What I wonder is how high could you get a CPU with a liquid nitrogen cooler? I wish I knew more about EE because how does supplying more voltage mean it can "process" more? What blows my mind is it's just fucking electrons flowing through billions of transistors and that translates into everything computers can do.
Overclocking is pretty safe as long as you don't go too crazy with the voltages, that's where you have to be careful. Too much voltage to the cpu can fry it. So, If you're new to overclocking and you're nervous about messing with the voltages manually, you can always leave the voltage alone. Or, enable the auto overclock voltage feature in the bios if your bios has that feature, which has a fail safe that doesn't allow the CPU to go past a certain voltage. Then, just increase the clock speeds by 100mhz until your system becomes unstable. Once it becomes unstable, back down the clock speeds by 100mhz each time and run the benchmark test again each time to get it to a stable clock speed on the default voltage, or what the auto overclock voltage max is. This method is the absolute safest method to overclocking with no risk of damaging your cpu. Sure, you may not be getting the highest overclocks possible out of your cpu doing it this way, but you won't be at risk of frying it either by putting too much manual voltage on the cpu at once. So, unless you are a very experienced overclocker, then I would never advise doing manual voltage increases if you're a novice.
generally do not use auto voltage... it can cause instability due to the low vCore. basically, it'll drop your voltage too low sometimes and cause a blue screen. be a man and do it manually the right way 😁
@@Vuzen good overclocking motherboards don't do that. If you have a motherboard that causes blue screens from an auto overclock, then you have a bottom basement overclocking motherboard. You dont want to start manually upping the voltage if you're a novice.
My first clock up has already improved my CPU by about 25% and no voltage change needed. Good video. Some people post these videos using only screen capture and because of that they miss out the actual bios part which is the whole focus of the video. Also turns out my MSI motherboard has a Overclock feature which allows me to have all the relevant stats for overclocking my cpu all next to each other so I don't have to keep changing tabs.

Idk how my cpu didnt fry, but god was I lucky. lol.
Just wanted to say i used this method to lightly overclock my CPU (intel i7 2600K) from the base clock of 3.4gHz to about 3.56gHz. Doesn't sound like much but i went from a Cinebench score of like 512 to 766 just from this light overclock. (Also overclocked my RAM from 1333 to like 1387) Downside is that: at this overclock, with a corsair CPU water-cooler no less, im topping at about 75 degrees C. Thats as hot as im comfortable with. And in GTA ONLINE, i went from 30-70 FPS on medium settings 1080p (choppy as hell) to 55-135FPS on ULTRA everything 1080p. Just wanted to say thank you.
Overclocking on the BCLK will give more impovement as it ramps up the whole system CPU, RAM & northbridge which didn't get a mention in the video. Your video card was most likely bottlenecked by the CPU at stock clocks to get that sort of increase as those gains aren't the norm. I've had to underclock a powerful GPU before to get gains when I had a bottleneck. If you can mount the rad on top of the case so it doesn't get hot air from inside it you will get lower temps. Providing you have a decent power supply I would leave the BCLK and try upping the multiplier and northbridge a bit more. Also check your rated memory speed and timings, 1333mhz is stock setting on the 2600K but you can go faster if it is rated higher, also manually set the timings to what it is rated to. I run 2133mhz memory on my Haswell i5 and can go 2400mhz with my FX 8370.
Overclocked i5-9600k 3.7ghz to 4.6ghz (1.125 volts), Works like a dream, with my huge heatsink it wont go over 50 celsius while playing BF V with ultra settings.
For beginner, playing with clock and voltage in BIOS/UEFI is just dangerous. I suggest overclocking by software first (Ryzen Master for AMD and XTU for Intel). That way, if you f*** up, the system or yourself can just force a reboot and everything is reset to the default value. If you screw up in BIOS/UEFI however, there are chances that you'd have to kiss your CPU goodbye. As I said, "for beginner", it's safer to do software overclocking.

This is a great find. A much needed tutorial and all but I'm working with a second hand Dell t5400. I don't have a manual or anything like that. I can't even put a decent GPU in this thing. That's why I need to make this overclocking thing work. I did look to see if my Intel Xeon e5420 was overclockable I saw that there were videos on how to do it but you've got me kinda leery to try since alot of the fixes deal with having the manual. With this workstation do you think I should even try?
Cheapest way to do anything with that CPU is to get something like an Asus Rampage socket 775 mobo and do the socket mod and get the strip off ebay that cover the correct pins in the CPU. Any X48 or P45 motherboard should work and you will be able to fit a decent graphics card too. I recently got an X48 Gigabyte board for £50. You might be able to run as high as 3ghz with a decent cooler but with an X48 board you will be able to get faster quad cores for about 20 bucks that will OC way higher.
0:00 I totally disagree, you are increasing your electricity bill and that will increase many bucks not cents in monthly bill, so you are paying extra bucks for more performance
Sorry what did you say i am looking for I just got up to the ratio of the clock but mine is saying 3:00 how do I get it to say the GHz like your one... And where are the voltages. I'm about a 3rd into the tutorial... Thank you!!!
Overclocking can burn out your power supply and VRMs on the motherboard. Do not adjust voltage or touch loadline calibration if you don't know what you are doing!! If the power supply goes it can take out any component it is plugged into. Mine did the hard drive, DVD drive and the USB controller on the motherboard. Upping voltage will degrade the CPU amongst other things much faster and put much more stress on the motherboard. Also don't run stress tests for more than 20 minutes as they will take lots of life off a CPU, you will soon know if things are not right when you get blue screens etc. 1.45v is way to high for general use on a Ryzen, ok for overclocking and benchmarking on an open bench rig but not in a case. I destroyed a few components in my early overclocking days so know exactly what you can get away with. 75 degrees is way too high for that CPU, the package temp will be close to 100 degrees with that reading. Best way to check stability is run benchmarks like X265 4K on HwBot.org If you can get through that on the realtime setting you will most likely be golden. You will get good performance increases making sure the memory speed and timings are set correctly especially on Ryzen. I use 3Dmark Vantage to optimise computers for gaming, every memory setting makes a difference, the fastest speeds and tightest timings are not necessarily the best. I use command rate 3 on my i7 7700K setup and have some of the highest GPU scores in the HwBot OC leagues.
You can on some GPU's with MSI Afterburner, I don't recommend it for normal use but is ok for benchmarking as long as you turn the fans up to 100%. AMD Sapphire cards need TRIX overclocking tool but it doesn't work on all of them. Other way is volt modding but you need uprated cooling to make it worthwhile, more volts doesn't always equal higher clocks and more performance if you can't get rid of the heat.
Doubt it, if you do it on the BCLK it will shut down the turbo and you will lose performance. Normally has a 102.5 limit but some a lot will only allow auto setting.
I've been trying to overclock my Hp 15z laptop for ages, it runs at 1.7 GHz but everyone is saying it can go up to 2.7, my bios looks nothing like that and doesn't have the settings mentioned in this video, help anyone?

@DaveDoesGamez my power supply broke it was old so I got a 850 watt
God and informative video :) But the Blue Yeti is a side address microphone! Adjust it to face you properly and your sound will improve:)
me: why do i see my motherboard smel like fries?
oh.. ok.
0:00 I totally disagree, you are increasing your electricity bill and that will increase many bucks not cents in monthly bill, so you are paying extra bucks for more performance
No way🤓
🤓
With such hardware components, anything can be overclocked :D
yup
Nilay Kumar how about my case?
@@duckgodson a case isn't a hardware component
Well done my friend. You have earnt a sub.
your bios looks so cool!
antsolja GIGABYTE BIOS dude!
Sorry what did you say i am looking for I just got up to the ratio of the clock but mine is saying 3:00 how do I get it to say the GHz like your one... And where are the voltages. I'm about a 3rd into the tutorial... Thank you!!!
İ overclocked my ryzen to 15.4 ghz
Edit; my neighbor cant make a simple toast he burned it hard.
Lmao you didn't edit comment
@@victorcruz9059 Sneak 100 hihi
Hey I heard that you can't overclock your cpu if you don't have a motherboard that starts with an "X".. Is this correct?
My i7 went from 3.4 to a fire, now i can make some popcorns
THANKS!
Thank you, big help.
And this was so easy!
Best way to check stability is run benchmarks like X265 4K on HwBot.org
If you can get through that on the realtime setting you will most likely be golden.
Marcus Taylor can I overclock GPU voltage???
You can on some GPU's with MSI Afterburner, I don't recommend it for normal use but is ok for benchmarking as long as you turn the fans up to 100%. AMD Sapphire cards need TRIX overclocking tool but it doesn't work on all of them. Other way is volt modding but you need uprated cooling to make it worthwhile, more volts doesn't always equal higher clocks and more performance if you can't get rid of the heat.
I was led to believe it was a beginner's guide!!!
I have an Intel i5 7400 3.0 GHz motherboard and an MSI b250m motherboard, can I overclock?
MillaDaKilla probably
no,its not overclockable.only intel processors with a letter suffix on can be. sample.i5 7400x,i5 7400y
Doubt it, if you do it on the BCLK it will shut down the turbo and you will lose performance. Normally has a 102.5 limit but some a lot will only allow auto setting.
Instructions unclear, over clocked my gaming chair.
I've been trying to overclock my Hp 15z laptop for ages, it runs at 1.7 GHz but everyone is saying it can go up to 2.7, my bios looks nothing like that and doesn't have the settings mentioned in this video, help anyone?
Rashaan Davis It should be the same process
No a different BIOS means you just need to go to different settings to get to them settings
Do not try to overclock a laptop.
why not?
Just set everything to max. No problem, HP has a safenet if it goes wrong. Voltage to max and there you go!
Instructions unclear, I overclocked the headphones instead
