- Not sure why the .5 didn't show up on my rating. Oh well, you get the picture. Good times revisiting a song I haven't hears in over 3 decades! :)

In Dave Mustaine's words: "The difference between my version and Metallica's version is I don't have a bastardized version of Sweet Home Alabama in mine."
It's funny because Dave played that as a joke, then Lars heard it and wanted it in without realizing what it was
whats that mean??
Lol
@@eduardotorres7645 It means Dave wrote the Mechanix, and one day during practice Dave screwed up and played Sweet Home Alabama at the end. After they fired Dave and stole his song, they changed the lyrics -which by the way are based on Dave's ideas about the band-and added the slower end at the end of the song that was based on Dave's screw up. Dave wrote the best songs on both KEA and RTL. None of this would still be going on if James and Lars would give the guy the credit he deserves. He should be in the Rock-n-Roll HoF for crying out loud.
@@BBEEAAN Dave played Sweet Home Alabama as a joke at one rehearsal and a very drunk Lars thought it sounded great so he decided to put it in the song when he and James reworked it. The lyrics for Four Horsemen are about the biblical Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse but with changed names (Death, Famine, War, and Conquest vs. Time, Pestilence, Famine, and Death). Two songs out of eight on Ride the Lightning have a writing credit for Mustaine (Call of Ktulu and Ride the Lightning) and imo the lead parts by Cliff and Kirk respectively in those overshadow the riffs a lot in terms of quality. Dave is credited for 4/10 tracks on Kill 'Em All (two of which he objectively didn't have any part in writing, those being Anesthesia and Motorbreath); I'm not sure about how much he wrote of the remaining 4 but I think that Lars getting writing credits for songs that he wrote the vast vast majority of is bullshit.
This is how you get around all the "too much Metallica" criticism.
"Hey, it's a Megadeth song!"
“It’s a Metallica song but not really!” Lol
We all know 4h is x5000 times better, jesus christ. Everything he does just not as good LOL
@@fixxxer7030 I prefer Mechanix
Man, Mechanix sounds like the shit! Whoever wrote this song's riff was high out of his mind for sure
@@VacantSpirit I started out listening to Metellica and learned about Dave after. It was all over once I heard Peace Sells. Nothing mighty Metallica has done, including Master of Puppets, has been able to out do that album, and that isn't discussing RIP. I went back to KIMB after getting hooked on Peace Sells, and was blown away by the raw power and energy of the album. I knew everything Metallica claimed about Mustaine's contributions in Metallica was a lie after that point because Dave is responsible for wroting almost 100% of the greatness on both albums. There is very little in the Megadeth catalog that I don't like, while I personally believe Bob Rock killed Metallica with the Black album -it's been a slow painful death ever since...
Saw a Metallica cover band years ago they came out with four horseman they had a guitar player who looked like Dave. Well about half way thru the song he would speed up the song and start singing. Then the rest of the band stopped. Told him he was fired. The guy was actually the soundman. So he would go back to the board and the real guitar player came out and played the rest of the set.
That would be freaking cool as hell 😂
That’s funny as hell
😂 did he at least say “what no warning? No second chance?” Before walking back?
🤣🤣🤣
Fun
Mechanix = The Fast Horsemen
The First Horsemen. 😁
@Kev Cthulu it's the same song except The Mechanix is played faster
@Kev Cthulu How can you like a stolen song
@@Alex-ig5on Because of personal preference
Yes!!
"It was really hard to figure out what Dave Mustaine was saying." He was singing about sex. You were 13. I had a similar problem with KISS, but in my defense, I was 9.
30 year old Me: Isn't it about motors?
Also me, *looks up the song lyrics*
Still me:
@Angelripper Witchhunter The song is taking sex, one things most guys like, and comparing it to cars, as seen in the chorus
"make my drive shaft crank, make my pistons bulge. make my ball bearing melt from the heat." Being honest, this song is mostly about sex, and just making it so you think it is about a car.
The song has 2 possible meanings. One is what the lyrics point out: The life of a mechanic who knows he's the best in the world, or at least, in his world.
However, the song is a metaphore. Dave had sex with a girl in the old gas station where he used to work and wrote the song about that. This is seen in the chorus and when he sings "I'm giving you my room service and you know it's more than enough, one more time you know I'm in love!"
Haha
Dirty mind... It's about cars.. wink
"May Obama spend the hate" - Dave Mustardstaine
That sounds like something Dave would actually say.
prophetic really
He did arm cartels, airdrop $150billion on an enemy nation that was being sanctioned to keep them from building nukes, increase mass surveillance, take us from 5 wars to 8, sign our internet over to the UN via proxi servers, try to standardized the power grid and force harmful smart meters on the world (watch out for blackouts, an emp would take out the East coast), expose the lack of upgraded missile systems on live TV, stoke racial tensions, and ok the sale of uranium one to Russia. Their is no way he did know about that. I'm sure I missed a few.
Dave is such trash.
@@Vivi_9 Indeed.
Why Megadeth's early albums (Killing is My Business... and Peace Sells) sound like they do is due to the massive influence of jazz from Chris Poland (guitars) and Gar Samuelson (drums) who were jazz musicians prior to Megadeth, plus Dave Mustaine's own bluesy-jazz mixture.
One interesting note: Although much has changed in Megadeth over the years, in many later albums and songs, there is still bits of "Old-school Megadeth" style sound/playing, if one listens carefully for it.
Yes. BTW, Megadeth has many songs that have this bluesy-jazz touch. For example, killing is my business (the song) which I believe has a criminally underrated initial riff, also rust in peace.. polaris (all riffs till the chorus) are very jazzy, I always thought a saxphone line along the rythm guitar would fit perfectly in the part Dave is singing "Winds blow from the bowels of hell
, Will we give warning, only time will tell, Satan rears his ugly head, to spit into the wind..."
Chris Poland is a PHENOMENAL guitarist. He is just on a whole 'nother level
On the *jaaazzzzz* level
Solid guitarist for early Megadeth. Still think Marty is god, though. Kiko and Broderick are my second and third favourite guitar players in Megadeth. I love Poland, but he’s really too similar to Dave in terms of solo writing. Pentatonic and blues scale is great, but when both guitarists live in those zones in one band it kinda blurs together a bit too much. Dave plays better with guitarists who compliment his playing rather than completely mirror his playing like Poland does.
But Chris Poland wrote nothing on Mechanix?
Thats dave mustaine playing lead
I prefer poland to kiko and Broderick
Basically, faster The Four Horsemen without the middle part.
And a much shittier recording fidelity, which is why four horsemen will always be better
but also faster
about secks
and some other thing I forgot idk
@@ATthemusician haha better record deals means better music haha
Nope. Four Horsemen was the slower version of this song. This song existed first.
@@ATthemusician there is a remaster
I listen to Mechanix when I just want an energy ride. The Four Horsemen is more like a journey musically. Both are great in their own ways, but you can really see how the songs changed just by being played/written by different people, even with the (mostly) same riffs.
Yes. The bastardized version of Sweet Home Alabama is a musically journey
Tristan Wright97 you say that like it’s a bad thing
Wrong.. written by same guy
I listen to fight fire with fire whenever I need an adrenaline rush really good song!!
@@robertplant9694 he wrote the music of both but Metallica wrote The Four Horsemen lyrics
Gar Samuelson was a jazz player before and after joining Megadeth, so probably it was on purpose
Nick as well. They were just amazing talents that left us too early.
Not really, after Megadeth he created a metal band called Fatal Opera with his brother stew.
My mother language is russian, and i always thought that's something wrong with me,if i can't understand what foreign performers sang... But when i discovered the truth,i laughed my ass off xD
Actual Lyrics:
Imagine you were at my station
And you brought your motor to me
You're a burner, yeah a real motor car
Said you want to get your order filled
Made me shiver when I put it in
Pumping just won't do you know, luckily for you
Who ever thought you'd be better
At turning a screw than me
I do it for my life
Made my drive shaft crank
Made my pistons bulge
Made my ball bearings melt from the heat
We were shifting hard when we took off
Put tonight all four on the floor
When we hit top and you know it feels too slow
Said you want to get your order filled
Made me shiver when I put it in
Pumping just won't do you know, luckily for you
GUITARKING5158 Dave was kinda gross lmao
This was one of those songs that I always liked but I had never looked up the lyrics. I like these way better than The Four Horsemen lol
This came out when I was in high school, back then my friends & I all thought the lyrics were just the Four Horsemen backwards, as a F*U to Metallica. I think the idea is right, just not the lyrics.
@@fl4shbangz yeah I always liked the megadeth version better, but I just like Megadeth better. I did a video on how to play this song a stupid long time ago, but it's still up lol
When they play it live it sounds more like "said you want to get your motor filled" rather than "order filled"
5:49 Gar doesn’t make mistakes...
Considering he was high as a kite when he recorded this i think he was a little bit sloppy
He actually did a little mistake on good mourning black friday
RIP gar
peteMTB listen to the drum track
I literally don't see how that moment was a mistake. Just nitpicking at that point
The crazy thing is that when they play it live it's even faster!
This is not related to this album or song, but I'm just learning the Tornado of Souls solo and I'm about 1/3 the way through. This is my first Megadeth song ever and I'm looking forward to learning more. I gotta say though, this solo has been a challenge, probably the most challenging I've done so far. I'm just hoping I'll get better at playing the solo, it's kinda been a dream of mine since I picked up the guitar.
Airbolt Well good luck my man. as THE BEST METAL SOLO EVER. !!
Try learning songs like Sweating Bullets first. I mean, you can go through Tornado's solo but they are some licks that are almost impossible to pick up.
you using tabs or playing by ear?
how long have you been playing guitar?
I just learned like 2/3 then dropped it lol. Up until the crazy stretches it's amazing, then the final noodling at the end is just ehh
7:21 Gar Samuelson was seriously one of the most underrated drummers of 80's metal.
IMO better than Ulrich, Lombardo, and maybe even Benante. (also underrated)
I can see that, he was so clean and the recording wise great sounds
The lyrics are about a guy getting laid, but they're metaphors for things you'd find in a mechanics workstation like pistons and drive shafts etc
Wasn't it because Dave got laid in a gas station?
This song is the epitome of Dave giving the finger to his former bandmates... and with style! I actually prefer Mechanix over Four Horseman, Gar's drumming never gets old
Can anybody and everybody please also acknowledge the fact that we have two forgotten heroes who contributed to this album .
Gar Samuelson and Chris Poland ............. The legends themselves . Anyone with me?
1:53 proof that Mike is actually an extended physical embodiment of his guitar, he does a pick scrape on the guitar, and that leads to him feeling the similar scratch on his back.
Before this quarantine business you were just another UA-cam guitarist to me. You have quickly become one of my favorite UA-cam channels over this break. Keep up the Metallica videos!
uhm..
@@catStone92 😂
Can you imagine the legal battles if two bands did this today?!
Kay well I’m pretty sure Dave wrote this riff so no battle required
@@seanclarke6733 yes, it's true
Dave didn't write the riff; this is the song he brought to Metallica, which morphed into The Four Horsemen. He has a songwriting credit on this (and Jump In The Fire and Metal Militia) on Kill 'Em All, but he's the sole songwriter on Killing Is My Business (except for the cover of These Boots, obviously).
@@derpimusmaximus8815 Yeah, that's correct. He'd already written the whole song before even joining Metallica; they simply did their own thing with it. I find it kind of disrespectful that Metallica didn't write a new riff for the song after firing Mustaine, but I can kind of understand why they kept it considering how difficult re-writing it around a new riff would be. That said, it sucks that the original writer of the song published it second, forever trapped behind the veil of "That's just a Metallica song but worse."
He had to had "Kill" in his debut album too
And "Yeah" at the end
He's probably saying "yeah" because that's probably how James sang it when they were in Metallica together.

Dave has such a unique lead style. I love it.
True American Hate or Formation of Damnation are SLAMMING Testament songs.
damn fuckin right
What about Native Blood?
For real but if he’s doing newer Testament I recommend Children of the Next Level from their new album Titans of Creation
The intro riff to Formation of Damnation is absolutely brutal
Man True American Hate is the angriest song ever
2:56 | It's time for my yearly whale flush.
Enjoyed that! I'm impressed on how easily you figured out parts! As an old dude, I'm impressed with the guys who play these songs. So many changes, notes, and etc. How in the heck do they remember each note of a solo??
I absolutely LOVE your lyrics. They are now the official ones for me lol.
Also. This is my favorite Megadeth song I've had the pleasure to learn how to play since I picked up playing!
Side note** In regards to the drummer switching to the ride with the high hat. I'm not sure which "version" you're listening to, but after the last line, it repeats the verse
"whoever thought you'd be better.
At turning the screw than me.
I do it for my life, F*** YEAH!"
made my drive shaft crank.
Made my Pistons bulge.
Made my ball bearings melt from the heat!"
It was strange to me to hear it this way. (Listen to it everyday, no joke.) But I really enjoyed your video and you playing along to it.
Hands down my favorite song I decided to learn, even if I am a complete beginner! (I can almost play all of rhythm 😅)
It's what I like about killing is my business, the attitude on the whole album. Really punk. Really fast. May sound chaotic and not well built but the playing overall is tight, Mustaine is crazy, Poland puts insane licks, Samuelson plays very fast fills very tight, Ellefson plays loud... And you can feel Dave's anger throughout.
I prefer Peace Sells because the songwriting is on another level. But this first album is impressive and a big kick in the face.
It's like kill em all on steroids.
Yeah both those debut albums were a basically a kick in the teeth
This song predicted Obama... awesome
Hahahaha I thought the same thing! lol
that accurately predicted him as a LOSER

Bahahahaha OMG Mike, this video was so worth it for the subtitles alone. "Whale flush me better" and "Made my jock shade grey" . . . I had tears coming from my eyes from laughing so hard. You have got to do a few 'there are the lyrics as I hear them' videos! I have been needing a good laugh to raise my isolated spirits, and this hit the mark in spades. Thank you very much for covering this one!
So glad this was suggested for me. The subtitles have me crying! Hilarious stuff!
Gar Samuelson and Chris Poland are very underrated! Rest in peace Gar!
Holy goodness these captions had me rollin lol great video though. I too had heard the four horsemen first and when I heard the mechanix for the first time it was actually the demo version and it totally blew me away.
Mechanix is actually on the no the life til’ leather demo with James singing it!
It's cool to see you jammin' out and feeling the energy! :D
Loving this series!!! And gotta say The newest Testament album kicks ass and I would love to see you react to it!

I can’t unhear that now. He says you’re a burner yeah a real motor car but that’s cool.
I love your videos! Great guitarist!
Hey Mike, I've really been loving this series, really cool stuff. Wondering if you've heard the new Testament album that came out a few weeks back? Might be cool to do an episode on one of those songs if you haven't heard 'em.
Are you why my Mechanix cover from literal years ago has suddenly gotten an increased rate of views?
I mean that in a nice way because this video is awesome my dude.
you have amazing talent, the first few seconds and you played it, I wish I could do that
There's a demo version of Mechanix that's even better imo.
How bout "Diadems" from Hidden Treasures/Demon Knight soundtrack!!
Couldn't agree more!
you should do this same with good mourning black friday... I would love to see you play those riffs or poland leads!
I really really love these videos, and this song!!!

Dave wrote The Mechanix BEFORE he joined Metallica. it's from his previous band - PANIC.

From what I understand, dave wanted the song to be fast when he brought it to metallica, but they ended up performing the sluggish version that later ended up becoming 4hm. As good as 4hm is, mechanix is the may the song was always meant to be.
Yooo those lyrics hahahah, the aproach to the song and style of video is interesting, would be grear if you do this with Wake Up Dead or any song from Peace Sells or Killing is my Bussiness, cheers from Argentina
Awesome video, fun song to hear after getting used to horsemen. Unrelated, but what is the thing on the SG’s bridge.
dave did eventually write his own epic song about the four horsemen called blessed are the dead
This is the song that got me hooked on guitar
You had the same experience I did with this song. After hearing Four Horseman so much this sounded like a fast version being sung in Chinese or something.

Well I think that since watching this video I definitely like version with Obama
Awesome stuff! There's a demo version of Mechanix on a deluxe or special edition version of Killing Is My Business which is even faster!
That's some sick speed right there. If you're gonna continue the Megadeth videos, Can you do Hangar 18 next?
I enjoy both songs and I think they both have their own sections that make them special, like that heavy intro to Mechanix, and Horsemen has an amazing guitar solo written by James. But The Four Horsemen edges it out imo, I like the riff in its speed and the lyrics are way better.
I prefer The Four Horseman because it has better lyrics, the riff sounded like a horse galloping rather than guy who's just trying to play as fast as possible, and I could understand what James was saying.
PrometheusTV totally agree. Feels much more epic and the rythm is just right... As all metallica tracks it's just put together with magic
On the other hand tho I appreciate the mechanix for being one of the fastest thrash songs ever, so respect to both
Yeah Dave is just a gross and plain terrible at lyrics and this just doesn't aound good. I heard megadeths version first and couldn't stand it but I like metallica's version
Plus The Four Horsemen has the beautiful cleanly picked solo, which is the cherry on top of an already amazing song.
@@Taylor-ou7xp Yeah that's why James is abetter rhythm guitarist than Dave.
Hey WTF did you say?? This song is not 'played the fastest possible' this song emulate a FUCKING MOTOR RUNNING, i have TONS of bands emulating gallops (iron maiden coff coff) but megadeth is the first band doing a motor engine souding. So Megadeth was 1 step ahead in terms of geniality in theirs debut albums.

5:36 As to the hi-hat to ride crossover: gar was known for just being all over the kit so, from my inference (which probably means nothing) he most likely just decided to spice up the sound a bit so when he switched over , the sound of the ride really popped out to the ears. Sorta like How it popped out to you!
But you are most likely right. He was probably just on a bender going nuts on the kit and fucked up a tad.

i love the misheard lyrics lol. honestly impressive that you managed to play along for some parts, even if you know how to play the four horsemen
Gar Samuelson! 🙌🙌 This was AWESOME!
what's that red paint shade and brand? it's really cool
gar samuelson was a jazz drummer originally, i think all the stuff he did, that sounded like it was an accident probably was intentional xD also he was high as a kite most of the time, so that might have played a role too.
They never mastered this recording originally. Which is why it's sounds so raw.
Yeah, the solo sounds a little bit like Holy Wars because at least in my vision, that's Mustaine shred style, with the grouping of 3 notes per string that he always used in lots of solos, especially in old Megadeth songs
There are two ways you can hear this next song. There's our way, and then there's their way. In case you think this is their way, this song is called Mechanix.
The ride transition makes sense to me, he went from hihat, to two crash hits down to the ride. He probably went left to right on the crashes and then his hand would be right near his ride, plus the hihat crushed kinda sound during the solo probably wouldn't sound as good
PLEASE MORE MEGADETH I LOVE THIS!

Triple thumbs up, Mike! Perfect song, seems you're really into this stuff... simply wonder how old you are...? must be my age, or somewhat around, 75, isn't it... though you look very very young for that...
Anyway, you really captured the difference between those two bands...! Just imagine, they wouldn't have Dave Mustaine out of the band... then there would be no Megadeth... so good James was slapped into his face...(and this is not meant offensive)...
That whole first album is awesome. K.I.M.B. is just complete chaos from start to finish!

Testament release an album earlier in April 2020. It’s called Titans of Creation, if interested. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
I hear a little bit of "Flight of the Wounded Bumble Bee" in the solo.
Wanna hear the gnarliest guitar tone ever? Listen to Mechanix from the Last Rites demo. Truly extraordinary.
Edit: listen to the tone at around the 1:42 mark in the demo. That has never been topped, in my opinion, in terms of sheer throat-ripping nastiness.
The misheard lyrics should be a part of all of the videos 🤣
