When I watch this back, I can't help but think about when I first bought my first set of plants and how terrified I was of touching the roots or bringing plants out of their pots.
Look at me now, completely switching substrates!
If you feel hesitant or unsure about handling roots, take this as a sign to know plants will be ok!!! Of course be gentle when handling them, but even if some roots are lost, new ones will grow.
Alocasia care and substrate transfer can be tedious and does require time, but in my experience it's so worth it because you end up with a much happier and healthier plant.
I've officially decided I'm no longer waiting for any kind of acclimation with alocasias, and just remove the soil immediately upon receipt of the plant.
In my experience, soil is simply a no-go so I'd rather begin the transfer and rooting process in fluval that is going to give my plants strong and healthy roots for whatever substrate I choose next. Spoiler, for alocasias, I'll always choose pon.
