I love this idea.
Thank you Marius
I loved it too. Watched Marius' video, but didn't like the Neutrik connectors for their size (and price) so I found IEC connectors and your video. I will be using locking IEC connectors for my tools. Thanks guys :)
Andreas Lied only one thing
those IEC Plugs (C13/14) are for cold devices, that will not produce "heat" - so don't fiddle them on your heatgun or shopvac - for such devices you need to use C15/16 those are compatble but have additional notch to prevent plugging them in "cold" sockets
also those are rated to only 2,2 kW so if your device draws more (unlikely) you can't use them
Thanks for the tips suit! I have checked most of the tools, and the only ones that will not be included in my diy adventure are angle grinder and a few heavier corded drills. BTW I absolutely love DOTT. Looking very much forward to the re-release of full throttle. I imagine that you are too. 👍🙂
Hah, maybe this was your inspiration for your system now? ;)
Been searching for a solution like this for weeks. Best I've ever seen. Thanks for your ingenuity. Off to get 20 connectors now 😀
Glad you found it useful
Love this! Especially the router.
I've thought about doing this before, and after seeing this, I think I will. At least once I get a overhead vacuum system.
Thanks Jeremy, the overhead vacuum works great
This is brilliant, I don't know why it hadn't occurred to me before! Got loads of those IECs connectors lying around too. Great video 👍
The dramatic acting at the beginning was awesome! Cool vid and great idea for this system!
He, he, as this was a non narrated video, I figured I had to make a point. Thanks for watching and commenting Sir
Bellevue Woodshop point well made and cu it reminded me of an infomercial person acting! 👍🏻👍🏻😂😂
I loved this idea so much that i bought 12 of these and converted my most used tools. Thank you so much!
Thank you for watching and commenting James.
Outstanding! Great upgrade. Cords are the bane of a workshop. Right up there with batteries.
Thanks, it works great this far
Best Idea I have seen in a long time also makes the tools easier to store. Thanks for sharing
Thanks Alan, glad you like it, and thank you for commenting and for watching
I have used this idea for years after seeing how festool do it. I wouldn't go back. I tend to leave a bit of a tail on the cord, about 4 inches. In the workshop or on the jobsite, I only have one cord out, much neater and safer.
Glad to hear that your experience is positive with this kind of modification, thanks for watching and commenting
I wish they'd make ALL tools like that! And that's a pretty well working established standard connector too.
Thank you
I used the same plugs to remove all my leads. I left a short tail on all the tools so I can still have them tested for job site use. Love not having leads when packing up and leaving the cable plugged in and just swapping tools. I've done half of my tools so far and will do all the others one day.
Big plus is if you damage or cut a lead, just unplug it and use another.
You have some good points there. Glad to hear that you have been using it for a longer period, and are still happy, Should be soothing for other wanting to try the same
Great project! I'm constantly swearing at my cords. I like the extra thought you put in to making them usable away from the table too. They do make a 'sock' for built-in home vacuum systems that'd cover over that hose and hide the cord nicely too. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks. Those socks are great. Chris over at +toolify showed how to make one ua-cam.com/video/ZrWmAxFDChc/v-deo.html
This is the kind of things that makes life easier!
Glad you found it useful Alberto
That is really nice! simple and effective!
Thank you Cosmas, would have liked a recessed socket on all the tools, but the handle was a little to small, and I did not feel like hacking into the more expensive tools
Yeah that would be even more slick. But I don't think that would be worth it.
Bellevue Woodshop powercon connectors used in production lighting for theatres and entertainment might work a bit better. they're smaller and locking.
I just stumbled on this video and immediately bought those connectors on amazon! Big thumbs up to you, sir!
Thanks, glad you found it useful
Makita needs to hire you or at least pay attention to your videos...brilliant.
Makita doesn't care they know they make a great product and dont need to pay anyone to push their products for example:The Samurai Carpenter
I think he meant for the ideas such as this. simple addition that makes a world of difference.
yeah i can see that. But given that he's copying Festool's design the idea is already out there (And is canister vacuums for decades)
I feel like there is a patent for it somehow cause i dont know why others woudent.. either way look like ill be copying him copy them...
I think he's done one better than Festool as he has used a standard "euro" style power connector which you can purchase anywhere.
Thanks Rick, that would have been a GREAT idea, thanks for watching and commenting
.......
You sir are a genius of epic proportions. You make me wanna cry, and now I am gonna have to make that happen to everything I own. Like, how has no one else thought of doing it themselves like that? I hate putting away all my tools and having cords everywhere to wind up or roll up or stick out of the drawer while I am trying to close it, or the cabinet door. I .... I just have to go do this. Thank you.
Well thank you very much for those generous words, it is much appreciated. There are some videos online of some similar conversions, but I have not seen them using these connectors, or recessing them into the tool. Thank you for watching and commenting
It would be awesome if you could provide links in the description to some of those parts. Holy cow, I was telling my landlord about this idea today and he loved it.
I just had a thought, I bet one could set it up so that the current was monitored through the wire from the ceiling, and it would automatically turn on the dust collection when you powered any device with the cord, and turned it off like 5 seconds after you stop using the device. You know, just to make it more user friendly. :D Less vacuum noise in the shop
see a problem and solve it! thats craftsmen in a nutshell!😎 very nice job !!!!
Thank you for the kind feedback Gary
Smooth criminal. Nice, impressive
Thanks😀
I have thought this would be a great idea for some time. Kudo's to you for having the stones to dice up a perfectly good tool.
Thank you for commenting and watching.
Did this one for all my tools recently, I'd recommend als using a plug with locking mechanism
Great idea. I hate cords! This makes storing power tools so much less aggravating if you don't have to deal with the cord.
Thanks Justin, yes you are correct, just put it away without having to coil the cord on every tool
By far the best shop video I've ever seen! Keep uploading!
Thank you very much for that generous comment Mark, it is much appreciated
Add a voltage sensing relay to turn your vacume on when the tool is turned on and you will always have dust collection when your running your tools
There is actually i port on my cheapo shopvac that has this sensing built in, so I might just have to run a wire to it, and just drop the remote for the shop vac....that never seem to be around
If you dont have anything like this, there are Master Slave Units Available online. I made A Master Slave Extension cord with A Master and A slave port at the end. Cuz the ubit on my Shop vac is Totally Broken
Good idea combining both power and dust collection and the pigtail leads.
Good video.
Thank you
Awesome idea. I know the struggle. O only have one plug in my workshop and its driving me insane!
This is pretty slick man. Such an improvement on all the tools. Love it
Thanks Paul. I love the conversion.
Makes storage easier too.
Yes Sir
I'm eagerly awaiting part 2: current sensing relay.
Seeing as how this is for dust and small chips, is there any good reason to not route the cord through the vacuum hose?
I have a current sensing port on my shopvac, and just need to run a wire to it in the other room.It oculd be done inside, never thought of that, but there is a small potential for clogging if used as a vacuum hose for the floor with chips. hmmmm....never thought of that.....
id been looking at a way to maybe 3d print some plug it female connectors as the festool female adaptors are typically too expensive and for the two festool tools the plugits in the minority but this... so obvious! great work!!! superb problem solving. Hats off to you sir!!!
Thank you very much for the kind words Jamie
"Hand Claps" nicely done!!!
Thank you very much Austin
Bellevue Woodshop+ Just what I have planned to do for long. Do not understand why more brands have feestools systems.
Thanks Lars, its a quick fix,. If you go with the "pigtail" , and ever change your mind, its a quick fix to replace the cord with the original one
Are you from Norway?
Yup, that is correct
Awesome, back to my shed again! Thank for sharing.
Thanks for watching and commenting
Very clever as always
Thank you very much, glad you like it
Brilliant. Human ingenuity at play!
Thank you very much
Awesome idea and video. Greetings from Austria.
Thanks
I love this idea. I did it to a few of my Sanders, and noticed that the shorter the cord was on the tool the more rigid it was. And the dust collector hose either caused the cord to pull out or vice versa if you didn’t get that cord/hose length ratio perfectly the same on every tool. Not sure why Dewalt doesn’t just sell there’s.
Thanks, it has worked great this far😄👍
Put an IEC "Lock+" connector on your extension cord and it will never pull out when you don't want it to. I converted my sanders and have no problem when using the locking connector. I got my IEC Lock+ PA130100BK from Amazon.
what a great introduction... and a fantastic idea, greetings from Germany
Thank you very much
Nice! i can really recommend Neutrik PowerCon connectors for this! Probably more expensive, but they lock securely (and are still cheaper than PlugIt). Converted my little Makita palm sander with them. Very happy with it. Still have to do the rest of my tools though 😂
Thanks, I will check them out
That's pretty slick! I'm tempted to do that to my tools.
Thanks
Спасибо. Простое решение, но очень нужное. Удачи и благополучия.
Большое спасибо за добрые отзывы
Simple and effective as always, thank you.
Thanks Geoff, as always:)
What a brilliant idea, I'm gonna do that to some of my corded tools that's for sure! :-)
Thanks Morten, glad you like it
Fantastic solution
good job
Thank you Jordi
Knipex ftw! 😀
Yup, great tool
super solution!
Thank you Mirock
Thanks!
Was thinking this might work despite the fact that plug and socket don't lock together like the Neutrik system but a my (hobby) level I don't think that's an issue. The main criterion will be current rating.
Have just bought 5 pairs rated at 10A will also look for 15/16 amp items as none of my appliances is rated higher than that.
well that's neat but instead of iec 320 i would use connectors with twist lock action, something like legrand twist lock or numa l6 series, they are not cheap but i think can provide some extra reliability... gonna try this hack :)
Thanks. I googled them after reading this comment, and see that they are usable, but maybe a little bulky. Someone suggested using PowerCon, They look good as well
I might need to do this.
I think you should try it:)
wow this is amazing and makes all your tools super modular and future proof. I would really really like to do this but most of my tools are still under warranty and this would void it. nevertheless great idea and we'll excecuted. thanks for sharing!
Thanks. Yes you are correct, it will. But you can exchange the powercord for a new one, and then keep the old one, if you want to revert it back to original
I know what I'm doing on a weekend soon... voiding warranties!
Have a great weekend
Really wish tools works either come this way, or these aftermarket companies would try a bit harder to make both ends as small as possible.
Если бы все произврдители электроинстумента перешли на такую систему, это огромная экономия ресурсов. Производители зарядных устройств для мобилок это уже сделали.
Большое спасибо за добрые слова
That is a very smart idea
Thanks Stig
you're welcome.
Super-great idea AND execution 👹
Thank you
Creative, fun, useful...another typical BW video!
Thanks Tom for the kind feedback, glad you like it
Being an Electrician I can tell you it's a great idea but not allowed here in Canada. It would be just for yourself to use..Definitely convenient.
Probably not allowed here in Norway as well, but, hey, its for private use. thanks for watching
I would do the same for myself
I'm curious what is the part "not allowed?"
Very nice system, looks a lot like marius's system.
Thank you
Bellevue Woodshop i realised later that you probably must have thought of it at the same time! :-)
I released this video 6 months ago, but really like Marius´ idea as well
Sumptuously. I will take note for myself. Laik.
really clever hack!
Thank you Henning
Гениально просто доступно легко.👍👍👍👏👏👏
Большое спасибо
Great idea!
Thank you Lars
Your work, inspired me.
Thank you for the kind feedback
Good job.
Thank you
awesome build. i was just wondering if you touched the plug coming from the wall would you get shocked?
Very clever. Bravo
Ingenious!
Thanks Frank
pretty cool stuff..
Thank you Tom
Absolutely love it, jeep up the great work!
Thanks Dana
Simple and useful!!
I love it
Genius!
Thank you for the generous comment
Great idea Thank you !!!!
Thank you for watching and commenting
Très bonne idée, excellent !
Merci beaucoup d'avoir regardé et commenté
Outstanding!!
Excellent job, especially on the router. Unfortunately, I'm afraid you may have voided their warrantees.
Thank you. Warranty period on the sanders are over, and the router was a 10 usd find, so no problem there
genius!
Thank you Evangelos
Muy buena idea.
Me encanta tu ingenio.
Gracias Enrique, me alegra que te guste y gracias por mirar
отличная идея и исполнение тоже
Большое спасибо за добрые слова
You should tell that "You may loose the product warranty" :v
Btw, good tutorial!
Another great one 👍
Thank you Jérémie
Smart!
Thanks
liked the intro kkkkk.hilarious - great idea
Thanks
can you show how you made that adaptor for the makita orbital sander to fit the hose?
I just made a plywood plug with the outer diameter the same as the inner diameter of the shopvac hose. The attachment on the sanders has a slight taper, so I just drilled the hole in the adapter plug the same as the thinnest part , and used a dremel to sand it taper. than it is just a friction fit. i glued the plug inside the hose with epoxy
Besides the brilliant idea, for which Makita owes you a real fat bonus, isn't there an easier way to ruin a sanding machine? :)
Превосходно!
Fantastic!!!
Thanks
Does having the connection close to the tool and work seem to be cumbersome ? Will the overhead hose ever be in the way? I have really been wanting to install overhead features to my work bench but i am hesitant.
I have yet to find any disadvantages with the overhead hose or cable connection
super sweet !
Thanks
Brillant !!!
one question : did you considere they AMP (like 10AMP or 15 AMP) for the plug ? Did i have to pay attention ?
Thanks for sharing this is awesome
Thanks Mario.
The plugs are rated for 10A
would rather have a locking connector though
good job... I think I'm gonna copy you
Thank you, be my guest:)
veldig kult! hvor kjøper du de støpslene? du har nå mye gode løsninger. synes du er helt på høyde med de beste på youtube!
Takk for sjenerøs tilbakemelding Geir. Jeg kjøpte mine på ebay
brilliant
Thanks
geile idee
Thanks
Good stuff, as always :) Mange takk!
Thank you Sir. Det var bare hyggelig
I did this years ago in U.S. with 15A twist-lock connectors, but the only ones I could source were so small that they could barely accommodate the 12 gauge wire of the power cords I used on my jobs. Has anyone else found U.S. 110V connectors (preferably twist lock) that will work like the ones in this video?
Someone suggested using PowerCon, they have twist lock
Do you happen to have a name or part number for those smaller ones? The size is my only complaint about these.
you might not have a festool tool but if u have a knipex side cutter your set for 10 years, if you dont loose it
Yup, they are great
Excellent...
Cheers...
Thanks Adam
awsome
Thanks
Oh! I want to give this 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 and a ❣
Thank you James. Glad you liked it
super
Thanks
