Thank you so much for your 2 videos, on Sue! It encouraged me, as I just rescued a Lab ?Shepherd mix 10 weeks ago. She is 16 months old, and I was told she was poddy trained, gets along with dogs. Etc. I got her and she was SO hyper, jumping on me and gouging my arms with deep scratches.. Swiping at my legs causing very deep painful bruises. She had no respect for boundaries and would grab my food. Push me etc. I ordered a crate and when it arrived she was in it for 2 minutes and went ballistic! She leaped out, and an accident occurred, and my foot was fractured in 4 places. I have spent 8 weeks in a boot, and still have pain, so I have only been able to take her out for poddy. She is very destructive and destdoyed 70 percent of my books, some clothes, pulled stuffing out of furniture, and even chewing on the walls through the drywall. She growls and lunges towards dogs She was not poddy trained and peed and pooped inside. She eats her poop if she does it inside. I have felt terribly defeated, as I was being injured and am always running into dogs outside my apartment or on trails too. . She has had no socialization and probably was in a kennel her entire life. I took her to the vet and we did decide to put her on some Trazadone, so I could heal and get her into training, to include socialization with other dogs. She is too wild and excited to be able to focus. But for now it has been 11 weeks, she sleeps with me, and has had a few car rides, including the vet. The behaviour issues are very challenging, especially with my foot. Hopefully things will have improved after another 3 months! I am committed to her..❤
we have a male coming from romaina and same as you paws! , we already have two dogs. they will i hope teach him. must of been difficult with another dog. I am just going through youtube researching, so glad it worked out for you all. Know and feel we are doing the right thing. Regards Mick
Thanks so much. We’re due to get our little girl from Romania after the ban on animal travel is lifted (hopefully 14th May 🤞🏻) we’ve waited and are really looking forward to getting her here. I know there’ll be obstacles but we’ve had rescue dogs before and I think we can deal with challenges while she learns she’s here to stay and she can trust us.
One of my neighbours had a rescue and got a crate, the dog freaked out when she was put in it. Tried it once and not again,it caused to much stress and obviously a trauma thing from previous life
Don't worry, my dogs are pretty well adjusted and if they are sleeping would snap at another dog if they were climbing on them. She's just saying bugger off Im sleeping lol. If she's good with them tge rest of the time, I wouldn't worry, although sometimes a rescue will get possessive of you abd want you to themselves.
Thank you for sharing your experience in this series. I found it useful and touching and very inspiring. I'm getting ready to adopt (from Romania..because I live here 😀) soon-ish. I've been watching a lot of videos and I'm so happy I stumbled upon your series because it underlined how no matter how much you prepare and try, something will happen that you didn't foresee and at the end of the day you just need to be patient, loving, caring and not give up. I hope I'll be as patient and loving to my future doggy rabbit as you and your partner.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment! I wish you the best of luck because it truly is such a rewarding experience. I'm so glad you found the videos helpful. We've just adopted another dog and we do not regret it at all 😊 it's so worth it. Good luck 💚
Hi! I have two dogs. One of them is a Romanian Street dog. He never got on with the crate. He would freak if we tried to crate him whilst we were out and one occasion we had a noise complaint (it was an early hours emergency vet visit as one of our buns suddenly passed). His behaviour and reaction to the crate just got progressively worse so we ditched the crate and he has been so much better without it. I think some dogs are just to traumatised to crate train. We do still have a number of issues with him - resource guarding and reactiveness to other dogs and sometimes people - but we are working on him and he is improving. We found the calming tables etc don’t work.
Aw bless! ☹That's awful! That's reassuring to hear that as I felt a bit of a failure with the crate training, but I think I just have to accept it's not going to work. Even just the noise of the crate would freak our dog out and she would run upstairs and hide. She had a major panic attack when the trainer managed to get her in the crate in her van last time and we've been too nervous to try again since because of how stressed she got. That's lovely to hear he is improving!
@@Ruth_forever_rambling Definitely don’t beat yourself up about the crate training. I think most dogs don’t really need them to be honest. It’s best to ditch the crate if it’s too traumatic for them. Our Romanian rescue prefers to sit on the window sill and watch out for our return.

@@petebartlett2229 Yes, we decided it just wasn't worth the stress of putting her through it
