      I loved it too. Watched Marius' video, but didn't like the Neutrik connectors for their size (and price) so I found IEC connectors and your video. I will be using locking IEC connectors for my tools. Thanks guys :)

      @suit1337 7 років тому +3

      Andreas Lied only one thing
      those IEC Plugs (C13/14) are for cold devices, that will not produce "heat" - so don't fiddle them on your heatgun or shopvac - for such devices you need to use C15/16 those are compatble but have additional notch to prevent plugging them in "cold" sockets
      also those are rated to only 2,2 kW so if your device draws more (unlikely) you can't use them

      Thanks for the tips suit! I have checked most of the tools, and the only ones that will not be included in my diy adventure are angle grinder and a few heavier corded drills. BTW I absolutely love DOTT. Looking very much forward to the re-release of full throttle. I imagine that you are too. 👍🙂

    I have used this idea for years after seeing how festool do it. I wouldn't go back. I tend to leave a bit of a tail on the cord, about 4 inches. In the workshop or on the jobsite, I only have one cord out, much neater and safer.

    I wish they'd make ALL tools like that! And that's a pretty well working established standard connector too.

  • @NathanNostaw
    @NathanNostaw 7 років тому

    I used the same plugs to remove all my leads. I left a short tail on all the tools so I can still have them tested for job site use. Love not having leads when packing up and leaving the cable plugged in and just swapping tools. I've done half of my tools so far and will do all the others one day.
    Big plus is if you damage or cut a lead, just unplug it and use another.

    Great project! I'm constantly swearing at my cords. I like the extra thought you put in to making them usable away from the table too. They do make a 'sock' for built-in home vacuum systems that'd cover over that hose and hide the cord nicely too. Thanks for sharing!

    You sir are a genius of epic proportions. You make me wanna cry, and now I am gonna have to make that happen to everything I own. Like, how has no one else thought of doing it themselves like that? I hate putting away all my tools and having cords everywhere to wind up or roll up or stick out of the drawer while I am trying to close it, or the cabinet door. I .... I just have to go do this. Thank you.

    • @kaoshavoc
      @kaoshavoc 7 років тому

      I just had a thought, I bet one could set it up so that the current was monitored through the wire from the ceiling, and it would automatically turn on the dust collection when you powered any device with the cord, and turned it off like 5 seconds after you stop using the device. You know, just to make it more user friendly. :D Less vacuum noise in the shop

    I'm eagerly awaiting part 2: current sensing relay.
    Seeing as how this is for dust and small chips, is there any good reason to not route the cord through the vacuum hose?

    • @bellevuesnekkeri
      @bellevuesnekkeri  7 років тому +2

      I have a current sensing port on my shopvac, and just need to run a wire to it in the other room.It oculd be done inside, never thought of that, but there is a small potential for clogging if used as a vacuum hose for the floor with chips. hmmmm....never thought of that.....

    I love this idea. I did it to a few of my Sanders, and noticed that the shorter the cord was on the tool the more rigid it was. And the dust collector hose either caused the cord to pull out or vice versa if you didn’t get that cord/hose length ratio perfectly the same on every tool. Not sure why Dewalt doesn’t just sell there’s.

    Was thinking this might work despite the fact that plug and socket don't lock together like the Neutrik system but a my (hobby) level I don't think that's an issue. The main criterion will be current rating.
    Have just bought 5 pairs rated at 10A will also look for 15/16 amp items as none of my appliances is rated higher than that.

      I just made a plywood plug with the outer diameter the same as the inner diameter of the shopvac hose. The attachment on the sanders has a slight taper, so I just drilled the hole in the adapter plug the same as the thinnest part , and used a dremel to sand it taper. than it is just a friction fit. i glued the plug inside the hose with epoxy

    I did this years ago in U.S. with 15A twist-lock connectors, but the only ones I could source were so small that they could barely accommodate the 12 gauge wire of the power cords I used on my jobs. Has anyone else found U.S. 110V connectors (preferably twist lock) that will work like the ones in this video?

      Someone suggested using PowerCon, they have twist lock

      Do you happen to have a name or part number for those smaller ones? The size is my only complaint about these.
