Good video. I like these because it allows people to confirm that they are "doing it right". Validation is a good thing. Thanks for taking the time. My 1600x on the MSI Pro Carbon X370 with Corsair Vegeance LPX 3200 kit. I get 2933 with profile 1 and 4.0 GHz Stable @1.4v. Using a Hyper EVO 212 my temps stablize at 70C. HWMonitor peports 90C but Ryzen Master reports 70C.
It has been two years and this is still the best Overclocking Ryzen tutorial you can find online. Easy to understand and follow, short and to the point. I still come back to watch this when I fiddle with my r5 1600. Thank you Paul!
Alrighty guys so I recently bought an R5 1500X on an Asrock B350 Pro4 it took me ages to get the correct bios for overclocking. Honestly it was a struggle. Currently I am sitting at a stable 3.9ghz at 1.4V. Using Aida 64 for about an hour I was stable on 62 Degrees on the Wraith Spire. All in all thank you Paul.
@@warmissile6709 for 129$ my R5 1600 is running at 3.9ghz. I could've gone for R5 2600 (155$) and it would maybe run at 4.15ghz. Not worth the difference for me
Note that since the SoC on the CPU includes the memory controller, and the memory controller runs at the speed of the RAM sticks, increasing the SoC voltage can help with memory OC stability.

Thanks a bunch, and keep up the great work!

ryzen has a software that'll let you overclock without going to the bios is their a difference from this way of overclocking then the standard way of overclocking?
tank_mc_dank if you’re talking about doing it through Ryzen Master then I believe you have to open Ryzen Master every time your PC boots or the OC doesn’t kick in. I could be wrong though. BIOS is automatic.
Actually did my OC today without knowing you posted a Guide :) I am very impressed by the spire cooler, my r5 1600 stays below 60C with a 3850mhz clock and standard vcore. When I set the clock to 4ghz @ 1.4-1.41 Volts it is good enough to keep my ryzen at 72-73C in aida64. When raising the clock or voltage further it gets to Hot and crashes.
Rekv1n I use the gigabyte AB350 gaming which is a bit limited in the OC options but an Asus x370 is on its way to me. In my shitty testing case with Bad air flow and my Rx480 the 4ghz OC is not Prime stable because the temps are ryzing to 80 something C. I did not test it in games yet.

I have an r5 1600 and running it stock clock speed, is it really worth overclocking because I've heard it still shortens lifespan even if stable? I know lifespan is relative to the amount of overclock and primarily, the temperature but I'm happy with stock settings but don't know if I'm missing out on a free boost. Thanks!
Hiro Kim As long as it's well cooled, you can overclock that chip just fine and it will last years. You can easily overclock it to the level of a 1600x and a little further with no problem.
Honestly from the videos I've seen overclocking doesn't get you very much extra in video games. I saw one video that said overclocking the ryzen 5 1600x will get you around 4 to 5 frames extra. Doesn't seem worth it to me, unless you're willing to buy a new one at any moment.

I don't understand why the MOST EXPENSIVE Ryzen 5 doesn't come with a cooler. The "They know that everyone who will buy the 1600X is going to get an after market cooler" does NOT fly with me. I am not buying it. First and foremost the absolute lack of coolers that are compatible with Ryzen's AM4 socket out of the box would be the most compelling reason why EVERY CPU of this series needs a stock cooler of some sort. Secondly if every other CPU in this product line comes with a cooler 1800X all the way down to the 1400 come with one EXCEPT the 1600X. Lastly my personal reason for why this move was stupider than shit is that I bought an NZXT Kraken X62, which by the way, says right on the purchase page "compatible with AM4", but come to find out, "compatible with AM4" means buy the cooler then create a service ticket on NZXT costumer service support page and they will SEND YOU THE APPROPRIATE BRACKET IN THE MAIL! Fine, I get it, a little misleading but technically that does make it compatible. Oh no, but it doesn't end there, IT TOOK A MONTH AND A HALF FROM THE DAY I ORDERED THE BRACKET TO THE DAY IT ARRIVED IN THE MAIL!! EVERY TWO WEEKS ID GET SOME BULL SHIT MESSAGE THAT "WE REGRET TO INFORM YOU THAT WE ARE CURRENTLY OUT OF AM4 BRACKETS. WE ARE EXPECTING MORE TO ARRIVE BY NEXT WEEK. ONCE THEY ARRIVE WE WILL BE SENDING YOU A MESSAGE WITH YOUR TRACKING NUMBER." They repeated this cycle of "next week, next week" THREE TIMES! So that is my insane rant about why there should be a stock cooler sent with every Ryzen CPU regardless of what AMD thinks "everybody is going to do." P-TO THE MOTHER FUCKING-EACE I'M OUT!

Anxiously awaiting my system to boot with its first OC. Thank you for the guide. I did have to search for HOW to make certain changes to my mobo several times, but I know you can only cover so much with one video.
Got my 1600x @4.1 Ghz , G-Skill ddr4 @3000Mhz , ASUS TUF B350 gaming Plus, GTX1070ti 8gb , 850pro SSD 512mb. I play @2k res and the performances are stil VERY good. AMD rocks !!
Miss my old Phenom II X6 1100T, had a lot of fun with that guy. Managed to reach 4.1Ghz after a few days of clocking. You will for ever me remembered my old friend....
Thank you Paul! Good info that helped me overclock my Ryzen 5 setup. I had problems with the RAM overclock, but the AMD Ryzen Master software helped me work that out.
Best overclock instruction video yet TY. I'm struggling with a Ryzen 7 1700X Overclocking has caused memory holes, intermittent crashes and blurry graphics. Not FPS issues, but rendering issues of video game models and landscapes

Anxiously awaiting my system to boot with its first OC. Thank you for the guide. I did have to search for HOW to make certain changes to my mobo several times, but I know you can only cover so much with one video.
The quality of this video is hard to understate. I got my R5 1600 in the 98th percentile using this method. Thank you very much for sharing it!

Vary informative. Thanks for the vid. Added to favourites for a later date
