Most of them would believe that's a map of the states of America! Sail out further than 12 miles from New York or California and they think you fall of the edge of the World! lol.
You appear so much on my home page that it didn’t even occur to me that I didn’t subscribe. Love your reactions, especially the range of topics you react to!
Thank you so much! Yea I have done the same myself with channels that I watch almost daily so I completely understand. Thank you for the added support.
Hey Ethan, I've seen a few of your videos as they've popped up on my timeline but I've only just subscribed. Firstly, I haven't watched your and your wifes visit to the UK videos yet but I will do and I hope you had a great time and enjoyed the UK while you were here. Fortunately you got some good weather, weather we're still having I might add. Secondly, there is a couple of awesome historical videos if you are interested in all aspects of the UK, the first one is "how to win the victoria cross" and the second is "the greatest raid of them all", both are hosted by the brilliant Jeremy Clarkson and are so worth watching it's hard to express. I know it's not your usual area but they really are exceptional documentaries and they are worth watching even if you watch in your personal time and don't create a reaction video. Enjoy the rest of your week mate.
Instead of television comedy there's a huge variety of radio comedy. e.g. I'm Sorry I haven't a Clue (Spoof panel show been going for over 30 years), Cabin Pressure, Just a Minute. Going way-way back there's Round the Horne, Hancock's Half Hour, The Goon Show (this very heavily influenced Monty Python); these are very culturally related. There's a BBC radio stream, BBC4Extra, which I believe is available world-wide, has a lot of British radio comedy. The televison comedy sketch show, Goodness Gracious Me, started on the radio with one of the best ever sketches, 'Going for an English'. The first time I heard this I was crying with laughter. Of course I forgot to add that wholly remarkable book, only available from Megadodo Publications,YES! 'The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy' was first and foremost a radio programme!
Great reaction mate, loving the content so far! If you're not familiar with Burkina Faso(west African country), you should definitely watch the documentary on Thomas Sankara-The Upright Man. It's not something to react to, unless you find a condensed vid,but it's definitely worth looking at, it's amazing what he achieved there, and it's a crime that we're not all taught about him💜
Hello Ethan. After the last couple of videos I have a picture in mind of your Mrs. laughing off camera. Keep up the good work, but you could hardly go wrong with this.
Britain invaded Peru in 1824 to recover dept from Spain and help to cause their independence. Norway was on Napoleans side >1814 with Sweden and also got visited
He uses 1588 as an example for defeating the Spanish, and while we did win that battle, we have heard from them since - they dealt us a much bigger blow the following year. ua-cam.com/video/qb344IINDBE/v-deo.html
Al really does know his stuff! I know he can come across as a bit arrogant to non-brits - probably to some Brits too come to think of it, but he is playing a character - the Pub Landlord> Guv. Al himself is very different to his on-stage persona, which just makes his character all the better!
you should watch horrible histories !!! its a bbc history comedy for kids but got really popular with adults (if u only want to watch a few mins "stupid deaths" is a good start with the show.... hope u dont mind stage gore)
Ethan it's good to see you learning about the British sense of humour. When you and your lovely lady visit you will have a sound footing. Just remember we take the Mickey out of each other as well as ourselves, so dont think we are being rude. Take care ❤🇬🇧
There is a mistake: he confuses Uganda with Tanganika. Uganda was never a German colony. In fact, it was never a British colony, either, it was a British Protectorate. We turned up, and nobody there particularly minded us taking it over. We did, however, help them drive out French Catholic missionaries and those they had converted to Papism, so that counts as well.
@ Johan Öhgren. Did you see the video yesterday about Rugby League played in what used to be Danelaw? We still say barn for kid in Yorkshire by the way.
@TheRenaissanceman65 not really. You defeated the Great Heathen Army, yes. But descendents of scandinavians became lords in many northern areas. So, we became Brittish. The ones of us that stayed that is.
The only Viking colony that remains with a Norse language and cultural identity is Iceland. Everywhere else they either got reconquered from in England and Scotland, and the Faroe and Shetland Islands and the Isle of Man, or they got assimilated into the people they conquered, in Russia, Normandy, Aragon (Catalonia in Spain), Rome and Sicily. The Norse Greenland colony died out in the 15th century, killed by the Little Ice Age which caused the Thames to freeze over every winter for several decades so that people could skate on it and hold winter festivals on the ice. But at least the name remains, even though it is now peopled exclusively by Inuit, plus a few USAF personnel and international scientists. If they had survived, they might have been in a position to people North America once it was discovered, although accounts dispute who was there first, English and Basque cod fishermen and whalers, or that Genoese slave-trading genocider Columbus.
@MidWest Americans: G'day Ethan! Not sure if you've already reacted to Bill Bailey or not, but I stumbled across a pretty good one of his (thanks UA-cam algorithm) - very well done, with quite a bit of preparation too! Bill plays piano / keyboard and quite a few other instruments. I think you'll like this one - maybe your better half might get a few giggles in too! Have a look if you're interested ... Bill Bailey Cockney Motifs in Classical Music (ua-cam.com/video/GcaPABgew_k/v-deo.html) - cheers from DownUnder (Sydney, Australia). Love the content dude - keep it up!
@@midwestamericans3806 It's very good and personally I enjoy it more than his stand up. Having some fun characters behind the bar and his regular customers.
Uganda? I think you'll find us 🇬🇧 took that neck of the woods without the help of the Germans. He's got it confused with Tanganyika & somewhat confused by Burkino Faso which those French people colonised. The Germans mostly had a pop at the rest of Europe. It's nothing for any of us to be especially proud of, although it was inevitable.
I don’t think this was a history lecture, try searching “history of the British empire”. This was someone playing a “character” of a drunken pub landlord. Hope that helps 👍.
I think Al would be the first to admit he got Uganda and Burkina Faso wrong. They were British. But to be fair throw a dart at a map of Africa and Al would be right.
Ethan, look at the map behind you and wonder how such a small insignificant country could rule 1/4 of the population of the world. We seem good at fighting
Murray is wrong about Belgium. He mentions the Duchy of Burgundy and the territorial break-up after Napoleon was defeated, Burgundy is in the south west of France, where Bordeaux is. He should have said the Duchy of Brabant. I know royal families were spread out in strange places, ie the name Orange in William of Orange king of the Netherlands comes from a defunct dukedom in Provence, south east France but I'm sure he miss-spoke
@TheRenaissanceman65 You're correct. I thought I knew something, I was wrong. I bow to your superior knowledge. (Still stand by the Brabant thing until you make me look like a dick about the too though)
Name a country, alright let’s start with A. A for Afghanistan. 200 years ago we got our asses kicked and today we are going to hand Afghanistan back to the taliban.
I must admit I didn't like Al Murray in the early days and that's simply because the 'Pub Landlord' character is done so well that he's entirely unlikeable. It's only having listened to and watched the REAL Al Murray on radio and TV that I am able to 'forgive' the character and appreciate the humour.
He's wrong again. Uganda was the Protectorate of Uganda, a protectorate of the British Empire from 1894 to 1962. In 1893, the Imperial British East Africa Company transferred its administration rights of territory, consisting mainly of the Kingdom of Buganda, to the British government. If It was ever German, it wasn't in 1919 Saying things fast and moving on before you're challenged doesn't make you clever if the thing you're saying is wrong
And once again, you prove why you’re my favourite “learning” reaction channel. Absolutely keep it up!
He's not only very funny, but he actually has a history degree from Oxford university .once again another good video 🇬🇧👍
Yeah he did state that at the start of the video
He also makes history TV shows
Don’t think I’ve ever seen an American with a map close by!

or that can read one.
Awesome. Best to remember that Al Murry is the comedian playing The pub landlord as a character
Now you've got a grasp on his humour, please check out his "How Global Finance Works" it's 20 mins long, but worth it. Its hilarious!

Important to note that this is The Pub Landlord, which is a character played by Al Murray. Very important.
You gotta check out Al Murray what hell is like in different countries. 😆
Nice one! Can’t remember if I recommended this one or not, but fanTASTic!! Watch his other stuff, you may learn history without realising it!
This is his character The Pub Landlord.
It's good to hear you've grown up and understand our comedy. Haha.
Jimmy Carr, both in stand-up and also in the panel show '8 out of 10 Cats does Countdown'
hahah ok im gunna sit back and watch. looool.

Al Murray why it is called Great Britain and Nations of the world. And Al Murray vs Americans. Keep up the good work.
just to put you straight , what you are watching is ' the pub landlord' it's a character that Al Murray plays
Yeah, so many people in the comments section seem to think this was a history lecture. Strange, imo. I just hope the don’t click on some move clips 😲!
Just keep making great content Ethan, keep it diverse!
Please look at Victoria Wood. She was a national treasure.
So wish he was my history teacher! I might not have skived off so much 🏴🤣👍

also burkina faso was not a german colony either it was french
Yes! The British built the Uganda Railway from 1899-1905. Why would they do that if it was a German colony?
@TheRenaissanceman65 Tanzania is a union between Tanganyika and Zanzibar.
Brittain used to be a Scandinavian supply run.....
Now fight me...🇸🇪🤣
Britain not Brittain :P looking on the funny side of things I feel like we just got sick of being an invasion spot and just snapped XD
Now Denmark is a Swedish beer run
@ Johan Öhgren. Did you see the video yesterday about Rugby League played in what used to be Danelaw? We still say barn for kid in Yorkshire by the way.
