  • Video shows the first things to check if the kombi powerhead is not driving or engaging the attachments. There are other possible causes that I will make videos on in the future.

Thank you!!! I was in the midst of tilling my raised garden bed in preparation for winter when the tines slowed and almost stopped moving 2/3ds into the job. I was ready to take it in for service when I found your video. It resolved the problem! Job done. Hurry Spring.

Thanks for the video. I’m about my way to Stilh for services my KM90r because the attachment not working, spinning like before. After watching this video, I tighten the back nut and everything is working properly!

    Shaft bow clips (41407162200
) fell out of my KM55R KombiMotor. This video showed me how to put them back in. Thank you, Kilikoba Nashoba!

Check the lock sleeve hasn't broken. If that is broken it stops the parts inserting properly and then the hedge trimmer blades wont move. The good news is it is a piece of plastic and costs $7 AU

Thank you for the video resolved my issue and saved me from taking it in for repair. One question I had is what are those two U shaped metal things at the end of the shaft it looks like one of mine broke off.

If I’m thinking of the correct thing you are asking about, they are just guides that assist in the union of the two shafts as the come together.

One of mine broke off as well, however I have not noticed any difference in performance. Should it be something I should worry about and take me in for repair to prevent further damage?

If it is the drive shaft that is broken....DO NOT disassemble motor housing. Just remove the one screw and loosen the other four (slightly). The housing comes off and the shaft is accessible. Ask me how I know! My Stihl KM55R used part number ST4140 711 3203. In 2021 it cost $12.

My string trimmer shaft won’t release from the coupler. What can I do?

Make sure the clamp is actually loosening when you are turning the handle. Try spraying some lubricant in where it is stuck.

Ive stripped two tommy screws so far by "overnighting" them. Bc they are aluminum instead of steel screws. My attachments never tighten down enough and slide out so i tighten a bit more then boom. Stripped tommy screw!!. Why does this keep happening?? I have almost every attachment and use it all the time (trimming, edging, hedge trimmers, chainsaw, pawer sweeper idk why it wont tighten properly/all my attachments slip out eventually till they stop engaging then when i tighten a bit more the tommy screw strips wtf!!

I’ve only had to adjust and retighten that one time. You may try replacing the screws with another material and/or shimming the shaft so the collar clamps down better on the shaft.

I ve got the same problem, espacilly when using hedge trimmer, tiller or pole pruner. If you pull/rotate too much with it, it will start turning or come lose. When retightening it will temporary fix it but after a while tommy screw/nut is stripped. Always got a spare m6 nut in wallet to quick fix. Bought some chinese m6x30mm carbonsteel tommy screws hope they last longer.

I bought my new n its bogging down. It works and then it stop again it stop spinding the head .i will check what i see in ur video hopefully its the problem.

Hopefully that is it. If it is just the attachment and not the power head; it sounds like something isn’t attached/seated properly. Good luck.

Screw the kombi, I'm sticking with my dedicated stick equipment. Seems like more of a problem than it's worth (kombi).

The screws loosening has only happened one time. I own two Kombi systems and use them daily for commercial use. They are worth their weight in gold, to me.

@@kilikobanashoba I agree, I just today bought a km131 with string trimmer, chainsaw, edger, and articulating hedge trimmer and I love this thing. Now I'm in the process of selling all of my stihl stick equipment which will bring me $850 and I paid $500 for the kombi with all 4 attachments so I'll have the kombi and $350 extra dollars afterwards.

This is not my problem - for some reason the main shaft slides out and does not grip the attachment properly to run it

    • @kilikobanashoba
      @kilikobanashoba  6 років тому

It would be great if you had pictures or video, with the parts labeled or described, so I know what you are calling the main shaft and can see what is sliding. Without this information, it is hard to help.

Ken -- my Stihl had a similar issue. There is a "white" plastic insert in the end of the drive unit shaft; if these get broken / worn out, the Kombi attachments will not remain seated correctly. You can find the replacement parts at a local Stihl dealer or on Amazon (search for part # -> 4140 791 7201). The other issue I eventually had on my unit was the threads on the black tightening knob stretched out and would not clamp tightly. Hope this helps.

Bad design, I am having a problem that the attachment always comes off. Stilh should redesign this.
