
Yeh she should be in more video's, you should watch the Blackadder series with Rowan Atkinson but I would start with the second series, the first series isn't for everyone!
The Life of Brian reference was about the fact that, when the film was released in 1979, it created a huge amount of controversy, with many religious groups calling it blasphemous, while others said that it was carefully not blasphemous, but simply a satire on religion, and that surely god can take a joke.
You really need to watch Rowan Atkinson comedy series Blackadder. Each season is set in different British historical times and there's always a cunning plan. Absolutely brilliant and hilarious.
This was probably for the Royal Variety Show as it was Definitely Prince Charles and Camilla in the audience. Rowan Atkinson is/was in comedy shows and has done standup as well as been in movies. May I suggest you watch ‘Keeping Mum’, brilliant movie with Dame Maggie Smith. He also played the voice of Zazu in the Lion King and was more famous for playing Blackadder in the series of the same name here in the UK. The series was set in different times with each season from the Middle Ages, Tudor, Regency and world war 1.
He's known world wide for Mr bean, except in the UK where he's been a comedian since the 80s, which in time opened the door to acting. But in our hearts he will always be Edmund Blackadder.

His accent is a classic example of RP (Received Pronunciation) which is the "standard accent" of the Upper Class and Royalty
And from the North of England.... and you southern lot all think we talk like yokels and wear flat caps..!!!😂
@@Ionabrodie69 I'm from Yorkshire.
I'm from Somerset (Zummerzet)
You Have to see
Rowan Atkinson Names.
This is the sketch that put him on the map, while at Cambridge University
rowans atkinsons bit in the olympics in london
Blackadder was another comic seires which follows a certain Blackadder through history. Lots of other well known comic names in it as well.
React to more rowan Atkinson. Blackadder, Mr bean, Mr bean at London olympics, the thin blue line and Johnny english of course please.
He is known for being a comedian, he has a really high IQ.
Blimey this lad is batting well above his average
He’s a comedian first and foremost, best known in Britain for being Edmund Blackadder.
And yes, that was Prince Charles and his wife Camilla
Oh you NEED to do Black Adder next. Rowan's best work outside of his 80s political comedy.
Other British comedians to check out, Jimmy Carr, Al Murray, Mickey Flanagan, Kevin Bridges, Frankie Boyle
Rhod Gilbert, Dara O'Briain and Jon Richardson are some of my favourites along with several of those you mentioned.
@@lt.axesci5644 how on earth did I forget about Rhod Gilbert? I’ve went to about 4 of his shows Lol
He has also done some other things that's pretty awsome.
For instance I love the Blackadder series. =)
More reactions with your wife please. Good to see both of react together.
For a great and funny view of British history, and to see Rowan at his sarcastic best, you need to watch Blackadder. Every series/season from the beginning. He is hilarious, and so is the show
You guys need to watch Blackadder! So funny, and Rowan Atkinson wrote a lot of it as well as starring as Edmund Blackadder.
Yeh she should be in more video's, you should watch the Blackadder series with Rowan Atkinson but I would start with the second series, the first series isn't for everyone!
Agreed
He was a voice actor in the original lion king (Zazu) if you’ve seen that
Blunt truth with a very good sense of humour in a nutshell modern version 😂❤
A Classic.
Yes good 1st choice! Defo blackadder as mentioned by other people here!
Blackadder is his best show
Another great skit from Rowan is the wedding speech / father if the bride.
The Life of Brian reference was about the fact that, when the film was released in 1979, it created a huge amount of controversy, with many religious groups calling it blasphemous, while others said that it was carefully not blasphemous, but simply a satire on religion, and that surely god can take a joke.
You guys really need to check out the Blackadder series (with the exception of series 1) . That was Rowan Atkinson at his peak.
The entire show that included the original version of this sketch is absolutely hilarious. 😂👍
Please watch Black Adder... it pains me to know that not all humans have watched it.
It's hysterically funny. 💖
watch his performance at the 2012 Olympics
Rowan Atkinson is also a (comedy) script writer and was behind some of the most well known comedy series as well as in many of them.
