A love for the environment and outdoor adventures. You'll probably find me hiking up a mountain, getting lost in woodlands, freezing cold while swimming in a river or attempting to balance on a paddle board.
I have been a volunteer for the Cardiff Conservation Volunteers since 2007 and will continue to do my bit to care for the planet and lead a low impact lifestyle. "Our primary aim is to promote the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment anywhere, whilst having an enjoyable time doing so".
I have also recently adopted a Romanian rescue dog which turned out to be one of the most challenging things I've dealt with. We're taking baby steps and progressing with training hoping that we give her the best life that she deserves.

The Beacons Way | Solo Hiking & Wild Camping | I had to BAIL!
I decided to take on the epic challenge of trying to complete The Beacons Way solo and self-supported and admit, it was the most mentally and physically challenging thing I have ever done.
The whole 99 mile (159km) walk should take at least eight days, however, I was making so much progress that I was aiming to finish it in 6 days, carrying 19kg on my back, and wild camping along the way. The trail's path starts from Abergavenny in the east to Llangadog in the west, passing through key points like Pen y Fan, The Skirrid, Llyn y Fan Fawr, and various historical sites. The trail often goes off the beaten track taking routes into back country not usually explored by the average walker.
(The drone footage was filmed on separate days as I couldn't fit it into my bag!)

An 8.26 mile hike up to Fan Fawr and Fan Frynych! Great alternative to Pen y Fan as you've still got amazing views. It is a steep hard slog uphill though. I enjoyed following your journey and also feel you made the right choice to depart when you did. I hope you were able to reflect upon how much you had achieved by that point - so many ascents, the mountains, distance and wild camping! I also feel it's great that you had someone you could call and depend upon. I hope that you will be able to complete your hike when you're ready. Thanks for sharing.
@@WalksWithOlly Thank you so much! I'm really glad to enjoyed it ☺️ Absolutely! It was incredibly tough, but such an amazing experience! I can't wait to eventually finish the route 💚 I'm very lucky I was able to have three support when needed

An oatmeal trick- you can pour the hot water directly into the paper bag. I put two oatmeal packets side by side in my plastic jetboil cup to hold them upright so I don't burn my hands pouring the hot water in. Then I stir them up a bit and let them set for 5 minutes, eat them, and let them dry while I'm packing up and then I either pack them out with me or they go in a campfire.
@@andreameigs1261 Aaah that's really cool, thanks! 😁
Very picturesque place! Very nice 😊
It is stunning is't it? ☺ Love it there!
@Ruth_forever_rambling I don't blame you, have a look at ours when you get a chance. Not such good scenery but there's some places down this way. Will catch the rest of your videos 🙂
I really enjoyed your video and found your humility and honesty in how you were feeling quite refreshing. There is strength in vulnerability. It also reminded me of my solo trek along the Cotswold Way this summer, when you were heaving your heavy pack on and the thought of walking with it for many miles, I felt your pain. I hope you can finish the Beacons Way one day, it looks beautiful.
Thank you so much! That honestly means a lot ☺ I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Oh wow! The Cotswold Way is a hell of a trek! Well done! I'm looking forward to finally completing The Beacons Way 😁 I'm hoping to do it next month if the weather is kind to me 🤞
Only half way thru but just wanna say well done, the first step is often the hsrdest and as u said u wanted to try to see if you could. Very impressive and inspiring to others go you 👏🏼
Good effort. BBC are the worst for weather. You go mowing hay because it's going to be dry for 5 days. You get back a few hours later and it's thunder storms and heavy rain. SAS train there for a reason, so no shame in bailing. Better to be safe.
@@davidsmith663 Thank you ☺️ Yes, it was daft of me to be following BBC weather. It's so unpredictable! I'll know for next time which apps to use instead

@@cantthinkof123 Thank you so much! It is an incredible route, but definitely an absolute killer 😅 I still don't know how I managed to go as far as I did, but probably down to my stubbornness 😂 Well done you both as well for completing the Beacons Way!
Hiya Ruth, brilliant video and really good effort on your challenge. You should be very proud of what you managed to achieve. 👏 I've pitched up at most of these locations and the weather can turn very bleak, very fast! Thank you so much for your 2 videos, on Sue! It encouraged me, as I just rescued a Lab ?Shepherd mix 10 weeks ago. She is 16 months old, and I was told she was poddy trained, gets along with dogs. Etc. I got her and she was SO hyper, jumping on me and gouging my arms with deep scratches.. Swiping at my legs causing very deep painful bruises. She had no respect for boundaries and would grab my food. Push me etc. I ordered a crate and when it arrived she was in it for 2 minutes and went ballistic! She leaped out, and an accident occurred, and my foot was fractured in 4 places. I have spent 8 weeks in a boot, and still have pain, so I have only been able to take her out for poddy. She is very destructive and destdoyed 70 percent of my books, some clothes, pulled stuffing out of furniture, and even chewing on the walls through the drywall. She growls and lunges towards dogs She was not poddy trained and peed and pooped inside. She eats her poop if she does it inside. I have felt terribly defeated, as I was being injured and am always running into dogs outside my apartment or on trails too. . She has had no socialization and probably was in a kennel her entire life. I took her to the vet and we did decide to put her on some Trazadone, so I could heal and get her into training, to include socialization with other dogs. She is too wild and excited to be able to focus. But for now it has been 11 weeks, she sleeps with me, and has had a few car rides, including the vet. The behaviour issues are very challenging, especially with my foot. Hopefully things will have improved after another 3 months! I am committed to her..❤
