The absolute best generation to grow up in! Hands down!!! The culmination of the best of the best music from all genres! You really had to be there to really appreciate the people and the music of the time! Proud Gen Xer! 👏🙌💯
Our parents raised us with iron fist and punishment. Every day they instilled within us responsibility, accountability, and actions. We had the best music. We were the youngest to survive on our own. We had the music to help overcome so much growing up, but I think as we get older we realize what hell we went through but it made a stronger and better in the long one. Music like this could never be copied or replayed a thousand times like it was back of the day.
For real. And we were the original “latchkey” kids taking ourselves to school and back home, feeding ourselves after school, riding our bikes and out playing with our friends in the neighborhood until dark. We were raised learning to take care of ourselves from the time we were in grade school. We were the first generation to adopt personal technology, mobile phones, computers, internet, as well as the last generation to know what life was like before all that (it was much better socially). When we die off, there will be no one left to remember what it was like to truly connect with the world around us without the barrier of a screen between us all.
If you watch the video again, pay close attention to the lyrics and her facial expressions. She was struggling with depression. You can even see when she gets into the car after the wedding, she's so depressed looking. She committed suicide (via gun to the head), which is why they used a mirror on half of her face in the casket at the funeral. Sad stuff. 😔 EPIC song and video.
Fun fact if you kill yourself you can't be buried in the Catholic church it's a Cardinal sin you go to hell. Her funeral wouldn't of been held at a Catholic Church if you did commit suicide.
If you notice when they were all shown "happy" it was from his point of view. He was happy so he thought they were happy. He walked by the gun store. Gave her the wedding he thought would make her happy, but it wasn't enough. She used a 🔫 and committed suicide on their wedding day; that is why it was in the same church and why she buried in her wedding dress. The bride in the video was Axel's gf at the time. Slash hated the song, but grew to appreciate the genius of it. I would recommend "Sweet Child of Mine" next.
Civil War was a big hit from these albums, and is still relevant to this day. It's one of their best songs IMO. the lyrics to this have bars and truths in them
Her death is representative of the idea things don't always work out and nothing lasts forever. It's symbolism that she died. He was happy af and then tragedy struck. Lyrics: "Nothing lasts forever - even cold November rain..." His bride is a metaphor for things begin and end -- its what we do between that counts.
It's not that she died right after the wedding, the rain coming in is just a representation of how fast life can change. One more you're happy enjoying life and the sun coming down the next outs raining on your life and things change fast and happens in the cold Nov rain
She literally did die after the wedding in the story. Suicide. It's in the short story mentioned at the end of the video. Don't Cry, then November Rain, and then Estranged are all parts of the same story.
@thedave1602 I was referring to them thinking that she died because of the storm that came in during the reception. It's been awhile since I watched this reaction but I think they asked if she died in that storm, if that's what caused her death, I was saying no, it wasn't during or caused by the rain and the storm
Those 80's rock bands were talented and great... I still don't know how that genre of music just died off as quick as it did. The music is timeless. I just wish that they shared an equal space today with hip hop/rap the way that it did 30 years ago...
The industry stopped being behind it. Found a new sound that can be paid little and pump it up to high returns. Then those artist get too big and the labels find a new sound they can pay a little and hope for high returns.
'Don't Cry', 'November Rain' and 'Estranged' are a video trilogy done based on the short story 'Without You' by Del James (book author and road manager for GnR)
This song is one of my favorites from Guns & Roses. I literally cried when they played it a couple of years ago when I went to see them for the first time in concert.
Excellent choice. This song is a Masterpiece. Guns n Roses was phenomenal. Their first album, Appetite For Destruction is a must listen. All bangers from start to finish.
GNR has a ton of bangers: Civil War (lyric vid for that one) Paradise City You Could Be Mine Rocket Queen My Michelle And a ton more. Their debut album is considered one of the best debuts of all time.
For me this song really hits home, there was a time I loved someone who was incapable of returning it! This song always brings back those painful memories from 25 years ago!
@@adogbewise6561 Both videos have superb cinematography, too! 🎥 🙂 To be superficial l will also say that Stephanie Seymour and Axl Rose were a beautiful couple.😊
GnR was such a great band. They did great ballads and amazing, straight forward hard rock songs as well. Its a shame they couldnt get along and put out music for very long.
Didn't this come out in 92? Grunge took over but guns n roses were the only 80s hard rock band w/ Metallica that survived when grunge came on the scene.
@@nattyps3160 lolololol what a typical mainstream fan. There's tons of bands that survive the garbage grunge era. Not to mention, the Firehouse band started late but they completely destroyed Nirvana and other grunge bands to win the 1992 Best Musical Awards.
@Spicy Doughnut I'm saying to the mainstream MTV rolling stone general fans grunge was played & written about ad nauseum. Guns n roses in 91 to 93 were the only band from the 80s that were still played round the clock & written about. Metallica was pure heavy metal. Of course I understand that the other hair type bands survived & made it w/ a huge loyal fan base well after. Grunge was totally dead by 94. I was in junior high at the end anyway. It came in the industry pushed it to get every dime out of it & then it exhausted itself to be finished. I'm only saying those 3 years it was marketed like crazy. The look as well. The grunge look the doc martens chuck Taylor's flannel shirts & ripped jeans & grandma sweaters was everywhere. I look back at me & my friends wearing that stuff & it's dated & funny to look at. I liked some of the songs & it's part of that time period looking back forever & it was ruined. I also thought Kurt Cobain on the cover of rolling stone wearing a t shirt saying " corporate magazines still suck " was not exactly taking a stand when u r still posing for the cover anyway. Ur still using the magazine to schill ur music. I do believe he didn't kill himself & really did hate the whole music popularity scene & having to be a schill & that's exactly what he wrote in his " suicide letter " he was saying he was leaving music not life. It was only the obviously copied 4 last lines written by his wife that hr was divorcing that made it seem like a suicide note. That's obviously a whole other matter. Basically when Kurt died grunge was already over. The post grunge Era just spawned a lot of little bands w/ a couple hits 3rd eye blind , live come to mind. Than the 00s came & music declined. But absolutely the 80s bands can still pack a house not even just loyal fans from then but new ones. Guns n roses my only point was they seemed to be the only band allowed to be " cool" & get the heavy rotation on radio & on MTV. I wasn't saying the other 80s bands like skid row firehouse etc didnt die to their fans they just weren't considered " fresh & new "
@@miguelalejandro4357i just personally think the solo fits the song better than any solo could, i love how the solo isn’t fast, best slow solo I’ve ever heard easily, but those are great too

@@firstbornunicorn1545 but Axl’s vocal performance was majorly subpar there. He was winded and his voice was shot. I always recommend the master recording.
If you look closely in the video, the woman's face is half-covered by a mirror fit to the contours of her face, which hides half her head but makes it seem it's whole. The story goes that Axl is portraying a rock star who is trying to deal with the fact that the woman he loves committed suicide over his repeated infidelity. You can hear the heart-wrenching sound his heart is making as he walked down the same aisle he married her on, at 14:15. The whole thing wasn't a dream, he was waking from a tormented dream about what happened. The nightmare was his reality.
Interesting. I have read 7 GnR related books and have several documentaries, including "the making of" for this video trilogy. I have always read that he killed her (he walks by the gun store as HEAVY foreshadowing. Half her face is covered, well because...). She didn't love him, she was unfaithful, and he felt crushed by pain and trapped. Axl says on the making of videos: " 'November Rain' is a song about not wanting to be in a state of having to deal with unrequited love. 'Estranged' is acknowledging it and being there and having to figure out what the fuck to do…" This heavily implies that SHE was the problem. The video implies that his character ended it in the most final of ways, and is living with the negative fallout from such a complicated and dark and tragic scenario.
for those who may not know, "unrequited" means unreturned love, unshared love, uneven love. You love them, they don't love you back.. At least not as much.
@@cessxiii But could the unrequited love not have been hers? Why could the problem not have been that he doesn't love her as she loves him? Then the "most final of ways" would be her suicide, not him killing her.
I swear I was going to request this. So glad you guys did it and liked it. So this was a part a 3 video song set that told a story. The 3 videos are "Don't cry" "November rain" and "estranged". Yall definitely need to check out Don't cry and a song called "patience". Slash kills it!

First of all, Slash was something else. Second, I think this is one of the most expensive rock music videos made. Third, it stayed on the top 10 charts for a very long time. Fourth, I believe the story of the video was based off another song. The bride ended up killing herself because the groom kept going outside the marriage. It was something along those lines. So, he is sitting with the guilt of her death. Fifth, so happy you guys are doing rock songs. Keep it up! 🤘
One of my favorite songs of all time. If G&R stayed together all this time, they would probably be the greatest band of all time. They still can rock it out.
This is my Aunt’s song. It was her favorite song when she died, and she died on November 5, 2002 on a cold rainy day in Portland, OR. R.I.P. Auntie Trista, I’ll always love you
That double cd set was amazing when it dropped back in the day. For a teenager like I was, it was everything for a little bit. To the rock-n-roll kids, these guys ruled the world for a few years.
Paradise City.... shows the talents of each band member.....Slash is amazing and Axls vocals are off the chart. The video is 100% the bands best video.
Estranged is another huge song like this with a great film clip. Slash's true masterpiece song if you ask me. The brilliance of Slash is that his guitar work doesn't add to the song, it Makes the song.
This is my absolute favorite song of all time! I knew you guys would be “wtf happened” when the shot of her in the casket popped up. It usually provokes that reaction in ppl seeing this epic video for the first time. So notice the mirror that is in the casket, that should give you a hint as to what _may_ have happened to her. The song title is another hint. Cheers guys, as long as it is, I can listen to this over & over again, all day! Remember the video was filmed in the early 90’s, so that was an actual helo flying around Slash in the first two guitar solos.
Classic one the best songs ever lyrics awesome and slash rips the solo love guns n roses another classic rock band late 80s and 90s seen them in concert was awesome

For us who have grown up in the generation where we had to be accountable, we had to be respectful and we had to deal with our actions. Our parents ensured that we did that with an iron fist and a consequences were dealt with immediately. I think our childhood eventually got the rest of us as we got old enough to realize it. Trauma found us eventually. We just try and like hell to keep fighting mental illness, childhood trauma and everything else went with it. We lived the hardest toughest times. Most generations will never know about😢
I can't believe you guys never heard this masterpiece or this band. It's one of the greatest rock bands of all time. Timeless and pure talent. Great you heard it sooner than later... they were called the most dangerous band in the world and they certainly still are on the top of music history and will always be. Just LEGENDS
Great reaction. Axl was a huge part of my life in the '80s and '90s but this song is what solidified my love for his voice. Back in those times, we were rocking and head-banging and most likely drunk, lol. Anyway, This song is one of those ones that destroy me. It makes every hair on my body stand straight up. It is a very powerful song and shows Axl's range. It was crazy to find out that his voice is considered one of the best voices of all time. Keep exploring GNR. Slash is an amazing guitarist. Axl is still touring today and apparently doing very well and has his voice back. I will see them for sure if they hit the states again.
Such a gorgeous song. The bride in this video was played by Stephanie Seymour who at the time was Axl Rose’s real girlfriend. Next check out the sing “Estranged”.
My uncles Georges favorite band, and favorite song. He died in 1998 at age 26. I was 12. He was so fucking cool man, and he got all the girls. I am 38 years old, He was just a boy. I have lived 12 more years on this Earth than he did. But he made his mark. This song is a perfect metaphor for Love …. The beginning of a new love is all sunshine , happiness and good times … then you get married and it’s good for awhile , but it’s starts to get get gloomy and darker as one or both of them start falling out of love … thus the wedding is the beginning and since “ nothing last forever, even cold November Rain … once the dark skies move in and then the rain falls … the love is dying and her funeral symbolizes the actual “ Death” of their love as once again … “ Nothing last forever, even cold November Rain”
@@andrewstack9980 I still believe the meaning of the song is how “ nothing last forever … especially most loves between two people. The wedding is the bright sunny in love metaphor, while her death and the funeral is really just symbolizing the eventual “ death” of their love. Some believe that sometime after their wedding that she did commit suicide because of the mirror in her coffin by her head. But either way too me it’s just the story of falling in love snd then that love dying
@@andrewstack9980 The song is about a rock star's struggle to accept the loss of his new bride -- who kills herself (gunshot) because he repeatedly cheats on her.

Fun fact if you kill yourself you can't be buried in the Catholic church it's a Cardinal sin you go to hell. Her funeral wouldn't of been held at a Catholic Church if you did commit suicide.
You are absolutely Right
I have watched this video a thousand times and never caught that. Thank you!
I never noticed that. The mirror on the face.
Yes, she shot herself.
The mirror down her center in the casket hides the other half of her head.
Oh wow I’ve always thought she died in the weird sudden storm that hit the wedding 😅
@@ramonarobot 😅 damn, that was one hell of a storm

Civil War was a big hit from these albums, and is still relevant to this day. It's one of their best songs IMO. the lyrics to this have bars and truths in them
I agree, it's also my favourite GnR song.
Definitely agree
Yes! Civil War is definitely one of their best!
We all know why you're telling them to review civil war. come on now.
@@bottomtothetop1280 why?
Her death is representative of the idea things don't always work out and nothing lasts forever. It's symbolism that she died. He was happy af and then tragedy struck. Lyrics: "Nothing lasts forever - even cold November rain..." His bride is a metaphor for things begin and end -- its what we do between that counts.
This was my Sister's absolute favorite song. I miss her so much. Finding this video made me smile as I thought of her.
It's not that she died right after the wedding, the rain coming in is just a representation of how fast life can change. One more you're happy enjoying life and the sun coming down the next outs raining on your life and things change fast and happens in the cold Nov rain
Wow!

GNR has a ton of bangers:
Civil War (lyric vid for that one)
Paradise City
You Could Be Mine
Rocket Queen

GnR was such a great band. They did great ballads and amazing, straight forward hard rock songs as well. Its a shame they couldnt get along and put out music for very long.
GnR should have been bigger than Metallica

80s power ballads were built different.
As a kid, i just loved the way they sounded.
As an adult, i see how much storytelling was involved.
Didn't this come out in 92? Grunge took over but guns n roses were the only 80s hard rock band w/ Metallica that survived when grunge came on the scene.
@@nattyps3160 Sounds right, but no mistake, this was an 80s power ballad
@@nattyps3160 lolololol what a typical mainstream fan. There's tons of bands that survive the garbage grunge era. Not to mention, the Firehouse band started late but they completely destroyed Nirvana and other grunge bands to win the 1992 Best Musical Awards.
This was the 90’s.. but I feel you
@Spicy Doughnut I'm saying to the mainstream MTV rolling stone general fans grunge was played & written about ad nauseum. I wasn't saying the other 80s bands like skid row firehouse etc didnt die to their fans they just weren't considered " fresh & new "
One of my favorite Guns and Roses songs!!❤️

If you look closely in the video, the woman's face is half-covered by a mirror fit to the contours of her face, which hides half her head but makes it seem it's whole. The story goes that Axl is portraying a rock star who is trying to deal with the fact that the woman he loves committed suicide over his repeated infidelity. You can hear the heart-wrenching sound his heart is making as he walked down the same aisle he married her on, at 14:15. The whole thing wasn't a dream, he was waking from a tormented dream about what happened. The nightmare was his reality.
yup shot herself in the left side of head
hence the mirrored casket
Interesting. I have read 7 GnR related books and have several documentaries, including "the making of" for this video trilogy. I have always read that he killed her (he walks by the gun store as HEAVY foreshadowing. Half her face is covered, well because...). She didn't love him, she was unfaithful, and he felt crushed by pain and trapped. Axl says on the making of videos: " 'November Rain' is a song about not wanting to be in a state of having to deal with unrequited love. 'Estranged' is acknowledging it and being there and having to figure out what the fuck to do…"
This heavily implies that SHE was the problem.
The bride is really Axl's girlfriend. Can't remember her name, but she was a famous model.

Keep it up! 🤘
It says right at the end of the video that it's based on a short story by Del James.

Estranged is another huge song like this with a great film clip. Slash's true masterpiece song if you ask me.
The brilliance of Slash is that his guitar work doesn't add to the song, it Makes the song.

Did she kill herself?
@@andrewstack9980 I still believe the meaning of the song is how “ nothing last forever … especially most loves between two people. The wedding is the bright sunny in love metaphor, while her death and the funeral is really just symbolizing the eventual “ death” of their love.
