Oil changes, transmission fluid flushes, and replacing O2 sensors are the only thing it's needed. Still runs like brand new and it's been taken care of properly.

@J Money a cvt transmission is made of bands with metal teeth, unlike the solid metal gears of traditional transmission. So when it breaks all the teeth splinter and damage the whole transmission. Basically they are weaker, and damage a bigger issue. They are getting better and Nissan has a 120k mile warranty on their transmissions which is the best in the car industry.
@J Money no problem. I like the altima. You should always make sure of that warranty, it may have been for older models and im just putting those together in my head. They’re sexy with the right color (I have the Sunset Drift color and it’s incredible). An AWD version of this car would’ve made it a sleeper, though. Missed opportunity by Nissan, but they would’ve had to make it even more expensive. And that’s where the pricing starts to enter Maxima territory and I think that’s why Nissan opted not to make the VC-Turbo trim AWD. I mean I know other manufacturers do it, so it is puzzling. Regardless, I love my SR-Turbo and it definitely turns heads. People almost wonder if it even is a Altima at times.

@@scott8238 I hope your right for your sake, my sister learned otherwise in her 2015 Pathfinder Platinum edition. My brother n law is very diligent when it comes to vehicle maintenance, and it still failed.
@Scott W. actually any design of the continuously variable transmission is not very reliable because the belt/chain system goes through a lot of stress every time the engine builds torque. CVT's are not built to last. At least with gears, each gear is used temporarily for the right amount of engine torque, and then the gear gets a break when the transmission upshifts to a higher gear. Nissan does not design their own CVT, and that third party company (Jatco or something) is a phony. Even Honda and Toyota have problems with CVT designs.
We get these all the time in our shops. It to a degree looks and definately rides better, but the interior took a hit for the worse on some aspects. Nice review Joe!
Good review Joe I think Nissan is probably going to stick with this CVT for quite some time. They've poured so much resources and time into trying to develop it. Guess they don't want to accept that people don't want it and maybe believe they'll eventually hit the mark and make it right. Anyways I've never paid much attention to nissan sedans so this video was definitely an interesting watch for me!
Noah Mascarin they will care when they see the repair costs. Especially in that new engine, I’m calling it now the VC engines will blowing up all over the place. Don’t get me started on their horrendous CVTs.
People that don't follow cars probably don't care, and will continue to make the Altima as successful as it has always been. I seriously doubt the CVT naysayers, myself included, affect Nissan's bottomline much.
I’m probably partial since I own one, but I prefer the Accord Sport 2.0T. I definitely like these sporty sedans over a SUV though. Another great review!
Thanks for another great review Joe. If this car had been available 4 months ago I may have considered it against the Accord Sport 2.0t. The 2019 Altima was not under consideration at the time of purchase. On this one, price is right, engine seems good, seats look more comfortable than the Accord, dash looks almost exactly the same, maybe better with the stitching. Yeah, everyone else here beats it up for the same reason I disqualify it...CVT. Not worried so much about reliability but, give me something to work with!!! For God’s sake. If you want a CVT in your Sentra, great! Want one in your minivan? Good call. Take the maybe +1 MPG and boogie. I think people who shop this car with a 2l turbo (hello, people here are your Target Market, Nissan) don’t want it. Maybe those people like myself are misguided. But guess what. Misguided or not, we are those people _not_ buying this car because of the transmission. Also, I don’t like how the hood line matches the front body line crease. Same thing bugs me with the VW Alteon. Cheers!
Love our 2018 Armada and my 1990 300ZX TT. 42K miles and Armada has been rock solid. 300ZX I knew better but bought it anyway years ago. With that said I would never buy a Nissan with a CVT. IMO all the CVT problems is what put Nissan in the position they are in. Consumers are not stupid they do research before they buy. Looking forward to the new Z!
Scotty's right though car manufacturers are making cars of the cheapest materials and methods they can find only to increase their profits over quality! But in the long run it's going to hurt their profits for failing to produce dependable vehicles!
You do realize Renault is the only reason Nissan has been alive for the last 20 years. When they merged Renault took on 7 billion dollars worth of their debt.

I have a 2019 sr vc turbo in ember paint . had it since november 2019.i gotta say,I love this damn car.the cvt works great with more then enough power.the engine, oh my "god".lots of power. I'm already at 16 thousand miles ,that's how much I love driving this damn car.every thing else negatively that ya'll are saying is far from the truth about this all new altima. 💯
I know it's on a bit of a different class but comparing even an Elentra GT N line to this thing for almost 10k less... Nissan's upped their game a lot on the lower end but they still have some more they can give and catch up on.
Nissan should really get rid of the CVT. For goodness sakes- why won't Nissan design a new key fob? I don't understand. Did Ghosn take the key fob budget to Lebanon with him?
No ventilated seats??? That should’ve been an automatic zonk. Don’t like the white color but that’s my own personal challenge. This car in red with ventilated seats would be perfecto. Usual outstanding work young man!!! 🤜🏻 PS - What’s with these paddles that cars have these days?? You’re in a car not a boat.
used to end up driving a 2012 dualis or qashqai with a cvt. pickup was good, maybe the cvt enabled quicker shifts. It did glitch like maybe once every two months or so. Turbo would be next level...
Multiple times over Nissan owner here for almost 20yrs. Traded in my Maxima for an insane deal on a brand new turbo that was far too good to pass (25k otd with 8 yr warranty- only time I’ve gotten right at a dealer). Do your homework and you will see Nissan may be pulling a BMW and underrating how powerful the car is so as not deter Maxima buyers. I can only use the butt test and promise the turbo would walk away from my Maxima on full tilt. I’ve seen a few owners post dyno reports which seem to confirm the power at the crank is higher than reported given that it’s actually putting the claimed power out at the wheels. Also the handling doesn’t get mentioned as often, but I have the SR version with sport suspension and this thing is easily as solid at 140MPH as my old broke down problem child 335i twin turbo was when it actually worked. All speeds reached on private roads at a friends ranch in Mexico.
I was born in 91 so I'm 91 calling for my key fob back. So could I get the keys to my Altima VC turbo! But on a side note, beings that you are doing midsize sedans lately could you do a review on the Malibu premier with the 2.0t? I would like to hear your opinion on it in comparison to the rest of the competition.
This review is making me wish I got the 2.0 instead of the 2.5 now! THANKS ALOT!!!!! :) Anyhow, I agree with nearly all zonks. The silver trim interior looks better in my SV over the carbon fiber in this one. I like having fog lights rather than that black plastic in bumper, even though it's really only for show. Also like the other features mine has over this, like great cruise control, rear vents etc...but that engine sounds nice and looks like it was fun. I did read some where, not searching at moment, this Altima trim out corners or maneuvers a BMW 3 series. Think it was Car and Driver. My SV certainly out maneuvers the lazier 15 Chrysler 200 I had. But I noticed while owning that 200C with the V6, that nearly 300hp just doesn't do much when your stuck in DC traffic on I270! So is why I chose the 2.5 over a 2.0 liter with my Altima that my dealer did have. Didn't care to have a manual transmission in that traffic as well. Heck, I couldn't even stand the rough shifting 9 speed anymore and is why I looked at CVT's. I'm just hoping to prove anyone wrong about longevity. I have already had a long conversation with the service department on proper maintenance on this vehicle. Only zonk I am going "why bother, " is the hood struts in any cars anymore. These engines are not show pieces, save the hydro hood struts for an engine that needs to be shown off.
So i own a 2016 sr and i love it. What i dont love with the 2020 is the gap between the hood and headlights. My whole hand can slide thru the gap. My nissan saleman said wait til 2021 when they redesign again
@@joebrown9621 People like to make a fashion statement, show off what they spend, so we end up with extra, expensive options on cars that serve little purpose in enhancing the vehicle's performance.
The CVT trans has singlehandedly kept me away from Nissan but let's face it, they're not getting rid of it. At this point they've invested too much money in R&D for their CVTs to just kill them off overnight. This new turbo Altima and the Maxima's tried and true V6 should be paired with a 7 speed auto to hang with the Accord/Camry.
its too bad u cant get the Turbo with the Midnight edition.. but Nissan's options and packages are set up pretty crazy. like u cant get a sunroof in a new SR, unless it's a Turbo, or a Midnight. foglights about the same way.. they need to make that stuff available across all trims. but great freakin products, the Altima, Sentra's, etc.. just got a 22 SR Sentra w/Premium, love it love it 🙂

Mazda 6 Turbo for me please.

We get these all the time in our shops. It to a degree looks and definately rides better, but the interior took a hit for the worse on some aspects. Nice review Joe!
Good review Joe
I think Nissan is probably going to stick with this CVT for quite some time. They've poured so much resources and time into trying to develop it. Guess they don't want to accept that people don't want it and maybe believe they'll eventually hit the mark and make it right.
Anyways I've never paid much attention to nissan sedans so this video was definitely an interesting watch for me!
Regular people don't care and usually don't know about what kind of transmission it is other than if it's an automatic or manual.
That's fair. I guess it'd mostly be the somewhat-car-savvy to the enthusiast that it would matter to mostly
@@Noah-ui1iu
Exactly.
I’m probably partial since I own one, but I prefer the Accord Sport 2.0T. I definitely like these sporty sedans over a SUV though. Another great review!
Great choice, it would be mine also, or the Mazda 6 Turbo.
This will be my dream vehicle to own Joe.
Cheers!
The CVT doesn't pique my interest. 😴
The Accord Sport 2.0T on the other 🖐
That media display looks familiar though haha
@Jaciee87 so weird
Thanks for sharing that great input from your experience!
The stitch work is the best part of the car
Nathan Horton it does look pretty!

Scotty's right though car manufacturers are making cars of the cheapest materials and methods they can find only to increase their profits over quality! But in the long run it's going to hurt their profits for failing to produce dependable vehicles!
Won’t go Nissan until the CVT is gone. Also, no AWD 2.0t combo. Only the 2.5 gets AWD. And Joe, props for pushing that thing so hard in the rain!
The Altima has come a long way, I love everything about the car besides the grill but that’s just me.

The new Altima just needs an 8-speed direct shift AT with torque converter and the AWD system should be available with the VC-Turbo engine. Thanks.
Very nice car Nissan has put together and very capable of a family car
The design of the Altima looks more sexy than the Honda Accord.
AGREED!
You gotta be out of goddamn mind if u think the altima looks better than the accord 😂😂
@@21vikk To me, I hate the Accord's stapler taillight design and the back slope of the roof.

Nissan needs to get away from Renault and go back to being a relaible company.
Executives have made press releases to the effect that the Nissan-Renault merger will dissolve shortly.
You do realize Renault is the only reason Nissan has been alive for the last 20 years. When they merged Renault took on 7 billion dollars worth of their debt.

I keep seeing comments about transmission issues. I've had my Altima for 13 years. It has 187k and no issues with transmission. Was I just lucky??
I think so!
Best looking one in the segment, yes cvt has a bad rep but the transmission is getting better. Dont knock it until u try it. Also do ROUTINE MAINTENANCE and it will last. I just dont know if the turbo is gona last if driven hard the cvt is main use is for daily commuting
I have a 2019 SL and I love it , jus wish I had the 19 inch wheels though
It would be nice to have the v-tech engine again
I just picked up a 2020 platinum and some features are different than this vehicle....is this a 2020 platinum turbo?
Congrats! Yes it is.
yes it is.
I'm gonna Zonk the whole Nissan brand for their obsessive overuse of the CVT's aka Endless Money Pit!!! As Scotty Kilmer would say lol
tony45x220 Nissan is just not the same.
@@RaitisRides yea their reliability used to be right up there with Toyota and Honda they've slipped since the Renault business smh
Actually before Renault they weren't selling they were declining don't listen to Scotty he talks out of his ass.
No ventilated seats??? That should’ve been an automatic zonk. Don’t like the white color but that’s my own personal challenge. This car in red with ventilated seats would be perfecto. Usual outstanding work young man!!! 🤜🏻
PS - What’s with these paddles that cars have these days?? You’re in a car not a boat.
SR is a mid grade trim level, it will not include ventilated seats on special sport faux leather trimmed seats.
Tootsie rolls, twinkies, mints, and lays chips can't go wrong with those snacks.
You absolutely correct, the CVT thing in Nissan's cars is the biggest down point, shame on Nissan!
used to end up driving a 2012 dualis or qashqai with a cvt. pickup was good, maybe the cvt enabled quicker shifts.

I would like to hear your opinion on it in comparison to the rest of the competition.
remember when Twinkies went bankrupt? It was almost the end of Twinkies forever. Ppl were very upset lol
Joe is doing his part to make twinkies relevant again.
That was certainly a traumatic time.
When u needed a friend, twinkies were there!!
The new Altimas are soo sexy but those cvt transmissions are horrible! I had a Nissan years ago and my transmission went bad under 90k smh
Give it a manual, ZF8 spd or DCT but enough with the CVT already, a RWD car would be great
This review is making me wish I got the 2.0 instead of the 2.5 now!
Thanks for sharing your great ownership input!
Nice review thank you.
You are so very welcome Jeff! Thank you for letting me share it with you!
So i own a 2016 sr and i love it. What i dont love with the 2020 is the gap between the hood and headlights. My whole hand can slide thru the gap. My nissan saleman said wait til 2021 when they redesign again
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this one Chris!
Why isn't Nissan adding led taillights to their line up? I've only seen it on the refreshed 2019 Maxima
Nissan has to save certain features for the flagship Maxima.
One of my vehicles has LED.. its over rated if my lady backs into something its way more expensive to replace and for what..
@@joebrown9621 People like to make a fashion statement, show off what they spend, so we end up with extra, expensive options on cars that serve little purpose in enhancing the vehicle's performance.
Nissan, please bring back Altima SE-R 6-speed manual.
AGREED!
Just got one and love it
its too bad u cant get the Turbo with the Midnight edition.. but Nissan's options and packages are set up pretty crazy. like u cant get a sunroof in a new SR, unless it's a Turbo, or a Midnight. foglights about the same way.. they need to make that stuff available across all trims. but great freakin products, the Altima, Sentra's, etc.. just got a 22 SR Sentra w/Premium, love it love it 🙂
