This is my 28th filmed project, and also my first project on the new lathe! I am truly amazed at the vision you all see in a piece of wood that doesn't have much form, and you turn it into a stunning work of art. Thank you for sharing your love of this craft. How I would long for this kind of ability.

i am doubly stunned! Not only did you reveal the physical beauty of the wood, your videography of its creation is a masterpiece itself!

As any woodturner develops his/her craft, one learns that the wood dictates the art. This is probably the finest example of this. You saw the absolute beauty of the piece and did as the wood directed you. Only a true craftsman can accomplish this. Thank you for sharing your talents and skills with us. A magnificent piece!!!

Once again I scratch my head at how you “see” the possibilities out of a hunk of a tree before you begin. Another great piece of art. Cheers!

I was heard a young artist asked how he created his pieces. He said that he would look at a piece of wood, see what was in it and let it out.

I’m normally not a fan of ash for turning, but this is amazingly well done, and very warm toned with your finish. After the tung wax the sheen level looked really great. Not plasticky like some finishes, but just right. Great job!!

Thank you for not chatting on incessantly and mugging for the camera. Your excellent work speaks for itself - both your woodturning and your videography. Superb camera angles - just enough to make it interesting but not over top and annoying. Magnificent woodturning art. A true pleasure to watch.

Your art is never “exceptionally mediocre” great shirt. But seriously, DAAAAAAAMMMMN DAVID!!! I always love seeing your visions come to life. I enjoy watching and slowly seeing what you envisioned and saw in the chunks of wood that no one else sees when they see a tree stump. I’m too basic and although an artist in a way, I have always envied TRULY CREATIVE MINDS.

For the past few months I cannot drive by the different woods near my home without glancing at fallen trees and broken bits of trunks and branches without imagining what could be done with them with the right tools and talent- seeing this video has moved me closer to being able to imagine those possibilities more clearly. I am an artist working in drawing and painting and there is always a little voice speaking to me in various inspirations 'try this' and I have learned over time to actually listen and give those things a try and my life has never been the same.
I watch you (and by the way the video production of this is excellent) and that voice begins to speak again. Love what you are able to do. Maybe someday I shall take a class in woodturning and see what I am capable of in this arena. Continued good luck and success to you in your own art.

I had a Jet lathe similar to the one that appears at the start of this video, and I also outgrew it, fast! I replaced it with a Powermatic 3520B, which was much, MUCH better! I turn mostly hollow forms (through a small opening, down to about an inch, which is small on a 12" HF). I COULD use an even bigger lathe, but I do believe in limitations. This will probably be my last lathe, though I could still use a nice hefty VicMarc chuck...

One beautiful PacMan-I mean Live-edged bowl. Absolutely gorgeous. Another of your products and my wish list keeps growing. When I win the lottery.....
I don’t know about lathes other than they turn blocks of wood. However, when you debuted the new lathe, I could instantly see a major set of differences. It’s obvious you’ll be able to turn larger pieces of wood and the hand test is curved. That feature makes so much sense for the wood turner that works with shorter chunks as opposed to 40” in length and smaller diameter wood for table legs. Plus the sheer size of the machine is noticeably larger. It appears so rugged like it will last a long time.
Congratulations on the new lathe. I’m so glad you were able to get the new machine for yourself. I can only imagine the magnificent pieces you will create now and can’t wait to see more. Take care and stay healthy. 💕 from my new home in Nebraska.
