Thank you so so much for sharing your story. I’m really enjoying following it. I so wish I’d documented right from the day we got our Lithuanian rescue dog 5 weeks ago, but it was so so hard it just didn’t feel something anyone would want to document. But I think it would help us see the huge progress she’s made! Your dog is absolutely gorgeous and you can tell she’s going to make a fantastic dog.
I’ve just stumbled across your page researching Romanian rescues. You’re wonderful for saving your dog, they have it so much harder over there. My English rescue was terrible with cars too, she would just scream the whole journey, it did settle down with age but she was never settled unless she could put her head out the window which she couldn’t always do!
Sadly sometimes you can never get a dog used to the car. My husband and I used to have rescue greyhounds and lurchers. One of the lurchers which we had as a ten week old puppy hated the car from the moment we picked her up from the RSPCA. I tried everything to get her used to it, even feeding her in the car but nothing worked. A couple of years ago I took in a Shih Tzu who had been attacked by a labrador dog and lost an eye and was not doing too well where he lived. The first question I asked was "how was he in the car" the owner said he was fine. He loves going in the car especially when we go for a walk to his favorite field where he has many friends.
mine came from romania too :) ours looks so similar and we're going through the same problems too! like literally everything, especially eating anything in the garden and being sick and just randomly stopping walking, this video really helped so thank you! i hope you're all doing well now
Aww thank you! I'm so glad the video helped. I'm sorry to hear you're having the same problems too! ☹How long have you had your Rommie for? We've had Sue for over a year now and she's doing brilliantly. She's still an anxious dog and I think she always will be to be honest. I still struggle at times to get her to walk with me on my own, but it's definitely improving! It took roughly 9 months until we started seeing big positive changes. I would recommend getting a trainer involved or a a dog behavourist if it gets worse as we had to in the end. I hope everything gets better for you! x🤞
I'm having the exact same issue as you with regards to my new rescue pup from Mexico stopping on walks as she doesn't want to come home and end the walk. I didn't know dogs were capable of being so incredibly stubborn and putting their brakes on like this before I got her! We are working through it though and I am definitely seeing improvements. What I've been doing is spending a good hour here and there taking her for a walk, then coming back to the house just to the door, giving her a high value treat, then going right back again for another walk, repeated several times in one session. I did this over and over again and eventually she stopped putting her brakes on and would just walk right up to the house! I also started switching up the route back home so that it's less predictable. I also always give a high value treat once we get to the door and as soon as we get inside we will play a little super enthusiastic game of fetch so that she knows that the fun doesn't stop when we get home from the walk. Try those methods out as I really have been seeing improvements, slowly but surely!! You're not alone in these challenges I promise you, although it feels like it sometimes :)
I'm in Australia and have always rescued from Australian pounds ( we are not allowed to rescue from other countries as we don't have rabies in Australia). These issues are the same I've experienced with the 3 rescue dogs I have. It takes about 6 months for the dogs to settle. They feel great anxiety and fear when going to a new home. I think one of my dogs actually had depression. You are doing really well and things will improve with time. Romanian dogs often have experienced hunger and starvation so they tend to eat whatever they can find. One of my dogs was just bones when we rescued him 😪I did lots of reading. Wishing you the best of luck. Positive training techniques have worked for my husband and I and I really recommend using the techniques.
Once again thank you for saving her. She looks like she’s really happy. I hope you realize that in spite of her issues she’s better behaved than a lot of pet dogs. I’m sure she suffers from PTS. Her life before you rescued her was like living in a war zone. As difficult as things are for you sometimes things are much harder on her
I had a rescued Belgian Shepherd he had a lot of the issues yours does. Time and patience and she'll be a cracking dog. Non of these seem like big issues, just a little frustrating. Keep going it'll be worth it, you're doing really well after just a few months.
Yes, luckily for us they are minor frustrating issues. Overall I think we've been quite lucky with her as she is such a polite dog and no aggression in her whatsoever. Her recall can be a bit rubbish when she's distracted but 95% of the time she's brilliant. Still working on the fear of vehicles! Thank you so much! :)
@@Ruth_forever_rambling My Belgian Shepherd had a terrible fear of vehicles. Was a difficult one to move on from. Turned out I was doing it all wrong, kept filling him with treats, had the wrong effect I was rewarding his fear. Amazing the silly mistakes we make.
Hi Im a dog foster, rescuer, trainer. I strongly recommend not letting her off leash for a while, maybe ever. Unless in an enclosed fenced area. Being in scavenger mode, still, if she gets the scent of something edible, even far away, she'll take off. Dont risk losing her. GPS will help but she .ay get hit by a car before you find her. Second, pkease pick up everyrhing small enough for her to swallow- I'm guessing yours is not a 10 bedroom house, and many small children who leave toys all over the floor, right? Third, give her some time. You dont know the horrors she may have experienced. Maybe, in Romania, it was the female of the house who took her out and dumped her, so she doesnt eant ro leave unless your partner is with you. I'm just throwing ideas oit there. These resxues come with all kinds of trauma. Itll be infinitely reqarding when you heal hers.
Definitely ☺️ it's very rewarding. I was always adamant that any dog I own will be a rescue. There's plenty out there that deserve a home. My last rescue dog was fine with cars as well but unfortunately my current rescue just cannot cope with them!
There is a trainer in California that takes a different approach than just treat training. Some dogs need different approaches his UA-cam channel is called “Beckman’s dog training “ he has a shit ton of videos
We've had our dog for nearly 3 years now and no longer have any issues with her. I'm curious about different approaches to dog training though, so will take a look. Thanks
You've got issues with the treats - I'd sub them with chicken and see if it improves. Them treats can be full of sugar. I think you can fill in the blanks from there.
Thank you! I really hope there would be more people like you in Romania.
Thank you so much! That means a lot. She's turned into the best dog 🥰

With the professional help and the obvious love and effort you are both showing, I know in time you will end up with a fine companion, nice dog.
Aww thank you! I really hope so ☺️ She's a completely different dog to when we first had her

I salute you for your great deed. Its well worth the effort, you'll see. Spesking from years of experience doing the same thing
Awww she's lovely and obviously very happy.

Rescue dogs are a good thing to do🤘🏼
My ones are fine with the car straight away

Hi all. I’m looking at adopting from “the paw project U.K.”.. anyone heard of it, or adopted from them. I’m just checking it’s legit. Thanks
