2020 Nissan Altima AWD Review - The AWD Alternative

  • Опубліковано 2 жов 2024
  • I review the 2020 Nissan Altima in its Platinum AWD trim and see how it stacks up to all the other mid-size family sedans. With a starting price of $26,375 for an AWD version and an as-tested price of $37,190, the Altima isn't as strong of a value as the less-expensive and better-equipped Subaru Legacy. But the Altima's driving dynamics have an edge over the Legacy, so for those looking for agile handling and a more normal feeling CVT, the Altima may win out. This year the AWD Toyota Camry is also coming to compete with both. Which would be your pick? Thanks to Nissan for providing this Altima to review.

      107000 isn't a lot of miles for a transmission to prove reliability and if it's a 2017 and you racked up that much miles already then the 107000 miles has to be highway miles which has less wear on the power train than city driving which makes your statement even less impressive...

      I think it's due to a recent scandal with their CEO who's the most wanted man in Japan now after he illegally escaped his confinement. Apparently he stole a lot of money behind the doors, and faked a lot of paperwork to cover his trails. After he got into Nissan few decades ago he lowered part quality to reduce costs and get a better profit, which in a way saved nissan but at a cost of their reputation. Before him Nissan was losing thousands on every car sold, and was about to collapse as a company.

As far as the interior is concerned, why can't a manufacturer just plan and install ventilated seats, and high def cameras, etc from the very start of the design? It would keep the costs down. @@2006gtobob well obviously specialty cars will have manuals and maybe even dual clutch. And yeah the lighter and lower torque the longer the cvt belt will likely last. I'd agree I'd probably rather have a traditional transmission for towing vehicles and those over 200 hp or so. What I was talking about was basic sedans and commuter vehicles. I have the 19 Altima and the cvt is perfectly mated to the engine. I won't speak to the reliability of the jatco until I have 250k miles on it which will take me 15 years. But again I saved so much money on initial purchase and mpg I can easily afford a cvt replacement in 8-10 years if that even fails.

    I have a 19 Altima SL. No rattles. Cvt perfectly smooth except around torque lock up speed. Winter screws up everyone's mileage. In the summer I was getting 34 mpg mixed driving. Now I'm getting 29. Ethenol is a scam. I like the blind spot on the pillar. It is a much bigger light than those on a mirror. My wife's suv has it on the mirror and I hate it. Maybe manufacturers should do both spots. I love the adaptive cruise control for heavy commute traffic. It works 90% of the time. The only bad scenario is when you are going 80mph up to completely stopped traffic. It will probably stop in time but I wouldn't trust it! White knuckle stops aren't my thing. It also accelerates slowly to save gas. You can also use ACC when checking blind spots as the car will stop itself if the person brakes while you are looking at the blind spot. Why would the computer always jack rabbit a hard acceleration from a full stop? You can always feather the accelerator if you want to go faster from a dead stop. And finally I got $5000 off my SL including $2000 in rebates. So that made it far cheaper than any other option. They also had zero % financing for 36 months. And they gave me at least $1500 over market value for my trade. I live in the snow belt so I wanted AWD to hopefully save me another $600 for extra rims and $600 every 3 years on snow tires. So I felt this review was a little too harsh. Most of these vehicles are so close in value I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. But if you NEED AWD and you get a killer deal the Altima is a great option.

      No, he's wrong. Nissan has mostly ironed out their CVT's issues. Their CVT developed a reputation because they were one of first to explore the tech and make them mainstream, back when the technology was still unreliable and not well understood. Since then, they've really improved not only the reliability, they've also made them perform better. Toyota's current 6 and 8 and speed transmissions are worse than CVTs in many ways. Many owners have complained about Toyota's transmission, but Scotty will trash Nissan and not Toyota for the problems they've had.

    There was a time that i loved my Altimas over any accord, this was before they slapped a cvt on them on 2007! 🤢 now the accord is leagues beyond the altimas specially the 2.0’s with the 10spd autos or even a manual offering. I dont know what they’re doing but Nissan needs a comeback big time, because they’re doing horrible and the depreciation on their vehicles is horrendous

    You bring up a lot of great points with the short-comings of the "safety" systems in these new cars. The systems are being marketed to convince buyers that they are driving the safest vehicle but in real-life driving situations some of them don't work all that great. Even on my MX5 I keep the Lane Departure Warning turned off because I found it to be too sensitive. It's a sports car so you should be able to drive it to the edge of the road especially on curvy roads.

    I’m so sorry guys. But this channel has become a Nissan apologist circus. Reports show on average Nissan cvt trans fail at around 60k miles. Not only that, but Nissan was forced to extend their warranty because of their terrible recalls. They’ve also been losing sales.
    We’re not hating on you Mat. I’m a ‘13 Sentra owner with two cvt trans replaced at 60k. I’m lucky lemon law saved me. Staying away from Nissan for a very very long time.

    • @MattMaranMotoring
      @MattMaranMotoring  4 роки тому +5

      Oh boy a Scotty fan, I’ll just keep this short and say the CVT in this Nissan has only been around for about 2 years, so it’s way too early for anyone to be an expert on its reliability. Do you think Nissan likes paying millions for recalls? They don’t, so chances are they probably improved this CVT over the old one. Sweeping generalizations are usually wrong, and a few commenters here have already said how they’ve had trouble free experiences with their Nissans. But don’t worry I know the Toyota Celica is the only car worth owning 😂👍
