I really like that you didn’t fill in the burls and “imperfections” with epoxy. The gaps in the wood really added nice character to the finished piece.
If it were clear epoxy, that could be cool. Right now, I'm not exactly sure what he was trying to make, but with the epoxy, or resin, he could have a more complete appearance to the art.
Personally I love the pieces which use epoxy as a key part of the art. But I can see that it would only be a small part of this piece. So can see why Andy went this way. It worked out well, even if not to my aesthetic taste.
I already know this will be amazing before I even watch. ❤ My dad was a master carpenter and he was always working on something and sometimes it’s nice to hear the same noise again.
I totally get that feeling! There's something so comforting and nostalgic about those familiar sounds. It's like being transported back to those moments of watching a skilled craftsman at work
The colors and grain structure of the Yew wood is simply beautiful, and you bring out its best! I so enjoy the piece I purchased from you months ago. Everyone that sees it comments on how beautiful it is! Love watching you create these works of wooden art!
Always was my favourite subject in school learning how to use a lathe. Wish somebody had told me i could have made a career out of it. I will just have to live vicariously through you. 😊
I qualified as an Automobile Engineer from the Austin in the 60's . Got my degree and suddenly asked myself, what are you doing? Started wood turning and absolutely loved it! It's never too late either!
It's never too late to learn, my father was a farmer but he started wood turning in his 60s , built his own lathe buying pieces at the auction, and had items go all over the world.
I lived off-grid on the sea for 13 years, had own anchorage & a small rustic float camp 6 miles from Tofino BC. Yew wood around there was harvested for the coldest times since it burned like coal. Heard rumor of a registry for yew but never researched the largest specimen found. Found one more that 3 foot diameter & I harvested almost a dozen large (dead) branches the size of a man`s waist but left the massive live trunk & a couple live branches.
Just found you a few weeks ago. Have never in my life knew how stuff like this was made & I couldn’t be happier to be learning. Your videos have been helping me fall asleep haha. They’re so satisfying & relaxing. Keep making your beautiful art. You’re incredible 🤍
Wow! Andy this piece is simply amazing a great job! I liked the gouge cam angle a great deal, hardly any shake to the picture and was a smashing perspective. Youve instilled some ideas as all we woodturners can do is look at a lump of wood and think which way it will go. Your easy steady is also a great , been thinking about one myself. Thanks for your video! Cheers
Amazing piece Andy!!! Yew wood is the ultimate wood for turning, its just magical. Every yew tree is different and unique, and every piece tells a story throught the slow growing and beautiful grain! 🎉
Finally, someone who takes the corners off before turning. Unless you do woodturning yourself, you don't know how much that initial juddering can strain your hands and wrists.
I loved two things that caught me by surprise. Using a chainsaw to take off the big pieces and to better balance it. Genius. Then, that awesome jig with three adjustable rollerblade wheels to better stabilize the piece for internal hollowing. Again, genius. I appreciate how careful you are with the work, how dangerous this actually is, and how you take every precaution so we can just enjoy the art. 😊
Completely and totally agree. What random TREASURES come from the WOODS. All that's necessary here, is a 'DISCIPLINED HAND, to bring out the BEAUTY. Really quite amazing. Thank you.
If I were a homeowner I would definitely have a shop and in that shop there would be a lathe. Also a bunch of other woodworking tools as I love to carve. You inspire me my friend.
Well done. This is something definitely deserving of experience. Can be very dangerous with all those rpms. Can snatch one of those tools right out your hand and in the ER you go. Very nice
I love that you took the bark off and kept three holes. So much character in the piece. One question, where did the red wood shown at the beginning go?
Marvelous as usual, contrats and thank you Andy. We like the enhanced audio and the on-tool cam. Does anyone feel like the bench grinder in the background is spinning near 2:20 mark? Illusion or reality, you make the call! Cheers from Oregon, USA!
*That's what she said.*
Well said! 😂😂😂
😂😂😂 bet it doesn't hit as hard as that wood does 😅
Nice.
Bravo good sir
Bro waited his whole life for this moment

I agree! The "imperfections" are where the pieces character lies ❤
Anything with character is pretty good.
I think epoxy work is getting a bit over done, just my opinion, but I've been staying natural with my turnings of late

Bro I can fall asleep to this. It’s like asmr
My dad worked on a fishing boat. He was a master baiter.

Yew is such a gorgeous wood, the grain is just amazing and I really love that you left it natural. Beautiful work Andy
That wood never disappoints, and neither do you! Another gorgeous piece, Andy!
Thank you!
The thumbnail for this looked like a piece of beef. You turned it into a thing of great beauty. Love it.
You look like a piece of beef
That’s what I thought it looked like too lol
Yew did a great job on this one, I'm digging the way out turned out.

Always was my favourite subject in school learning how to use a lathe. Wish somebody had told me i could have made a career out of it. I will just have to live vicariously through you. 😊
Isn't it amazing how those skills stick with you? It's never too late to pick it up as a hobby again
I qualified as an Automobile Engineer from the Austin in the 60's . Got my degree and suddenly asked myself, what are you doing? Started wood turning and absolutely loved it! It's never too late either!
In india there is lack of this type of activities. We just doing studies (books) and written exams in school.😢
Just remember. School gives you nothing for life

I knew when I saw the title this will be good. Yew is probably the best turning wood there is. It has lots of appealing character.
Man the more I see you turn Yew, it just makes me want to get some. One day.😄
Nice work! I have some 4" juniper pieces. Never thought about tuning them that way! Thanks for the inspiration!
A truly wonderful piece, it may look eerie but also charming so congratulations
Andy, this is another great piece of art. You are such a skilled craftsman and I love watching your work. Thank you for sharing.
A beautifil piece, love that you kept it natural.
This is beautiful. You've exposed the beauty in the wood as it is. Just focused on the wood itself. Marvelous!
I gotta admit, you did such phenomenal work on make that fine woodnote vase. I love it!

Always enjoy seeing your insanely gorgeous works!! Beautifully done, sir!!
I'm always delighted to see new videos on your channel. I'm not a woodworker, but I like watching. - Todd in Rochester, New York.
Thank you very much!
Stunning. Absolutely stunning! I'm not one for ornaments, but I'd give anything of yours pride of place.
Thank you!
9:46 - even wood can smile :D
Amazing piece Andy!!! Yew wood is the ultimate wood for turning, its just magical. Every yew tree is different and unique, and every piece tells a story throught the slow growing and beautiful grain! 🎉
Yew never disappoints , it's my favorite , by far the most beautiful wood we have in the west of France...
I never realized that Yew wood was so pretty. Great job Andy, it's beautiful.
Thank you very much!
Beautiful. You took a chunk of wood & within minutes create a vessel with a lovely voluptuous shape. My new favourite! 👏🏻👏🏻
I wouldn’t call it a vessel, it isn’t holding much with those holes in it
Beautiful work Andy, that Yew has a very happy face 😃
The wood never disappoints and neither do you Andy. 👍🏼🇺🇸
I'm really liking the 3-wheel stabilizer jig you made for yourself! Reminds me of my BIL.
Mother Nature makes beautiful things, and you brought it out for everyone to see. Nice work.
Great form. Camera view as you were working the inside was nice. The voids in the side makes unyewsual. Enjoyable as always.
I love the beauty of the wood and the way imperfections become beautiful. Thank you
Finally, someone who takes the corners off before turning. Unless you do woodturning yourself, you don't know how much that initial juddering can strain your hands and wrists.
The most satisfying process to watch is creating something beautiful from a generous heart ❤️
both of yew (never disappoints). another great work Andy.
Andy,
That piece is absolutely gorgeous. Beautiful work.
Thank you.
Many thanks!
Yew wood is impressive stuff. Beautiful colors and extremely dense for a gymnosperm. When I teach wood science I always linger on that for a bit.
Were you a dragon slayer in a former life? Your bravery is astounding!
Beautiful tree, gorgeous wood, an extremely skilful hand and very creative eye = a wonderful vase! 😍
Thank you very much!
good morning Andy, another beautiful, unique piece, like the wood, you never disappoint either, thanks for sharing
I love the most natural of shapes. This piece I would buy! Loved it.

Gorgeous, I would love this piece.

Beautiful wood getting it's due homage. I love it. For me this is what you are all about: turning the unpromising into wonder.
Мастер как всегда молодец!!! Очень интересно наблюдать за созданием очередного шедевра🤝👍👍👍🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The wood never disappoints, and neither do you . Great job 👏
That moment when the oil goes on, wow beautiful 😊
As someone who has only the vaguest idea of the work involved in woodturning, I gotta say I really appreciate when you properly hollow out a vase. 🖐😩👌
Um excelente trabalho amigo parabéns

😮 Gorgeous! That wood is stunning!
Thank you very much!
That is beautiful. Just goes to show that flaws can actually contribute to a beautiful object or person.
I learned wood working back in middle school. Late 80s/early 90s. I always wanted to learn how to use a lathe. Nice piece.
Forget the wood, Yew never disappoint! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Omgoodness. I appreciate your work.
Thankyou
Anyone else see that happy face in the holes?
Beautiful work. I love the hollowing shots.
Thank you very much!
I love the way it looks as if the wood keeps reversing! Beautiful as always!
