You’ve done it again……made me hungry! We are retired and have to budget so hearing how you manage your finances is very interesting. Thanks for being so honest. All the best Sheila & Gavin
Thanks Sheila and Gavin😀 We hope it's helpful, especially perhaps for people who would like to travel or spend some Winter months in Spain, and think it might be beyond their budget😀 One thing we found was that the older people we met travelling (when we were younger) most definitely knew how to budget😀 Cheers, Brian and Rhona😀
Enjoyed the video , Brian and Rhona; I completely get your point about spending time away from our cold and dark winter . Thanks for your tips. Your saving also by not having huge energy bills too. Love your cooking bits as well. You both look more relaxed ! X claire
Thanks Claire😀 Yeah, were more than halfway through our stay here and it's working it's magic😀. Then when we head up the coast a bit we're ready for a bit of buzz😀 Cheers, Brian and Rhona😀
Lovely video, everytime we watch you, last year and this ,we spend the next hour planning how we can do this, did 5 weeks last year, was wonderful but we govened by school hols as I work in a school😢xxx
Thanks Jackie😀 Rhona used to work in a school as well. Our trips just got longer and longer every time😀. It was the people we met who were much older (and more experienced travellers than us) who sort of inspired us to reorganise to travel more. Often they were starting to have health issues by that time, and knew their travel days were coming to an end (as ours will). They always said do it as early as you can😀 Cheers, Brian and Rhona😀
Hi Colin😀 We once met a great guy at a ferry port. He had worked hard, sold his business and retired very early. He told us that some of his family had said he was just an old hippy😀 He pointed out that he had already worked a lifetime of hours by the time he packed it in😀. I've no doubt that influenced some of the choices we made😀 Cheers, Brian and Rhona😀
Thank you😀 Well I wish we could take credit for entirely deciding to reshape our lives but it was partly driven by circumstance. I'm not sure if we would have been brave enough otherwise. Either way it works😀 Cheers, Brian and Rhona😀
Wish we were close to somewhere we could go during winter by driving to warmer weather. Good on you for going to Spain, we would. We are flying to Australia and Rarotonga this year to avoid some winter. Unfortunately, you have to fly to get to another country from New Zealand. Keep doing what you are doing, enjoy 😊
Thank you😀 Yeah, we quite often think about how Europe is like the USA in a way, because they can Ski in one country and drive to another and be on a sunny beach, within a few days!😀. Little bit harder from the UK, but no flying at least😀 Cheers, Brian and Rhona😀
Great to see you enjoying your time in Spain, and like your lifestyle choice. We retired early and have to be prudent, but not regretting it, and enjoying the Spanish sun in the Tarifa area at the mo. Safe travels. 👍🏻
Thanks Ian😀 Yeah, I think that's what we're trying to say really😀. You don't have to be rich to do it😀. The older (than we were) people we met early on knew every single place they could get a 1 euro coffee and things like that😀 Cheers, Brian and Rhona😀
I love my campervan and my caravan in warmer weather and it has crossed my mind to go to southern spain in the campervan for the warmer weather. The reason why we haven't is my analysis of the cost of going in the campervan and the time travelling, as opposed to jumping on an aeroplane with a package flight. Just from the NE of England you are talking about £550 diesel return, plus the Channel Tunnel, plus the food and the hassle of buying the food and a lesser quality of accommodation in the van. Camp site costs etc. We have just come back from Benidorm in a 4 star hotel for10 days to get a bit of warmer weather like you. Straight there in 2 1/2 hours, all food supplied by the Hotel, laundered towels, cleaned room every day, gym, sauna, big hotel room with a shower, electricity, television, wifi etc. all for £1170. We shall continue to just use our liesure vehicles at home, in Englands warmer months, it just makes more sense.
Hi Steve😀 I think the main difference is that we're here for two or three months rather than 10 days😀. Each to their own, but there are thousands of people from the UK doing this every Winter (most of them waaay more financially astute than we are)😀. Also I'm sure they all prefer to be in their vans/motorhomes rather than a hotel. Freedom and all that😀 Cheers, Brian and Rhona.
@RobbotheHighlander yes, I suppose if you are there for many months it makes more sense. I could do it being retired ( 65 ) but the wife still works as a nurse, being much younger than me, so our joint position is different to yours. I remember a few decades ago my parents used to go to Benidorm for 12 weeks or so in a hotel, when it was out of season, extremely cheaply but that opportunity is not here these days. Have fun !
Hi Steve😀 Oddly, hiring an apartment here for three months and flying would probably cost about the same as driving etc. I think that for us (at the moment) the travel is part of the fun really😀 We also go to three different places, so there's that as well I suppose😀 Cheers, Brian and Rhona.
@RobbotheHighlander What price is a hard standing with hook up at say Benidorm ? We won't always be in the position we are now. As I am getting older, UK winters seem to get longer and longer and less bearable. It could be something to plan for the future.
Hi Steve, I checked Camping Villasol recently. For about 40 nights Jan/Feb this year it was Euro 22.50 a night plus electricity. I think they were charging about 49 cents a kilowatt. I'm sure the campsites a bit further from the town would be cheaper though.
Looks like you’ve both got the work life balance just right , I’m finding after a lifetime of self employed and like you not yet drawing a state pension it’s hard to say no to work but I’m working on it 👍
Hi Neil😀 Yeah, I was self employed for the last 20 years of work. I still remember the slight dread I felt the first time I said no to a job (actually about a years work) and we took off for a month on a motorcycle😃. Turned out there was still work when we got back and we felt a whole lot better😃 Cheers, Brian and Rhona😃
Really enjoying your trips, looking forward to the how you do it financially video, 3€ for a pair of flip flops you should have bought some flip flips only 1€
Thanks Steve😀 Our tyre inflator is a VonHaus. I just got it on Amazon. It's pretty old now, so I'm sure there are better ones now. One thing I found was that when using it's own battery it struggles to get up to 79psi (it's rated to 125psi). Now I only use it's 12v cable. I also bought a 12v extension cable so I can use the vans leisure battery 12v socket (which is in the back on these vans) rather than the vehicles starter battery 12v socket. The vans and Elddis CV40😀 Cheers, Brian and Rhona 😀

It was 19.5C in Scotland Sunday 😂. Ice cream selling weather . Next weekend skiing weather. Enjoy 😅
Hi Stephen😀
Yeah we saw that😀 Sunday was nice here, but I don't think it was 19.5😀

thank you for your reply i will take a look. What make is your van as we are looking to down size ours once again cheers Steve@@RobbotheHighlander
Hi Steve, the van is an Elddis CV40. I think most dealers sell their own version of it (slightly different trim and colours)😀
