The Adventures of Batman & Robin (SNES) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

- A playthrough of Konami's 1994 Super NES platformer, The Adventures of Batman & Robin.
Played through on the hard difficulty level.
This might just be the best looking Konami game on the SNES - not that the great majority of their games didn't impress (Contra III, Axelay, Ninja Turtles IV - they were all top-quality games in the SNES library), but this is one of those few games where you could easily mistake it for an early 32-bit game than a 16-bit one, a lot like how Sunsoft's Return of the Joker on the NES looked scarily close to a Sega Genesis game.
It captures the mood of the cartoon incredibly well, and what really makes it special is that it's constantly changing up the game play. Before you ever get bored of basic platforming, you're in the batmobile, chasing the Riddler through a pseudo-3D maze, or standing on a roller-coaster running the track at full speed.
And check out that background when you get onto the blimp - it looks like it was ripped right out of Night Strikers, the old arcade scaling shooter - it does an unbelievable job at faking a true 3D backdrop with the heavy mode-7 effects being let loose.
Now, I don't mean to detract from the rest of the game by focusing so much on the graphics - it's an excellent game in all regards. The presentation really is just a good indicator of quality for the overall game. It's obvious that the team that this did game cared a great deal about getting it right, and the amount of time and talent invested in it pays off in some truly extraordinary ways.

My older brother and I were in elementary school when we played this game. We had a hard time solving The Riddles last riddle. So he decided to make a list of all possible 2 letter combinations (the list was lonnnng.) After he finished the list he asked me to pick a random combination to try and if that didn't work we would start from the beginning of the list and work our way to the end. I randomly picked H.B and it WORKED! We were SO surprised and happy we didn't have to try over 300+ combination. ❤
😂😂😂😂 It’s so crazy you picked the right combination!
@ NALTO Human Brain
i did the same thing as a kid to figure out the parental lock on our TV.. but it was 4 digits and i didn't have any luck guessing.. so I did it one by one. when you're 10 you don't have anything better to do. 😂🤦♂️
I couldn't nail it but then I saw the cartoon episode in where he asks the same question! Lol... I was like..."Thank God"
must be wonderful years right with your brother 😌
omg this battle in the beginnin on the rollercoaster when the camera angle switches to front view ... thats some technique there
The Super Nintendo was an incredibly powerful machine. It is insane to think that games with such detailed and fluid graphics (like Batman and Robin, Earthbound, Mega Man X, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG etc.) came out on a console from 31 years ago. A console that despite three decades on its shoulders, still manages to stand up to the most modern consoles today. Congratulations to the Super Nintendo.
Shame Nintendo got lazy with their consoles now.
@@TeemoTemosson More like shame gaming as a whole got lazy for about 20 years now. The 6th generation was peak creativity and consoles, pc, handheld etc. 1998-2004. Been downhill since. Been gaming since 1983. Saw the shift.
Sucks that Nintendo doesn’t care about powerful hardware anymore
The level design in this game is amazing! The developers did a really good job.
Even these levels have the elements from the episodes.
One of the best Batman games ever. Loved the riddler stage.
Konami on the SNES made nothing but masterpieces
@@OriginalMasters it is not. Beautiful, varied game. Much better that the Genesis version
@@OriginalMasters Not. Shut up
Here is Konami's final game produced under the Batman license, and man, they didn't just go out with a bang. This is more like a nuke straight to the cartridge slot of the SNES.
This is true old-guard Konami at their absolute pinnacle, and if you haven't played it yet, shame on you!
Yeah this game was bad ass. I loved it.
But the megadrive version was the better game, also a very different one. This version was probably more in line with the series. But the megadrive version was very imaginative and very good.
Ruby Williams Anti UTTP Play the MD version first before you comment about it. The gameplay was partly like a contra game. But all the levels were completely original, nothing like contra in that sense. The snes version of batman was more in line with the series, but from a gameplay perspective it wasn't that good. Not very bad either, but nothing close to the MD version.
Btw I only had a super nintendo in those days.... and there are of course much better games on the snes than the snes version of this batman game. This probably wouldn't make my top 50-60 list. If it comes to batman games on the snes, in my opinion batman returns is the best one. That was very fun to play back in the day.
Ruby Williams Anti UTTP No... that's the simply answer. Most people would agree with that. Besides that batman returns on the snes is also better than batman & robin on the snes. MD version of batman & robin is like contra you said... can you kick an enemy in a contra game? Besides that it has also shmup levels. And you say that it's tedious, you mean it's to difficult for you? Yes the MD version is harder, but the gameplay is also better. It's hard in a good way.
@ Ruby: I probably could be considered more a Nintendo gamer as I mentioned before back in the days I only had Nintendo consoles. NES - SNES - N64 - Gameboys etc. But that doesn't keep me from judging the actual games. In this case the MD version is clearly a better game.
Easily one of the best SNES titles I ever had the pleasure of playing. Rented it for months until I could finally beat it! :D Dang, finding that breakable wall in Riddler's maze was no joke prior to the internet!!
That is why he is the master of riddles. :)
Played this as a kid and never made it past the 2nd level lol. I was so bad at this game. I wanted to play it so badly too, I just couldn't beat it.
@@RuFi0000000 yea i dont remember getting pass the 2nd level either it was hard af
Rest of the game isn't too bad once you get a feel for the traps they throw at your, other then that riddler level which is incredibly difficult
I know a huge portion of people fall all over themselves for the Genesis version and it is a great game, but the SNES version feels like a Batman game. The Genesis version feels like a run and gun that could be anything but has a Batman skin.
Amazing game, especially the Riddler level based on the cartoon episodes. All they needed was unlimited continues and this could have been considered one of the best SNES games ever made.
Choose a key ? No other clues ? Just pick a key ? What riddle is that ?

I remember this game as a kid I had quite a few gems in the old snes most of the batman games if not all of them
Yeah it might be on Amazon amazon still sells super games . I played this when was super young in fact I play it today =) . kinda Surprise my super works had it over 20 years .
@@linklon9540 It's very expensive, tho. It's not a common game.
The intro gives me chills. Great game
This game was really great, in part that the game's animation was so much like the cartoon's, which was amazing for 16-bit system at that time.
Kevin Conroy aka the batman 1955-2022 we shall never forget you the one true voice of batman
As a kid I adored both this game and it’s legendary series! 🦇
Wow, I had this Game, & I Played it Endlessly!! The Gameplay & Graphics Still look Great!!! So many Memories 🎮🕹️
This is my all-time favorite game of any system
Very authentic and realistic. I loved this way.
The stages are actually mirroring some of the episodes
Amazing game. Incredible for a 16-bit game from early 90's. Absolutely magnificent.
Right?! It’s actually insane that they were able to make it look this good on snes hardware
Wow nostalgia, I played this game so much when I was a kid. Amazing game
People praise the genesis version for its tight action and gameplay. This one feels more like you are in an episode. Nothing you see Batman do here you wouldn't see him doing on a show.
They're both great games.
@@isskull7272 Nope. The snes version is better
Actually most people praise the snes version for its right graphics and gameplay
@@firestrikeriii5043 They are two very different games. The console wars ended in the 90s, dude. You can chill out now.
Back in those days, when you see that Konami or Capcom logo you knew you were in forbat least a decent game.
So many memories! I love the cartoon from the 90s.
It's my all time favorite comic book show.
Uh, I remember the animated serie, it was good! Seems like they nailed the game as well!
Loved both versions of the game (SNES and MD).
Both have it's pros and cons.
This one retained the vibe of the series (specially the visuals).
Everything is nearly perfect in this great game, and the music is so incredibly good !
I remember having a fever as a kid and spending the whole day playing through this game. Somehow, by the next day I was feeling better and for years I believed that fever could be cured by playing a whole game in an afternoon.
I love just watching random retro games, so intriguing
The Ridler Stage Was By Far The Hardest I Would Have Never Figured That Out
Loved this game when I was a kid. Miss playing it. Thanks!
The sprites on two-faces is very ahead of the time 😮
Amazing memories! The effects music and difficulty was top notch in that Konami masterpiece!!
I remember playing and loving this game. Graphics, pacing, music..all fantastic. And then I played the brutal but awesome Genesis version. These two games are bight and day. I love them both for different reasons.
27:30 penguins bird got wrecked lol so easily
It's pretty hardcore to straight up punch a bird in the face.
@@NintendoComplete it was almost like the bird was on a yo-yo string, they way you beat it so easily.
I loved this game. This and super Mario world were the first 2 games I ever had for snes. I played so many times but the farthest I ever went was to the Riddler stage. As a kid who did not speak/understand English, knowing what did you had to do on that maze was quite difficult. Still, I managed to get to the "riddle" part, but there's no way a kid could solve that human brain riddle! And the battle with the chess Kings and Riddler breaking the glass required knowledge and skill to figure it out, so absolutely no way someone could get that on first try. After you lose you have to get all the way to get back there, and by then i was tired and bored of the game. So yeah that riddle was where it stopped the game for me 😅
Still, best Batman game for snes and such a nostalgia to watch this more than 10 years later. Cheers from Brazil ✌️

I frickin' loved this game!!
If only we could have a modern Batman game with this timeless "dark-deco" style ...

This is one of my favorite Batman games of all time, maybe top 10.
Loved that game when I was young! The music especially.
NEVER SEE ROBIN. IT'S JUST BATMAN.
this game was the first time i saw joker and harley. this joker was the one i i always reference as the original joker.
I really enjoyed renting this game at blockbuster as a kid in 90"s

"HOW the hell was I supposed to know I can't jump on the roller coaster!"
riddler really beatin those invisible men off
Ahahaha, hope he has some hand sanitizer ready on his utility belt!

I just completed hard mode for the first time a couple of minutes ago. I like the body slam move you used on Joker as the finishing move. Very good

Best Batman game ever.
So many great ideas in this game, the rollercoaster front facing view was inspired as was the batman vs cat woman freefalling fight
Magnifique ce jeux
Tellement de souvenirs, je m'en souviens encore
A MASTERPIECE ❤🔥🦇
Funny how the music in this version tries to mimic the Danny Elfman theme and Shirley Walkers original score more than the Genesis game, which has music that sounds more at home in Batman Beyond.
That's because Konami had an understanding of licenses they were handling, seen it with other games they did, like The Simpson's, the X-Men arcade game, Anamaniacs, Tiny Toons, TMNT and of course Bucky O'Hare. Not sure what Jesper Kyd was thinking, he surely could've gone more with an atmospheric take on the soundtrack, but it seems he must've been out at the nightclub, and got an inspiration for the Genesis games soundtrack while on the dance floor boogying.
Well, that is why genesis wins here objectively. Some people mimic, some people create. Jesper Kyd's soundtrack is original and levers up the game to highest level.
@GodZpeed X7 You do realize that the console wars are over, right? they're both great games and are also very different. But hey, if you want to be a fanboy then go ahead.
Found this today and a convenient and bought it! Love this game!
I'll remember solve the Riddler final questions by looking the green map. It made like some initial of H.B so I try and it's works.! What a good old days in 90's. Thanks for upload the video, it's bring nostalgia of my childhood :)
as a kid I never solved that final riddler puzzle
I was never able to pass through the Scarecrow balloon stage. I just couldn't grapple it right to get to the cabin. Shucks!
These games never held your hand like today
Never seen this before! They got the animated look soo good especially for the snes! I wanna play it now lol
I LOVED this game. Big fan of the DCAU.
To play through this game on hard difficulty on the original hardware, you would have to do it in one sitting. With the modern luxury of save states, like on the SNES Classic Mini or Nintendo Switch Online, you don’t have to do that.
Lightyears better than the Genesis game of the same name.
level 3 with the penguin is my favorite level. I remember getting stuck in this English for hours because I did not know and did not know what to do so I tried to open every door just to see what's inside. the mystery of that level was absolutely amazing and the music of that level and then that jumpscare at 24:02 scared me so much. I just love it!
Best batman game i ever played
The cartoon that this is based on is the definitive Batman. I've only played the Genesis counterpart to this, but that game was amazing as well.
Genesis game sucked
@@firestrikeriii5043 oh no a nintendo fanboy
this right here was the game I started playing when I probably was like 3 years old or so and I never managed to beat it. Spend so many hours on it though... oh boy, so many memories and frustration :D I wonder what psychological impact this game had on me.. I never was able to beat it.
The devs really nailed it to feel like watching the original animated series.
I knew about the game since 2014 or so, but now that I have actually watched through all of BTAS and TNBA this year, and love the SNES anyway, I have way more appreciation for it. Wow, it really shows off the capability of the system, too! Especially the Mode 7 portion of the rollercoaster sequence!
The Best Batman Game prior to the Arkham games...followed by another SNES Classic...Batman Returns...which was basically Final Fight with Batman...FANTASTIC! Also really love the Batman 89 games on NES and Genesis! But this one beats them all!
Aw man! This game looks so cool, I wish I could play it!
Emulation is your friend, if you choose that route, and it won't cost you a dime. Trying to buy a real cart of this though, and you better prepare for wallet rapeage.
One of the best, and I was young when I played it. I had troubles being Joker on the roller coaster.
Love the poison ivy's stage vibe
1994 was onе hell of a year. This game, contra hard corps, wild guns, hagane, ninja warriors again, list goes on and on.......
I use play this wen I was kid miss this game n Batman returns on SNES even Batman and Robin on ps1
The soundtrack for this game was so good.
Still one of the best crafted games for SNES in my opinion. Makes you feel just like your in TAS
That's a fact!
This game has eluded my SNES collection for a long time
I played a lot more games as a kid than I thought I did going through this catalog.
This was the best Game back then, so much love for the cartoon details, Music, Gameplay.
This game stayed true to the cartoon. Give praise where it is due.
The animation is beautiful!
Comparing the Genesis and SNES Batman and Robin games is like comparing apples to oranges, they both play completely different, but both capture the dark atmosphere of the awesome TV show of the 90's (well at least the original Batman episodes, without Robin in them so much). The difference is also startling in value of pricing, Genesis game can still be had for dirt cheap ($20 now, I paid $2.99 for a cart only copy), this SNES version though, yikes has it gone through the roof considerably (pushing $100 cart only easy, with a ton of repro's on Ebay right now).
I always found the western style of making games difficult a bit on the cheap side, seems the Japanese mostly got things right there, with games that totally didn't feel unfair. From what I've played of European and American made games in the last decade, the devs were just assholes when it came to difficulty, while the Japanese devs didn't make things easier either, but they made it so you can learn it without luck so much. The difficulty curve in Japanese made games was a gradual increase in most cases, while western made games were like, here's a problem, good luck figuring out how to not get fucked over by the things we put in there.
Batman and Robin on SNES was difficult, but Batman and Robin on the Genesis was not difficult in a good way, even back in the day, game magazine writers complained about the Genesis version being a bit too difficult. There's good "make me learn to play better" difficult, then there's "HAHA we made this shit ridiculously difficult so that you stand no chance of doing well" difficult. Now there were devs, like Irem, who mostly made games where memorization was key to finishing their games, but that's just the way Irem was.
And music wise, this was closer to the TV show, right down to the end credits theme. The Genesis version, while having a great OST, the music felt so out of place for a Batman title.
I know this is very corny, but my dad bought me this game for my birthday that year. It was always "out" at Blockbuster so I never got to play it. My mom drove my brother and I to a south suburban Chicago staple - Popolanos - and on the marquee, it said "Happy 7th Matt", and my dad, after we got our food, gifted me a brand new copy as we ate cupcakes.
He died when I was sixteen and I miss him all the time. What a thoughtful gift, and he did the amazing job of being sly whenever I asked about going back to rent it and said I was 50th on the waiting list. Believing him made it so much better.
Una serie tan increíble tenía que tener un juego tan increíble...
Great job , bro I saw all video beacuse I can't pass the laberynt from stage 7 the riddler and I could finished all game, thanks a lot definitely this is one of the best games from my childhood 🤗🤗
This game capture the tv series and Batman's souls like no other could do at time, the only games thats known how to work Batman like that was the Arkham serie. The Catwoman stage is impressive until today.
Saludos
@@DavidFlores-ix2cy no, thats is a good game but just a beatn up with Batman. In this one ever level is related with who he is fighting, all level is build to represent how is to fight that enemy. Only Arkham series (in Asylum and City) did something like this. Much diferent from a simple beatn up.

Konami knows how to push the SNES to its limits
the driving stages are way better than the sega cd version
I never realized Konami developed this game. They must have been the kings of licensed games in the ‘90s! I’m looking at you, Turtles in Time!
they also made pretty good Prince of Tennis anime games in the 00's. Even had bowling in it...
As a young kid playing this I never could beat the riddlers final riddle, nice to finally see the end of this game
The first level is soooo hard! For the second level I always used the batarang to temporarily stun the girls. I never had enough of that gas stuff the to use on them, and you always carry the batarang and don't have to keep switching between the grappling hook and the gas.
Thats cool it has the same old wall jump like the nes batman game.
These graphics look amazing still !
What a pity I didn't play this game in 90's. The concept and design of this game are marvelous and will never be old-fashioned!
Great game and an amazing playthrough. I still think they could've added a few more villains to this game like Clock King, Bane and maybe even a sewer level where you pursue Killer Croc.
