Can you imagine a nine minute track with multiple guitar solos becoming a Top 10 hit all across the world, nowadays?! I remember when it came out - it was on the radio all the time, I even bought the single to play at home. When the song enters its coda, I still get goosebumps

Even I understand what you (and all the other comments below) are trying to express I think it cannot be compared. I love Slash's solos, as well as David Gilmour's ones, also Gary Moore or also my favorite John Petrucci of Dream Theater.
The problem is you cannot measure "who is better". Someone likes one style, someone else likes the other. And it is total nonsense to even "fight or argue" about this.

This is one of the first music videos I worked on in the art dept. Nigel Dick directed it and I was a huge fan of his work. Axel was dating the model in it Stephanie Seymour and she was so nice when we put her in the coffin and dressed it. We didn't see anyone else in the band until it came time to roll cameras. They were so huge at that point they avoided the crew through the whole shoot. Good times though got free tix to their next show in LA.

Axl Rose wrote the song over course of 8 years. It was worth the wait. This is a power ballad, so there are many heavy metal songs from them as you will find out. This was the 1st song of the 20th century, that hit 1 Billion streams online in later years. The video was also the most expensive video ever made at the time. So you are being introduced to one heck of a song for a 1st GNR song. LOTS of others. This was off their 3rd album (double album). I'd recommend their debut hit next "Welcome To the Jungle".

Good reaction, Stacey. But just to explain the video, it was actually the 2nd part of a 3-part song/video series by GnR. Anyway, the story is, that Axl Rose's character had a fiancè, but he cheated on her and she ended up taking her own life with a gun. The entire wedding scene is him dreaming of himself and his then-alive fiancè actually getting married. But that wedding ceremony never actually took place. What actually took place at the church was her funeral rites.
Also regarding the fiancè's casket, that mirror in there is next to her face since she took her own life. That practice (with the mirror in the casket) is an old Catholic custom, if I'm not mistaken. I'm Catholic, but I only vaguely recall that, so I'm not 100% certain. Also, hinted at in the music video is the fact that friends are there for you during the happy times, as symbolized by the packed wedding and wedding reception. But 'friends' are not there for you during the hard times, as symbolized by the sparsely-attended funeral service.

  • @Efferri

I'm sure others have clarified. When she's getting in the car after the wedding, she doesn't look happy. This song is about love with someone that is depressed. When she's in the casket, notice there's a mirror that's hiding the left side of her face. I always thought that was indicating she shot herself. Such a great, moving song.

I've been watching your videos for a while now, but this reaction was the one that made me subscribe. I'm watching this on Sunday November 3rd. My Late wife's Birthday.. Ten years ago we lost her to Cancer. Of course I know this song and video. I saw it growing up as a kid. Later on it haunted me. Watching you watch this I lived the whole thing again. Meeting her, courting her. marrying her loving her for the not quite twelve years we had. Then the pain, the fear. her death. The grief and the loss. All of it relived in less then ten minutes. Ever since Jodi's passing, I could never cry for her without some music around. That grief, still so heavy, I can never release it without help. This is one of those songs that helps me do that and you just happened to post it so I saw it on her Birthday. I could remember, cry a little while and see all of it again, so vividly. I feel like it ought to be raining, but the sun's shining brightly here. It's life, it's death. We can't change it, all we can do is remember. It hurts, but that's because it was the real deal, the one, the only. And the strange thing is we both loved taking walks in the cold November rain. I'm walking for both of us now, and thanks for bringing it back for me today. My own little memorial to help me process once again what can never truly be processed. It hurts, but it helps. It lowers the pressure, lets some of it out. Why I appreciate the music so much. Great reaction.

I was like 12 or 13 when I first heard that song and saw that legendary MV. I remember a cousin of mine, who was already in high school, pointing at the TV and telling me: THAT is rock'n'roll. Thus began my passion for that register. With the Guns N' Roses. More specifically with the LAST part of November Rain. Almost thirty years later, I hear it, and it's still, to me, one of the best things that ever happened to the 90's.
Oh, and who cares HOW she dies? What matters is that their story was doomed. Sure, narratively, it's a little bit abrupt, but visually, it works.

I know how much you love Queen, Axle Rose has been singing with them on tour for a while now. A small anecdote, i was in LA and was taken to The Rainbow on Sunset, my friend had been a patron for decades, even had his own named seat. This was the original Hard Rock Cafe, with all the memoribilla on the walls. Still frequented by many stars. My first visit I didnt know actually anyone in Guns and Roses other then Axel Rose, and Slash (. minus the hat) came to say hi to my friend, I thought he was a waiter and ordered a cocal cola from him, to much amusement.
Another of your favourites also frequented The Rainbow, John Entwistle, I dont think many even new WHO he was, he was looking rather old and ill , he was very hospitable and my wife and I sat down with him as I explained to her WHO he was, she is Russian and much younger, and even after explanation was non the wiser. Apparently he owned a castle somewhere outside LA, unfortunately died not long after

@@paulmargett9360 Your right he didnt tour , first it was a Tribute concert to Freddy, he sang Bohemian Rhapsody, with Elton John., but that was way back in 1992. I know Adam lambart has toured now for many years with Queen, Ive seen them, now I cant be 100% sure but I thought Axel had stood in for Adam for some reason, maybe he was sick or it could have been a charity event. But I stand corrected

In the late 1980s, Slash and Stephanie's paths crossed in the midst of the rock world’s chaos. Slash was shining as the lead guitarist of Guns N' Roses, while Stephanie was at the top of the fashion world, making headlines with her turbulent relationship with Axl Rose.
It all began during the filming of the November Rain music video. When Slash was performing his iconic solo scene in a desert-like setting, he caught a glimpse of Stephanie in her wedding dress. As he looked over at her with a warm smile in the wedding scene, an invisible connection formed between them, as if they had just truly discovered one another beyond the scene itself.
Throughout the shoot, their conversations deepened. Slash's passion for music and Stephanie’s elegance created a hidden bond that Axl wasn’t aware of. Slash could see the vulnerability in Stephanie, a quiet sadness beneath her glamorous exterior. Stephanie, in turn, saw beyond Slash's rock-star persona and sensed a fragile spirit within him. Both were alone in their own worlds, but together, even if only briefly, the shadows seemed to lift.
One evening after filming, they met at a quiet bar. As the November rain poured down the windows, they talked for hours about guitars, life, and memories. Slash played Stephanie a melody that had been haunting him, and they both knew they’d never forget this night. But they also understood that their special connection could never overshadow Stephanie’s commitment to Axl.
In the days that followed, Slash and Stephanie remained as memories in each other’s lives. Slash wove the melody he’d played for her into one of his later songs. Stephanie, meanwhile, held on to the memory of Slash, carrying their brief, unforgettable moments in a secret corner of her heart.
And every time the November rain fell, they both remembered that night-a fleeting but true friendship, hidden yet cherished.

    Without You
Del's short story Without You is credited by hard rock band Guns N' Roses as the inspiration for the song November Rain and its music video.
Most of the plot is told in the form of flashbacks. Mayne Mann, aged 28, is a top-selling rock musician. But the suicide of his girlfriend Elizabeth has left him depressive and questioning the meaning behind everything.
Although Elizabeth had been the love of Mayne's life, his frequent infidelity had brought about the end of their relationship. The last straw was when after Mayne's final concert with his previous band, Elizabeth had walked in on a threesome between him and two groupies. In the aftermath, during one of their last dates, Elizabeth had told him, "I can't live with you and I can't live without you." Her words had inspired him to write the ballad Without You, which portrays his view on their breakup and has become a top hit. When his new band went on tour and performed in Elizabeth's hometown L.A., he had sent her backstage passes. When she did not show up, Mayne had been determined not to repeat his past mistake, had skipped the after party and gone straight to her home. As Mayne was on his way up to her apartment, Elizabeth had shot herself in the head, with Without You playing on an endless loop in the background. In a rush, Mayne had taken the revolver from her dead hand and tried to shoot himself, but there had been no more bullets left.
Life in the fast lane has taken his toll on Mayne: he has hearing issues, is a heavy drinker and drug consumer and, presumably as a result of his girlfriend's suicide, on various kinds of medication. He avoids things that bring back memories of Elizabeth, such as the mansion in which they had spent most of their time, or radio stations that might play Without You.
The story begins as Mayne, after a night of heavy drinking and drug consumption, awakes from a recurring nightmare in which he relives Elizabeth's suicide. Still hung over from the previous night, he starts the day with a beer and eventually spends the whole morning with alcohol, drugs and memories of Elizabeth. In a fit of rage he begins to smash the furniture in his apartment and even most of his collection of vintage guitars, suddenly seeing them as the gateway to his fame and his misery. He briefly considers shooting himself but then changes his mind and starts to play, first on his favorite and last remaining guitar, then on the piano. In the meantime, a burning cigarette which has fallen off the edge of a table has set the apartment on fire. Yet Mayne ignores it and continues to play until he dies in the flames.

As a kid driving around with my dad on his every other weekend visitations, I got an amazing musical potluck of great bands, and the Beatles were his favorite. So by HS of the late 80's, I was a fan as well, and then G n R came on the scene, and changed my fandom. I can still remember the 1st time I heard "Paradise City", where I was, what I was doing, etc. I was a HUGE fan, especially for their debut album "Appetite for Destruction", and their follow up LP's led to what you have here. I wasn't the biggest fan of where they went from that album, but I can't deny a song and video like this, truly epic at the time.

This song has two special memories for me. One good and one bad.. The first was at a concert in 1992 with Guns n' Roses where I met a nice girl who sat on my shoulders at the front of the audience.. We had a relationship in our teenage years after that. The bad memory was when this song was played at a funeral.. The song is so long, so people started screwing up after the interlude when the up tempo came.

G'n'R ballads have amazing lyrics, grew up with them, but over the years I started to actually listening to the lyrics, they are amazing, as a non English speaking person, I normally listen to the rythem and mood in a song first, I Hear lyrics, but not as a story, that's why I love when they had music video's in the 90 and 00's that show that the lyrics are important

My thoughts on this masterpiece song is that it tells the story of falling in love and the eventual ending of that once beautiful love. It speaks to me that way as I was married to what I thought was my soulmate and the most beautiful woman in the world on a bright and sunny November day …. We had my storybook life of a marriage filled with love , happiness and laughter as we brought our two children into the world together. But like this song says ,” Nothing last forever “ and after ten years our love “ died” and we were divorced on a cool , cloudy and rainy November day that left me in tears as I walked out of the courthouse in that cold November Rain as my world as I knew it was over then. So in this song / video the sunny wedding day is a metaphor for the couple falling in love and being in love … while then the darkness comes over and the cold November Rain starts to fall and her death is really just a metaphor for their relationship and love dying and the funeral is showing him now having to go on with his life alone. I feel this song could have been written about my life and how it happened…. “ nothing last forever, even a cold November Rain” 🌧️ ☔️❤️💖❤️‍🩹💔💙🖤😢
