Hey guys! I've replaced this video with a new playthrough with much better video quality. Please check it out instead! ua-cam.com/video/VwOM3KtHLWg/v-deo.html
Good line up. Seriously that technology and expertise was just so cutting edge at the time. For me it was OOT, Ssb 64, star fox 64, Super Mario 64 I also had mk snes and my dad old old games back in NES era.
Never understood why every Castlevania game after this didn't incorporate the control scheme. The controls in this game are top-notch even when playing it almost 30 years later.
IKR? As neat as I found Symphony of the Night, it made zero sense why an ability as simple as attacking up, while mapping the sub-weapons to their own button, was apparently too advanced for the cutting edge PS1 game layered with RPG elements. Aside from not being able to whip downwards while on the ground (which perhaps could have easily been solved, if crouching was mapped to an L/R trigger, or if Down+Whip was different from Down+Left/Right+Whip), plus the hassle of fighting enemies on stairs, I felt that SCIV’s controls were nearly perfect.
SotN (aka Igavania) became the standard after the meh 3D Castlevanias in Nintendo64. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Igavanias. But I'm with you, I'd love to see this formula implemented. Castlevania:Rebirth is a fantastic game, but it uses the NES formula more than the SNES/Sega formula. A man can dream, though. A man can dream. Welp, time for another Super Castlevania IV run!
From what I understood, some of the original team split up with Konami and left to do their own thing. I love symphony of the night and I'm glad IGA is doing his own thing, imagine if the original SCV4 team united and made a new Castlegania game, or something like it.
Would've been tricky for Rondo of Blood since the PC Engine only had 2 face buttons on the controller. I agree though, the control scheme for SCIV is great.
I get goosebumps watching the first minute. I'm a 37-year old man and it still makes me feel the same emotion as a kid. The creepy music in the beginning reappears at the 30:28 mark.
@BxxDxx Hoodoo Dude I go back further than that. Waking up Saturday Morning, watching those classic Saturday Morning Cartoons until mom woke up, made banana pancakes, spend all day on the NES or SNES, playing what we managed to rent from the local rental store (even before Blockbuster came onto the scene). Mom made sweet tea, drink cups of the stuff. Go to Saturday Mass, grab a cheap pizza from, again, a local chain afterwards, watch SNICK when we got back home, play the rest of the night away until Mystery Science Theater 3000 came on, go to bed after that. That was my idea of a perfect childhood Saturday.
Out of all the Castlevania games, this one is my absolute favorite of all time and it will forever reign supreme….every level kept me on the edge of my seat….love it 😊
My one and ONLY beef is that the 8 way whip is borderline TOO powerful. Makes you barely need all of the special weapons like the holy water and the axe for example. Other than that, I love it.
Master piece of gaming history on the super nintendo. It make me feel like a child again . Being the vampire slayer. And then we grow up and find out what being a adult is like . With all the worries of the world on your head. I want to go back to my child hood ..when you just couldn't wait to get home and play your fav game and dream on . The music in this takes me there again.
Your comment could not have been more true. That feeling that you got when you've returned home and you switched on your Super Nintendo with this game (or any other consoles with Castlevania to be honest, except Aria/Dawn of Sorrow) and you imagined yourself being the mighty hero defeating Lord Dracula once and for all. I am sure you can return to your childhood in another dimension and I hope you have fun with it. May God be with you all the way, sir. :-)
Def not. I came here just to listen to fall asleep. esp @ 45:10 which was one of my favorite stages. The music in this game was insanely good and still is. Brings me back to my happy place
I have got the impression that older video games focused a lot more on music than modern video games. I feel as if modern games tend to be really silent most of the time, whereas games from the 90s were usually like "alright, let's rock and roll!", and played some catchy track for almost any situation.
@@armandsmith1027 Indeed back then Mode 7 among other SNES specs. Separated it from the Saga system, Many people felt Nintendo was the superior system. At that point Nintendo won the 16 Bit Wars. Diagonal whip was so revolutionary. I remember playing the first few castlevania in NES and they didn’t have that. It’s been so long. Am I right or is there something wrong with my memory?
As a kid, that graveyard imagery from the story at the beginning, used to send shivers down my spine. I always thought there was some place like that in this world. Now, as an adult, I cant stop thinking that someone envisioned it because he saw it in real life...
The BEST OG Castlevania. Graphics, sound design, music (oh the music!) and atmosphere and that whip have never been surpassed. An absolute gem of the 16-bit era.
It was a blast to see the game in 1992 in German department stores! The intro 0:39 - 3:04 is especially eerie, atmospheric and horror-like, similar to Forbidden Forest (Commodore 64)!! Goosebumps! Amazing music!
I kind of love it how the music for Drac's third stage is "Simon's Theme." Instead of ominous, threatening music for his FINAL FORM, instead the soundtrack itself is telling Vlad to prepare for the whipping he is about to receive.
@@kakashihatake326 Lords of Shadow lore is bullshit, someone's wet dream. Simon is human, but very, very powerful. Simon is also not eternal, so he can's be a vampire. I swear these Lords of Shadow shitshows totally ruined whatever timeline and story arc Konami already had set for the series.

Whenever I beat Dracula in this game and that orb fell from the air in his chamber, I would always try and jump up and grab it while flailing my whip, so I could get that cool frozen action shot. 😁 But yeah, this game brings back memories. The music, the graphics. Wow, this takes me back.
Modern games are good and all, and maybe they're the best games have ever been, but I always come back to these retro games. After the PS2/XBox/GameCube my interest in keeping up with modern gaming started to wane, and I started playing fewer and fewer "new" games. I have the PS4/XB1/Switch and what do I play the most? The NES/SNES/Genesis Classic consoles, and I can't wait until the TG16 comes out next year. The Switch is really the only modern console I play...it's not that there aren't any modern games that interest me, it's just that there really isn't a pick-up-and-play element to most modern games. You have to sit down and invest time into the game, the controls, the story, etc...When you're in your 40's you don't have the benefit of a whole lot of free time. To sum it all up in the simplest of terms: Retro games FTW!
Im only 28 as of January this year man, and i completely agree with you. I grew up on retro systems cuz im a 90's kid and i still always come back to these classics no matter how much new games and technology saturate the market
Plus modern day games offer very little challenge, and gameplay in general. I find myself watching cutscenes or reading dialogue 60% of the time. Cut the bs and give me some action!
I'm 22 and I feel you. I don't mind a long grind now and again (assuming it's worth it of course), but I still prefer my Gamecube over my Switch if that makes any sense.
1:09:52 Dat feel when the final music starts to play. Your palms are sweaty. You are nervous and fearful as all get out. Still you press left on the d-pad. Time for the final boss. Time to face Dracula.
That music tho.. after all these years. Still as powerful and amazing as ever. I just bought a copy of the game in near mint condition! For me this was the golden age of gaming. ❤
I remember getting this game the day it released at Electronc Boutique before it became GameStop. This game is a masterpiece and has one of the best soundtracks ever for a game.
0:38 That whole scene at the start scared the shit outta me as a kid!! I was imagining I was in that big as graveyard during the night!! I was 8 years old!! :0
4 mins in and I couldn't help but smile. Not only was this a great game but it took me back to the days when you could actually rents games for a few days then bring them back. I rented the hell outta this game lol. Never beat it tho smh.
I played this growing up. Having the boomerang was always the best weapon to have. My brother's and I loved this masterpiece. He still has it . I'm 45 years old and was a teenager back then 😊
After beating this game, let the credits roll without powering down or resetting the SNES and you will be able to start the game again in a slightly different version. The Bosses are the same, but you will have regular enemies that are somewhat tougher and some later enemies from game 1 will appear earlier in the 2nd game. If nothing else, save your first password from the 2nd game - you will have a different set of passwords for this game. Many Super Castlevania IV purists don't consider the game beaten until they beat it the 2nd time through.
Saludos!
Id love a Castlevania II Simons Quest remake with this control scheme and graphics. Would be awesome. Imagine how creepy the music could be and have bosses for every mansion.

Whenever I beat Dracula in this game and that orb fell from the air in his chamber, I would always try and jump up and grab it while flailing my whip, so I could get that cool frozen action shot. 😁
But yeah, this game brings back memories. The music, the graphics. Wow, this takes me back.
I still do that whenever I play this game lol
I still do that. 😄
How I miss these days, this game was so good and still holds up.
As someone in their 40's, free time is valuable as goldwhen you get it, but you don't get a lot of it either.
Right, right!
That's my BEST GAME i ever played when I was a kid growing up......specially the Music
I wish could be a kid again ......miss those DAYS .
The first time I heard just the opening "Jazzesque" theme in 1991 I melted. The entire game is a masterpiece, but the music, just too good.
The music really makes the game it gives it the perfect atmosphere love love this Game!!
They've created masterpieces back then. I miss these times.
One of the best games ever! I always loved the music in this game. Brings back great memories.
Ditto. Great music. Great memories
Best 16 bits Soundtrack Ever. So Creative, So Unique, So Magic. Even 30 years later.
The Dracula final battle music is a masterpiece that still stands strong to this day.
I'm still playing this game today !!! It's one of the best, ever maded !!! Together with Super Mario Bros and FALLOUT 3. And ofcourse = Castlevania
ALL IS EPIC !!!!!!!!!!!!!
In my honest opinion one of the greatest video games ever created
I think I agree
That music tho.. after all these years. Still as powerful and amazing as ever. I just bought a copy of the game in near mint condition! For me this was the golden age of gaming. ❤
one of the greatest game ever made
I remember getting this game the day it released at Electronc Boutique before it became GameStop. This game is a masterpiece and has one of the best soundtracks ever for a game.
The stage with the swinging chandelier that music was soooo epic 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I DENT LIKE IT
0:38 That whole scene at the start scared the shit outta me as a kid!! I was imagining I was in that big as graveyard during the night!! I was 8 years old!! :0
I love how this game lets you freely swing your chain to "block" incoming attacks if an enemy gets too close. So cool!
4 mins in and I couldn't help but smile. Not only was this a great game but it took me back to the days when you could actually rents games for a few days then bring them back. I rented the hell outta this game lol. Never beat it tho smh.
This takes me back to when I was 10. I got this for XMAS 1992. Fond memories.
I played this growing up. Having the boomerang was always the best weapon to have. My brother's and I loved this masterpiece. He still has it . I'm 45 years old and was a teenager back then 😊
Wow I remember this game when I was a lil boy my dad use too play this game every night still Kool as hell brings back old memories 👍👍👍👍👍👍
I used to watch my sister play this when I was little. Always loved the music especially from the ballroom level.
Brilliant game. Brings back so many memories..
Many Super Castlevania IV purists don't consider the game beaten until they beat it the 2nd time through.
oh, neat info!
57:56 Stage 10-1
1:03:47 Stage 11-1
1:04:52 Stage 11-2
1:06:48 Stage 11-3
1:09:51 Final Boss
10 -1 my favourite
Saludos!
Sí, jaja. A mí también me pasó algo parecido... Simplemente inolvidable! ¡Saludos cordiales!
They need to take some of this music and put it in the castlevania Netflix series! Put a like if u agree .
Save it for the major motion picture
@@armandoortiz9114 i like your thinking homie!....that would be Epic!
yeah but not live action, a badass animation style that is current be freaking great!
@Flandre Scarlet the problem is that Castlevania IV is considered non-canon, since Simon only killed Vlad 2 times
@@las4gna84 It's not that this isn't canon. It's just that Castlevania 4 is a remake of the first one.
Id love a Castlevania II Simons Quest remake with this control scheme and graphics. Would be awesome. Imagine how creepy the music could be and have bosses for every mansion.
Great music. I can see mario working his magic on mario paint.
Game is pure nostalgia. Really takes me back unlike any other game. The landscapes, the music, the combat...perfection.
