  • A super weird trick to transfer ballpoint ink patterns to just about any flat surface. Not sure when or if it will ever come in handy but I thought it was too cool to pass up.

    The ingredient that allows the transfer is propylene glycol. A very common ingredient in many products like soap,deodorant,and other personal hygiene products.

    Hey everyone, I am a tattoo artist and would like to share sum info that may help. Its the alcohol in the speed stick that causes the design to transfer. You can also tape the pattern to whatever you are transferring your design onto and put rubbing alcohol onto a cloth or piece of paper towel and rub over the top of design making sure it completely soaks through paper. Detol can also be used.

    I use templates all the time and sometimes transfer with carbon paper, but don't always have it on hand- this'll be super useful someday when I run out! Thanks for the great tip!!

    you can't use the dry pastey deodorant asnd we used sdpeedstick as itt didn't have as much perfume in it. That was in my apprenticeship sassy back in the 90's tattoo era. I still use it even with the newer transfer methods as I think it smears lesd.

    It's because of the alcohol that allows the the ink to bleed the ink off the paper. The glycerin allows it not smear. And honestly you can also dab alcohol pad over it gently to get missing pieces to. Try carbon paper.

    • @TabLeft

      Tyler McMinn I’ve tried alcohol but it made it bleed horribly. As for carbon paper on many surfaces it would be ideal, wouldn’t work well for fabric, leather, skin etc. Plus carbon paper is actually kinda hard to find outside of a dedicated office supply store these days.

    Have you played with this trying to print something on an inkjet or laser jet and get it to transfer?

    • @TabLeft
      @TabLeft  7 років тому

      +Charles Reiche not yet but I will. If I’m printing on an inkjet I just use the Avery label trick, and on a laser jet you can use heat or acetone to transfer. But I still want to know of the deodorant works :)

    Does it work with a printed image aswell

    • @TabLeft
      @TabLeft  7 років тому +1

      Peter Warren I’m not really sure. I’ve only tried with ball point pens. I imagine that if it works it would probably work best with inkjet printers, but I’m not honestly sure.
